  1. *takes aim* You have got to be kidding me, right? take a read of the previous topics (I believe theres around 100) on this particular attraction andor what DW should do with the mountain cinema ride goldrush area.
  2. good to see Radiator Springs is still going strong... Only thing I'd change is to get your Radiator Springs FastPass first, and then world of color. Radiator springs sells out way faster than world of color does.
  3. ...and all his answers appeared to be well prepared, scripted, 'big picture' announcements, without a lot of substance and detail that were what people were asking for...
  4. Going out on a limb here - much as I'd love to see a new Park get off the ground in sydney - my prediction is this is more just a stunt, considering Mr Khan is also a political candidate...
  5. I think those three attractions play off each other well - if you're holidaying (especially with kids) on the sunshine coast, all three attractions are worth the visit. Yes if you're only up there for a weekend one (or both) are going to miss out, but I think the attractions are 'different' enough to not effect each other that much - AW is your rides, AZ are for animals (wildlife park), and UW is your marine-life. If they were on the gold coast, you'd have Dreamworld, AWE Paradise Country, and Sea World (ok on a lesser scale - but it is the sunny coast after all). The gold coast versions work in harmony and all of them survive - so i don't think AW will be hurting the others too much.
  6. Just adding my own input to the 'testing' debate - the pictures we've seen so far show a 'pull through' is occurring. For the benefit of those who may not know the difference, i've spelled this out in simple terms. Apologies to those who know this stuff in their sleep. A pull through can occur at any time after the last piece of track is bolted into place, and is done to ensure that the clearances around the ride vehicle are sufficient that noone can lose an arm or a head, or reach out and grab anything that they shouldn't. A pull through can be done even while they are wiring up all of the relevant electronics, computer controls etc. The pictures we have seen of the pull through occurring did not have water dummies in them either - so the previous picture of the water dummy in the ride vehicle wrapped in plastic - as Gazza suggested - is likely just where they put the dummy at the time and had nothing to do with testing. When all the ride hardware, wiring, safety systems, computers etc are installed, then we will see 'testing' because there is actually something (safety systems, pumps etc) to test. Given that Water Coasters use the splashdown areas as a part-braking system, i'm going to take the very obvious and surefire bet that we won't see 'testing' until such time as the water troughs are full, and the pumps are running.
  7. I'm not suggesting Jamberoo aren't prepared, and aren't trying to compete with the new kid on the block, but it's not hard to work out that People would rather drive down the M4M7 for 20-30 minutes to reach a world class waterpark that is easily accessible, than to drive the hour+ it takes to reach jamberoo for much the same thing. Gazza actually made a nice comment on facebook the other day in response to someone wanting the 'new wonderland' to be built on the central coast... you build in a blob of population - with people all around it (like WnWS). When faced with the choices of WnW vs. Jamberoo - most sydneysiders will pick WNW - which is why my statement was that i see WnWS impacting on Jamberoo's sydney based visitors.
  8. screw it - take out the Perspex and let everyone get soaked!
  9. They're not asking for suggestions, they're asking people what they want it to be...
  10. or it could be yet another travelling flat ride upcharge attraction that we've all seen before at every easter show and fair on the eastern seaboard. I'm still yet to see Melbourne (not just LPM but anywhere) put in something that makes me want to visit. Christ - PERTH has made me want to visit with the addition of the Euro... and Melbourne still can't do better than temporary installations of travelling rides we've all seen before.
  11. At the risk of flogging the proverbial dead horse - the entire thread is about LPS...ydney... and the future with WnW. At the present moment - I don't know many people who really could give a shit about whats happening in melbourne... it's far less important than you make it out to be.
  12. Yeah check up with the doc is definitely recommended - you may have an as yet undiagnosed condition. A lot of 'coaster-deaths' reported worldwide are thoroughly investigated, and a lot of the time are as a result of a pre-existing and sometimes undiagnosed condition... it might be disappointing if you can't go on some of the awesome rides that cedar point have, but better safe than sorry! (or dead)
  13. Meh - for reasons known to most, my facebook doesn't link to my Parkz profile... so liking is pointless for me.
  14. You only need to take a look at how WnW branched out when it installed the tornado etc... they will find a way to integrate it. Besides - as technology progresses, they'll find ways to remove some of the older, simpler rides and install new ones... We've all seen a carpark coaster - what about a carpark waterslide? (wait - isn't the WnW Mammoth technically one of those?)
  15. You have got to be joking... what on earth does adventure park in melbourne have to do with the price of fish in thailand? I was talking about WnWS, and it's impacts to the parks around it. Please don't tell me you think WnWS will have an impact on Adventure park...
  16. Yep - season pass just lets you enter on every night. for those interested in going multiple nights doing it again and again - the price is extremely good value... I usually end up walking out halfway through the night, so once is enough for me - i only go for the mazes big shows. street dance performances and rides aren't really an appeal to me during those events.
  17. I'm sure they'll both survive just fine - the majority of western sydney visitors wouldn't usually trek in for a day at luna park as often. I'm pretty sure the youth of western sydney is their target 'anchor' market. The only impact I see WnWS having is a reduction in Sydney-based visitors to Jamberoo. It's them i'd be watching closely for a response, not LPS.
  18. Really? You thought that's what he was doing? Then why did you try to pass it off as a codename? And the name OBVIOUSLY comes from the haunted town in the USA? How do you come to that conclusion being SO obvious? Perhaps it is 'highly likely' or 'possible' that's where the name comes from, but unless sudden impact comes on and confirms it, we'll just have to speculate, won't we?
  19. Just because it's heritage listed, and owned by the same person, it doesn't mean diddly. LPS had heritage listed buildings - didn't stop it from closing down repeatedly
  20. Looks like the PR & Marketing guys are plugging it well - I'm pretty confident that is a legitimate MW fright night twitter account.
  21. Can't say - it's not like I visit on a regular basis. There was a bag check before getting near the ticket booths, and then metal detectors between the booths and the turnstiles. Didn't look permanent like SFMM though so perhaps was only a trial test precaution for short time? Anyhow - onward and upward - Disneyland Park So you've already done a day at DCA, and pretty much covered it all. For Disneyland, you're going to want to pick two long-trading days to visit, preferably both with Fantasmic and Fireworks (usually Thu-Mon). Where you can, try and see both on the same night (where Fantasmic runs two shows, get a good spot for the fireworks first, and then dash for fantasmic. The second show is usually quieter, and you have a better chance of getting a good spot. Again the same advice applies - make sure you review the park map online before hand, and know where all the attractions are. Get Matterhorn done early. No matter what - if it's open, it's busy. Most other attractions will generally be an ok waiting time, but Matterhorn will always have the long lines. Just like DCA - use the fastpass system to your advantage, and make your way around the hub moving through the different lands. It pays to work smarter in Disneyland as you can almost do every attraction without doubling back on yourself at all (except Critter Country and New Orleans Square). When you get to the end of main street, either turn left and head through frontierland adventureland first, or turn right and go through tomorrow land. They're pretty efficient in Disneyland and most attractions are continuous cycle so the line will constantly move. Hit each land in turn, going from Tomorrowland to Fantasyland and so on (or adventureland frontierland). To make sure you don't miss out on certain things, keep an eye out for signage at the entrance to fantasyland which will announce when it will close (fantasyland frequently closes early for either the fireworks or private events). If you want to visit Tom Sawyer Island, also pay attention to signage at the log rafts as Fantasmic will close the island early too. On Fantasmic - both Columbia and the Mark Twain are utilised in Fantasmic, so they will also close early. I don't imagine your family is going to want to catch the parade - so it is a good time to ride some of the more popular attractions - but beware - take note of the parade route! Once the parade has started, whatever side of it you're on is where you're likely to stay until it's finished... I don't really have much else to share on the Disney parks - hope it helps!
  22. Theres a reason SFMM has it's own police station - it's also the reason it's one of the few parks that have been suggested that will submit you to a metal detector on entry (USH is the other). Having just returned from a trip to SFMM I have to agree with Rappa. If you want coasters - it's the record holder (Tatsu was definitely worth the trip) but I found park operations to be slow, disinterested and lazy. I paid a premium for the platinum flash pass to ensure I got through everything I wanted to do - I even paid the upgrade for the two 'premium' flash rides (and didn't get to ride one of them anyway). The park has cemented it's place as the king of coasters, but that doesn't make them a nice park in any other way shape or form. I wouldn't say the park was spotless, but it wasn't filthy either. Despite the fact that we paid such a premium price, queue jumping was rife, and you don't have much interaction with staff, so trying to communicate this to the staff was difficult if not impossible. Having said that - the one thing SFMM staff did well was communicate the 'queue once, ride twice' system for the platinum pass - there were never any arguments from the other guests waiting to ride who were displaced by our re-ride. As to Alex's initial question, now that we have a few more details... We spent half our time in LA at the Knotts berry farm hotel - it was close enough to disney property (and connected with the ART bus), but it was further north and therefore closer to USH and SFMM. KBFH was quite reasonably priced, onsite restaurant was good value, and most local facilities nearby. Disney As far as attending Disney - I recommend at least a 3 day pass between the two parks - one day in each, and a third day park hopping depending on what you want to see. Be sure you check the showtime dates on the disneyland park site a week or so out to work out when fantasmic, and fireworks are on. World of Colour is on most nights, but the park's hours vary (early entry days alternate, as does the 'late closure' with one park staying open later than the other. Make sure you make the most of these variable hours by picking the longer hour days to visit each park. Fastpass system Something that many people seem to know, but many others don't, is that you don't have to USE your fastpass before claiming another one. Say you get a fastpass for Space Mountain. If your fastpass says to return between 11:00 and 11:30, do other things until 11am - then proceed to the NEXT ride (say Indiana Jones) you want to ride, and get another fastpass. Once issued, go and use your original Space Mountain fastpass, which will help take up the time until Indiana Jones is ready. (Note that you'd generally want to pick your fastpasses in a sequence moving around the park so you're not constantly doubling back on things) Although the fastpass system does state a window (11-11:30) in most cases Cast Members will permit you to enter after that time, although there are a few exceptions. California Adventure You can do your 'whole day' at DCA on a mid-week shorter day as the park isn't as immersive and involving, and get it all done pretty quickly. Use your early entry for DCA and get a fast pass for Radiator Springs (or just queue for it first). After you've gotten your fastpass there, get a World of Colour fastpass from near the rapids (you can hold that as well as your ordinary fastpasses throughout the day), which will get you a good spot to see world of colour. Check out the park maps online ahead of time, and make use of the 'filter' feature to show only specific things (like rides and attractions) it can be easy to miss something good because it isn't lit in neon lights (like the Monsters Inc attraction). If Parades aren't your thing, then use that time to either eat (the outlets are quieter) or to take a ride or two on something well away from the parade route. If your folks are looking to take a load off, I highly recommend the Aladdin stage performance - extremely well done, and it soaks up a good 45 minutes to an hour, whilst in air conditioning and comfortable seating. Lastly, in a lot of cases you can make it through Soarin several times by alternating 'regular queuing' and fastpasses. Because Soarin is quite separate to a lot of other sections of the park, you're best bet is to obtain a fastpass, and then use the general Soarin queue to ride once, before re-entering with your fast pass to do it a second time. It is highly rerideable despite being the same film as different seats give different perspectives. Get Soarin done quickly (it's in between radiator springs and grizzly river run (rapids - world of colour fast pass), and you won't then have to visit that park of the park again. I'll post some more tips for Disneyland in another post.
  23. I'm sure many of us will have a wealth of information to share with you (i've just recently returned from a trip there in AprilMay this year), but theres a few things that would be good to know first: [*]Are you only visiting Disneyland and Knotts? Or are you open to see others as well? [*]Are you hiring a car? [*]have you already booked your accommodation - and where is it? [*]What else do you plan on would like to do whilst you're there? [*]How many of you are there - and what age-group (eg: is it a mix of parents with teens or a bunch of early-20-year-olds etc... it makes a difference) [*]Is everyone in your group over the age of 21? [*]How long do you have in Anaheim, and will you go to any other parts of the USA or Canada while you over there? [*]What sort of budget are you working with - are you looking to do things as cheap as possible or are you flexible to do certain things that are worth the extra money? Thats all i've got for now. Depending on what your answers are, will depend on what kind of info tips will be useful to you... Also bear in mind JanFeb is winter, and this may impact on some things you may wish to do while you're there.
  24. Most of the 'tricks' the dolphins do at our Sea World are based on natural behaviours. It may not be 'a ball' that they knock around in the wild, but the behaviour is the same - its just that they do it with other objects. Wild dolphins have also been known to 'take people for rides' etc in some situations. The trainers at our Sea World only ask the dolphins to do something that is, to a degree - natural. They can't make the dolphins do it, but they reward them when they do. believe me - amongst the dolphins in our park are some absolute bitches (not my words), that simply refuse to do what they are asked. There is some frustration amongst some of the trainers towards these pig-headed animals - but they aren't punished for not 'performing', they're still fed adequately. Sure they don't receive what the trainers carry in their pouch but they are well fed. Having said that - most of the dolphins used for 'imagine' want to do what they are asked to do - they can't wait to go 'on stage' so to speak - it is apparent by their behaviours towards the trainers before the show.
  25. I've seen several release dates touted for 'Resident Evil 6' but nothing i've seen so far gives 'evolution' as the rest of the film title. Further more - if this attraction was intended to tie in with the release of the sequel, it wouldn't be opening around the same time as filming commences (filming to commence in the 'fall' of 2013 - being Sept-Nov). Lastly, IMDB lists the location of filming for this episode as the WBMW studios on the gold coast. I'd be inclined to see it appear at MW, not DW. It is possible that the franchise is being used in the attraction, but I doubt that it is specifically going to tie in with any sort of 'evilution' tag line. if that were the case - the intentional mis-spelling would be used on the tagline of the movie also.
