  1. ...As for the warehouse, I think they're just trying to theme the area - The warehouse is the old chinese all-u-can-eat restaurant in china town (facade) and it backs onto Scooby... so Arkham Warehouse, Arkham Fried Chicken, Arkham Asylum... sort of make you feel like you're in the 'arkham district'. Just my opinion.
  2. The latest I hear from Dippin dots is that it's happenin... you heard it here first folks!
  3. Just thought it worth a mention - last weekend, the 'geek' show on Nova 106.9 did a spot in Movie world. The major part of the video they did was an on-ride of Green Lantern. The video is now up on the nova website.
  4. This is a discussion forum. Everyone is entitled to share their opinion. The extra 1.5 minutes is still hypothetical, but regardless - an extra 1.5 minutes per ride is still an extra time that otherwise wouldn't have occurred had the Q4u not been deployed. I realise it's their park, and they are free to do whatever cheap moneymaking scheme they see fit. By all means they can have rides with poor capacity, do nothing to fix it, reduce the staffing levels on the ride to further save money, and then charge a premium to people to make up for it. My whole point is theoretical. i don't care one way or the other, and i fully intend on getting one on my next visit to give it a try. My point is simply when someone spouts that there isn't an inconvenience to other guests... some of whom paid hundreds of dollars to bring their family to the park... when someone spouts that a Q4U rider still waits the same amount of time, when clearly - they wait the same amount of time, but effectively ride TWO rides in that time (thereby waiting only HALF the time for each ride), and when someone spouts that no extra capacity is being taken up, when - REGARDLESS of the math, you cannot deny that EXTRA CAPACITY IS BEING TAKEN UP - I feel a need to point out that they are incorrect. Regardless of what argument you try to put up - you made those statements - that each Q4u person waits the same time as everyone else, that there is NO extra capacity, and non-Q4u guests aren't inconvenienced - and you have already conceded that those statements are wrong. My examples used theoretical figures that would never happen - but the statistics were exaggerated to produce an easily visible result. The fact is that, even 1 Q4u device in the park still impacts on other guests. 150 of them even moreso. There is no denying it - so stop trying. My dad's a banker... so what? I'm an auditor in the tax office. Does it matter? I don't think the maths rubbed off that well. An average of 4 people per pass, and 150 passes, means (4x150) 600 people with passes. 10% of 4000 people in the park is only 400 - so you're up to 15%, not 10%. Why isn't there 600 Q4u people queueing - which could certainly be the case on a newly released ride like shockwave, or buzzsaw? You're randomly pulling 60 and 30 people on a ride. I don't see the justification that HALF (based on your 60/30 figures) of those who paid a premium wouldn't be taking full advantage of it? Ladies and gentlemen - Notawhinger has posed a very good example here. I put it to the rest of the forum - name me one ride at dreamworld that fits this criteria: 1) Capacity of 30 people per cycle. 2) Available on Q4u 3) Cycle time (lets be realistic and include the time taken to load and unload, because 'ride time' isn't a realistic consideration) is 90 seconds or less. So I don't accept your 90 second proposal. Let's be realistic here - cycle times (especially at dreamworld) are closer to 3:30-4:00. If ToT2 launched every 90 seconds, Dreamworld wouldn't have a capacity issue. So a FOUR MINUTE extra delay (and this is still working with a ride that takes 30 people at one time) in a 30 minute queue - suddenly my queue time increased by more than 13%. Over the course of a 7 hour operating day (let's allow an hour for lunch and make it 6), thats 48 extra minutes spent in queues because of Q4u.. Almost an extra 2 rides. I just don't see that your argument holds water.
  5. So you do agree that in my example - the general public are being affected by the "additional" virtual queue persons. How is it any different if there are less - there IS still an effect on the queue, no matter how slight.
  6. A few minor changes, but overall, it's quite the mini-me.
  7. lol. just tell them they're prescription, and you can't see without them!
  8. Hats with a rigid brim won't fit into those boxes. They are (as stated) for essential items like glasses etc. There's so many of them because naturally - there's so many trains potentially running on the tracks. I will say though that our VIP gold passes were allowed on last time round - because we needed to show them to the attendants to be let into the queue. The current early entry process ONLY allows gold holders into the park that early, so essentially if you're in the park, you're allowed in - and therefore - they wouldn't allow us to take our passes into the queue.
  9. My partner works for a construction company - they build houses, among other things. From ground-break to turn-key, the cost of construction, including fixtures, paint, plumbing, electrical, structure is about $330,000 (including the cost of land) - so effectively, Movieworld has 3 brand new 4 bedroom houses to spend on the makeover. Considering that they aren't fitting out the inside of the houses... they're all facades - i'd say they can do quite a job with that money.
  10. Why does it need to be anything but seatbelt material? It's comfortable enough for: Aircraft Family Cars Fall Arrest \ Travel Restraint harness systems (which include over-the-shoulders, through the legs, around the waist) Race Cars (in a 4 point harness which includes over-the-shoulders) ...and many more. Why is it uncomfortable? Is it because your exposure to the material is in a car that doesn't have adjustable lap-sash seatbelts, and so the webbing cuts across your neck? If thats your only whinge - a 4 point harness (which this is similar to) comes over the meat of your shoulder, and it isn't diagonal, so it isn't going to cut in across the neck. Provided the webbing is mounted low enough, the webbing should come up slightly, before it curves over your shoulder and down your front - seatbelts are designed, and meant to sit across the meat of your shoulder - not bone or neck.
  11. Pretty much bang on. i thought i'd quoted Gazza too, but it didn't come through - anyway - computer modelling would be able to indicate a change in speed - lighter \ heavier cars, less rolling resistance - perhaps they know the figure for certain based on other models already in service?
  12. I wouldn't say cheeky - i'd just say good business practice - 'competition'
  13. I disagree. The theming may not be of Bermuda standard, or BATR back in it's day, but I disagree about it being the most sparsely themed... Batwing certainly takes that title. As for this countdown ^^^ Where is it? I've gone through the MW site and can't find anything...
  14. A good question GoGoBoy - but as I recall, similar concerns were raised over Green Lantern during construction, right up to the final 2-3 weeks. We have around this time (or a bit longer) until LW is relaunched - so i'd say plenty of time, not to mention that most of the themed elements could be housed inside the building, and could already be on site. The exterior theming (china town?) had work underway several weeks ago. I think if they constructed a facade around the 'soundstage' to reflect an image of the asylum, it would be perfect!
  15. Am I the only person that finds the numbering system confusing? Challenge 1 Round 3 V2?
  16. Pirates of the Caribbean receives a 'top and tail' style refurbishment EVERY SINGLE DAY. The animatronics have 3 sets of their costume, plus additional sets of themed costumes for events like christmas, hallowe'en etc. Each morning \ night, costumers make their way through the entire attraction, primping the animatronics, brushing their hair, checking for stains from hydraulic fluid etc. I bet you anything you like that Bermuda was lucky if it got that treatment twice a year.
  17. Disturboed - there is plenty of anecdotal evidence to point to the fact that the first ride or two of the day will always be touch-and-go. More roll-backs have occurred on those first few cycles than any other time during the day. Machinery, track, wheels and the cables are cold, both from not being used as frequently as later in the day, as well as not having spent time baking in the sun. The computer calculates the launch speed based on the weight of the train - but it calculates based on optimal operating temperatures. until everything is 'warmed up', you run the risk of roll-back, or a less than optimal ride experience.
  18. Extra capacity IS taken up - because in the time your 'virtual queue' position moves forward, you are also riding another ride. Imagine, hypothetically for a minute - that the park has 10,000 people in it. Now imagine that every second person has a Q4U device, and uses it frequently. In effect, you have 15,000 people in the park. Now I realise that you can't be on more than one ride at a time - but for the other 5000 people who don't have a Q4u, they queue for 45 minutes - whilst they're waiting, the OTHER 5000 are off riding other rides. By the time the first 5000 people reach the front of the queue, the second lot have gone to the head of the line for their own ride. Most people will still argue that there isn't any extra capacity being taken - so I put it to you this way. A Q4U allows the holder to potentially ride 2 (or more) attractions in the space of one queue time. If nothing else, this is one more cycle on the ride counter, and more wear and tear for the park. The rides will be used more (because people aren't stuck in a queue - they're off riding something else) and therefore increase maintenance costs also. So if the average person rides one ride an hour, for the entire day (7 rides) and the Q4U rider rides TWO rides an hour, (14 rides) tell me how there is no extra capacity used up? Also - if Dreamworld require that Q4u holders ride towards the back of the carriage - that makes me more inclined to not get one, and not visit the park. If I pay a premium price, why am I not permitted to choose where I get to sit?
  19. I've been saying for at least a year that Batman needed to go the way of Buzz Lightyear or similar.... And if Sally Corp is involved, it may just pull off something really special.
  20. A good update. Nice to see they're actually re-inventing the area, rather than just changing the signs and painting the walls... But then, thats dreamworks, so it's got to be done right... i'm optimistic for a good result here - something dreamworld can't cheap out on without upsetting their license.
  21. More likely, he was carrying his lunch, and decided the back of house area of superman was a good spot for a picnic.
  22. Out of curiosity - Doc Braun isn't too far of a stretch for Doc Brown... Spencer - was that your vid?
  23. I don't think the article is far from correct. Like most of our well themed attractions, some thematic elements aren't always at the top of their game. MW had allowed scooby to deteriorate greatly - as evidenced by the thread linked to above... but it seems the powers that be were paying attention to that thread, and an overhaul occurred soon after. I think the multi-coloured lasers certainly take the ride closer to the 'kaleidoscope of colour' that was heralded when it first opened. I think the major issues to be resolved for that ride are: An effective method of distributing smoke throughout the room, and keeping it that way, despite the numerous draughts and holes in the wall - i'm not sure what they're using, but stage fazers seem to keep venues like the entertainment centre well covered. The other thing they need is a programmed laser. The lasers originally installed were programed to strike the mirrors mounted on the far sides of the building. This took one beam and split it several times. The mirrors were strategically spaced to cover the entire track, and worked well. The multicoloured laser has potential - but i think it's current 'random' program works fine - they just need another laser to make use of those mirrors to really 'fill' the room.
  24. i do like that they've given some thought to the existing attractions re-theme. I do think Shrek was a far better match for Reptar than Madagascar, but depending on theming, it should still be a good choice. I think the main reason was reptar's proximity to thornberries, and the need to keep a separation between each land. Not sure why we're calling it 'faire faire away' - surely the term 'far far away' hasn't been snatched by Universal, considering it's a dreamworks product, and a familiar phrase in fairy tales and sci fi movies alike. Maybe Dreamworld can bring in Shrek 3 and a half D in the dreamworld cinema?
