  1. Well the news has been broken. Here are some new pics: Mick Doohan Moto Coaster: "Get behind the handlebars of the ultimate motorcycle thrill ride" September 2007. There were news crews and stuff everywhere there today so keep an eye out tonight. Check out all the pics yourself, but I think you will notice that this thing is going to be pretty awesome. This is going to cross its own path plenty of times and yeah, have a whole lot twists and turns. Also, check out in one of the pics, it looks as though it is going to sweap out over the water. It won't take long now. I cannot wait!
  2. Thanks GoGoBoy, muchly appreciated Yeah, it is kind of a team effort though hey WnW Rocks. Kudos for the call about them usually sitting around having lunch! Classic. I was actually fairly lucky to get the shots I did of anything, because it was raining most of the day. Yeah, I took them on the Cyclone exit. From what I saw there could very well be two of them, but cannot be exactly sure. Some others here might have a better understanding of what each of the pieces is for, etc. But from what I can assume, most of those pieces up the back are curved in some way, shape or form. Basically, if it is only a bowl slide, then the pre-layout may be a little more interesting than the Rip, which would make it a fairly unique attraction.
  3. I can vaguely remember what it used to be like. I cannot remember most of the talk, etc, because it was ages ago - back in the days when there was a huge line for it. But I can remember it being really hot up in there.
  4. I agree with this in some ways, but I can remember there being plenty of ads for Superman Escape a long time prior to it opening, and a similar effort was made for the claw. As for Batwing, though, I honestly really didn't see much advertisement for it at all. I think the first sign I saw of it was a little logo in the top corner of Cartoon Network around November. As for them keeping final plans/ideas, etc secret until it opens. In all honesty, we have pretty well figured out what is being built on our own. Exact details, etc are sketchy, but still, its more than nothing. If you go into the park now all of the transport rides - paddle steamer, and train both make reference to the construction site saying that a new coaster will be opening soon enough. As for why they keep it secret for so long. My best bet is that they do it so that competitors have less of an oppurtunity to respond. Let's not forget that the bulk of our parks are in a very close vacinity, so it is important for them not to open something that will seem inferior to a competitor's product. And if we use Maverick as an example... after much of the testing of that ride the final inversion was removed due to excessive strain on the trains. So, alterations do get made, and in the developmental hype of the ride that was one of its key features, which now has been removed.
  5. ^Hahahaha! That is two legend comments in the space of 5 minutes Good thing I didn't say Harry Potter was hard on the eyes So, the big question though... what is to stop Movieworld hanging their dude in the Supes suit from the mist things that run along mainstreet and have attendents running him up and down with long brooms?
  6. ^Hahahahahahahahaha!!! Hmm... I was actually waiting a while to get a shot of them both on their feet at the same time! Hehehe... What I am trying to show is that the construction of our new slide is in good hands. A huh. :
  7. ^Ahhh... ok I still reckon we should just wait until any of the parks are willing to let us know what is going on. Makes things more interesting. After all, how would we dedicate forums to speculation if they just come out and tell us what is going on?
  8. ^You kidding me. haha. I am Clark Kent. I look exactly like him. I still reckon Clark would look strange with the Justice League though.
  9. More pictury goodness. They have pulled most of the pieces, etc out of the shipping containers so you can see them now. What I have to say is that it is going to be one colourful attraction. You can see the some of the more interesting bowl pieces. The last pic also shows that they have started doing stuff in the bottom of the hole they dug.
  10. ^Wow. How strange. Why not have a Clark Kent then? hehehe. In any case, there are plenty of Supermans walking around Movieworld. Every Joe with his wife and kids has an 'S' shirt on.
  11. ^Well that's right. "Pretty low". Yep that is correct. Let us just explore that idea for a second. How many times did the drop ride in the US successfully take a gondela to the top? And of that how many, how many times did it snap? Just once. Now that would make the chances of an incident like that occuring 1 out of every [insert large number here] or as you would describe it... "pretty low". Now let's get this straight, this particular incident was a freak accident, yeah. However, what I am trying to say is, is that if on one occasion a camera could unfortunately hit someone - fatal or otherwise. All it takes is just one incident, and the ride, Movieworld and everything associated would aboslutely cop it. Why would you put yourself in the situation that something could occur... even if the likelihood is "pretty low" when you could simply just take the precautionary measures they take? And as for the idea of the items 'falling out'... who is to say you don't get a little sneak that just happens to take something out of their pocket? I'm sorry, but weren't Mythbusters the same mob who proved that a cable at speed couldn't sever a limb? Yeah, it may not pierce the skin, but I can honestly say I wouldn't like to be standing somewhere around the track of Superman Escape, minding my own business and have a coin thrown at me, let alone rocketed at me.
  12. Ok Gazza and Richard, you guys are right. My bad. I guess the point I was trying to make was that for $64 for a day's entry - which really, when you consider the possibilites of re-entry tickets, adults at children's prices offers, two world or annual pass upgrades may rarely never be $64 per day - there really is a lot to do to get your money's worth. Personally, I would rather see something much larger, etc, but I really don't think we can complain about this just yet. Also, just in response to one of the statements made about it being launched by magnets (maybe in another forum). Correct me if I am wrong, but are there not guides for the cable under the bottom of the launch track? And secondly, don't you think Dreamworld would have learned its lesson with using magnetic propulsion with the Tower of Terror? Haha... the second one was a joke. PS - Wnw Rocks... I got my maxaction platinum the same day as you remember and I didn't get any email either.
  13. Yeah, but at one point the plan was to create the waterpark as a revamped blue lagoon, rather than a seperate park. As time went on and the development plans continued it was seen as a better business move to open it as a seperate park. Yeah, you don't get more for your admission fee to Dreamworld, but over the last ten years the admission price as not increased, but the cost of running the place has. I am sure that if they opened WhiteWaterWorld as a part of Dreamworld you have found that you would pay a cost that covers both parks, which people would kick up a stink about. Besides, while the additions such as Wiggles World, etc seem small to us, to many families these are the areas that stand out to them. And I am not talking parents with early teenagers, but parents with kids in strollers or around the age of 5-8. Come peak seasons, areas such as Wiggles World are as packed as the rest of the park. In the meantime we are making comparisons with Movieworld, but remember that Movieworld's boom has only occured in the last four or five years, whereas before that, while Dreamworld were making a series of installations, Movieworld were seemingly sitting on their hands. Dreamworld will wait for their moment, as will Movieworld in the coming years. I think I would be with everyone else in saying that it would be great for them to install something 'big', but something unique would be just as good in my opinion. The layout can be pretty well seen at this point, but the heights, etc will become more clear when more supports are put in. I have tried to figure it out, but it is just too difficult at this time. I will have to say that that was my reaction when I saw the number of footings, etc. It is going to be fairly long for the area they are working in.
  14. ^The big billboard outside Dreamworld/WhiteWaterWorld says something like "Hottest Winter Thrillrides" with a thermometer going up to 26 degrees. It is in reference to WhiteWaterWorld being heated to 26 degrees.
  15. Yeah, yeah... ok... ok. Jokes aside. I think this will best be moved elsewhere soon enough. I am not going to really get into the discussion. I think the best thing to do is just move on. If you wish to post about stuff go ahead, just don't get all angry. Ghandi teaches that "Honest disagreement is often a healthy sign of progress." I don't think we are all going to agree around here, but there are different ways of handling the situation. If Richard wants to take the tissues out, feel free champ.
  16. I was thinking that they could probably just build two platforms, one for the Terror Canyon slides and one for the new slides. Obviously though, as someone stated earlier they have gone to extremely painful lengths to retain Terror Canyon, so whatever they build it will have to provide an oppurtunity to despatch from the two sections. As long as it looks look I will be happy. I think they may resist rebuilding a mountain of sorts because it seems that was what was giving them trouble. If they are keeping the name 'White Water Mountain' then it just may refer to the natural mountain. I think Wet'n'Wild could do well with replanting some of the trees etc up the hill once it has finished. EDIT: Piccie goodness.
  17. ^Cheers, thanks for the heads up. I would suggest that it won't be too long now until the new slides start going up. Just to get some ideas flowing, and before Wet'n'Wild ruins our fun by building something up there, how do people think they will go about replacing the mountain? Do you think they will rebuild a Mountain similar to the one that was there previously or some other sort of structure?
  18. Well, if they enter from the western side they will be jumping a wooden fence, the train track and running under Tower of Terror I think they will probably invest in a fence. As for the low nature of the track, it is probably going to be its strongest feature. Something that I didn't realise until I actually visited the park was that the initial curve and rise only climbs roughly 5 - 10 metres higher than the launch track, but with the slope of the land it is almost 10 - 15 metres above the ground at that point. They havn't finished building those supports so it may go higher, but most of the turns and features will more than likely exist below this height, in the area on the lower side of the slope. As I was saying earlier, expect it to be a very smartly, and custom designed track for the area given. I just cannot wait to see construction progress. I will be going next Tuesday, so will try and grab some more pics. EDIT: Stopped in quickly today. Got a pic of the footings near the river and the building that is going up next to the paddle steamer que area.
  19. I thought that they put the black curtain thing in when they started running with two trains. As for the discussion about Cyclone. I honestly don't think its design should be admired in any way. The only comment I was making is that going into those rooms, etc is a little more exciting then nothing. End of discussion. If you are creating a discussion around the deminished capacity of Cyclone, well. The actual doors etc are not the main problem. I honestly don't think that being able to see how to hop on and hop off would increase capacity that much. Don't get me wrong, it would help, but not as much as other alterations that could be made. Something that would be better investigated is running with two or more trains so that while one train is loading (whether it be efficiently or otherwise), the other is completing the curcuit. Because let's face it, it won't be able to dispatch until the second train is safely beyond the final break run. I think the second element of the Cyclone is that it really isn't worth the wait.
  20. Yeah, I know who he is. I wasn't questioning his authority or his idea. In fact I have a lot of respect for what he does. It was intended to be a bit of light humour. What I was meaning to say after that is that different systems exist and as you mention further in your post many of these systems are used in great effect in different places. With regards to which ones work best locally or which should be employed, I was merely hoping to pose the question, would you rather Dreamworld, Movieworld or others create rides that have great capacity but little or no theming or make an attempt to tell a story, but potentially deminish capacity? I guess the answer could lend itself to the teachings of the great Mr Miyagi: "Walk on road, hm? Walk left side, safe. Walk right side, safe. Walk middle, sooner or later... get squished like grape." Perhaps, if they are going to do it, do it right, or leave it be. Yeah, and feel free to comment on this statement if you wish, but why should an element of a ride be differentiated between a pre-show, loading and then the 'ride' itself. Ideally, wouldn't you prefer the ride to exist as a whole, so once you enter the queue you are already apart of the ride and the idea of waiting in a queue is eleminated. It extends the duration of the experience also, and would give you less of a reason to be focussing on the capacity of the ride. Many rides use these ideas to reduce the issues of extensive queues. Well if the way you are describing it is true, then it sounds exactly like what I was talking about. The actual loading into the train is an element of the story, rather than being the next thing that you have to do before the ride begins. Ok. First, I don't think that at any point people are not eager to get in and have a go. I don't think I have ever seen someone stand there and go, "Oh, I'm not too interested in this, so I'll take my merry time with hopping into the train." lol. Second, I know its your opinion, so I respect it, but for many of those kids, such moments could be the greatest moments in their lives. And I am not just talking about kids. There are a lot of people out there that rarely get to attend parks and ride attractions such as the ones we discuss here on a regular basis. For those people every little part of the experience makes it. Everything. Half of the experience is mentally losing yourself in the idea that you are hopping into a subway carriage. By not seeing the other trains leave you genuinely believe that the train you have waited for is about to leave. If you don't believe that element, then you are never going to believe that you are in perril, and you will never believe that Superman is actually saving you. I liked the speed, yeah, it was great, but in that moment you had to let yourself believe that Superman was saving you. It was the ride. The technology was good, and all the dips turns and whatnot were great, but believe me as a Superman fan, nothing compared to the story component. I think if you were continuously watching those trains dispatch, it would have lost a degree of that magic.
  21. ^Ok, let's get it back on track. Perhaps the Dreamworld CEO and engineers that toured the US looking for ideas saw how some of these rides operated and will implement these strategies on this new installation. Things are still early just yet, but you really don't know how this cycle coaster will run in terms of theming and queuing, etc. All that you can tell is that the entrance starts near the path adjacent to the Paddle Steamer dock and will eventually end up where the station is.
  22. Churros will help you out Gazza... I think the question is "what is smooth?" The problem here is that you are comparing it to another state of being 'smooth'. Would you consider Scream smooth compared to non-B&Ms? Another aspect I would say is that it probably has something to do with the track layout if what Richard is saying is correct. Again Gazza, it is a state of mind, if you expect the ride to be rougher than it really is, it will be smooth. If you expect it to be smoother than it is, it will be rough. As time goes on you tend to become accustomed to the degree of smoothness and gradually it seems rougher. It is similar to the way in which Superman Escape's launch gets slower if you go regularly. Give it a break for some time. When you return it is lightning quick again. Obviously, no major changes have been made, but your body has forgotten how quick it goes. Is there any particular coaster you are refering to with this question? Absolutely no idea. You will have to ask Vekoma.
  23. Yeah, I know. I'm sure you know as well as I do that once those doors open, the best part of the Cyclone is over. Yeah, I've known some people who give lectures about stuff too lol. Just kidding around. I'll admit, the dude makes a good point, but that doesn't mean that is the only way of doing things. I will still have to say that if you are having a geniunely well themed ride where the whole story is apart of what you are becoming engrossed in then I'd rather walk into the dispatch platform without much of a clue with regards to what to expect next. I know Mr Wardley is an intelligent bloke, but I'm sure there are a whole bunch of other people that can come up with a system that allows you to be informed how to hop into the train as a part of the story, and have two other trains already moving through the track so capacity doesn't dwindle. Consider it making the first part of the coaster similar to Superman in that it holds riders and gives them something to do while a train is on the track. Or even better design it so the blocking system caters for different stages of the story. Admittedly, Dreamworld isn't going to do this, but I thought I would make that statement. That being said, I would rather step toward good theming, rather than just considering it is hopeless. I know we are probably making some comparisons now to the way that Superman Escape works, but I think we all know that the quicker that train dispatches the quicker it is going to stop and pause until the other train makes it back to the station. If you really wanted it to increase capacity, they should just launch it from the station or directly after the station and scrap the dark ride section. The Cyclone is a capacity minefield. I think we will go with what MickeyD is suggesting and not even give it the oppurtunity to be apart of this discussion. That isn't entirely true. People love the doors on Superman Escape. First time riders know its a roller coaster, yeah, but when you can only see a little bit through those doors, for many it is the anticipation which really gets them in the mood. The number of times I've seen kids or adults asking what is in there and then having the surprise of walking in there is greater than you might anticipate. And while I know we follow the construction and development of these things pretty closely, the first time I went on Superman Escape I knew nothing about the ride, and that made it every bit more exciting. Well, Movieworld isn't actually forcing you to do anything. They do clearly state "please ensure all loose items are secured in the lockers provided or with a friend that doesn't wish to ride the MRT." I went with a group of thirty people one day. Two people didn't want to go on it, so we left all of our bags with them. Cost us nothing. And even if I go in a group of four that all want to ride, we split the cost. 25cents each for an hour. It's Movieworld so you go on it about 6 times in that hour and away you go. It isn't that much to pay considering that you pay rediculous markups for food and beverage anyway. If you are going to a themepark expecting value for money you are in the wrong place. After all, I don't think WnW or WhiteWaterWorld include the 7 or 8 buck locker hire in their entrance fee, but more than likely you choose to fork out to for somewhere to keep your stuff. As for the functionality of it all, the lockers themselves do nothing to deminish capacity, in fact they do make it better. Rather than waiting for riders to put all of their stuff in a box as they load, you just walk straight in and hop on. At the end, no waiting for riders to grab all their stuff, just walk off. Let their be a bottleneck at the lockers, it isn't really that big a deal. EDIT: I put a couple of extra statements in here or there. When I read it some of my statements sounded a bit harsh-esk, which wasn't my intention.
  24. Different process same product - they have copped it. Smashed up into little pieces and taken to Arundel tip. That's all that matters.
