  1. I found the queues on Saturday night very very short. I went on the Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster about 8.30pm and the wait was no more than 15 minutes (even though the sign at the entry said 30 minutes). Afterwards I walked past the entry an noticed the sign had been changed to 15 minutes, so I thought "why not" and went in again! That was basically a walk-on. Only 6 people in front of me! Everyone else must have made their way to Main Street to get good spots for the closing parade. I still got a great spot though after my two rides on Scooby Doo! Aside from that I didn't go on any rides. Like Joz I was just enjoying the atmosphere and entertainment too much to wait in queues for even a short time. It was just awesome! I stayed till most people had left to avoid the queues to get out of the car park, and shortly before I left I saw a spotaneous Conga line develop as some of the last guests partied their way towards the exit!
  2. Heavily themed is my favourite type of theme park. My favourite individual park anywhere in the world (that I've been to) is definitely Alton Towers in England. I've been to Disneyland too and it's great, but in my opinion Alton Towers has a few things going for it that no other park does. It is built in a spectacularly beautiful location, and the grounds (including a castle in the grounds) has a lot of history which adds depth and character to the park. In Australia, whilst none of the parks come close to Alton Towers or Disneyland, I just LOVE the Gold Coast, because I don't know of anywhere else in the world where you can just pay a couple of very low prices once a year and have unlimited access to 3 major theme parks and 2 major waterparks, all within a short drive of each other. That's just one of the reasons I have finally moved here, and one of the reasons (actually the main one) I believe the Gold Coast is the best place on earth! If I had to choose one of the 5 major parks in the Gold Coast as my favourite, it wouldn't be easy but I'd choose Movie World, because it has 2 themed dark rides and pretty good entertainment throughout the day. The evening events such as Carnivale are the icing on the cake!
  3. I'm going tomorrow night and I'm just hoping the rain might hold off. Sounds incredible. Can't wait! I'm quite keen to try some of the special food options too.
  4. Hopefully Sea Vipers replacement will be an indoor dark ride, well themed in a way that has some sort of Sea link.
  5. Hilarious, I suppose. Not really setting a high standard as a so-called Community Leader though, to be honest.
  6. Another one added to my blocked list. I'm not here to be offended and insulted!
  7. Unfortunately due to our American friends, and the influence of American TV, a lot of people these days think lawyers have all the answers to lifes problems, and even accidents have to be blamed on someone. Sadly the result is often that the person who sues theme parks and other businesses makes a bit of easy cash, and the vast majority of people who love going to the theme parks end up with less fun, permanently, because the parks are forced to close the rides (and in some cases to close the parks). I am 100% sure Movie World Management will make reasonable efforts to assist guests who were on the Green Lantern, even though this was not their fault but a genuine unforeseeable accident. Beyond that, things happen. Read the conditions of entry to the parks and to the rides. If you don't agree, please don't go! Let's all remember that accidents happen. By definition they are nobodys fault.
  8. Like WipeOutDreamFan I also have a high level of confidence in the safety of theme park rides. In fact I feel far more at risk whenever I drive my car. Especially on motorways. Almost everybody fails to indicate for a sufficient amount of time before changing lanes, and almost everybody fails to leave a safe distance between vehicles. I'm just amazed that there aren't a lot more serious incidents on the road than there are. Compared to driving, rollercoasters actually feel pretty tame to me!
  9. If so sorry. I'm just sick of the general tone of many of the posts in this forum.
  10. I didn't know parts had fallen off. Are you sure about that though or could it be a rumour? Regardless, I'll be back on Green Lantern soon after it re-opens, with no worries at all.
  11. Again Skeetafly. I only visit this forum because I enjoy visiting the wonderful theme parks in the Gold Coast. In fact, that's one of the main reasons I've finally moved here! I do NOT wish to have silly arguments with people I've never even met, who (I would assume given that they're on a forum like this) also love theme parks! So please don't try to engage me in an argument, or a "who's right?" sort of discussion. Not interested!
  12. I'm not, but thanks for your concern. As usual people on this forum seem to feel compelled to pick holes in whatever others have posted. Why on earth can't we all just get along and have a friendly and respectful conversation about something (theme parks) we obviously all love?
  13. There are signs as you queue for rides such as this, which clearly say that it may on rare occasions stop mid-ride. It happens. No big deal. I'm not playing it down either. It must have been quite unpleasant for those stuck on the ride. But we're talking about a machine. They're not perfect, and occasionally they go wrong. That's precisely why the engineers build in lots of redundant over the top safety measures to ensure everyone is safe when these things happen! In the not so distant past, the only people who would have known would be those who were on the ride, the management and staff, and the emergency services (and to me it looked like there were a lot more of them than really needed, which certainly created the impression things were a lot worse than they really were. Anyway folks. Nothing to see here. Move along now!!! I certainly won't let this put me off going on the Green Lantern. I will however take a closer read of those warning signs next time I go on. Little tip. Always ensure you use the toilet before going on a roller coaster, because you never know for certain how long you'll be on it!
  14. The main difference is you have to pay (quite a lot) to get into those shows, and they're only once a year. At Movie World it's effectively free (or close enough as far as I'm concerned) and it's every day!
  15. Oh. In that case then yes, maybe the motorcycles should have been pulled. Either that or measures be put in place to better ensure safety.
  16. It was all working very well, including some new laser light effects when I went on it last. That was June last year. Hopefully there was just a temporary glitch at the time you went on.
  17. All that sounds BRILLIANT to me. I visited London a few years ago and went to the Doctor Who Experience. Google it to get an idea what it is. Basically an exhibition of Doctor Who but with an interactive experience too. This included a couple of well themed ride components (inside the Tardis), and used a combination of live actors, animatronics, and filmed sequences featuring the current Doctor Who cast, and various special effects.. That's something I'd LOVE to see in the Gold Coast, and Dreamworld would be a perfect spot for it! Or (and I know I've posted this before) something like this video by theme park review shows. or this
  18. BigKev. It's for all the reasons you mentioned above that I believe I am about to move to the best place on earth (well, if you like theme parks, that is)! The Gold Coasts parks are admittedly not the best parks in the world, but I know of nowhere else where those who live nearby can spend just a couple of hundred dollars and get so much unlimited fun all year. That is awesome!
  19. I agree that the Stunt Drivers II show was poorly thought out (a lot of it makes no sense). However I also agree it's silly to pull all the bikes out just because there's been one minor incident!
  20. I couldn't agree more! I wish they'd play more on the name of the park. It should be about DREAMS! In other words, awesome adventures that take you into dream-like experiences. There's ample inspiration available from other theme parks around the world for the sorts of things they could have. That's beyond dispute. However I do think most people would be happy to pay more for entry, and especially for annual passes if there were more awesome experiences to enjoy once you're in. Whilst I'm on that topic, I was looking today as the list of prices on Dreamworlds website. They're not alone in this respect as Village do the same, but there is no consistency between the prices. You can pay more to go in for the day than you do for a whole YEAR of unlimited entry to Dreamworld, Whitewater World, and Skypoint! Why not make the prices a bit more fair. Just a little, and charge say $300 for annual passes. That would still represent incredible value, and give them significant extra capital to invest in new rides.
  21. I definitely wouldn't be happy if they demolished Eureka Mountain, unless they replaced it with a new dark ride. To me personally dark rides give the opportunity to do vastly superior theming and to create immersive environments where you can escape into a fantasy world (which is what theme parks are all about). Bermuda Triangle at Sea World was in my opinion the best ride on the Gold Coast, and it was replaced by Storm which is essentially just a roller coaster where you get wet!
  22. Good, because for a forum about such a joyful subject there's enough pessimism around here to make you think the forum was about funeral services!
  23. Good point. However if there was any damaged asbestos that needed to be removed or made safe, they would need a permit for that.
  24. The main part of the track in Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster is based on a "Wild Mouse" design, but it's so much more than just a basic roller coaster. From the photos I can tell that Eureka was (and maybe will be again) also based on a Wild Mouse design, but much more - yet completely different from Scooby Doo!. I really hope this happens, and the sooner the better as far as I'm concerned!
