Dreamworld reopening - the summer season
Santa07 replied to wipeout94's topic in Theme Park Discussion
It's also the same publication that took a story from UQ Stalkerspace (which is essentially the uni's meme page for those who don't know of it - pretty much everything that gets posted there is someone trolling or just a stupid meme). Since then I lost any belief of what the Dail Mail says. -

You're the one getting your 'facts' from the media. You must be a journalist yourself to believe everything they say... do you believe everything those stupid weight-loss ads you see over the internet say too? Slick has been to the park, he's seen the crowds, he's seen the carkpark. He's got bloody photos of the crowds. How much more factual can you actually get? I'm going to make the bet that you pulled most of those numbers you gave us right out of your ass. -

Your maths is correct, but your common sense is missing. Do you not realise that monthly revenue means average monthly revenue. Which means monthly revenue in peak season will be above this figure and monthly revenue in off-peak season will be below. Park has only been in peak season for about a week, since what you have calculated has been based off most of the off-season period your calculations are completely invalid (and additionally, I have no clue where you got the 2/3 attendance figure from). -

Dreamworld Summer Entertainment Offerings

I completely agree with this, I did realise the other day how much I've ignored for years. The park is massive, even when you take out most of the rides. I think a lot of people forget about what's on the other side of the river too. -

Depends on whether you like re-rides. Me personally, I can re-ride claw many times, and Buzzsaw a few times. Pandamonium is generally only a one-off per visit for me and Motocoaster I don't go near. I found Kevil Hill a good attraction for whenever you need some aircon, although the scares are not nearly as good the second time (however - going again on a different day provides a new experience since the staff positions will be different - I actually found I got scared more on the second day I went because of this). If you're into it you've also got the Dreamworld Express and Coroboree which would take up some time, as well as the new Tiger Island. Sending the morning at WWW is a good idea, especially if the heat is similar to the past few days. If you're headed next week I'm sure one or two more rides will probably be open. -

Interesting, the park was deserted when I was there around midday (before POP can jump in and use this against the park - I find this is usually the case on NYD for theme parks. NYD is one of my favourite days of the year to visit a theme park as they operate at peak but generally don't have anywhere near the crowds for it hence resulting in super-short queues). Buzzsaw was cycling with near-empty trains when I rode it, and at one point Claw had no-one in queue or on the ride - just a bored attendant waiting out the front. WWW looked fairly busy from what I saw though - as it would be with weather like today's (I'm sure the girl working as the secondary op on Padamonium who was talking to me about how awful the heat was was jealous of those over there or working in Kevil Hill). -

No they shouldn't - I went in the evening. It's natural that the park would die off around then. I've already explained this to others - they might not be losing money. Remember that less than half the thrill rides are open and they're not spending the money operating those and paying staff wages for attendants on those rides (tower of terror in particular because of the huge amount of power the park uses when running that) and as more rides open more people will come to the park. It's all one big cause-effect situation. Honestly I don't even see the point of reasoning with you any more. It's about time I do this: -

What about a Mack dive coaster? The concept's been put out there, it just hasn't been spoken about much. -

I'm someone who doesn't think DW should touch the island. Going past it on the railway the other day made me realise how beautiful that section of the park is and what a massive contrast it has to the other parts of the park. It does create a bit of a barrier between the 'main' section of the park and Coroboree, but I don't think disturbing the nature on that island would be a good way to go since it would destroy some of the Aussie bush atmosphere you get back there. They have other land to use before they should think about developing that land. For me, I'd do the following to the parks: Sea World: Pretty much Joz's previous idea - would be perfect for the park. They have a lot of land to play with. Movie World: Expand the park towards the back, there's room there for a new themed land (or two), which would include plenty of room for a few big attractions (rollercoasters/dark rides). Honestly as long as its not DC, I'd be happy to see any theme back there - I definitely like Joz's idea of Animal Logic and the lego batman transition. I think this park would benefit immensely by becoming more Universal Studios-esque, a couple of massive dark rides and themed areas could achieve this. As coasters go, I don't think the park will have any need to add one for a while, and the next coaster they do get will be of a smaller scale (possibly a family coaster?). Dreamworld: Bring some life to Gold Rush, add a new family ride there to replace TRRR (either a new modern water ride or a dark ride). Retheme MDMC, add new trains and roughen up the terrain a bit to heighten the sensation of speed (possibly re-profile the track or bump up the launch but that might not be worth the money). Create a new themed area (with the same level of theming quality as tiger island) incorporating Blue Lagoon and possibly Rocky Hollow (if that's going). Possibly retheme Giant Drop accordingly (or at least give its current theming a bit of a revamp). Build a new coaster over this new area - if they were going with an older theme a woodie would be great (I'm thinking GCI here), if they're going with a more modern theme (perhaps something futuristic?) build a modern woodie (RMC - possibly a hybrid although I think a straight wooden coaster would have better marketing possibilities) or a Mack (big dipper or multilaunch). Use the leftover thunderbolt land to expand WWW. -

While a MDMC move is what a lot of people here want most (apart from a complete removal), I think DW would be wanting to use that area for WWW since its really the only place they can expand to, without cutting into the carkpark. I'd just prefer a retheme of MDMC with new trains (even something like dirtbike racing would fit in better - or if they wanted to change it completely they could go for quadbikes and get trains similar to those on Juvelen). Also gives a great opportunity to pull the ground up, add some rocks, and make the coaster feel a lot closer to the ground (and consequently feel a lot faster) -

Went down to Dreamworld this afternoon... carpark was about half full but all rides were a walk-on. One thing that stuck out to me was the cheerfulness of staff... nearly every staff member I encountered seemed happy and many were talking to guests. Zombie Evilution was a pleasant surprise, not having done this as a scare maze myself I wasn't expecting much from the reviews I've read, but it was a pretty solid scare maze with several decent scares (I think the lady jumping out of the cinema screen at the start caught me off-guard the most). Staff here were amazing, when we arrived there was no-one else in the queue and the two ladies at the front were very friendly to us while we waited for people to fill the 6 people minimum. I counted 10 actors in there (plus the greeter and cinema lady), I'm not sure if I may have counted some of them twice so there may have been a few less. Fog and darkness gives off a pretty scary atmosphere, and some of the actors really do have zombie noises perfected. Overall a really solid attraction that I definitely prefer over the laser tag. Didn't stay until the fire show since we had to get back to Brisbane, but overall the park had a really nice atmosphere. Not dead quiet, but not really busy either which meant no queues. WWW looked a little busier from the carkpark. -
I bought planet coaster a few days ago... my computer's not the best and I knew it was going to be a bit laggy but it's still incredibly addicting...

Welcome to peak season everyone. Well, we have just over a month to avoid the parks (apart from DW which might be a little quieter until all the rides are open again).

Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster Reopening [Dec 26, 2016]
Santa07 replied to Reanimated35's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Unless you're trying to summon AndrewH, I don't think there's a chance the park will let anyone film it, Parkz or GP, Theming or empty warehouse. Not only would it go against their pre-existing policies, I doubt the park would want the state its currently in to end up on the internet, or even worse, in the hands of the media. The photos are probably already more than they wanted, a public video would not be in the interests of the park at all.- 202 replies
