Dreamworld Memorial & Reopening discussion

I don't think that that person realises but basically every ride in the park would be removed except for TailSpin, Pandamonium, BuzzSaw, Shockwave, MDMC and a couple other kids rides. -

At SW there are some under the first monorail station, near the park exit and Castaway Bay for all day hire. -

I just did a quick and very rough measure on nearmaps and the resovour is approximately 1600 square metres. And they'd have to go however heigh to put it at a usable level. That is a lot of concrete. So I imagine that drilling into the current ground and installing a drainage system would actually be the realistic option there. But really it does come down to what type of ride they installed there, if they plan to at some stage, and how much of the area they'd require. -

I personally doubt they'd fill the river track or resovour with concrete. That resovour would be pretty deep and to get it to a height would required tonnes upon tonnes of concrete which would cost a redicilous amount. My bet is on a coaster of some sort which wouldn't require any major works to the resovour, besides obviously removing the water. And I think the station/queue area would be the location of the memorial. -

I don't think they'll fence the whole area off at this stage. Larger areas might be closed off when the ride begins to be demolished. I think for now they will just fence off the enterance and maybe the fence that is shared for Buzz Saw. Otherwise I don't see the need to fence anything else off. The park does still need to function, and fencing off the old gold rush area doesn't seem ideal and then removes the use of BuzzSaw. We don't know, and I don't think DW know at this stage when they will demolish the ride. And I think the demolition would be the station and mechanical elements, rather than the area you walk past near GD for now until a future of the area has been decided and what they decide to replace it with. -

Maybe it wasn't been used by people too much in the off peek period, so they've put it into 'maintenance' so they can fix any issues they had so it's ready for full use these summer holidays

I also agree that this was a horrific incident, and did effect me when I first heard the news, but it won't stop be from going to the parks and enjoying what they offer, that includes the rides. I understand that people react differently to these types of things and having nearly everyone that has been to the park, gone on this ride, I imagine most people think how it could've been them. But as a theme park enthusiast I will 100% support the park no matter what and as soon as it reopens I will be heading to the park, and will be sure renewing my pass next year. I understand that its people opinions, and this isn't aimed at people on here, but anyone who has ever visited the park, but to say they won't EVER visit the park again, I think is doubtful and give it a couple of years and people won't think of this as the first thing when they say 'Dreamworld'. What if they got this brand new kick ass ride that is a first for Australia, are people going to say, 'No I'm not going to try out that awesome looking ride because I don't visit DW anymore'. I think that is doubtful. It will take time, longer for some than others, but eventually people will be able to move on and enjoy what the park has to offer. -

There was a news report this evening discussing further about the rides being tested. This morning, BuzzSaw and TOT were seen tested and inspected. Also, the flags outside the front of the park have been raised to full mast. -

Well some of their more recent work has been better than I expected. Eg: Dreamworks, refurbishment of Ocean Parade, Tiger Island, new food outlets. The effort that went into all of these were great and I feel like it really brought life back to the park -

Yeah same, I don't mind paying $2 for a locker, but used to be a better when it was $1, and would've been even greater if they were free. -

I'm sure this idea has been mentioned a year or 2 ago, but a family coaster would be ideal and most realistic, considering there is the big damn storing all the water for the River Rapids. And trying to fill that wouldn't be easy or cheap. I think the Memorial would go where the queue line/entrance of the ride is. And then if they were to remove the mine ride, that could be the queue and station for the new coaster. But I think it would be another couple of years before we see something major happen in the area -

It has just been stated that from today they will begin the process of reopening the park. A specific date has not been set for the reopening of the park at this stage, and it won't happen until all rides have been checked over. Contractors have returned to the park from today, and construction will continue for the LEGO Store and Stage 2 of Tiger Island, which will both be completed by Christmas. -

That's Castaway Bay, a great themed area of the park. The track is the Battle Boats, and those structures are the Sky Fortress and Sky Climb. Been open since 2010 http://www.parkz.com.au/search/photos/location/ride-1439-Battle_Boats -

But they haven't said at this stage about removing the Eureka and chairlift station. I was told by a friend who used to work at the park, and she said that the Eureka Mountain has been tested in the past and does have asbestos, and they did at one stage look into removing the whole mountain, but after consulting with specialists, they said that the whole park would need to be closed for a couple of days while they removed it. And then the surrounding areas of the mountain would be inaccessible for some time while they removed the rest of the mountain. Hence why it has never been removed. -

Well technically it will be in the superhero Precinct of the park, if the access to the ride is via the path in front of Batwing and JL -

Sorry, I meant 3hrs for single queue. 4.5hrs for normal queue. The ride had only been open for about a week when I visited. -

The Flying Dinosaur had 4 trains, and they were all operating on my visit. And lucky the were because the normal queue was 3hrs, thankfully I had a fast pass, but still had a 15 minute wait. But in regards to the 4 train operation, they had 2 stations which always would have 2 trains in. While they are being loaded/unloaded one train would be on the track, while the fourth one would be waiting to enter the station until one was dispatched. The speed of loading and moving trains out was crazy fast, and worked really well. -
2017 for Gold Coast Theme Parks
themagician replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I don't think 2017 will be the year for new attractions at DW, but more getting things back on track. After the incident it could take some time to get back to the way it was in regards to the amount of people visiting the park. And the park may struggle finically because of it. But these are just quick thoughts at this stage as we don't know how much it has effected the park, until the Summer holiday crowds appear. And also the LEGO Store and Stage 2 of Tiger Island need to be completed, so they may have been put on hold while things are sorted out. Or they may push hard to get them complete in time for the holidays to try and attract the crowds. -
I don't think every 1-2 year would be finically possible. The first one went from Dec 2008 to Feb 2014. And then the current one went for 2 years before changes were made due to ththe motor bike accident. But I'm glad they got rid of the bikes because those ramps looked so crap and didn't match anything else.

I think they need to fully redevelop the whole set and start from fresh. They could probably keep all the structural elements, as that's where the major costs are, but change the cosmetics of the set so it makes sense, so that your not watching a trailer for a Australian race in a American/Italian town. I really enjoyed the original HWSD, all it needed was some comedic elements and it would've been great. But PASS was just on a whole new level and greatness. I hope in the next two years MW change the stunt show completely, and not have a HSD3. Cars doing stunts is fine, and I really enjoy them at times. But there needs to be a proper story, and bring back some stunt men to really add to the show. And none of this, let's make a movie trailer, and have people come down and do some scenes while everyone just sits there, and then let's watch the trailer at the end while everyone again sits there awkwardly.
