I genuinely think they either don't care or hope that nobody is looking that closely. This trailer dropped super close to when Vortex was completed and shows two completely different versions of the attraction. The final shot shows the blue version we got, but the earlier version is the strange sandstone version we've seen a couple times. There is no consistency within any of the concepts and the only absolute is that we will get the rides. Everything else is just 🤷‍♂️ I agree with Gazza; why bother at this stage? If the general public doesn't care for theming then just show the attractions doing their thing and don't worry about showcasing themed elements. However I do think that there a lot of Australian theme park goers that do care for theming but don't really care for the Gold Coast parks so end up saving and going elsewhere. These marketing assets feel like they are trying to give off the vibe that their parks moving forward are going to be different to recapture that lost portion of the market, but I just don't think anybody is fooled at this stage. My parents aren't theme park enthusiasts, but they enjoy going every now and then. We used to go to the Gold Coast parks a lot but then after they took us to Disney they suddenly stopped taking us to the Gold Coast. I figured out why later on when I was planning a trip in 2014 to the GC and they asked "Why bother going to the Gold Coast? Just save up and go overseas instead. You're going to be disappointed otherwise." If the parks know they can't recapture these lost customers, why bother trying to pull the wool over their eyes with this sort of marketing?

Dreamworld's Spring Country Fair - New Spring Event
Guest 239 replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Why do I feel like Paradise Country just exists to spite Dreamworld? 'You got baby tigers? We got baby tigers! You got a spring event? We got a spring event!' Jokes on them though because I've never been there! -
Movie World, Dreamworld and Sea World - January 2021

This thread after like two posts: Anyway, welcome to Parkz! I've been during the school holidays and it's not the worst. The parks do a decent job is balancing the crowds by increasing their operations with more staff and trains on most rides. Honestly there have been times where the waits have been longer with less people because on attractions such as Superman they had like two people doing unload and dispatch. They'd walk between each block and no joke it took about 10 minutes to run each cycle. I do think your best bet are those final weeks during school holidays. I find that generally most people have concluded their travels and they're using their last little bit of holidays to make sure they're ready for the year so its your best chance in my opinion. In regards to your question about QLD and NSW, from what I can see they generally go back at the same time: https://www.nsw.gov.au/living-in-nsw/school-holidays https://education.qld.gov.au/about-us/calendar/term-dates Considering when you're going I think it's likely to make little difference. Also considering it'll be summer I reckon you're probably going to be fanging for a water park. My suggestion is try and bundle Dreamworld + White Water World together instead of doing Movie World + Wet'n'Wild. Movie World is generally harder to get done in one day and getting over to Wet'n'Wild is a pretty decent walk in the summer sun. White Water World and Dreamworld usually see lesser crowds so you can easily hop between the two. Feel free to ask any questions! -
Dreamworld’s BuzzSaw is Retiring

I can see the problems in both aspects. @Slick has outlined well why some things can't be divulged, but I've noticed that some people (not mentioning names) do like to dangle the carrot over others heads because it's a simple way to climb the ranks within enclosed, niche communities like this. However I don't think @TimmyG is necessarily in the wrong for asking for a follow up because it can cause a discussion to falter until it divulges into the community shaking the magic 8-ball to try and get the information they want. -
White Water World Relaunch / Splash Party

I like these events. There's a nice feeling of exclusivity when you get a visit a park during a limited-time event. It makes the experience more unique! -
I have no doubt that this is the case, but it's really disappointing. It devalues the overall product and getting frustrating when you combine this penny pinching with increased costs to visit the parks.

I think it was a fair question to ask for clarity sake. He wasn't even attacking you. This is a super weird hill to die on. -
Luna park 9 new rides construction

To continue the boardwalk theme you could play on some retro designs of old boardwalk trams. Could even have some silly story around it where the trams have been repurposed to give you the fastest and tallest tour of Sydney's iconic harbour. -
I just realised that this calendar goes backwards towards the end and it hurts my brain.

Dreamworld's Spring Country Fair - New Spring Event
Guest 239 replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Communications and media relations within the industry in Australia leave a lot to be desired. Ultimately it's off-topic but our Australian theme park reviews have been seen by a collective half-a-million people and those views are growing exponentially, but we find out about everything happening the exact same time as the public does. We're constantly for doing new and exciting things with parks but they are really hard to get a hold of, and even harder to keep their attention. -
Nice.

I really like the look of this event. It feels like its got a little something for everybody and it's embracing food and drink outside of a separate ticketed event. -
Disney CEO Bob Iger steps down, replaced by Bob Chapek

Oriental Land Company would laugh Chapek out of their offices if they tried to bring in something like this there. -

That weird grey wall? Yeah I don't get that either. Is there a better picture of it? -

That's the paradox of Disney Theme Parks. We will kick and scream and moan about all the changes and ridiculous right up to the ticket gate. People have been complaining about the company for decades but consistently they see more guests and more profits. The problem for them was that it was a frog in hot water situation where if they changed things too quickly between years then people would jump out of the parks, but post-pandemic they can set whatever temperature they want under the guise of COVID and people are happy to be boiled. Well yes, but actually no. It was basically a 'save my spot in line' system where you could go the attraction and get a ticket to return once your time arrived. So say if Space Mountain had an hour wait, you could get a ticket for roughly an hours time depending on demand and other factors. The difference was that FastPass skipped a majority of the queue, but on average you'd still wait in a line for roughly 10-15 minutes because it merged with stand-by at a certain point instead of being a front of the line pass. -

This has been a long time coming and a lot of US-based Disney Insiders have said that the writing has been on the wall since Chapek moved in. The really disappointing thing is that insiders have stated that revenue is pretty much the only metric that the US-based or operated theme parks care about moving forward. If they roll this out and money increases but guest satisfaction goes down, then they wont care unless that causes a noticeable dip in their income which means that if you don't like these changes then you really need to talk with your wallet here folks. -
Do we think there's room for a 'Hurray For Hollywood' style event themed to Halloween that could run leading up to Halloween? It could operate similar to Disney's Magic Kingdom event where there's no mazes or anything, but a big Halloween party. Take the regular parade, have it at night and feature 'zombified' characters or something similar with additional fire dancers, scare performers and have trick-or-treat stations. It could be a more adult parallel to spooky nights with drinks and cocktails, and then run the rides at night. It would have significantly less overhead and I feel wouldn't be a huge financial strain.

It's perplexing that they went from advertising Australia's Biggest Park to 'lol actually never mind' in the span of 18 months. My hope is that it's not to permanently be a smaller park, but to consolidate what they've got in the pursuit of a better theme park experience. Nobody can argue that during 2017-2018 when the removals were limited with most everything open it was still a lesser experience then Movie World due to that park simply having the better attractions. It's not about the size, it's about how you use it.

The system that Disney uses for Space Mountain's audio is insane. It calculates the velocity of the train and it's position on the attraction to live mix the audio so that specific audio cues are hit at the perfect moment. Basically the soundtrack is split into dozens of parts and the audio system determines when those parts need to start and end. Music is an incredible tool which needs to be used right in creative mediums. Just having music isn't enough. Properly syncing tonal and atmospheric intention with the right 'cues' will make all the difference. In this regard I think you can elevate a good attraction to an excellent one with music alone which you can witness first hand with the massive difference between Tokyo Disney's Space Mountain and Disneyland's Space Mountain. Edit: I should have read Luke's reply before replying because we basically said the exact same thing haha.

Arkham asylum replacement theming??
Guest 239 replied to Cooper Liston's topic in Theme Park Discussion
That's exactly what I mean. The fun is in the speculation, but coming on here and saying "My dad's ex-wife's dog's previous-owner's pizza man who once drove to Movie World says that the replacement will definitely feature the letter 'E' in the title" is kind of annoying? I'm just not a huge fan of the charades that comes from telling people you know something but not saying what you know. If its meant to be a secret then keep it as such. -
Arkham asylum replacement theming??
Guest 239 replied to Cooper Liston's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Whilst fun to speculate and I'm sure executives have preferred replacements in mind, I have a feeling that nobody really knows what the Arkham replacement is. Maybe they did earlier, but now that VRTP has to answer to BGH Capital, I'm sure it's entirely different. BGH's job at the end of the day isn't to just make a good theme park, but too ensure that Village's assets are worth more than what they purchased them for. There would be a lot of strategy involved with this and I would not be surprised if they're consulting with overseas firms and people with international experience to really ramp up the parks. TL;DR - Nobody knows until budgets and strategies are in place.
