  1. I don't think there'd be much interest in the slides at Wonderland, and if there was, they would have got Seaworld's old slides (which as I understand it, is not the case ).
  2. I think the key here is "usable land". The park is boxed in by the studios, and there is not a great deal of space left to play with.
  3. I'm not normally a big fan of Kevin Yee's from Mice Age, but I do feel he gets a whole heap of stuff right in his latest article, and its quite relevant to what your talking about.
  4. Glad no one else has noticed that.. I think the way it works is something is new until another headline attraction is built. It should probably just say "Newest!" or something like that. Still, Scooby Doo isn't the big sign out the front of the park anymore. Movieworld is doing the advertising the whole park not just one attraction thing at the moment, so they do know that its not new, and not as marketable (Still fun though). Maybe they'll pull that off the website in September or something.
  5. Space Mountain is an obvious attraction that wasn't there when the park opened, same with Indiana. I know its a while ago, but you get the idea.
  6. I don't really understand the question; Epcot added Mission: Space Animal Kingdom is adding Everest Disneyland is adding Buzz Lightyear DCA is getting a Monster's Inc ride and got Tower of Terror last year Thats a nice healthy slew of projects going on at once, so I don't understand the "Never add new rides" thing. Perhaps you could explain?
  7. The Special Effects show isn't as popular as it used to be. The show is now 14 years old, looks dated and is a rather expensive attraction to operate. Most people seem to think its past its prime and requires either a major update, or replacing. Well, updating an attraction like this might increase its in park popularity, but it certaintly would struggle to attract new guests. Really, replacing it makes total sense on many levels. Not only will the replacement attraction be a huge draw card for the park, but building it in this spot also lowers the costs involved. Think about it, there is already the infustrcture (Power and whatnot) in place, and thats a nice saving off the total cost of the ride. Also, don't be surprised if the buildings get re-used, again a nice way to save building costs. It also means that the most popular element from the show (Superman) gets a proper home in the park instead of just some small component of a show. There is no way that this is a bad thing.
  8. Since the Superman thread is getting quite bogged down, I thought I'd start one here. Someone asked me when we can expect construction to start. Well....
  9. Here we go for a few fun facts: The Gold Coast Tourism bureau through its own surveys, threw up the following: 70% of visitors visited a theme or wildlife park during their visit. That would suggest that indeed, most people do go to the theme parks. Breaking that down further, 62% of those guests went to Movieworld and Seaworld, and 42% visited Dreamworld. So statistically, if someone is on holiday on the Gold Coast, you would bet that they are A. going to a theme park, and B. the park is probably Movieworld. Now, I suspect this an old survey (1998/9 from what I can tell) and the sample size isn't given, but the point remains the same, most people do visit the parks when they are on holidays.
  10. It really is a must visit page for anyone whose interested in the Gold Coast's parks. The pick of the site is the map page, which has a good collection of old maps. Anyone who hasn't seen the site simply must check it out, truly remarkable stuff.
  11. I'm sorry, could you please explain this whole logic thing to me? Just curious, does (or did) Dreamworld fly flags with the logo on it? I just can't seem to recal ever seeing a Gold Coast park fly flags with its logo on it...
  12. I know that is a bit broad to claim bragging rights, but not bad Wayne
  13. Maybe your height (5"3? Shorter then Penguin? Quite an achievement that!) has something to do with it. Though it'd be fair to say that Lethal Weapon tends to be moody, and quite often you'll get a nice ride, with a few rough ones thrown in for a bit of variety. It also depends on which train you get, when it last went through a re-ferb (which is pretty often), how old the wheels are, and how you position yourself on the ride. Glad to hear you got a good ride on it, and even more importantly, glad you had a good day! Nice report too, keep us posted if and when you head out to any of the other parks!
  14. Look here if you can't remember what the whole thing looked like. $8 isn't a bad price for something like that (not bad nostalgic value), any takers?
  15. Nup, about to go into one in Feb.
  16. Hmmmm, maybe we should have made him a cleaner....
  17. One story says Walt was pissed that he 'borrowed' so many of Disneyland's ideas for Freedomland, and another says that he claimed to be the master builder of Disneyland. Who knows, but one thing for sure, when he came up with an idea at one park he liked, he took it with him to where ever he went. You can see a direct link between Movieworld and Freedomland. It just makes you wonder if what he was doing in Freedomland was inspired by Disney, if Movieworld's western area is the evolotion of that idea. Remember its was the only themed area in the whole park when it opened. Now I'm looking, there's a few bits of Disneyland floating around the old Movieworld. For instance, check out the fire station at Movieworld, and consider the fire station at Disneyland.
  18. Entertainment at Wet 'n' Wild? Well there's the aqua racers which have the competition/show, there used to be a speed slide stunt show, and there also used to be characters roaming around the park at one time or another. A high diving show might also work too.
  19. Ok guys, this get a tiny bit involved and the story's not that impressive, but stay with me here anyway: C. V. Wood was a guy who did lots in the theme park world. He most famously worked on Disneyland, but also had a part to play with Six Flags over Texas, and on topic, Movieworld. He also designed his own park, Freedomland (now closed). Now, tonight, I've been doing a bit of reading up on this bloke, and have found quite a similarity between an attraction at Freedomland, and one at Movieworld. On this page, you can see on the 4th picture down, an attraction that appears to bear a striking similarity to Young Einstein's Gravity house. One could go a step further, putting Movieworld's western area down to this guy, who did copy cat Frointerland's on most projects he worked on it seems. In other words, it seems the western area of Movieworld, is based loosely off Disney's very own Fronteirland, and came to us direct from the guy who worked on the original. Thoughts anyone?
  20. Dude, thats the funniest thing I've read for weeks lol Me as F&B boss? Yeah, I'll do you proud On the drawing itself, mate I'm constantly amazed with how well you do those. Everything looks pretty good on that, and the quality is unreal. Just out of interest, do you do drawing of any type as a job? Dj, don't worry, I'm sure Flea will let you help him with the lights
  21. Rockin Roller Coaster looks it might really be my sort of ride by the looks of things. I like Lanchers, indoor coasters and inversions. Its on my "to-do" list put it that way.
  22. Damm, this one is really hard. Building a ride that fits isn't hard, but building a ride thats any good sure is. Nice challenge!
  23. Really? Besides the fact there isn't a need for brakes, I'd have thought that the car isn't going straight for long enough for brakes to even be possible. Stranger stuff has happened though...
  24. What would be the point of brakes in the Boomerang? Aren't the other brakes on the ride there to stop the train so it doesn't stall in the boomerang?
