  2. I'm so disappointed. Just saw it's in the old spot the Octopus was in and it's basically another chair swing style spinning ride except it has carriages and they move outward more. Lame!
  3. So it's the 24th and i still can't find ANY information on this ride, searched twitter, facebook and instagram - nothing. Except for this tiny blurb on AW's website:

  7. I think the back seat will be an upcharge of $25 p/p. I think it's going to be a lot more than what most people think. I mean, look at it this way. The demand, especially in the first few months and probably for a good few years, is going to be massive. Every thrill seeker is going to want to try the back seat. So MW will be in a position to essentially charge what they will. They won't go TOO high but it'll definitely be more than $10, and i'd be willing to put bets on it being $20+.
  8. Movie World's skyline now is stunning. You have the charcoal black coaster right up the back, with the red coaster to the left, then the green coaster right up front with half of the completed "fuschia" coaster. Breath taking. #themeparkporn
  9. Did you really just compare Disneyland to Dreamworld? Disneyland has several annual blockbuster films (Pirates, Star Wars, Pixar, etc etc list goes on and on) which propel it's attendance every year not to mention the best back catalogue of any film company geared towards children. Yes, nostalgia works for Disneyland because of that back catalogue of characters and films they get to work with but Disneyland also continues to thrive because of their use of CURRENT Disney-films. Dreamworld has none of that to fall back on. Nostalgia will not work for them, I'm absolutely sorry to say. They need to keep with the times or they will be left behind - just like Wonderland was.
  10. I found the perfect ride for DW. It's new at "Movie Park Germany" which looks like it also has a ride like Bermuda Triangle from SW in the background.
  11. I don't agree with this at all, i'm sorry. The market TODAY is so so different to the market back in the 80's when Dreamworld launched. First of all, Dreamworld only had to compete with Sea World and it's main competitor today (Movie World) was still a decade off launching. Second of all, people back then didn't have the expectations they do today. It was such a huge thing to even have the Thunderbolt back then. I remember in the early 90s, when I was a small child, driving past DW and being in awe of the Thunderbolt from the highway and always wishing I could go on it. Thirdly, there is a huge reason why DW went the way of the 'big thrill rides' as their park stared to evolve; they saw the market changing and they realised they needed to keep adding these type of attractions to grow their business and keep existing customers coming back. Your point about "appealing to people's nostalgia and planning to bring back old favourite family rides" is really only going to appeal to parents who went to DW as children. No one under the age of 25 will care about that "nostalgia" at all unfortunately and I certainly think it could be in vain if they spend big money trying to bring back these rides that have far less appeal in today's market than they did when they launched. My two cents.
  12. Nah put in something like Mystery Mine at Dollywood. A great indoor coaster (it's possibly a Gerstlauer, CBF'd googling lol) which could be done for about $20 million rather than the $30 million AT LEAST they'd be up for with a B&M. It would also fit perfectly into the Gold Rush section.
  13. Yep I also thought that. I mean I am sure the shareholders KNOW it's a massive investment but putting the emphasis on the price at this early stage might have some scrambling for the exit. $$$
  14. No one is denying that Dreamworld could have a marketing winner if they launched a new ride. The problem is, they don't look likely to launch a new ride anytime soon judging by Ardent's tightening of the purse strings and the fact that the park will take a loss at this financial year in the tens of millions.
  15. The parks heavily rely on locals though. Their business is 70% locals. Locals aint going back in a hurry to ride the Cyclone, sorry the "Sidewinder".
  16. I think it also highlights just how poor Dreamworld's thrill offerings are in comparison though. I don't think this announcement which is specific to Movie World will positively impact Dreamworld in any way. If it's going to have an impact on Dreamworld, it will be negatively. D/W's thrill seeker crowd will be decimated as the thrill seekers will be throwing their money at Village for a VIP pass so they get to ride DC Rivals. The majority of the population don't spend their money on Ardent's theme park pass AND Village's VIP pass in one year so if the choice is going to be made, D/W will lose out big time. FACT.
  17. Well that idea was fine...BEFORE 'the incident' but families aren't going back to Dreamworld like they used to, hence the large decline. They NEED a big, fast, twisty, full circuit, potentially record breaking coaster to bring the demographic back that WILL support them despite the bad reputation. That demographic is teenagers and young adults. Parents of young children have a lot more trepidation about re-visiting a theme park that is currently home to a SBNO ride that took the lives of four of it's patrons.
  18. I'm sorry but Sea World is in the heart of the touristy strip of the Gold Coast. It attracts far more international and interstate visitors based on it's proximity to tens of thousands of tourists every day. When I was last at Sea World i just remember the throngs of asian tourists travelling in packs. You don't see that as much in Dreamworld. Sea World's appeal also largely lies in it's animal experiences whereas Dreamworld's relies on it's rides to bring in visitors. You can't compare the two really, they're in different leagues and attract different demographics. Dreamworld's main competitor is Movie World. That is fact.

The news that Dreamworld's YOY attendance has shrunk by as much as 40% even in the recent months, is disastrous itself but will the single biggest investment into a theme park in Australias theme park history just down the road at it's main competitor further erode Dreamworld's attendance? To put it in perspective, who is going to buy a $100 annual pass at a theme park which already suffers from a critical lack of major rollercoasters when they can pay $100 for a theme park which is putting in Australia's first Hypercoaster? I mean, apart from families with small kids...? This is going to be another brutal blow to Dreamworld which has badly needed a major full circuit coaster for years now and which is at a point in their lifespan now that if they DON'T make the investment needed, the worst case scenario creeps ever more slightly into the picture (permanent closure). Keen to hear your thoughts.
  20. I am just so BEYOND shook. I randomly stumbled upon this site yesterday morning around 11:50 and was perusing the hypercoaster construction thread and saw a recent flurry of posts which alerted me to the impending announcement. I then proceeded over to Movie World's Facebook page and saw the video uploaded literally minutes before. I had never clicked a video THAT fast. Immediately I had goosebumps and shivers running my spine. That deep masculine voiceover, the pristine visuals, the CGI of the actual coaster in motion and then getting to witness the train design and the Joker at the top of the lift hill were all too much for my little body to handle, i was SHOOK TO MY CORE. But then the climax came when the "you can ride it...backwards" announcement came. Oh LORDT i was shooketh! Movie World, I want to thank you from the bottom of my happy heart from all of us in the coaster community for bringing this world class rollercoaster to Australia. Yesterday i bought 4 VIP passes for my family to enjoy to celebrate this groundbreaking event and to show appreciation to my favourite theme park for STEPPING UP THEIR TITTIES and delivering something revolutionary for us. Other local parks should take note because i don't see a bright future for some of them with Movie World taking the clear front lead ahead of the competition.... With 1.4 million views on Facebook, approaching 100 000 combined views on youtube and then other social media pages (twitter, instagram) and word of mouth taken into account, this coaster is doing just the trick for Movie World. And some of you thought they were stupid for leaving the announcement this late. Actually, i think they were rather smart. Look at all the hype they built up! And then, BAM! Millions of views in one day!
