The Parkz Update Dreamworld & WhiteWater World, March 2015
Brad2912 replied to Parkz News's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I've never worked out how to post photos on these forums after many years -
Think you may find VRTP is a bit more focused on one of its existing coasters currently rather than procuring a new one...

I don't think 'your post is silly' is an example of an insult, nor reason to be offended.

2hr line for TRR on a weekday? Haven't even seen a 2hr waitline on a weekend for years -
Well, you are making an assumption in saying it is not their fault. It's an outcome we would all hope for, but a lot of investigation will have to take place before any blame is cast or rescinded from any of the parties involved. Accidents do happen. Not sure what dictionary you use, but all accidents have a cause and effect. The cause will almost always lead to some element of fault. I think maybe you meant 'intent' rather than fault. Is someone not at fault in every car 'accident'?

Yep. There's gorillas and hippos living in the containers til the exhibit is built. Stay tuned for more info!
-
The message is certainly automated and begins when the e-stop is pressed. There was never any danger of the ride re-starting however.

No idea what hydraulics they are referring to continuing to engage?? As for speed, it was the first corner after the drop, so the climb out of the dip would drop speed to a designated speed range to safely make the corner. The only way a car could enter that corner any faster than expected would be in the trim breaks between the lift Hill and drop didn't engage, or if during the drop some of the assembly had already begun to separate from the track causing less friction and natural deceleration They had ride manufacturers in the 1700s?? Why were the trying to build cars when they had rollercoasters? We could have just coasted to from city to another

Yeah you have a wheely good time on it

As great as it is having Mark commenting in the forum, I'd say this is one thread he'll not be sharing his thoughts on.

Channel 9 news just interviewed a rider, who said there was a load scraping noise like metal on metal before an immediate stop and tilt. The report also stated one rider suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung
-
The GM was just interviewed on Hot Tomato (local GC radio). Fairly typical PR exercise, but I guess at least he allowed himself to be interviewed live. A few wrap up points (in his words) *the ride had multiple redundancies in the event of a safety issue * the team are trained on evac's regularly * he was up on the ride helping with the Evac - I found that incredibly strange * the people in the car were very calm When asked if there was any real risk that the car could have come off the tracks he replied: * when maintenance and Fire & rescue arrived we firstly secured the vehicle to ensure it was safe to Evac - quite a good redirect, what about prior to them Being able to stabilise it? It's hearsay but there has been some rumours going around that it was 2 single bolts left holding the car to the Track.

If we are looking a long term closure, it may expedite plans for a new attraction. The park already severely suffered from not having a full day worth of attractions. We hit winter with WWF basically friendless, no GL and then another attraction down on scheduled maintenance be it SE or AA and all of a sudden it's not even a half day park

Sorry I should have been more specific, I know there have been numerous issues over the years with travelling shows/rides. My comment was with regards to fixed ride at theme parks. Well it was an accident, and you don't have to die to be a victim, so I wouldn't say it was too Exaggerated in that regard. I also wouldn't really comsider the issue to the 'well contained'. I know MW said that themselves and the fire & rescue had trained for this incident occurring, but I think that's covering bases. They may have trained for a vertical retrieval of passengers, but not under the circumstances of today's incident
-
Really? I've never heard of another occurance of a ride train being partially and close to completely derailed 35m up in the air. When did something worse occur? (not including the Ghost Train disaster at Luna Park)
-
Push button, your missing ALOT. Those notices are in regards to the occasional e-stop. This is no occasional e-stop. This is as far as I am aware the most serious safety event/concern on a ride in Australia, ever. If the sign said "riders beware ride components may fail whilst onboard' I don't think many would be riding. On another day that train could have come completely off the track. It was not a secondary safety system that stopped disaster. You can't minimalize it.
-
Don't think anyone is being critical of the ride ops, what could they have done? Probably safe to say the wheel assembly probably collected some of the track as it fell causing an e-stop. Which opens up a genuine concern as how close the assembly could have come to cars awaiting unload in the brake run Operators wouldnt have been able to see the car through the roof. I'd It was a manual stop it would have been reactionary to ether a noise or reaction from the queue line

Nice filter bro...

I have no doubt MW will do their due diligence with regards to the who, what, where, how etc etc, and when the time comes for it to reopen it will be with sureity of its safety - so sign me up, I'll go on it. If that's your thoughts Bladex you best not ride anything at MW again as its the same maintenance crew for the whole park
-
If that was the case we're basically looking at a catastrophic failure, and pretty much some luck that we didn't have full separation from the track? No?
-
A few people had said they heard a 'bang' before the incident. But it couldn't effectively have hit something surely that wouldn't have done more damage to the front car as opposed to the back. And given the ride had been operational all morning, what could it have hit unless a part from the previous car through had 'fallen off' and stayed on the track (I know the plausibility of that is ridiculous but so too would be what I'm looking at in these pics and first hand this arvo) That was my initial though to. Surely they can winch the raised side down, unless they have concerns about the other side of the ride and over balancing somehow. It just really doesn't make much sense at all. The entire assembly is missing from the back of the car. Could have been very nasty had it hit the queue line. It appears as though the footrest/restraints have hit the front car, is it possible that this contact is what has stopped it flipping over entirely? That could explain their unwillingness to move the people from that side Update: Everyone is now evac'd. That was the easy part, Now the investigation begins...
-
Looks to me like one side of the ride has detached completely, which seems to also be referred to in the most recent reports coming through that whilst 2 young kids have been removed from the car, the remaining 6 are being told to stay put to avoid the weight shift causing issues. About as useless a source as they come.

Way too early to tell. There will be myriad of information/reports/investigations to be done first. Structural issue could see a worldwide investigation take place into design & manufacturing. Maintenance issue could see MW facing what would be an unprecedented level of scrutiny.
