  1. They'd be so insanely marketable too. Australia has never seen a similar ride type before.
  2. Site looks absolutely gorgeous, congratulations Richard/Nick. One suggestion I'd have is in our "About" page, have a numbered "Flat Rides Ridden", "Coasters Ridden", "Parks Visited" section. Nice to have a list of rides & parks but I'd love to have numbers to show off our overall dorkness.
  3. Wow Dollywood's POV is horrible. Had to mute CF's version but they at least did a good job of mounting it and actually shooting in widescreen... I agree would be a great addition for Movie World - you'd think the backwards novelty would be lost though. That'd make it the 3rd ride to have a reverse section
  4. Managed to pop into MW today for an hour during an overnight visit to the GC... walk ons on most rides. Few things I noticed (pre apologies for the rushed post) - Very, very limited food options after 3PM. Totally recognise that it's likely not worth them keeping an outlet open but wow, those premade Caesar salad wraps and schnitzel rolls (basically the only meal option in the park at that time) are horrible. - No sound or music in the town area on WWF. Have to say though that even in December when the sound was working it still seems a little too quiet. Think adding a standard western track playing throughout this area could really sell that part of the ride more. - Scooby's laser room still sucks. Very very dark. Music sounds like it's playing out of a blown speaker in the corner. And only 1 green laser. Why not invest some money, laser the hell out of that room and sell it as Scooby 2.0? Use to be a really unique part of the ride, now it's just a standard mouse in a black box with some music.
  5. Been following this since it was announced. So far it looks ok but I'm not totally convinced... The trackwork of the coasters they've shown in video previews is horrible. Not sure if this is a result of rushing out content to please backers or the track building features aren't as flexible as they claim. With these guys behind Hyper Rails I'm a little sceptical on it all. The $100 kickstarter reward (request your own flatride to be included in the game) seemed overly ambitious but if they can pull it off, fantastic. Also what's being released on the 27th isn't anywhere near the full game. IIRC the announcement posted the other day mentioned that it'll only include the park designing features (path building, some environment editing etc). Some flat rides are included but they're not animated and coasters aren't included at all. So not so much of a release but rather a glimpse of what we can expect. Good on them though for realising the true enormity of the project and giving the community something. IMHO NL2 and it's scripting feature is a lot more exciting. I think we'll start to see some truly amazing things this year. While TPS seems to be more accessible, NL2 looks scarily realistic at times and there is virtually nothing that can't be achieved with scripting.
  6. Wow definitely hope separate gate rumours are untrue.
  7. I haven't seen that wavepool concept before. Very interesting. Also interesting to see a couple of lazy rivers that actually look good. I think with the deadline they were trying to meet they realised that half of it wasn't feasible - at the end of the day the wave pool is still a wave pool and the park still has slides. The public doesnt know any better. I'm guessing they would've analyzed if spending the extra millions to realize the original concept would translate into a more successful park... And based on the recent attendance figures that answer was obviously no.
  8. Ninja, it's easy to miss a particular topic - especially when they're a little further down the page and not immediately obvious. No need to jump down their throat. I'll go ahead and lock this... j_m-kelly feel free to continue this discussion in the topic posted above.
  9. For me Corkscrew stopped being an icon when it was painted orange and replaced with horrible ugly trains (albeit the latter being unavoidable I'm sure). The park is evolving - if maintenance costs are becoming unreasonable to preserve what is now a mediocre roller coaster, get rid of it. I'm sure the land is needed and could be used for something that will become an icon for the next generation.
  10. Visited the park for the first time today. Got there shortly after opening and left at around 3. In that time we managed to get on 6 slides which I suppose isn't horrible - the carpark was probably 90% full. It's a bit too late to write up a proper review but just a few random notes: Breakers - the public has certainly spoken on this one. Only 2 of the 4 slides were running and it was either a walk on or very short wait the few times I went up that tower. Just seems to be a real wasted opportunity. I hadn't really been following this park's construction but was really disappointed that it only featured one uphill part. General consensus is that it's boring. Double BOWLSeye - again, no one likes it. It just doesn't gain enough speed for the bowl sections to be thrilling. Rafts would crawl around them (at least from what I saw). This would be literally a walk on if you didn't have to wait in the same queue for Riptide/The Curler which brings me to... Fastpass/Line Management - this seriously needs to be properly addressed in the off season. Small scattered ziptied A4 signs isn't good enough, proper signage and line division is needed. As mentioned above people were waiting 30-45 mins in line for the BOWLSeye even though it was a walk on. The T5/Tantrum/Bombora tower queue was crawling as Fastpass would always have priority. From base of stairs to the top was over an hour. We reached the front of the queue but waited for 2 loads as a couple groups with Fastpass came up. Not good. I don't mind the QLD fastpass - pay $20 for the top 5 attractions, but you can only ride each once. That's fair. We saw the same group of 4 ride Tantrum 3 times before us. Food isn't horrible. Definitely edible and not ridiculously expensive after the gold pass discount ($14 for burger/chips/drink). The main issue I have with the park is that it lacks atmosphere. It really does feel like a super generic water park. Slides, concrete and generic shade cloth. Don't get me wrong, the slides are fantastic and it's something Sydney desperately needed but I would've loved to see a few million thrown at dressing the place up a bit. Perhaps once the greenery grows in a bit it'll feel a little less basic!
  11. Time to sell the park to a Singaporean businessman.
  12. Ok, let's list through their new additions. Forgive me if it's out of order. Evilution/AVPX - laser tag should be in a bowling alley not a theme park. Pandamonium - spin 'n spew. Shockwave - spin 'n spew. Buzzsaw - low capacity, one trick pony ride that doesn't do the trick very well IMO. Not really rerideable. Dilapidated theming. Motocoaster - poorly designed. Sea World managed to buy the same model with a really fun layout while still remaining family friendly. You don't see kids running off Motocoaster and joining the queue again like you do with Jet Rescue. The Claw - spin 'n spew. Cyclone - only purchased because it was a relative bargain. Wasn't designed for the park so ultimately it's a drawn out boring and rough Arrow next to (what was a) carpark. Don't get me started on the operations (15 min dispatches). So IMO their last decent new ride was GD/TOT. Substantial investments that put the park on the map. Without these two rides the park is a collection of mediocre attractions. MW is still a great park even if Superman or Scooby is down for maintenance.
  13. A 500ft spinning tower ride off the back of a fantastic, immersive multi million dollar attraction vs a starflyer after spin 'n spew flat ride #2678. Dreamworld haven't added a decent ride in years - and no I wouldn't count Buzzsaw as one. They're long overdue a substantial investment, not fill ins that will scrape them through the Summer. MW is definitely the favourite child here but after visiting Dreamworld last month and spending $90 to walk through a park with no atmosphere and sit in unnecessarily long lines (thanks to horrible understaffing and poor operations), I can see why a lot of the hate is justified.
  14. FWIW Wipeout was down when I visited mid Dec. Has it operated this summer?
  15. It also features a lazy river that serves somewhat of a purpose with slides in the middle. Much prefer the look of that than what was built. Re the strange operating hours, it seems management are only interested in opening the park when they know it'll be slammed. Makes me wonder if they're even remotely interested in targetting the domestic/international market. I know I wouldn't travel 45 - 90 mins (peak starts at around 3 in Sydney and you don't want to be on the M4 then) for a few hours at a park
  16. Not sure how they'll be able to justify $70 for 5 hours? Reduced single day entry surely?
  17. Yep I really don't think they're going to abandon a $120m investment because of a few issues. The park is in for a long successful future. In other news a friend of mine visited the park and they're now offering all day fast passes for (apparently) $50.
  18. Yes, from what I'm gathering of the whispers is that the organiser was forced to cancel as a result of WnW not being fully prepared. My guess is that WnW gave them a choice - go ahead with no alcohol or cancel, hence being the organiser's "decision" to cancel.
  19. I personally know the organiser (or one of them). He has put on plenty on successful events and is well respected within the industry. AFAIK all stages had been setup and the venue was 100% ready to go - what caused the plug to be pulled I'm not sure, but I have no doubt that he would've done everything in his power to avoid cancellation. He lived and breathed this event for the past few months which is why I'm leaning towards WnW being responsible.
  20. ^ Really? I'd rather be slightly inconvenienced by this than endure a day at Dreamworld again.
  21. That's incredible. Pretty much craps all over Sunway's excuse that the market wasn't there for Wonderland.
  22. Went to Dreamworld today (typing on my phone - apologies if this sounds rushed). So sad what that park has become. Operations were abysmal - 1 operator on both Buzzsaw and Cyclone meant cycle times were 5-10 mins. No calling out for single seats or even pairs, saw multiple trains being sent out with 1, 2, 3 empty seats. 1 Giant Drop side was closed for no apparent reason, turning a relatively small and fast moving queue into a frustrating long one. I just don't get why you would buy very low capacity rides then staff them with the absolute minimum. They're sacrificing guest satisfaction to save $100-200 in wages. Very very annoying! They're playing the Insane Coaster Wars segment on the tv in the TOT2 in the queueline. Heard a couple people say that it completely ruins any surprise or suspense and they're right! Just seems so silly. Also the tvs aren't working in the Buzzsaw queueline but who didn't see that coming.
  23. I agree Alex, the seatbelts are very uncomfortable. Not sure why they're needed really. Was there last Thursday, broke down just as we were at the front of the line. Lift hill evac took a very long time - people were up there for over an hour. It reopened a couple hours later, managed to get on the first boat out before it broke down again a few minutes later... Apparently the blocks are playing up - something about the system thinking a boat has not cleared a block so it stops it on the lift hill. This then requires an evac and full reset. I'm super impressed by the theming. The ride fits in a lot better than I thought it did - pictures don't do it justice. They did a real fantastic job with the queueline, splashdown and surrounding area. The ride itself is fun enough... Not amazingly thrilling but it serves as a good family ride. Wouldn't of minded a longer darkride section, pre or post splashdown, but with the space they had to work with they did a fantastic job.
  24. ^ Looks different to me. Looks to be much better quality, although I would've preferred a handheld to better show the darkride portion. One thing that I've noticed from both POV's is that the splashdown area sounds pretty lifeless. Not sure if the camera's case is blocking the microphone but for me the audio doesn't match the disastrous visuals. Would like to hear sirens, wind, rain etc.
