Did I read it right that this is more of a park expansion than a whole new park? So this new entrance is actually to serve both existing and new?

Somehow I kind of lost track of this amazing construction effort but the new Scenic Railway at Scenic World opened today. http://www.scenicworld.com.au/experience/scenic-railway/ Looks like what IMO is the scariest thrill ride in Australia has retained a lot of what made it scary in the past. I certainly will miss the ridiculous completely open front of the train from the front row but other than that it looks like the engineering team at SW has managed to hit the perfect balance between modern standards and nostalgia. I certainly look forward to getting down and riding it when I get the chance. Congrats Scenic World

things you remember and miss from the gold coast theme parks
rappa replied to JeffreyMoore's topic in Theme Park Discussion
The Batman adventure was great when it opened but tired at best these days. Look at every other ride of it's nature, Star Tours, Back to The Future, etc, they have all moved on now. -
See I don't think the park was in bad shape when ToT went in, and we can hardly criticise the park for putting in a record breaker... But soon after is like when they jumped on the Six Flags model and it all went down hill. Disneyland is living proof you don't have to jump on a fad and abandon all heritage to make a dollar, quite the opposite. I don't like to bash for the sake of it but the DW park looks like shit these days. The only decent thing left is Tiger Island, the rest is just really poor form. They lack any strategic vision and the SBNO thing is ridiculous. Everyone criticised village for SBNO attractions in their parks and look, in the last 12 months pretty much all of those have been turned into new attractions. Yet Dreamworld just sits there rotting away.

Discussion: B&M Batman The Ride clone for Dreamworld
rappa replied to Linus1995's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I disagree, if getting a clone means a kick ass ride can come to Australia for cheaper then I'm all for it. We're isolated enough that it really doesn't matter if we get a cloned ride. Give me a rock n roller coaster any day over an original Invert coaster for example. -
Discussion: B&M Batman The Ride clone for Dreamworld

It's certainly much more of a kick ass ride than AA but just not from a marketability standpoint. Flyer, wing rider or floorless I'd say. Certainly something big WITH inversions. -
Discussion: B&M Batman The Ride clone for Dreamworld

Physically thy look pretty similar to AA at Movie World so not very marketable. -
Camera doesn't seem to refresh very often. Only about once every 24hrs

Yes open late, not close early. The early closing just causes dissapointment to guests. Try being a parent and explain to your child they can't have their last go on their favourite ride because it's closed early to cut costs. People often save something to the end of the day, not realizing its closed at 4 and then they miss it. The Goldrush thing at wonderland was ok because it was at the bottom of the park and there was plenty to do at the entrance. Dreamworld just isn't laid out like that. If they ran the wildlife experience from 11-4 I'd have less of a problem with it.
-
Hmmm sounds a bit fishy. They state they are on normal trading hours of 10-5 but then say to get the 'off peak attractions guide' which sounds to me like something that shows which rides close early. I could be wrong, but doesn't quite sounds right to me.

New show at the Wanner Bros Movie World Show Stage?
rappa replied to TheThemeParksGuy's topic in Theme Park Discussion
It's really just the filming an projection system that is patented however that doesn't mean squat down here outside the US. I actually think the venue should be refitted as a full on theatre style venue and be used for external shows to tour in. Ads a revenue stream to the park and a new Gold Coast entertainment venue. -
I'm sorry but that's a piss poor operating procedure. I understand parks open some things later in the morning, and a water park alternating slides every hour. But closing rides at 4 is just a bullshit cost cutting exercise at the expense of the guest experience.

Seems like a lot at once and to be honest if I were a family with young kids I'd be annoyed. Not having an end date is not usually a sign of normal planned maintenance. It's weird it seems in the past 12 months, movie worlds maintenance has gotten heaps better but Dreamworld has done the opposite.
-
To be honest it may well be true and just not time accurate. When a park is getting a new attractions, little details do tend to filter down to front line staff, they just don't always have the complete picture of timing, firm budgets, etc.

We try to moderate as little as possible. Everyone should be mature enough to get along and sort their own stuff out. That's what I like about this site (and a few others I frequent) and it won't change soon. I try to avoid the hey I know this but can't say why posts but sometimes you just can't help it. However if you post something that seems highly unlikely or even can be disputed I'd be prepared for some backlash.

^ I respectfully disagree. Robb is a friend and I find him to be very enjoyable to hang out with. The thing is TPR is a business and so are the trips, so don't be fooled into thinking that just because you fork out a few grand for a trip it means you will be life long besties with Robb and Elissa any more than you would with any other tour company. Hey your personalities may well gel and you do become great friends but maybe not, a tip is not to hang off them like a bad leech or be some kind of stalker because people do that and it's not cool. Robb is pretty much a straight up guy, treat him well and he will treat you well. Be a demanding bitch and you'll get dissed, it's pretty simple. And bare in mind, it can't be easy to put up with the endless stupid bullshit on that site and be roses all the time. I've only done the one trip, the first one back in 2006 and it was one of the most enjoyable holidays I've ever had. Met some great fun people and just really had a great time. IMO if you don't just make the trip about being a theme park nerd 24/7 you can have an amazing time, switch off at the end of the day, have a beer with the other trip people and just enjoy where you're travelling and the people you're with. I also spent a small amount of time with the group on the Australia trip, and it doesn't look like anything has changed. The trips are expensive on face value but you get a lot more than you probably would on your own and especially with Japan, they have done LOADS of trips there and they love the place. I would do another trip in a second should I have the time and funds.

We cant really say whether it's the best or not until is built. Plus being the best isn't just about a ride lineup it's the experience as a whole. We cant really say whether it's the best or not until is built. Plus being the best isn't just about a ride lineup it's the experience as a whole.

Well given that I don't need to conceal the way I found out to protect the person or myself or anything like that and just enjoy being cryptic so I can get off on it like a big douche please see the answer to your question below: http://tinyurl.com/38wsbl
