  1. That only happens at Disneyworld Richard!
  2. It all just comes down to dollars. Clearly someone is now looking at the 'is it worth it' angle. They figure if they don't open, most people will come a different day anyway. The parks were actually open for the Anzac Day holiday and we're really busy. I think it's been a long time coming they people are now looking at this factor. You only have to check the Outback Spectacular show schedule to see that there are now some thursdays with no show, but 2 shows on saturdays. I'd much rather see this approach to saving money, than cutting corners within the parks.
  3. Cracks me up... I liken Maccas to Disney... clearly they are the best at what they do and no one else even comes close. So is it ego or stupidity that makes other companies think their way is better?
  4. You've also got public holiday penalty rates to factor in there as well... I also think that perhaps peopel could do better things with their time than go have fun at a theme park on Anzac day...
  5. Everyone takes it because it abolished a Sea World (not to mention Gold Coast) institution, that as mentioned is what founded the park. It's a mediocre show at best, and crap at worst. It's straight out of the 80s and not even in a good way. Even forgetting all that, most believe it was more a political than creative move to replace the ski show in the first place. Stunt Driver replaced a much loved and awesome show, any had many people criticize it (myself included). But I will be the first to admit it has improved a lot and is still an entertaining show. This thing is rubbish though.
  6. I would say it was the owners themselves that designed and built it, but I'm guessing fellow forum member jasicia may have some answers for you...
  7. Not completely true, they have done this before, it's usually so that guests can see they are definately removed and not just missing from the site. Helps with complaints once they get to the park. I just noticed myself that the fibreglass from the slides is almost completely gone, I've been off the past 2 days. Time will tell if they plan to try and re use the tower in some way for the new slides and save on building costs. Would be interesting to see if the slides are neatly stacked out the back or if they have gone to the dumpster. Looks like the source that the Aqua Loops would take these 2 slides' places was correct after all.
  8. I don't see the big deal. What are you searching for Rob that this thread comes up in? Who cares if it's bumped, it's not like this is the most active forum anyway, let the guy upload the photos if he wants. Geeze they are of more interest than half the crap people insist on writing here. Sorry that's just my rant, let moderators moderate, and members participate! **All posts of non relevance and just serving to have a go at a member who is actually contributing have been deleted
  9. WOW... Just WOW I'm gonna enter the name the slides Sugar Additives, because it contains both SWEET, like cause these slights will be sweet hey, and ADD, which has to be playing some part here. Plus I really like sugar, it makes coffee tastes better. Which is good, because sometimes in the morning I have to wake up early, and I don't really like waking up early. So a coffee helps me get going. Ice break is my favourite if I can't get to a real coffee shop. But sometimes I'm lucky and I can go to Zaraffas. I think I'm going to like these slides a lot, which isn't all that weird, because I like new stuff, and slides are always fun. That's kind of weird because these will be both!
  10. At the risk of encouraging yet another resurrection from the dead I always feel sorry for the person who is on the ride that feels the need to highlight to the other riders how many times they have been on the ride by shouting out stuff like that. I always wish they actually had friends to be at the park with rather than reaching out to complete strangers in a rather disturbing way.
  11. I will admit to sitting staring at that thing for the past 45 mins (a tablet PC helps a lot!). What these sims (especially tower of terror) do is give you a great appreciate as to how much work behind the scenes goes into keeping one of these Disney E Tickets operating efficiently... Now of course there isn't one person controlling all of these elements, but there is one computer system. Obviously the goal is to get all those elevators dispatching full, and dispatching the second the block is clear. To achieve both at the same time requires very precise timing, especially when you want that car loaded at dispatch time but you don't want the guests sitting in there with the doors closed for more than a second. Add to this the need to keep guests flowing from the pre show rooms but not waiting too long in the boiler room, and there is a lot at work here. Much more than your typical park attraction of line up, get on, get off!
  12. For all you fellow self confessed Disney Nerds out there here is your chance to sit in the hot seat and play tower cast member. http://simulations.themagical.nl/index.php
  13. The key factor is it needs to be something highly marketable in order to justify the investment. We all know these non looping super airtime giants are by far the best coasters but it's very hard to market such a ride here in the aussie market. I will stand by my long term opinion that a stand up coaster is the most marketable attraction a park here could build. Get a Riddlers clone, save on the design costs and reap the cash. Alternatively I would vote for a Giant Inverted Boomerang as I've ridden the coaster and whilst it may be slightly rough, it's a kick ass thrill and again hugely marketable. You really need to be looking at a ride that produces the "Are you serious, it goes BACKWARDS/YOU STAND UP?" kind of response with the public.
  14. We were circulated a memo today informing us that the park would be moving to weekend only operation following the easter school holidays. The weekend only operation would continue (with the exception of school holiday periods) until the september, where the park would resume 7 day operation for the summer. This is a model Tim Fisher had in effect at Wonderland during his time there so it does not surprise me he is trialling it in a bid to cut costs and raise daily attendance at the park. As Sea World and Wet N Wild had more consistent year round attendance levels, they will not be changing from 7 day operation at this time. Very interesting move...
  15. This is great, I have very fond childhood memories of that place and am kind of sad that it closed before I was really old enough to remember it properly. If they have any more articles it would be great if you could keep uploading them! I remember having a lot from the place in my 'brochure bag' when I was a kid. I remember them adding a large interactive water play zone one year but I never got to go in it before it closed.
  16. I've been wondering how it would work and why not just make a vertical loop... Thanks for explaining everything for us
  17. You really can't run a Theme Park like any other business and expect to make reasonable capital expansions every several years or so. You have to make excessive capital expansions every 2 to 3 years to stay competitive. Look at Cedar Point spending tens of millions every other year. Now our parks are no Cedar Point in terms of income but Dreamworld have to get serious. They are becoming the Wonderland of the gold coast. They really need to be looking at a minimum 16 million dollar attraction next financial year or they are becoming a bit of a joke. If you can't pull that kind of funding, then you have no place running and managing a theme park in this day and age. The public expects more. Attendance speaks for itself. With Universal Singapore on the verge of opening it's time for the Gold Coast parks to step up, otherwise anyone who isn't in either SW Qld or Sydney will really have to consider their options.
  18. For anyone interested in AOS and the matters mentioned above, I can confirm the show is now back up and running with all of it's effects and all that jazz just as they were... No WWF style action there.
  19. WVTP is also not in the habit of putting any of it's workers at risk either, even if works are determined to do so themselves. Safety is the number one priority for the company if not now more than ever.
  20. My observation is this... Given quite a few members of this site are employed by warner village theme parks and NONE of them have posted any information about the above mentioned fire it would seem to suggest it might be something other than "non news." Should it in fact be a very serious matter and big deal I would imagine it just downright stupid for anyone with inside knowledge to post such knowledge in a public arena such as this. I will say this though, the company never does anything unsafe and given the show was open tonight, there is clearly obviously no danger or risk to any member of the public.
  21. OH FFS!!!! PIRATE PHOTOS IN WESTERN TOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought they were hideous at SW because they are tacky as hell, but for christ sake, Pirates in Western Town????? Maybe they need the internet cafe so guests can get on and email guest services with their complaints even BEFORE they get home.
  22. That is the worst friggen idea I have ever heard! Clearly Mario has just COMPLETELY lost the plot... GRRR the revenue department just keeps finding more ways to seriously annoy me!
  23. I sent an email to guest services asking about the worklights being on in Bermuda, the response was hilarious stating than a special effect was broken that day so the lights were required for safety reasons so the control room could see what was going on. This completely contradicts reports that the work lights are now on every day! Also if you go to a Disney park, if a special effect that is required for the ride to function is broken, they FIX IT, not run the ride anyway. If we have to destroy the ride to have it open, don't open it until it's fixed. Guests should never get to experience "backstage the ride" in my opinion.
  24. If by temporarily disabled you mean all that is requred is an entirely new gas pipeline run from behind Sea Viper to Bermuda underneath Jet Recue to get it 'enabled' again then yes the fire is temprarily disabled. The fire is gone, the gas supply to the system is gone, it will never return. There was no problem with a 'sensor not turning off' or any accident like that, Ride Ops spin such bullshit it's not funny. It's nothing more than not wanting to spend the money to fix a damaged pipe, thats it. However there are more than just minor touch up jobs wrong with the ride these days, there are whole chunks of theming just wasting away, so who even knows how salvagable this ride is.
