  1. Ok I think it was about time I asked some people to grow up. I always think people should show a bit if respect for the thread starter if they were respectful with their post. Ally didn't choose the ride, she is simply marketing it. If anyone has a problem with the marketing by all means direct it towards her, but if you wish to bAsh the attraction choice perhaps do it in one of many threads devoted to slamming dreamworld. I just think it's clear by now who thinks what about what they've chosen to install so perhaps we could keep this thread for discussion of the ride itself. Richard has worked to build a good relationship between this site and the parks and if all the members do is insult them and offer nothing constructive they'll simply stop talking to us. For the most part I don't see hardly anyone offering good well thought out construction ideas other than Gazza.
  2. I'm guessing the highly themed 'bumper' is a OH&S measure to protect the operators, likely there have been a lot of incidents of them being hit by cars if this has been put in place?? There is so much light in the last room because the gel colours have been burnt through so the lights are now white instead of dark blue... Good to see the smoke was happening in the main room How good to the new lasers and all the clean mirrors look!
  3. I don't think there is the slightest chance of it opening on the 15th, the 26th would surprise me to be honest. I hope it opens for Christmas for revenue's sake but in respect to show quality I'm happy to wait as long as it takes. Remember the last major show that WVTP opened did so months later than expected, missing it's first christmas but the end result was a complete success. As for you Klassen I couldn't be bothered. You just continue to bring us all your inside knowledge and we'll continue to be suitably impressed.
  4. Well PR girl I'd first like to say I sincerely hope the (in my opinion over the top) backlash from many posters on the site will not discourage you from using this sort of open door marketing in the future. I must applaud you for doing something that is truely innovative in this country and a first and that is actually bringing the development of a new attraction out into the public eye. Your competitors (whom I work for) insist on continuing to pretent an attaction doesn't exist until just before it opens and then flood the market with advertising media. As far as managing the brand goes, I believe thats a pretty closed minded way of doing it! Its shown that overseas parks (whether it be the Alton Towers method of secrecy and suspense or the Cedar Fair way of extensive internet blogs) is very successful at introducing a new attraction. In my opinion the best attraction marketing campaign we have ever seen in this country was the launch of Space Probe 7 at AWL. It's a bit sad that it was over 10 years ago and we're still yet to top it. As one of Dreamworls biggest critics it will surprise many not to see anything negative from me in this post. Ally you'll find that if you're not builing a record building coaster, members of this site with complaign no matter what the justification. Times are tight, you're owened effectively by a bank, I'm not surprised that no record breaker is going in this year. I have no doubts that if Jet Rescue wasn't signed off on a long time ago it wouldn't be happening this year. I think its a smart decision for you to trial a new marketing technique on a minor attraction, to test the water, I hope you find it successful and continue with it. As for posts from engineering, I think we'd like to see a lot more technical details than try to gloss over with buzz phrases like using aircraft technology. Those of us reading those posts want to know what hydralic systems you're using, who builds the PLC technology, how the show control systems are intergrated and that sort of high level detail. Save the general discriptions for posts from people like yourself in Marketing and let the engineers give the readers credit and have them write in their own language. The big bone of contention here seems to be that its an upcharge. I say so the hell what. You HAVE to make an attraction like this upcharge simply because of its low capacity. If you want to go out on (like flowrider) $5 is nothing, but if you don't charge that EVERYONE will want to ride and you'll have 4 hour ques for a bloody simulator. So of course it's an upcharge. Do I agree with its location? No! Do I believe the PR waffle about it being able to be used after hours so thats a justification? No! What it is, is a low maintenance, relatively low cost addition to the park, that distracts the public from the fact the park hasn't installed a true thrill ride (read big coaster) since Tower of Terror and Giant Drop and it badly needs to. However, look at that disgusting excuse for a cheap arcade in western town at Movie World... I'd much sooner see the V8 attraction, it's got just about as much relevance to Ocean Parade as Dodgem Cars and Air Hockey have to making movies... Welcome to the site and keep up the great work Ally. You'd be the first park employee, posting officially as a park employee, for the park on this site, and I commend that!
  5. just thought I'd point out that Surfrider is now back open and both sides are spinning. I for one commend the tech services department commitment to getting this ride running.
  6. First of all Open means open. Released means announced and of course it has been released, there is both in park and external advertising. Klassen I think it's a bit hypocritical of you to slam some one else for leaking stuff. You make many posts sharing info you obtain through work and not available to the public. Having said that, this site will not condone, promote or host footage against the wishes of the parks.
  7. I believe there is an additional full colour laser now and all programming has been redone. Plenty of smoke has been added but last I was there there were still issues with fire alarms and smoke in the last room.
  8. Some members will have noticed that all trace of a recently registered member has been removed from the forums... This member account was created fraudulently by someone attempting to impersonate a WVTP employee and post privledged information to this forum. At the request of WVTP management those posts have been deleted and this member has been blocked. Please take this as a warning to anyone thinking about doing something like this. The parks take this very seriously and this person will very likely be prossecuted for his actions. To any staff of the theme parks, please remember your employment contracts as I can assure you they will be watching very closeley for a while.
  9. Please see the thread in the general forum regarding recent fraudulent memberships
  10. Think you missed the point... no matter how many 'friends' you might have in the show, personally I'll be taking Chris' word on this one. Or everyone one really for that matter.
  11. oh that cracks me up klassen that you're talking down to and arguing with the last poster. Just hillarious.
  12. Yeah it may have changed but it still has broken down theming, low capacity, terrible staff and even worse patrons. The fact is that most of the staff at SFMM (and Knotts for that matter) are more worried about the fact they can hear themselves on a microphone than serving the guests.
  13. The work on the lasers and fog would take at most one 8 hour day to acomplish so no worries with the timeframe.
  14. The rules are there due to copyright and licensing laws. The park has a license to use the footage, characters and that sort of thing but the licence does not extend to photographs being taken. The other part of it is they don't want footage being filmed to protect their ride in terms of people stealing it. At our show no video or photography is allowed for the same reason. Initially we did allow still photography without flash, unfortunately people tend to be too stupid to realise a flash can spook an animal and kill or injur someone so now there is no cameras period.
  15. I did say going to be... not already happened.
  16. So I thought I would make a bit of an update. Now I have no hard facts or anything like that to post (because I can't) but I have it on good authority that there is a lot of work going to be happening soon on Scooby's effects. I believe one of the projection people has been working hard on getting the ride up to its former (and more even) glory and we're going to be all blown away. I for one can't commend the park enough for this, as nev said, the ride has had its day in terms of an investment so to see time, money and effort put into it just for the sake of improving the guest experience is awesome. I can't wait to see the final outcome, and am surprise and excited that some comments on here could in fact lead to such big things. Way to go Drs everywhere!
  17. I think underestimated definitely sums up this ride. I know that was certainly the case for myself as the ride completely blew away my expectations
  18. Front line employees don't always get given the real story... and bolts can be removed so...
  19. Internet was welcome, Renee even said so, they just perhaps didn't so an INVITE for parkz... or maybe Richard was just busy today. Joz and I could have represented but I guess we were too busy having fun. It's pretty hard with a slide, not much to review, just go ride it. From what I understand the collection of boy and girl hotties were hired models to add some eye candy when they completed the tv commercial this afternoon. Did you ride Gazza? It's certainly steeper and more sudden than tornato and in my opinion more re-ridable. I dunno, I just couldn't help smiling and laughing the whole time. You feel a lot less safer than on tornado in my opinion.
  20. As long as the water doesn't actually soak the cars you won't have any poor long term effects. Things like meefog should be fine and me personally, I'd like to see the whole area flooded with a few inches of water.
  21. Why didn't we see you there? You should have said hi... you weren't riding were you? Nothing Alex, just as we were exiting about 30 blonde bombshells in bikinis decended on the area, it was quite a sight! The ride experience is much more intense and I guess almost more violent (but in a good way) than tornado.
  22. The map has to be redrawn anyway once the site in finsihed as it will show the set in full detail. Drawing the walls is a no brainer for the art department, that likely took about 10 minutes to knock up for the current 'temp' map. Yes it's expensive to do this but this is no low budget show is it. Apart from sight lines the walls also help to reduce the contruction noise impacting on the neighbours and the park, the holes are needed for vehicle access to the site.
  23. With the high attractions in the park like Wild West Falls and Batwing they want to ensure there is no way you can see into the site. Superman is ok because you are facing the other way.
  24. No cameras on the slide! And I wasn't walking all the way back to my bag to get a photo that you will see tons of in the next few days I'm sure. And putting an announcement in the news section of the radio is harldy going to make a whole bunch (and I mean thousands not tens) change their plans for the day just to go to Wet N Wild. If anything it would probably make them NOT go, as it would make you think it would be busy.
  25. No, no cameras allowed, unless they are carried by big american accent camera type dudes. Not really, park seemed pretty quiet, the opening is not being advertised so... although it would appear a large vessel landed nearby direct from scandinavia as we were leaving. The rafts are solid but not really hard to carry, unless you are a Olympian BMX rider in which case they seemed too much trouble to carry yourself and it appeared easier to have someone else carry the tube up and then just take theirs. Was there anyone else form this site on the media call?
