It's possible to check harness status if the train is stationary using sensors in the track. In fact they are not actualy sensors they are physical electrical contacts with the train. Basically a strip of copper that connects with a busher on the underside of the train to complete a circuit. These differ for the 'green boxes' which are proximity detectors which can sense the train even when it is travelling at speed. In the even something is not right and the ride goes into e-stop then the train/car would be stopped at the next block, of which on scooby for example there are plenty. Bit of trivia, it takes over 100 PLC commands just to get one car through the course of Scooby.

Construction underway on Movie World's newest ride
rappa replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I can certainly tell you that the park is hoping to have it open long before Boxing Day. BD is traditional for launching new attractions but it is hell on the operations department. Not having time to tweak how a new ride operated in regards to capacity, ops staffing, people management etc before one of your businest days of the year is a real strain on everyone. If construction timelines persist then the ride will certainly at least soft open prior to Boxing Day. Of course the thing still has to be delivered yet! -
It's funny because as much as I have come to dislike Dreamworld itself over the years the more and more I see of this park the more I am liking it. I really think that WWW is going to be a force to be reconed with and and awesome park when it is finished. Pretty well every single one of its attractions is at the top end of waterslide based attractions. WnW is going to have to pull out some big ones to combat this joint and I for one think that a little healthy competition between the two parks is going to be great. It's also great to see them doing everything right with WWW like leaving room for logical expansion and most imprortantly going the extra expense of adding raft conveyors for EVERY slide to save people having to drag tubes up stairways. Something I was very dissapointed to see WnW didn't do with Tornado. BRING ON DECEMBER!

It's so funny how many people miss the point of Seaworld If you want cheap thrills ship yourself up to Coomera, Seaworld is about so much more than that. And for all of those that say it's boring and won't return then I don't think you'll be missed. I for one am really happy this is one park WVTP are not trying to push into the teen/thrill market as they are now doing with WnW and WBMW.
-
Well they have definately covered the pool area with a concrete slap. And there is now signage saying "New attraction december 2006." So I would rule out it being multiple carni rides just by the wording on the signage now around Blue Lagoon.

The Council can't stop them selling but they can very easily not rezone the land for industrial development. This would have made the land no where near valuable enough for resale and would have resulted in the park having to be sold as is. It's the same thing you see with a lot of councils, no different to the Peppermint Park saga in Port Macquarie years ago when that park was sold off to development.

Well maybe you should just wait and see... you just very well may get your wish... As for some cheap firecracker themed flat ride, I really don't think this is what movie world is about/should be aiming for, do you?

Construction underway on Movie World's newest ride
rappa replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Well I hope to have all the details on the theming for this ride within the next week after catching up with some people in the know... Will keep everyone posted -
Nah Space probe was a little over HALF the height of GD so still a way from matching it even with another 1/3 on top of it's height again. If Movie World 'were' to get a Space Shot it would be nothing like Probe. And it's nothing like GD as it's a launch up, not a freefall down. I don't think MW would be silly enough to get a small version of the tower, I'd say they would more than likely get the max 200foot tall version if they went that way... (<- read into that what you like java script:emoticon('',%20'smid_14') ) As for telling secrets, many managers may talk about rumours but few ever actualy know what the ride is, who makes it, what model, height specs and so forth. There is also a BIG difference in telling someone in person and posting it IN WRITING on an internet site. If I was to run into a member of this board in person I may very well mention something about the ride, but at the same time I may not and there is no way Park Mgmt would know one way or the other. Post it in writing and they have it right there in front of them.

Well from all reports many of the staff were actually offered jobs within other areas of the company, and a few did take up the offer. We all have to remember that this really is the dead time of year and the bean counting has to be expected. I would be very surprised if I didn't see new hires equal to or in excess of the recent redundances within the next 3 to 4 months. You also have to wonder, if all of these people really were star employees and assets to the company, would they really be let go?
-
That's one thing I forgot to mention, the coast really is dead. Go out into town any night (even fri/sat) and there is no bugger here... Compare that with 12 months ago and mon especially but most other nights too were huge in surfers... there just aren't the people around in the area at the moment.

Well regardless of who I may work for I will stand by the fact that I think MW is a far superiour park as a package. Dreamworld lost it years ago when it took its focus to be purely a thrill park (ala Six Flags). Now if that is your think then great, go to Dreamworld, have a great time. The two park have two very different philosophys on what consitutes a 'theme park' and you really can't compare the two. My theory on where they went wrong with Superman is they went for a 'thrill seeker' type advertising compaign for a park that markets itself as a themed entertainment destination. They hit home with no one was the problem. The trill junkies dismiss it because they want to go to dreamworld because it has HEAPS of big rides. The families and people after a themed experience dismiss it because it was marketed as a thrill ride. I do believe the parks outlook is changing and it is trying to shift more towards a ride based park but at this point that is still not the perception the public has of it. This is all before anyone even steps foot in the park, let alone Superman. What is strange is this comes out of the same marketing department that took care of AOS and our marketing campaign has been anything but unsuccessful. People are coming in droves, so makes you wonder how they got it soo wrong with superman. As for the ride itself. I really can't understand anyone here... the ride kicks arse. Yes the theming isn't up to scratch for Movie World standard (which is a shame because it stops it from being perfect) but if it was at Dreamworld you would think it rocked. It does the job to at least add something to the ride, think of it as a pre-show. The coaster portion you really can't fault, its high energy, loads of airtime, and very intense as far as coaster experiences go. To say it throws you around I don't understand, let's compare it to Lethal. One of the most praised coaster designs is B&Ms batman inverts, they are 'intense' but that's different from throwing you around. Yes it's short, but that's the design, can't fault it for that. As far as smoothness, it's pretty damn good, it has some slight 'intamin shuffle' in a couple of the transitions but they all have that. Ride Xcel or Calif Screamin lately and it's very much there. Although you can feel it, it's not uncomfortable, the ride really does rock. I just can't believe we finally get a world class coaster and everyone wants to pick the crap out of it. THIS THREAD WAS ABOUT PEOPLE LOOSING JOBS, how did it get to bashing a coaster???

Well going by White Water's website the typical cost for an outdoor wave pool is around $250 000. Granted this is not for something like Typhoon Lagoons monster, but given these guys built that amazing wave pool, these are the guys we want building ours.

When you look from outside the park (even more so within it) you can really see what a HUGE slide this is. The support structure for the funnel is massive. As gazza said this is certainly THE thing in slides at the moment and really will add something world class to the park. Hopefully we will see a toilet bowl down the track, I can assure you they are much more intense than any helix on a flume, a real crazy ride. What I would love to see come to WnW is a Disco slide like Disco H20 in Orlando, that was an amazing, popular and very unique slide...
-
Yes but who you should be telling this to is WVTP and not it's employees. Regardless of what we think regarding wether or not the ride should be kept secret the point is that they are keeping it secret so we have to as well. Anyone who took a photo and posted it of plans in a back of house area would either be very stupid or very brave. There is a strict policy regarding the taking of photos back of house and I'm pretty sure they would go on a mission to find the culprit if such a photo got posted on here.
-
I don't think anyone is saying people can't post. All that was said is why SOME people CAN'T post because their identity is known. And if you think WVTP management don't read this forums you're very wrong, hell this site was brought up on my induction day and 3 members of this site were identified by the guy that was training us... everybody knows everything that goes on when it comes to people at wvtp.
-
Well that shows the funnel standing on its end. The frame has now been tipped on its side and hoisted into its proper position and boy does it look impressive! I hope to have photos for you all in the next couple days. I'm sure this one is going to be a hit! There has also been a fairly constant stream of blue and orrange slide pieces making their way along the road behind Outback Spectacular from Sound Stage 7 to WnW.
-
Unfortunately the only reason he can give away details is because no one kows who he is. If someone like Rabid (or even myself) were to post up here what we know from sources within the company then we'd get our arses kicked royaly from management. Thats what company policies are all about...
-
That would explain why I didn't notice it the two times I drove through Coffs on my way up earlier this year. Thought it was a bit strange Wasn't the aquajet the first slide built in Oz? Kind of a first project for AWSL?
-
Well that wouldn't be too hard to achieve now would it
-
Sorry, enough has been said from me on the topic already, can't do any more details I'm afraid. I will say though from the top of lethal weapon today you could see an aweful lot of shipping containers between it and WWF.

I'd say thunder is pretty on the money with June. I'd also say he is pretty damn correct with saying it's been bought and paid for. I'd also recon he is right that someone knows the specs of the ride. Pity he didn't say that some of it is already on site or I probably would have agreed with him again... I'll just add that in times like this it is often of benefit to be a subscriber as there is more likely to be decent discusions on topics like this in the subscription lounge.

Australian Outback Spectacular opens to the public
rappa replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
It's funny, AOS will be on Getaway next week (ie a week from this thursday) and when they were here last week even they said they were at Movieworld. I think WVTP at this point is taking any publicity it can get for the attraction so aren't too fussed on where people say it is, after all once you get there it's pretty hard to miss the building itself and the massive friken 30m flag pole! -

Well saving water is about only using what you need and recycling where possible. If it's necessary for us to wet down the arena in order to have the show then it's not really wasting it now is it. If we set up the massive sprinkler system in the car park and used it to keep our cars cool it would be a different story. -

Hey Livean Good to see another AOS member kicking around here. You should come and say hi one night, just look for me in my Johnny Cash Road Crew outfit. It's actualy a very delicate balance between having the sand wet enough and being too wet. Apart from kicking up when it's loose, it's also a problem for the horses in that they can slip over, also much easier for us to get the boom lifts bogged in dry sand. As a bit of trivia the sprinklers being on for 3mins is the equivelant of having somone hosing the sand with a fire hose for 1/2 hour.
