You should have gone down to Cartoon Beach and given the ride ops down there a hard time! I hear they are real bad these days, hiring anyone. Glad you liked the park, I think the staff there are fantastic and the parks looks beautiful. As for Corkscrew yeah maybe a few bits of paint but it's still running fantastic and I'm told they actualy skipped the planned down time because of its condition so I guess no paint. Funny you mentioned the braking, Joz and I often comment on this. At SW the Ride Op actualy parks the train MANUAL, no computers just human control and most times its just straight in first go. Cyclone uses computer control and thus 'jogs' the train in which is a complete joke. Just another reason why GO SEAWORLD!!

I would love to see something crazy like Perilous Plunge put in. It needs to be themed well (read: no bloody scaff towers) and with any luck we wouldn't get the harnesses. It is one amazing ride, almost as impressive from the midway as when coming over that drop!

What do YOU want in replacement of the Thunderbolt?
rappa replied to OzCoasterFreek's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I wouldn't say Oblivion isn't themed, its just in an area that doesn't exactly lend itself to excessive props, etc. IMO it is still well done. Anyhow I would really like to see whatever they build really be the Crown to Ocean Parade. Don't nesessarily go the Water Ride route as I think a coaster really is needed there. What I think it should be though is something that does interact with a heavy water theme and water elements well. Perhaps something like a splashdown or something like that. We will not see a Hyper or Giga, no way, I think that's just something we'll have to live with down here What I would like to see is something again from B&M (I wanted Intamin but MW is getting that now so all is good) and I'd be voting for Stand-up. IMO its the best gimmick to market as gets a good WOW reaction from the general public. Failing that floorless would be a good way to go however they really aren't all that different from a sit down, a good fun ride all the same but I'd sooner see something in the Riddlers league down there. -
Well yes 'there have been problems of late' with Intamin restraints but most of that is crap anyway. The only reason people fall out is because they have not been secured properly or have exceeded the restraints design. If you look at TOT there have been no problems with that system and Xcelerator has had no problems either. What is stupid is PP at Knotts has had harnesses retro-fitted to its cars whilst Xcel 250m away still has identical restraints The yankies are a bit stupid like that and given we have TOT here with no probs with its restraints we may well just get the lapbars (GREAT IMO). Im sure Mr Disney knows and we will all be enlightened once this goes public from the park.

Tell you what then Goboi, why don't you boycot this new coaster in protest? As for the rest of us, we'll probably happily ride it being thankful the park has invested in a world class coaster type. Seriously, can't we all just be happy that we are getting a new attraction?

I think you might be missing the point of Jambaroo RECREATION park where YOU control the action... The park has never been about big theme park style rides, its more like a Wet 'n' Wild style of park where all of the 'rides' involve some sort of Human participation. Apart from Water rides there isn't a lot they don't already have, I mean there are the Alpine slides and Go-Karts but there aren't an aweful lot of interative attractions left after that. It used to sit well with Wonderland as the other type of park... pity we don't have that anymore. Look forward to seeing what they come up with.

Clearly you need to ride Xcel Scott, I'm sure you will be pleasantly surprised once this ride is finished.

HA website, bit of a laugh to call it that in it's present form Amusingly enough both Nev and Myself were actualy over working on the Mardi Gras Party at fox that weekend! We work on a big variety of gigs, dance party wise I've been doing Transmissions for the last year and used to do a lot of parties for Fuzzy... Always funny to see how much of a small world it is around here.
-
NICE pics Skip, some of the nicest looking dance party photos I've seen. Always hard to capture lighting from parties in photos due to the conditions. Was that the Toy Box after party from MG? Nice to see you're a fan or Oracle but still didn't really explain where you fit into the scene... are you just a punter or what?
-
HAHA good ole Laservision, I agree their time is better spend in the office working on projects than out at gigs. Hey Skipper, curious as to where you know the Oracle guys from? Are you in the biz too? Better check my magazine stash (no not THAT stash Liam) as I think I may have your issue about probe!

AND SMOOTHER TOO! Hey Rabid we should meet up in a couple weeks, I'll be in town from the 6-9th of April...
-
Hey Cool to see yet another park worker on the forums!! I will be down at the Big Top wed/thurs this week, will you be at the park?
-
The one that was at LPS back in 95 is definately the same 'single ship' model that is at the park now.

Induction differs depending on what part of the site you would be working on/ visiting however it follows a general structure. Luna Park is no different to most work sites, you are briefed on the hazards you will encounter and how to minimise them. This could be verbal, a pamflet to read through or a video for example. You then sign off that you understand all that stuff and you are given some form of accreditation. For us it is usually a wrist band as this is the least hazardous and interfears the least with our work. No I am not a ride operator. I do however hang tons and tons of steal and electricity over the public and performers heads each and every day so I can safely say I so have an understanding of responsibility. The situation can easily be ported to my situation. The responsibility is not in the actualy pushing of the 'GO' button on a chain motor hoist controller it is ensuring everything is safe and up to scratch. This could be said to be the inspecting of the ride and checking restraints. The second part is the actual visual monitoring of the rig as it flys. This is ususaly done by several people out on the floor as well as the person pushing the button. There is an E-stop on the controller and anyone can hit that should there be a problem. So having someone else hold the go button why you standby and watch the process and are ready to hit the e-stop is not a problem. I did not specifically target the ride ops. at Luna Park! I'm talking about a good portion of the people operating rides, look at many of the carnies, employees at SFMM and yes even some of those at WLS, many of them leave a bit desired when it comes to utmost profesionalism and IQ. I understand and have often stated the responsibility involved in being a ride Op which is why I think they get paid way too little. Lets just not get carried away and make out like its friken rocket science.

LPS are extemely on the ball with ALL visitors to the site in terms of site induction whatever they are doing. I would therefore they would have given people a briefing including Mr Carr. Can I just say you all really need a life if you are concerned with him pussing a bloody button on a panel with an Op. standing next to him? Like he has the resposibility of an entire state, I'm sure he can deal with a couple dozen people on ranger. The dispatching of the ride is hardly the dangerous part, its the ensuring of everyones safety and monitoring the ride which the Op. would have been doing. Come on they let any moron be a ride Op., just look at half of them. As for the residents, HELLO THEY MOVED IN THERE! Get over it! Stop buying houses next to airports, theme parks and live venues and then complaining that they are there... rant off!
-
HEHEHE that's pretty funny because ToT was closed for probably 20 mins yesterday whilst they looked for a snake loose somewhere in the que... They never did find it

Two boats would not get loaded onto the lift hill at the same time... If you look at the lift hill you will see the bottom few meters is a rubber belt which progresses onto a chain lift. The two operate independantly of each other. If a boat is already on the chain lift the next boat will load onto the belt which will then stop until the preceeding boat has cleared the block at which time the belt will advance the second boat onto the chain lift. That clear it up?
-
And I won't, these sorts of Polls drive me nuts.
-
I don't know about the circuit in between, but I'm sure there would be some blocks in there, however the lifts do a fairly good job of controlling the interval between boats. You will notice that boats regularly stop on the conveyor lift section of the first hill. This would keep the interval always at the right duration therfore meaning blocks are only required if something happens to alter the speed of the boats moving through the course.

WOOHOOO Another "how good is it/which is better" thread
-
I'm with you Paul. When talking about it two weeks ago on the gold coast (we also mentioned the chair lift) I am also of the opinion that the ride went from MM to WLS then back to Surfers. Quite funny for such a crap ride.
-
Now I'm gussing pulling apart the tower will be a night mission (as the steel will expand in the day) it would be great to get a heads up on when this might take place. Would certainly be a site and something I'd love to document for the site. That's one job that's going to suck, as it's such an early version of the ride it won't be the cleanest built thing ever as being as it has stood in place so long and never intended to be pulled apart it could be a bit of a battle with it!

Okay here I go as I am very passionate on this issue... No they won't do anything about either the single and only reason being they are too cheap. They feel that they 'can get away with it' not fixing both of these problems so they wont. This sort of attitude is EXACTLY why nothing at this park will ever come close to this 'Disney Standard' often talked about. The mountain looks **** at the back, like just cover it up somehow, it doesnt need to be much and sugesting it's a set is just a cop out. If the Gold Coast council can theme an entire mobile phone tower perfectly to look like a palm tree then some fake trees wouldn't be too hard. Enclosing fire stairs is no where near as big of an issue as it is the same in any other building. It is quite obvious they though the scaff support would be hidden by the facade in the foreground but obviously they just didn't get it quite right with the perspective and this wasn't achieved. As far as the final lift I can see them not wanting to add in the sparks due to what happend. In my opinion this would be more to save face with the public than anything else... not a good idea to put fire type effects back in something publicly reported as catching fire. They could add in the other effects that were in there though and reduce the amber lighting and fix the timing to ensure the top doors do not open before the final drop doors have closed. As far as the top room is concerned it looks AWEFUL. Again not fixing it is just POOR FORM, they have the money to do so from the insurance and would have just used it on other stuff. Why would you put 2005 comercial strobes visible in a ride perfectly themed to the old west? Same goes for the nice 12" and horn speaker sitting behind that barrel. They need to get the entire thing back to its original state as it added greatly to the finishing off and credibility of the ride. Why let such a fine attraction down in its final moment? Come on guys get it together. No one will know the difference simply doesn't cut it for me as an excuse. The entire ride is ready for a major refurb so this would be the perfect time.

Yes Joz I believe you a right. I was merely defending my opinion and trying to clarify some information. This will be the last off topic post from myself in this thread regardless... However while on that topic shouldn't you be out abusing your liver and checking up on certain 'things' for me?
-
Yes I totaly agree with you its hard to come by the info... Therefore if you can't then why have the website? It's find if you want to have a site for your own little play thing but then don't go touting it as the most amazing thing every to grace the internet... Seriously, crappy website that attempt to bring good ones down serve no purpose. Oh and thats great but I don't need your shame thanks.
