  1. Seriously? The lift was powered from water? I'm not sure if it was hydraulic or pneumatic, big the lift cylinders were not powered by the water from the down shoot. And numerous submersible pumps pushed the boats along throigh the dark ride. The lift was definitely not the reason the use was closed.
  2. Disagree. I think to most as I said before Carnivale evokes ideas of the idealistic celebration. Free from the negatives. Now call it Mardi Gras and I immediately go to Bourbon street and 'beads for boobs' or the Sydney GLTBC festivities, either of which will have significant groups of people who will Shy away.
  3. Given all this event currently is, is some chat on an Internet forum who says it's branded porely?
  4. I don't think you can say they closed gremlins and replaced it with a lesser dark attraction though. I hear there are new lasers in Scooby. Anyone seen them?
  5. I agree with AlexB **cue mass histeria When I think of Carnivale at movie world I see a stereotyped glamorous idealistic version of the rio event fun for whole family. Not so much the tits and ass drunken reality of what might actually take place there Sounds to me if executed properly could be awesome.
  6. Seems like a pretty fair response, no BS and not PR spin.
  7. Funny that you say we're not Disney, but even all the major Disney rides are usually watered down from their initial grand plans.
  8. I do give them a lot of credit here for the amount of money being spent on and old flat ride, rather than scrap it and replace it with a lame top spin or something. I still think Wipeout is one of the best rides around and glad that they have chosen to prolong it's life!
  9. ... Guess there's more than one variant of the "reliable info" then.
  10. I really don't understand why parks install effects on rides without proper thought into the long term implications of maintaining them. Smoke is always a bit one for that.
  11. Holiday world is probably selling theirs cheap and a think another temperamental Intamin ride with constant downtime would be great for the park : p
  12. Not not a you Alex. A reflection of society really
  13. Yes which kinda reinforces my point that you can just have everything in a backpack and then chuck it in a locker when you ride. This is why I feel a park wide locker system with a wrist band would work well. And you're right Gazza, the system needs to be tourist friendly. So yeah let them have all their stuff. But you don't need your damn phone in a que (although that will affect your ability to take photos of yourself in said que and post them on insti).
  14. I find the need for possessions kinda weird. If I'm in a Gold Coast park chances im working or needed for work so will have my phone etc on me. But when overseas as a tourist I carry a backpack with my wallet, phone , etc. Now because those parks don't have loose article policies I carry that bag with me. But if not I could easily just leave it in a locker. I'm too busy enjoying myself at the park to be worried about having my phone etc constantly. Then again I'm of an older generation where I would sooner see what I'm doing it than experience it through a camera lens, so maybe that's where the difference lies.
  15. No one is suggesting otherwise (what is that office smart ass crap, sometime your fingers would be better left in your pocket and your mouth shut alex), what is being suggested is how about just putting everything in a locker when you enter the park and leaving it there until you need say money to buy something? Alternatively, use a wrist band system if you want multiple entry at multiple locations, hell you could even allow the wrist bands to be charged with money so that you don't even need your wallet to buy things.
  16. OMG it's all way over complicated. The best solution would be wrist band barcodes that work at all lockers around the park but only one at a time. The technology exists and is easy for all then. Why add all this bullshit with aps and tickets and crap, just stupid. Perhaps try spending a day at a park WITHOUT your damn phone.
  17. Clearly you can because they did
  18. I think it is a flagship ride. I would put it as the parks 2nd or 3rd best ride behind Giant Drop and ToT. It's unique and sooo much better than any topspin.
  19. If they're gonna close it. Why would it be covered in scaff for repairs?
  20. Actually I agree. You can't compare the two. They are completely different in style and purpose.
  21. Actually I don't agree at all. The media love to use 'breakdown' to imply an attraction has problems and 'keeps breaking.' Actually safety systems is exactly that. They see there is a potential for a hazard and stop it. A car is going too fast could cause an accident so I'm going to stop the ride before there is any chance of something happening. Sounds better than the ride is breaking.
  22. Wow if the news reported on every ride breakdown (or usually more correctly defined, safety systems engaging) there would be no room for anything else in the papers. Clearly they'd already filled their quota of made up stories about the Malaysian Airlines flight and still had pages to fill
