  1. Really? This sounds positive. When you refer to the Giant Drop being repainted you're not referring to the tower itself are you? Because in my opinion the tower has been in desperate need of repainting for years now. The original black paint is virtually all gone so you can see the grey concrete underneath and the faded tower of terror lettering. Very poor looking in my opinion. Not an easy job to paint it though I guess
  2. I'm sure that can't be right Alex because Billabong Beach and the Rapid River are still newish attractions. They were only built a couple of years ago. I agree with Gazza - no need to duplicate these already high capacity rides
  3. That was a really poor segment. Although I'm always glad to see features on theme parks I have to say this one was below standard. Way too short and just plain weird with the random songs and that singing boy. And the presenter really annoyed me. Oh and those kids were terrible! Why can't they find kids with at least a fragment of personality? Rather than trying to be clever with it all (and failing) Getaway should have just presented the rides in detail and it would have been very effective. The Taipan looked good although the final splashdown when the tubes come out at the bottom seems a bit anticlimactic. Doesn't look great on camera when the tubes just dribble out into the splashpool. I think ProSlide need to work on their endings
  4. Should be good. They are focusing on the new Taipan mammoth slides which I know a lot of us are interested in seeing
  5. That's great news if they have already started work on the WWW expansion. Although I'd be surprised as I don't think the DA has been approved yet. They also aren't planning to open it till late 2008
  6. I initially thought the only obvious room for expansion for WhiteWater World was the old thunderbolt site. My understanding is that once this new expansion is complete, all of this area will have been used up. Are you guys saying there is additional land behind this? I know there are some maintenance sheds there but that's about all I know
  7. Hmm this has really evoked some strong feelings from a lot of people. It's interesting to hear so much negativity and from some people who are normally really positive. Macquarie Leisure obviously doesn't see these issues or else they are turning a blind eye to them. These issues certainly haven't started affecting the park yet from a financial standpoint and attendance has only dropped very slightly. In regards to the comment about the Green Room... has it really started to deteriorate already? In what way? That would be a real shame as it's only a year old. I would hate to see it in 10 years. I would assume this would be the case for Tornados everywhere and not just the Green Room. I would disagree that WhiteWater World makes Dreamworld look ugly. I think it adds excitement and creates an interesting skyline. Something Dreamworld needs seeing as though they haven't and aren't likely to add any huge coasters anytime soon
  8. Hey stop bringing me down off my high Well I wasn't saying it is going to be the best waterpark in the world but I certainly think it will be up there among some of the best. Once this expansion is completed we will have a park which virtually has one of every item in ProSlide's ride inventory (and certainly all of the best ones). As a big ProSlide fan myself, that makes for a very appealing waterpark. Oh and I forgot to mention before I am just so pleased they have come to their senses and are adding a lazy river... and by the looks of it quite a decent one too
  9. Then I guess that exact sentiment answers the question of why Macquarie Leisure want to go ahead with such a large expansion in one hit. Before the park develops a reputation for being small. Because once that happens they will have trouble shifting it, just as Movie World has. Although contrary to my initial understanding, it looks like the entire expansion may not all open up at once. I read a statement in one of the development application papers which mentions that while they would like to open the expansion in late 2008 and initially most of the rides will open, some rides may open in subsequent years for 'marketing purposes'
  10. Oh why oh why didn't they go with Vekoma? (Never thought I'd hear myself say that). That particular layout is pretty much the same as Velocity at Flamingoland and it has been proven to be very effective and lots of fun. This makes me feel like crying. The layout also looks like it would have used the space next to the lake so much better. It would have had that awesome long launch with lots of fun airtime bunny hills on the return stretch. Give me a better layout over 'life size' replica bikes any day
  11. This is absolutely huge. If this goes ahead (and I'm hoping it does without Macq Leisure taking bits out of it to save money) then we will end up with one of the best water parks in the world in my opinion. Love the idea of the mammoths and it will also be great to experience a tornado alley slide. Best of all is the fact that all of these attractions including the lazy river will have longer ride times compared to WWW's existing attractions. This is much needed and very exciting. I just have a few questions though. Is Macquarie Leisure likely to be very happy about the release of this information and will this have any impact on the development? I know it is available to the public but it just seems strange as we've never seen this much detail for a new attraction before so far away from the opening date. I'm also wondering why they are choosing to open the new area all at once rather than stagger the introduction of each new attraction from year to year
  12. I went to Magic Mountain in late June of this year which was right at the start of the US summer. We got there in the afternoon and stayed till late. It was awesome - practically no lines for anything. Best time to go because it had been a really hot day but when we got there it was starting to cool off and was a nice balmy night. I gotta tell you I highly recommend it in the arvos/evening as you seem to avoid any queues whatsoever. You'd be waiting for longer at Dreamworld. And to my surprise the park was open till around 11pm I think. I'm sorry to tell you though X was my favourite ride by far. You get the most incredible sensation on that coaster. In my opinion it was more fun than their newest coaster Tatsu
  13. That's classic! Thank you Gazza that has got to be one of the funniest things I have read on here in the last few years
  14. What happened to the Stingray? I have heard a few people mention this. The ride has been at the park for years and used to be themed as 'The Roulette' or something like that before Country Fair became Ocean Parade
  15. Aaargh how annoying I accidentally voted yes when I meant to vote no because the pole is badly worded. The topic asks if we think the Motocoaster is Dreamworld's biggest mistake so therefore you would answer 'yes'. But when I read the pole question it asks if Dreamworld has done well with the Motocoaster in which case I would say 'no'. Can you change a vote once you've posted it?
  16. And how was your day at Luna Park? Disappointing as usual? Was it very busy?
  17. Oh my god I love it Gazza. That truly has to be one of the worst rides ever created. Thanks for sharing it. Just a horrible, horrible concept. A bell?!?! I can't get over it. The other particularly dodgy ride I remember seeing is that 'snail coaster' pic you posted recently Gazza (as a comparison for the Motocoaster). Shameful
  18. I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet but WhiteWater World are holding a night time event in December describing it as the ultimate moonlight beach party. The park will be open from 6:30pm-10pm with most rides open and DJs, entertainment etc. I reckon it's a very cool idea and hope it catches on. They have made up a funky logo for it too featuring the surf god 'Huey'. All the details are on the website at http://www.whitewaterworld.com.au So, who plans to attend?
  19. The park has for too long now avoided adding an attraction that will seriously put them back on the map. I am talking something along the lines of Tower of Terror and Giant Drop. I don't really mind exactly what it is but it needs to be huge and it needs to change the skyline. Oh and please nothing sports related this time. The park has got to stop holding onto faded glory from 1997 and reinvest the big bucks instead of constantly trying to get away with minimal investment
  20. Just as a quick response to the above question - The steel Big Dipper was installed in 1995 as part of the reopening back then. At this time the park was jointly owned by the State Government and Whittingslow Amusements. As the Luna Park Reserve Trust was heavily involved with the redevelopment, the emphasis was on running the place as a true fun park again. This is the reason they installed a large number of rides along with the new steel Big Dipper, in an attempt to bring the park back to the way it once was. Unfortunately this incarnation of the park did not survive due to low attendance figures partially brought about by the closure of the Big Dipper. Since 2004 when the park again reopened it has been owned by a developer - Multiplex. This is why they are not really interested in running a fun park. And yet with less rides than ever the park has been receiving much better attendance figures than it did when it reopened in 1995. This really frustrates me but I put it down mostly to the fact that Wonderland is no more
  21. It'll never happen. Luna Park Sydney great? Are you serious? The artist Peter Kingston (or was it Martin Sharp?)summed it up perfectly in a recent article when he made a comment along the lines of "I feel sorry for the kids that run down the hill excited about going to the place... you can't call that place Luna Park anymore... it is a concrete jungle". The current owners are interested in stripping the park of its assets and gradually selling off parts of the land for massive amounts of money. Oh and function centres
  22. That's classic... how funny. Sorry to laugh at your pain but thanks for the detailed review. I just hope Dreamworld management are getting some of this negative feedback sent their way. I wonder if the CEO and Directors are pleased with this ride or if they realise its many faults. I think it's important for people to send in feedback, even if only via a quick email
  23. I completely agree! I am so sick of all the new rides in our parks ending before they have begun. In particular I am thinking about Motocoaster and the slides at WhiteWater World
  24. The Sanderson Group does a vast amount of the theming work in Australia, well at least they used to. They were the company Dreamworld used before Atomiq. They also did a large amount of the theming at Sega World in Sydney. Their website is at http://www.sandersongroup.com.au/
  25. But that's where you're wrong Churros. Did you look at the Vekoma motorcycle coaster in the video link I posted? If not here it is again - Then read the comments underneath it and you can see it has received overwhelmingly positive reviews. Dreamworld's Motocoaster on the other hand misses the mark well and truly judging by the reviews so far
