  1. Of course when arguing about what sort of roller coasters should go into DW, we have to think that this community is a small demographic of Gold Coast themepark visitors. Most people here are very "RollerCoaster Literate" in the sense that they've ridden heaps of rollercoasters or pick out lacks in theming that most visitors to DW or any themepark in that matter wouldn't care about. Basically to most "normal" guests, any type of rollercoaster, would be good enough.
  2. I agree, whats so good about Wooden Roller Coasters anyway? Thy are ugly, noisy and not that exciting. If they wanted something like that, they wouldv'e kept or relocated the Thunderbolt.
  3. May I say, the new attractions look fantatic from the motorway, and I hope to ride them in the upcoming weeks. All this complaing about lack of theming, thrills, etc. is not needed. These so called stock standard rides are what Wet'n'Wild are missing, you need the full experience. Theming doesn't increase the ride experience too much when your going down a tube that you can't see out of. I guess everyone was expecting slides like rollercoasters at WnW. Waterslides will never be as thrilling as rides such as the TOT, GD, Claw, etc. at Dreamworld and LW and SE at MovieWorld. But seriously, you pay a very good price to enter and you get what you paid for, waterslides and a free movie (on Saturdays). What else do the people want?
  4. I can't see much happening on the land Big Brother is on, coasterwise, simply because it is likely Dreamworld/Maquarie Leisure will use the land for CityWalk, a resort as well as some of the land being used as a residential area (according to Gold Coast City Council plans). Although this leaves lower expansion area, there is still the island, blue lagoon (maybe) and some on the other side of Oakey Creek, but towards the west. And theres always the carpark that they can relocate. Also they currently seem to be trying to be keeping the other parks in check - WnW announces they want a massive expansion, Dreamworld answers with a waterpark. But what does this mean is next? It seems that a rollercoaster is on the cards, but what type? As long as it is not wooden, I'll be all good with it.
  5. I've only been on Scooby Doo at night so I don't really know what its like at day time, but it was pretty good. Also do water rides need to be closed for the night? Everytime Dreamworld is open at night (ride opening, special events, Screamworld etc.) the water rides (log ride and river rapids) are closed. What would this mean for Wild West Falls?
  6. Well just think...... Terror Canyon 2 at Wet'n'Wild still claims to be new on both the website and signs in the park... its older that BA2...
  7. With skyscrapers such as Q1 on the Gold Coast, the crane is placed ontop of the construction and it gradualy moves up as construction moves ahead. Since Q1 got too high for the crane to come down eaisilly, it has been taken off the tower, which now gives the builders a very slow process to build the top levels
  8. Go to http://www.proslide.com/whatsnew/Award-Win...een-8.5x11).pdf for pdf and http://www.proslide.com/whatsnew/ProSlideTornado.rmvb for the video on tornado slides.
  9. Whats stupid is that they have the opening of Wiggles World at daytime (school day) which means i wouldn't be able to go.
  10. Although I havent been to Dreamworld for screamworld, I have been for special events (Tomb Raider Opening, Claw Opening, etc) and the lines were non-existent (2 minutes wait for the TOT). Anyway its just that i see $30 just to go for a few hours a night is not worth is especially because the experience was not that different. What Dreamworld should do is do what Wet'n'Wild does. Keep it open late on Saturday nights (and maybe Friday/Sunday night), show a movie in the Imax theatre have a full day pass ($70) or a night pass ($20) and just cut out the entertainment.
  11. I just thought I might open discussion on Attractions in Surfers Paradise, on the Gold Coast. What does everyone think of Infinity, Snow World, Ripleys believe it or not, Bungee Bullet and Timezone? Its amazing at how much there is in Surfers Paradise, this just gives more than just the beach to visit.
  12. The is an intensity at Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast, but its more like timezone. And if you want a good timezone, its at Centro Surfers Paradise, right on Cavil Mall. It has everything. Lazer skirmish, mini golf, bowling. Its huge!
  13. Im surprised at how much they fit onto the draculars site. Unless they are building underground, or having it connect onto Pacific Fair, it probably would only be one storey high...
  14. There are some major reasons why they wouldn't put a rollercoaster into the old thunderbolt site. For example: Noise Pollution Noise is a major factor involved. If noone lived nearby, the Thunderbolt would still exist. The TB could be heard 3km away, it was so noisy. Thats why they had to make the claw so guiet Money If they build a rollercoaster at the TB site, it would mean themeing, etc for a large open space, ontop of the price of the rollercoaster, unlike at the blue lagoon site, where they could build a rollercoaster into the existing mountain and give it a volcano theming, after all, it is meant to be based on Krakatoa. Competition Dreamworld needs something to compete with Wet'n'Wild. And if WnW is already constructed, DW can learn of their mistakes Intergration With a resort planned, its alot easier for people to just go to the closest waterpark. And sure some people at the resort will still go to WnW. So what, at least some of their customers are being stolen. It will also intergrate with Ocean Parade which stops them having to think of scenery. Making the most of other rides With a rollercoaster, etc. at the Blue Lagoon site, this could attract people past Gold Rush Country and Rocky Hollow, which encourages people to ride rides in a sometimes ignored part of the park. Well there you go, just some reasons why a waterpark would be probably the best possible solution.
  15. I personally like the architectual style of Robina Town Centre, with different themed zones
  16. I would never eat there Dreamworld food is a rip off just because you have no other option to eat. If Maccas etc. were in CityWalk, competition will send down Dreamworld's food prices
  17. Coomera is on the left and Upper Coomera is on the right. There is one problem with having major fast food chains in the shopping centre. Dreamworld earns a profit on food sales and if there are fast food outlets just outside, many people will get a pass out and eat there.
  18. See the related topic for more details.
  19. Paintball is done, its down near MovieWorld Wooden rollercoasters are stupid Dreamworld has plenty of land and if they build this shopping centre, they get more profit = more and better rides. Eventually the old rides will be replaced by new ones, rollercoasters will be built over the shopping centre, there will be a monorail to the train station and the island in the middle of the Murrusippi River will become a massive themed area. And thats without using the excess land shown on my original map.
  20. Within a 10km drive of my home there are 2 shops. A Bi-Lo and an IGA. And its 20 km to the Westfield from where i live and 20km to Beenleigh
  21. I live here. I know the problems. Coomera needs a major shopping centre. Westfeild is too far away, especially to residents of Ormeau and Pimpama and it wont have a cinema or other such facilities. The real question is what shops would it have? There is already a Coles under construction at Upper Coomera, near Saint Stephens College and Upper Coomera State College and at Westfeild; a Bi-Lo at Upper Coomera; Woolworths at Oxenford and Westfeild... So most companies have already set up in the area (see attached map) But if you look at the map there are heaps of shopping centres from Coomera to Pacific Pines, but on the other hand there are 2 between Coomera and Beenleigh. So it is needed up north, but why didn't they build it up there? The train station and the other infrastructure it was in a prime position. Thats why they are building it there.
  22. Yeah but the waterpark will have seperate admission to Dreamworld and it'll need more parking for the council to approve it
  23. Dreamworld is owned by Macquarie Leisure Group which is a part of the Macquarie Bank, which is Australian, not from Singapore and is listed on the ASX. On Wiggles World, I most likely will be attending the opening and am not looking forward to it. Last year whan they opened the Claw, they claimed they didnt have enough adult ride... So what do they do... build another themed kids area. Whats really interesting though is the two kids areas are practically advertising corporate icons. Suck 'em in while they're young...
  24. Being someone who lives within 10km of Dreamworld and having links to the management, as well as regually reading the Gold Coast Bulliten where the article on this was first placed, I have answers to a lot of questions. Dreamworld owns the land from Beattie Road, up to Foxwell Road. at the moment they have only developed one half of their land. I have a map attached showing the land of Dreamworld and where I believe CityWalk at Coomera will be. The part of CityWalk not owned by Macquarie Leisure Group is owned by Coomera Town Centre Managment and will be bought by Dreamworld. This still allows space for BigBrother as well as more rides. With the parking, this will not be counted towards the total parking area as CityWalk @ Coomera is not ment to be another entry to Dreamworld, but creating a link between the railway station and the local community to Dreamworld. The parking most likely will be underground. Dreamworld will most likely also build a resort on their excess land or intergrated into the shopping centre. If Dreamworld wins the bid against CTCM then this will be the shopping centre similar to Robina Town Centre and will be the centre of the community. Finally it was said in the Gold Coast Buliten that this shopping centre will be built by 2008. I hope that helps a bit
