  1. So for those who have ridden, what are your thoughts? I'd definitely sum up my experience of the new Terror of Terror 2 like this - ride experience is really great while everything else seems slack. The ride now features a countdown sequence before you launch, the new squillions of LED fixtures they've added get cut as you stare down the e-stop segment of the tunnel where a large jet fan gets illuminated as if you're about to get blown out of the station, literally. Big countdown voice etc. etc. the launch program has been redesigned so it's a lot less jerk-kneck speed in two points and alot more continuous throughout the launch. They've put rings of red LEDS inside the tunnel that, while right now, seem to all do random different things (some spin, some are static etc.) would be put to better use if they were all designed to a program (Space Mountain's lights come to mind). It is a shame though that they really haven't done anything about the ride maintaining its launch height. First it was getting some great height, then it wasn't, now it really isn't ... what's going on? Where the ride really gets let go is the queue line. But I was a huge optimist. I was expecting them to dig through the ride's old systems and plug in the strobes, dust off the misters and turn up the old soundtrack and get rid of the garbage in the town you walk over, redo the plexiglass, queue people up in the original spots the gates were and maybe even use the lifts again. Instead what I saw was this old attitude of "if it's broke, stick some panels and some paint over it". The old city is gone, stuff is painted and the most they've added to the queue is a hundred bucks worth of PVC pipe, pictures of jets and an optical illusion, red vinyl floors and weird bits of replica jet engines as you leave!? I still don't understand how Dreamworld under-estimates what attention to detail does to a "theme park". Movie World up the road spends the same amount of money on themeing to their entrance for a temporary "probably only going to be used once Facade" for Fright Nights as Dreamworld does applying stickers, paint and piping in their queue line for a permanent attraction. And then we see already the kiddies peeling and destroying the queue line, in short half of its a holiday period bandaid. We'll probably go the way of The Giant Drop in the sense that when it's promised to be fixed, instead we'll see the queue line guttered and replaced with nice big black walls to look at. All in all, fantastic ride experience, really unique sensation being up that high looking down, but as for everything else.. And in another Dreamworld "take two steps forward, one step back" move, they've opened up the old merchandise door that leads to Nick Central and cut away the path to get in. Awesome idea! The bad news? Everytime you walk through you're reminded that the fountains in Nick Central don't work, Spongebob's now gone and the Spooty Spin's waterfall (and, by large, the entire mountain) doesn't work and looks old and faded.
  2. I think we all see enough of this in any industry and I'd just put it down to average management. It follows the same old story of trying to streamline and simplify a product or an experience to cut costs and in the process the business loses charm and the whole package that made it what it was. I'm curious to hear what the owner thinks. My personal opinion is that if you expect to have long term attendance you don't make short term decisions like cutting thin on maintenance and turning your guest's experience into what feels like a two-bit operation, which is what is how it feels in its present stage. Would've loved to see this in action for shits and giggles. Would've paid more if the ride's soundtrack ripped off "It's a small world" or any Disney attraction during the ride.
  3. It's funny how one theme park splashes out and makes some touches like this that look just amazing for guests and another park rejuvenates one of their attractions and adds red vinyl to the floor.
  4. Quoted for truth. Pics or it didn't happen.
  5. Enlightening conversation. Did anyone else notice that the TVC is now on YouTube?
  6. This thread reminds me of this: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewt...tart=30#p916738 A good time to point out too that neither of us are ride designers or engineers by trade and there's alot of ifs and buts coming into play. What if the new carriage structure of the pod was lighter but had a weight limit to how the support columns underneath the seating was laid out? I think it's fair to say that until the day comes Dreamworld or Intamin decide to shower us with some bare-bones 3D models of the update, let's just enjoy the fact that at the end of the day we're going to love this new re-make of a classic ride.
  7. Bob (that's Bob Tan for those of you playing at home) is one of the park's longest serving crew members, an incredibly friendly pool of knowledge and was actually promoted from chief engineer to the title he has now a few years back. I think it's safe to say if you were to count on a park-side opinion, he'd be it short of asking Intamin all the way in Switzerland. You are correct but the way the ride operates is different to how you might think. Think of the computers that operate the ride which try and use a set amount of pre-determined power to propel the ride (at max 2.1MW to be exact) rather then the computers working at whatever cost to get it to a certain speed (about 160k/ph). If it's a lighter load that's being moved, then that pre-determined amount of power can move a lighter load much more efficiently. The heavier it is, the more work required and the more that pre-determined amount of power gets used up more quickly. There's also another thing that's been overlooked, and that's the fact that the ride is now using 2.1MW instead of 2.2MW. I've got no idea why both the Tower of Terror and Superman: The Escape in California both haven't been reaching the top in the past few years, be it wear and tear on the ride causing more e-stops, too much power consumption or whatever, clearly they're not interested in running the Tower of Terror at full power and so, rather, they've chosen instead traded to off-put the power needed to reach near full speed with a lighter carriage.
  8. Exactly what I thought. I wasn't referring to the sky but rather when the white is over-exposed and it glows like it is in that photo, it would be safe to say that unless you "purposefully" did it like that it's definitely over-exposed
  9. Haha, what a way to steal my information kids. Bear in mind that alot of new attractions are always planned in a year's advance and most likely more in larger attractions. Think about design, council approvals, construction, it's all a long process. As knowledge serves me WnW were looking for a series of new attractions when council submissions from MLO surfaced. Basically, as luck would have it, this quiet little park in Brazil was going belly up so the park opted to take the Mach 5 Zone slides in conjunction with its Black Hole Tower purchase to compete with Dreamworld's new waterpark. Bear in mind though that the funnel/bowl/whatever it's called ride is in fact brand new and won't be in until late this year. Also, cheers goes to Matt who's probably reading this for providing us with the little Brazil tip-off.
  10. That Superman: Escape photo above is awfully over-exposed. Just my thoughts.
  11. Are talking about Walibi World's Goliath or SFMM's Goliath? In either case you'd be hard pressed to get a rough ride out of the two Goliaths, SFMM's is notoriously known for being too smooth and floaty whereas Walibi World's is essentially like a hybrid of Millenium Force and Exp. Geforce. Smoother that SFMM's even.
  12. The "totalthrills.com" part should be a very good indication that a two year old thread wasn't meant to be brought back up again.
  13. "Fantasmic" to hear you had a good time. Will we be expecting a photo trip report soon?
  14. It's funny, because Dreamworld host ads on Goodle's Adwords Network too but I don't hear any complaints.
  15. I think this whole thread is rather ludicrous, especially when one of the attractions is targetted at our demographic whereas the other (the waterpark) is being targetted mainly towards families, then yet, you still expect a fair outcome of answers? It's like having a telemarketer call up a 3 year old and go "would you like to purchase some insurance for your car?" and then call up a 33 year old and go "would you like a lollipop?" If you went and asked the demographic being targetted for the waterpark, i'm sure they'd give a flip response to what's being shown above.
  16. To sum up these two, basically there are three departments for making a coaster (excluding the park itself). Firstly, you have several companies who design the thrill ride the park has specificed. At that stage, dependent on which designer it is, the company will then take the designs to a steel fab., and the parts are constructed. From there, the parts are transported to the park and then typically an outside contracter (builder in otherwords) will come in with a team and build the ride. Lastly, the contracter, designer or park will do the finishing touches, although most of the time (with the exception of Huss Rides) the contracter will do the themeing. So there you go, you're all set!
  17. I googled it and it's basically one of those artifical wave machines where you can surf on a good 5 foot wave. Looks like fun. http://www.flowrider.com/
  18. Actually, I genuinely was going to grab a calendar this year as I don't have one in my room for work project schedules, but hell, don't take a joke richo and remember to convert the "least" amount of customers as possible huh.
  19. It's been nearly two weeks and my post still hasn't been answered. Maybe if you're charging people for things it should be clearly laid out what is and what's not being given to those suscribers? I'd also like to point out that I remember seeing something about "only" having an avatar on r-c by being a suscriber then yet I managed to grab an avatar. What gives with that? I feel guilty and then yet so special.
  20. They should have a specialty entrance that says "adults with children 130cm or under" that leads straight to the exit. Now that'd solve alot of problems.
  21. Ahhh, so that's why they call it a "water" park!
  22. Simmo, lol if I didn't know you I'd swear I would mistake you for a n00b.
  23. Yeah, i'm sure he's one of the many people who like to spend forty dollars to get in and then sun bake all day. From what I've seen lately the Black Hole is still behind on construction, however, chances are they should be able to open that up with the Mach5 Zone in time for Seven's Sunrise.
  24. Yeah you n00b, it was intended a cinical joke to the first post. Pull your finger out.
