From what I've seen over the last several years is that complete and thorough ride inspections is generally the norm for Wipeout during annual maintenance now. Like what you saw, this would include tieing down each arm using high strength steel cables and taking apart the carriage and whatnot. Personally I don't mind the vibrations and whatnot on the ride as it definitely gives the ride a character and a bit of wildness which definitely freaks out some guests, however what I've always thought was weird was how much noise the drop floors make. Even the Ride Trade Gyro Swing over in Lotte World doesn't make as much noise as Dreamworld's does.

Breaking News: Dreamworld to build world class water park
Slick replied to Richard's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I'd definitely say it'd be a continuously open park with its own heating systems for the "slightly" colder winter months. If Wet 'n' Wild can, why can't Dreamworld? -
The dodgem sized has never changed, nor have any of the cars been sold or thrown away, unless they were stuffed of course, but might've been one or two, not 15. Capacity on that ride is bad enough without making it smaller dude. Also, while Wipeout won't be replaced for quite some time, in fact, a long, long time, I've noticed some very suss noises coming out of the axles on both arms of the Wipeout, but uhh... here's hoping that it's just Wipeout being graceful in its old age. On a last note, I don't think you can have one side on the claw i.e. "the west wing" that is constantly "wobbly" when the ride spins. However, at some points of the ride such as the first braked swing and the first and second push there is some additional force placed on the engine, resulting in a fairly natural vibration if that's what you're referring to. And yes, when this happens, it's loud.

Ok, that's it. I'm putting my big foot in the door. Adam is dead on correct with Movie World being a much more family orientated park, and of course ROG all the people in the Lethal Weapon queue line are going to think they should put in another thrill ride, because that market of people that ride Lethal Weapon would naturally want more thrills. Maybe if you made some conversation to some families in the children's area of the park (as suss as it sounds) you'd find they'd say a totally opposite thing, so I don't think you can use that as a legitimate reason to build another thrill ride. And then you're going from arguing your point to contradicting yourself... What's up with that? Building a basically thrill-only based park has been done and has been widely successful, check out parks like Cedar Point and Six Flags MM for example, their thrill ride market is indefinitely larger than their assortment of family attractions, and they still make larger amounts of money than alot of our theme parks combined (even if they are the size of several of our parks combined. ) And that Sea World idea. Can I label that "n00b" already? How on earth are you expecting to get a strip of land that runs from wnw and mw to sw? As inventive as it was, I think I can safely say it'll never happen. lol. Oh, one final thing that's been bugging me, you quoted Kingda Ka costing 25 million, thing is, in that number would be more 32 million Australian, a little bit more out of reach than it may seem.

Very nice photos dude, good to see that Nikon's being put to good use.
-
Yep, slack. As for me, I definitely wouldn't mind a water blaster... or whatever you call them (the waterslides that have uphill booster slopes etc.) One of those circulating the park with a nice big splashdown at the end would surely make my day.

Lol. I never implied "I knew everything" I just said from what I've seen, read and heard it looks to be something very promising. And the argument of "there was this like post in like the other like thread" thing isn't working either. You kids at r-c need to take it easy aye. Anyway, my point is I think initially it won't draw an extensively new crowd out to the park, but like what Joz said take alot of people away from other parks or better yet draw the crowds out evenly. More so, as a long term investment, this is a superb idea considering there will be a resort and monorail system (from what i've read atleast, right joz ) that will link patrons seemlessly from one park to another. One big happy place would be a good way to coin it, especially when families can stay, shop, dine and play all in the one place. Kind of like something Disneyland would do, don't ya' think.

When the media release was posted. To be honest, alot of people had already known about this for years before it was put into action, but by that stage these are all ideas or suggestions. Take B&M for example, they're coaters can take up to 4 years to go from planning into fruition.

This is incredibly hypocritical for people to even suggest they have negative feelings for this new water park, especially when their reasons are based of how much income a "feat" of this nature will raise. Seriously, I hear alot of poeple going "it doesn't matter if an attraction doesn't make alot of money, provided it's awesome" whereas now I hear you guys going "there's this quite large park being built, it's going to have tonnes of themeing but it's not going to be a good idea because it won't make enough money." Can we give up on this yet? Because of fact of the matter is most of you don't even know what it's going to be like. How in holy hell are you going to place a biost judgement if you haven't even seen it or know why specifically it's going in? Heck, half of you don't even know where it's going yet, so we can give that a rest I suppose. And for those who think it's a good idea, let's look at it this way. Wet 'n' Wild currently has a large stronghold on the "water" market, and considering how many people, including myself want to cool off instead of go to a theme park during a heat wave, why should a park like Wet 'n' Wild take a 90 percent stronghold on a virtually stale market? With a secondary park introduced, we're making more competition, and most of all, it adds into Dreamworld's large scale idea to make a haven style "area" where people can sleep, play and enjoy the suburb in a way that Disney would be proud of. Yeah, from what I've heard and seen it will be that good. So, let's recap, new park, more options, more competition for new attractions and we still have something like 40 hectares if not a hell of a lot more for future thrill rides. What are you guys so worked up about?

Eh. Incase alot of people haven't noticed, the new Dreamworld advertisements on televisions started again as of this week, and it's basically a hybrid version of their previous "so many worlds" commercial except with alot more special effects. While the promotional footage they use is mainly all good, the new 3d globe is extremely lacking and tacky compared to the previous, more stylish one.

Correct, that's why I said "in a way." And plus, the Tower of Terror doesn't just have one PLC, it has hundreds. I really can't give much information away on how the operation side of things goes, however there is a form of manual resetting so when a pod stops at some point and the magnets are still able to function, it can be returned to the station without the need of engineering having to start up the winch and whatnot. Plus this happens at slow speeds, of course if you were resetting a ride you wouldn't want it flinging back at you at more than 100k/ph would you? Oh and Shano, I know this stuff from experience and first hand knowledge, but as for Adam here.....

Planning on melbourne to DW WBMW trip over xmas
Slick replied to Flip The Man's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I've found that for most people it's easiest just to catch the plane into Brisbane Domestic, and then catch the air train (Robina express, also known as "the gold coast train") to coomera for about 5-10 bucks depending if you're a student or whatever. If you're looking for cheap, easy, and close to theme parks (but that's it) acommodation then the Coomera-in is your best bet. It's easiest just go catch a Maxi Taxi or the shuttle bus from the station (about four bucks) to the motel. It's about 600 metres from the Dreamworld main entrance, and from memory will set you pack around 50-90 a night. From there you can easily catch the train up to helensvale station, which is less than five or so minutes and costs about 2 bucks a train fair, and if you're purely there for WNW, MW and DW, you've got the most cheapest trip available at the moment. Oh, and it's bloody simple. Seriously, if you wanting to do ONLY theme parks, and i'll say this again, only theme parks, then this is one of the best ways to do things. Stay local, travel local and you'll be set. -
They had a glimspe of SE in the background, however like most broadcast cameras they had the focus on the presenter and thus the rear of the scene was pretty much blurred out.

If you have a look closely at that page, on the top left hand corner is one of Rabid's photos.
-
Ahh righto, sorry there Joz buddy. So, should I just swear then instead of making it clean like everyone else here does or should I get the royal treatment and you can walk around behind me with an edit button? (That's figuritively speaking of course.)
-
LMAO. Seriously, your complainging over the fact that you didn't get a really, really simple joke. Now that's funny.
-
I saw the advertisement too, however it was just footage of Superman: "whatever the second part of the name is" over in America. You know, that big hyper...
-
I wouldn't be putting my finger on any of the end themeing just yet. I remember when I gawked at the original Claw colours out at Dreamworld, but then when the paint when on it looked fantastic.

Tower of Terror. And Spotty, what's with the whole "ACME" Wipeout thing?!
-
90 percent of all e-brakes that cause the pod to stall outside of the station are usually are usually to a guest playing up. If that happens the pod once the e-brake has officially been stopped, the magnets are then used to, in a way "manually" return the pod to the station where the certain guest is dealt with accordingly. However, if there's a power failure or what not, the diesel winch is then started and it's basically rolled back into the station where it's docked until they can safely test the ride again before letting guests back on.

It's funny how when I make a post to stand up for myself here it gets deleted. I'm looking at it this way. Would you rather your questions be answered in a way where I people go "oh yeah, spose" or, alternatively would you like specific realistic answers? I'm definitely here to help anyone with a question out, and I answered the one above, however, if you want to ask it in a stupid way, or better yet, ask a stupid question, how else am I supposed to answer it? Jeese, I make a little bit o' funny on these forums, some kids who can't spell their own hobby right get upset and I'm to blame am I? Right. And yeah, Neb, they're fairly reliable, however they're extremely rough, much like the rest of the Vekoma population. It seems to be with SFMM's DeJa Vu however that it's just six flags that like to keep it closed. That and its a prototype.

"...Oh and btw an insult is a great way to welcome me to the site..." I thought so too, however I thought the crumpets and the merry morning wishes I prepared would've been a little bit too far, and besides, your post was in breach of two guidelines anyway, so I'm essentially in the clear, right Richo. Now, I'm not making enemies, however if we want to have, how should I say it... "daft" users saying "daft" things, well, its only in my best duty to make things right. Do you honestly think I'd sit back and go "oh yeah, it'll never happen... bugger typing though, I'm getting something to eat." Anyway, even then loops on something like Tower of Terror would be impracticle. The slope already used on the current design is designed to use the minimal amount of space required to get the pod from 0-90 degrees, and seeming the pod is very long, and doesn't have and independently moving parts, that's a hard thing to do. So i'd say you'd be looking at 70 metre loops, and then you'd either have to move the entire tower of launch section so you can have an entry ramp and and exit ramp on either side of the loop. Then there's g-force, safey (lap bars + Intamin is an obvious no when it comes to inversions, or rides for that matter) and after all that, a rather small upgrade. This has all been discussed before by the way. Below this post (provided its the latest post in this thread) is a small box with the words "enter keywords" inside it. Type a question in, and before you know it, instant answers.

Good idea. Yeah, the Tower of Terror, like most non-slave propelled rides will clunk out when there's no power, however, with premiums utterly sky rocketing these days, virtually every single ride will always have a fail safe. The Tower of Terror, as most people know has "rare" earth magnets (another adjective I've been asked to use) on the belly of the pod, which in a normal run interacts with the alloy boxes down the track and have huge electrical fluxes... yada, yada. However, when the power clonks out, surges, or we get a nasty little guest taking photos (cough some people in the industry in particular) the ride goes into a situation well renouned as an "e-brake." In this situation, there is a set of very large "rare" earth magnets behind the station that act as like a huge pile of quick sand, if you will. Basically, co-inciding with the same theory the Giant Drop uses, the magnets on the track counteract with those on the pod and "bog" the car in the rear of the station. Once when the car has fully stopped moving, the car is either pulled out of the brakes via a diesel winch at the very rear of the station, or if it's already rolled out of the station by this stage, the electromagnets are manually operated for it to return to the station. There's a little bit more to it than that, but that will give you the general gist of what happens.
-
Isn't that what the Tower of Terror does? I think you're also missing the point that Deja Vu has "two" towers. And if you have read my last post successfully (taking into account you spell enthoustiast well I'm sure that's a given) you will have noticed there's not a chance in nutsville it's going to happen.

Hey, atleast they're not touching novelty sized bananas. (All these male jokes... jeese..)
