  1. Well, Ideally I'd want it to be a wooden coaster which by their very nature are non looping, but thinking realistically I'm just expecting another steel coaster if past precedent is anything to go by. Didn't we just have a similar topic to this though? here http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/in...?showtopic=3603
  2. Yeah, I had to re-read it, but its a rhetorical question, I'll rephrase it. "I think DW has enough room, don't they own all that land behind them?
  3. Well, If its a steel I'm leaning toward a full exploration of their E-motion coaster idea, Europa Park is pretty much a testing ground for Mack rides so I think it could be that.
  4. I think I'd like to see some links so I can read into the whole thing myself.
  5. Sorry, when you said mega coaster I immediatley thought of an Intamin Mega Coaster, http://www.intaminworldwide.com/iag/index....5&Itemid=32
  6. The space is there all right, the whole WnW/AOS/PC/WBMW precinct is on a fair plot of land so If they wanted one badly enough there would be a way to do it, a couple of ideas could be one that does a lap around the lagoon at the front of the studios (station would be near where the bat ride exit is) or an out and back one behind the main part of the studios with the station being behind SDSC, Heck look at what Universal in Japan did with fitting in the Hollywood dream B&M hyper, though I cant say I'd like one roaring up and down main st like what that does. 7. Somebody has done a front row vid of the ride: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=He3VhK3bUGI It shows the starting lights, and you can hear the sound effect they play on launch. I think the 30 second mark is the precise moment when the ride dies.
  8. Because they are expensive basically. At the present time, there are basically only 2 parks in the game for a mega coaster, DW and MW. DW will never build one because they don't allow big enough budgets (TOT under the old owners of DW was $16 mil, and I'd consider that mega, but since then (and moreso since MLT took the helm) nothing has really been over $6mil (GD, Cyclone, Claw, Wiggles World etc) with the exception of MDMC (and that effort gives me little hope for the future) This leaves MW, they seem busy doing their own thing and don't seem focused on building "the biggest" or "the fastest". Superman did sort of prove they have their finger on the pulse in terms of producing thrilling rides, but it would really come down to if they wanted to build one. A mega coaster would easily be the most expensive ride ever built here, so It would be a few years off, and would require a pretty heated competitive war for it to happen. That my thoughts anyway.
  9. ^But there are other places in the park thrill rides could go, why not have both? It always makes me laugh when people say stuff like "The space should be used for XXXXXXXX", I mean if the park were using all its land and a ride had nowhere else to go then fair enough, but the park is nowhere near that point so there is no need to waste money demolishing buildings when they could just build it in an empty space. Where else can they put an arcade? I bet if they built the arcade somewhere else in the park you would be saying a thrill ride should go there too. I'd love to see them build another thrilling attraction, but both parks pretty much have the same attendance so I dont actually think there is a need for 6 versus 6 in terms of the number of thrill rides if you get what I mean.
  10. Hey 22 people! Cricket is now possible .
  11. ^Yeah true, the concept of condensing a local culture into a park flopped when they opened DCA, I hope they don't go down that path again (for their own sake). One thing I am worried about is ending up with a poorly executed 'magic kingdom' style park like Hong Kong Disneyland. It seems there they picked the worst of the Disney attractions (Space Mountain is the exception) and this trend looks to continue with Small World opening next. If they are going to do one, stick to the better rides. What I would have loved to have seen is DisneySea here, it is my favourite Disney park (aside from the original) I think a unique concept like that would have gone great on the GC.
  12. ^I dont think that is much of a concern really. I think most wooden coasters look good. Consider also the fact modern wooden coaster manufacturers are all of high quality, so there is little risk of it not being done correctly. And anyway, as I have said before, If you are complaining about coasters being ugly, you are one step away from being a Luna Park or an Alton Towers local .
  13. ^Thing is though, Disney wouldn't care about people who could only afford one or the other. As Richo said, Disney try to market their product as a one stop shop and dont rely upon the presence of other attractions, Disney becomes a destination in their own right. I mean, what was at Orlando pre Disney?
  14. It seems everyone had a good Knotts experience except me, I queued 1 hour for GR because of all the school groups there.
  15. ^To get peoples hopes up I suppose.
  16. This page shows some good pictures: http://www.roller-coaster.com.au/gallery.p...=191&page=2 The front part of the bike tilts back to cover your whole lap, and a bar at the back pivots around to stop you falling backwards.
  17. Nope, the tent that had nightmares in it is now a permanent function center.
  18. Here's a pic of the same ride, but with a full train of ACE members riding it at their Holiday World meet: But basically, the more drunk the layout looks, the better IMO, its rides like this that make me want a wooden coaster badly:
  19. ^Well, it could always be set up so that the main road leading into the park would be on that easement. If there was a downtown disney type area it could occupy the western side of line. car parks would also be suitable to go there (that way all your transport related infrastructure would be together) The eastern side of the line would probably be entirely for the theme park/hotels. There would be no way you would build the park over the line, but separate stuff either side would work. That is of course if any of this actually came to fruition On an unrelated note, building stuff over train lines is entirely feasible, you don't need huge overhead clearances, and you don't need 10m gaps either side. Federation square is pretty much built entirely over the railway lines leading into Flinders St Station in Melbourne.
  20. Ok the only wooden coasters currently operating in Australia are: Scenic Railway (Luna Park Melbourne) Mad Mouse (RAS Showgrounds) Wild Mouse (Aussie World) Wild Mouse (Luna Park Sydney) Defunct wooden coasters are: Big Dipper (Luna Park Sydney) Closed in 1979 Big Dipper (Luna Park Melbourne) Closed in 1989 Bush Beast (Wonderland) Closed in 2004 Beastie (Wonderland) Closed in 2004 Old Version Wild Mouse (Luna Park Sydney) 1979 (There was another wooden coaster in sydney, but it closed in 1911) Those are the only possible ones you could have been on. IMO the wild mouses which make up a large chunk of what we have/had dont really count because when people refer to 'woodies" they are talking about a larger scale ride with banked turns, trains rather than individual cars, open layouts etc.
  21. The wooden mad mouse at the Show ?
  22. Ok, we'll narrow it down, what wooden coasters outside Australia have you ridden? You are lumping everything into one basket. Thats a bit like saying Corkscrew and a Dragon Wagon Coaster are both the same because they are made of steel. But clearly corkscrew is a lot more exciting. What the ride is made of has nothing to do with it, its the track layout that matters. So yes length does matter, because longer rides are normally taller and faster and do more, and where it is does matter because if a good park builds a woodie, its going to turn out better than if a poor park tries to build one. I wont believe you at all! I have ridden more wooden coasters than you, and I have ridden good ones, not ones that were built 95 years ago (Scenic Railway) or whatever.
  23. Yeah, but It would spoil the flow of the ride, they have established a theme with Superman, and having Austin Powers in there would just wreck it. The MRT uniforms are better as it helps with the notion of boarding a subway train. No matter how 'hilarious' it might seem (I personally think it would just be stupid and not make sense if austin powers was doing up my harness) , it would be tacky and the 'joke' would get old fast. The ride is not comedic in nature, so doing this would not add to it. What do the "driving scenes" have to do with it?
  24. I dont think it would be practical, these characters belong on the street so they can meet and greet guests, It would only slow things down if you tried to put them in the fast paced environment of ride operations. Imagine the riot it would be if the looney tunes characters were being mobbed by kids trying to operate the carousel, or the slow downs it would cause on SDSC with people wanting photos with the gang whist boarding. On the other rides, would you have multiple versions of the same character (Eg 3 batmans on batwing) in order to fill all the roles needed to run the ride? Do the costumed characters want to operate rides? Do the ride ops want to dress up? IMO the approach they have now of themed uniforms is fine for me. Ummm, no comment.
