  1. Im just wondering, is there enough room around where Batman is for a couple of flat rides? They could coencide with the new batman movie and could be themed to a few other batman Characters, Mr Freeze or Poison Ivy for example. These would give the park its "20 minute queues" and help fill peoples days. A new Gotham city area would also be created with this. And because its close to the front of the park, the rides would have a high visual impact facing out towards the road.
  2. The brakes that seperate each block automaticaly close when that block is occupied. For example, say a car passes a set of brakes at the start of a block, after it has cleared the brakes they close, and do not re-open until it passes the next set of brakes, these ones close, and the first set opens. The brakes would most likley shut as soon as the block is occupied, instead of waiting till the car is near because it would save power (it takes power to keep brakes open) and because wear probably isnt much of an issue, i dont think its that frequent a car needs to stop on the main run-away part of the track because the dispatch times and block spacings have been optimised so this doesnt happen. They do this by having more blocks than required. As for the fire thing, its just stupid, If the fire detectors are placed so that all parts of the ride are covered then it would be more reliable than a sensor mounted on a moving object that can only see a part of the ride at a time. A fixed fire detector would find a fire sooner.
  3. Yeah, there are quite a few mack powered coasters about, one that springs to mind is Runaway Mine Train at Alton Towers. But I dont think this system is in use at MW, its is just incredibly unlikley. It would require electrical contacts along the entire track, which in just realising this, I have just thought of another point, if there is this supposed reverse away from danger system, how would it work if there is no third rail to power the car at the section the car is at. Another point, on the ride, can you hear electrical motor noises? And also, if these cars have batteries to move them, then where would the lage space needeed to hold the batteries be located. I really do thing you were being had, all the reasons stated by various people sound way more likley than something that was probably said to get someone (Adam) bothering someone (The ride op) about the intricate workings of the rides saftey systems off their back while they tried to do their job (operate the ride) Tell me people which of these situations sounds more likley. SITUATION A Adam: Hey Ride op dude, what happens on this ride in an emergency? Op: Uhh, well, we have these back up motors in the car right, that get you away from danger, and you know those Eyes that look like LEDs, well they are fire sensors. Adam: Cool! Op: (thinking to himself) Hee hee hee, he actually believed that spiel. SITUATION B Adam: Hey Ride op dude, what happens on this ride in an emergency? Op: Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster features a complex emergency system, and I will now stop doing my job of operating the ride to tell you about it. The ride features a complext zone blocking system, that................................. (10 mins later)........ And thats how it works. Adam: Cool!
  4. You cant get them by PM anyway since you cant send files by PM. BTW, after this comp is over, can someone else start a NL comp, i want to compete in one.
  5. But buying a new 9v battery every day for every car would just be wasteful. The LEDs might be powered by some other system, such as some sort of device in the car that generates the small amount of power needed for the LED. Are the electrical contacts you are thinking of just the block system sensors. If you want a definite answer, send an Email to the park or ask rabid as he would be able to get a straight answer.
  6. I went and asked for info too Bus, I wonder what they will think.
  7. Hmm, did you ask the op something like "what happens if this has an emergency?" The op may have just spun you pork pies about a second system because they might have just dismissed you as being GP and made up something to set your mind at ease, or to avoid having to give a long winded explanation on how a block system really works. Rabid, could you find out for us if this "second system" actually exists. Ta
  8. Im with alex on this, the eyes on the front of the cars would just be LEDs, and only there for ashetical value. It seems very stupid to have fire sensors on them, what sort of fire system would have its detectors on a moving object that has to keep tranmitting to a base station, when you could just have fire detectors and fire retarding equipment in fixed locations like every other building in the world I really do doubt the existance of onboard motors, an until you tell us where you got that from, im assuming its made up, like seriously, i have never heard of any other ride having motors in the cars as a back up system. The complexity of the control system to get the exact location of each car, then decide on what it should do with each one (direction to go, how fast to move the car ect) would be huge, and it has to make the right decsion. Scooby doo would be no different from any other mack mouse out there, execpt for the fact it has triggers on the track for the special effects. The straight parts kenny metioned is where the block brakes are, all mouse coasters have a zig zag and it serves a utilitarian purpouse of fitting in several block brakes, while still being fun for the riders. Kennys description also echos how it really works. All the block brakes were shut so kennys car stopped at the first block brake it got to. The others cars kept moving because they hadnt got their respective block brakes yet, and when they did, they stopped. Seriously, it doesnt have an on car system. . So in other words this entire thread has been built on what you think a secondary system would be like on scooby. Your own theroys and not any info from a credible source. You may have just misinterpreted what you heard, rides do have two computer systems, each one keeping a check on the other, and if one fails, the whole ride shuts down. I think this is what is really meant.
  9. Where did you get this about scooby having motors in the car and fire sensors on the car? I thought the ride would just have your standard zone blocking system. and if an emergency arises the E_Stop would be activated and people would just get off on the platforms where the block brakes are. And with fire detection, wouldnt there just be fire sprinklers? So if a fire started the smoke detectors would go off and the sprinker system would start.
  10. Obviously you didn't have a young'un to steal to go on Pteranodon Flyers
  11. A webcam can be an efficient way of doing things, if you place it in a spot with a nice view you can get a good outlook over the ride and collect a nice bunch of photos automatically instead of having to have someone go out there and take photos. Not exactly a new thing though, CP has been doing it for years.
  12. I probably would buy one, if it were reasonably priced, maybe no more than the price of a reguar DVD feature film. Hopefully it would come with a large stock footage section because then you get a nice video of the actual ride along with a fixed shot of you screaming your lungs out.
  13. Well, Superman will be the second tallest Accelerator coaster with inversions, and even then it only trailing by 11% in terms of height behind StR. I think that Accelerator coasters with inversions are really quite different to the hypercoaster style Accelerators and are looking to offer different things so they cant really be compared properly. With the hyper coaster style rides, the adrenaline is delivered in a quick burst while the ones with inversions look to deliver it out in a less intense but longer dose. But comparing to other loopers, 40m sounds fairly average.
  14. I reckon this could be broken off into its own thread. Political correctness has been invented by buerecrats and not by minoriy groups. For example, many non christian religious leaders have made it quite clear that they dont care if we have christmas cellebrations, yet councils, schools ect keep canceling it at their own will, not because any religious group has told them to, so its really the people who cancel its fault, not other religions. If political correctness keeps going the way it is, its just going to reach a boiling point where everone just vents how they feel and does what they want in an exposion of "political incorrectness".
  15. Im taking a neutral stance here, but what other natural wonders worldwide are people restricted from visiting excluding those with environmental reasons (eg visting it would cause erosion, degredation ect) Also, what is the big attraction of climbing it? I think a good compromise would be to have a helicopter/balloon flight over the rock, nobody can own air, but it would still offer similar views without touching the rock.
  16. A ride being big doesnt make it good, im hoping for a ride with an interesting layout like storm runner.
  17. Yeah, sounds cool i reckon, they could also put it in the queue on TVs , so people waiting could watch the riders faces. Definitley a step up from your standard on ride photo.
  18. RCDB appear to have added a couple of things ,according to them the ride will feature a top had that reaches a height of 40m, (equal to cyclone and 6.3 taller that LW) and the ride will open in October. Not sure of their sources, but if its true then this sounds pretty good and It would make it the second tallest Accelerator with inversions. Another thing to add, the Top hat would probably need to be a Kanonen style top hat where the twist is incorporated with the arch because Storm runner was pretty much at the limit of being able to have the twist and arch seperate whist keeping lateral Gs in check. 19. Taken from http://americacoasters.com/CoasterInfo/typ...soflaunches.php Linear Induction Motor (LIM) Launch - Launch mechanism introduced by Disney. Premier Rides was the first to introduce the LIM launched roller coaster. LIMs are electric motors which create linear (straight line) motion. Conductive aluminum fins are located on each side of the train and stator (electrical) coils are located in a series of anchored motor housings which extend out from beneath the loading platform along the track to more than 200-feet, ending at the base of the first hill/element. An electrical current pulses through the stator coils, which in turn creates an electro-magnetic force that pulls at flat metal bars, accelerating the train out of the station. As the train accelerates, each fin passes between a pair of stator coils which are powered consecutively in a time sequence, pulling the train forward till it reaches its maximum speed. Example: Flight of Fear, Paramount's Kings Island Linear Synchronous Motors (LSM) Launch - Launch mechanism first used by Intamin AG. A series of extremely powerful rare earth magnets are mounted on the car. Linear motors, which are placed on the track, are activated by electricity. The motors then create magnetic fields which pull the car forward by attraction. Magnetic fields also repel the magnets which are mounted on the vehicle, increasing speed. Example: Superman: The Escape, Six Flags Magic Mountain
  20. Actually Alex, Dysons are more Popular than Hoovers, especially in the UK. Just thought i might say that, but Alex, good points anyway.
  21. because some manufacturers prefer different ways, vekomas and arrows have their wheels on the insides, B&M intamin and zamperla have them on the outside, it makes no difference because both ways have the potential to be smooth.
  22. But TOT and GD were built for a fraction of the cost of disney rides, so they couldnt pay for major themeing. I bet if DW said, hey, im feeling crazy, lets spend $50 million on themeing GD, that the park would get into contact with some people, film and TV for example and create something really good. Disney employs imagineers because they have the money, and other parks dont because they dont have the money. If a park had the same financial resources as disney, im pretty sure they would be able to assemble their own team of dreamers. Rich had hit the nail on the head, there are other people with vision, but disney are the only ones to foster it propely. I get a fair few cool ideas in my head, they would cost loads, but it proves that you dont have to work at disney to have ideas.

    NL Fairground

http://www.nolimitsfairground.com/ Looks like a cool idea, i hope you can put them in with your NL coasters. Huss, I think I have found your perfect game.
  24. They use Parabolic curves, and a 3D design system so they can ride the ride to see if there are any bumps or oddly shaped curves, so their g forces are perfect with almost no erratic fluctuations. Their trains also have suspension, which makes a difference, and each set of wheel assembiles is complety independently swiveling. Also, i think the wheels on B&M trains are affixed tighter to the track to eliminate hunting, but the trade off with that is that their track panitwork gets worn off quicker.
  25. ....That isnt operating meaning its even more depressing for those who miss WL because they can see it but not ride it. Some heratiage orders are stupid anyway, like you hear stories about those fibro boxes that cant be demolished in Spotswood or whatever because they once housed migrants that came to melbourne and have some sort of stupid sentmental value, so now were stuck with ugly small houses that no body wants to live in and cant be renovated to a livable size. Its only worth preserving if its useable or actually nice.
