  1. The "it's called electrical tape because it conducts electricity" is absolute gold, and while it is pretty obvious that this is a joke you have to remember the effect Borat had on the American people, they all thought he was 100% serious. For those of you who haven't seen Borat GO AND BUY IT, it is more than worth it. "The Bus is now leaving for Red Tape Creek, Tasmania"
  2. Charcoal penguin anyone? I'll have a quarter penguin and chips thanks. "The Bus is now leaving for Charcoal Burners Bluff, Tasmania"
  3. It's been nearly 3 months since my last update on the Wonderland site. Earthmoving work is coming along in leaps and bounds and I expect that roadworks will begin shortly. It was quite hard to take these photos considering I was driving at 80km/h on Wallgrove Rd. "The Bus is now leaving for Wallgrove Hill, NSW" Here is the second part of the photos. These were taken from Wonderland Drive, at the bottom of what used to be the car park. "The Bus is now leaving for Moreland, Victoria"
  4. Stupid free-to-air, its all about foxtel what about free-to-air? no free-to-air people can press red buttons to pick a simpsons episode, no free-to-air people can press the red button to see behind the scenes of movies and no iQ isnt available for free-to-air people. 5. I can understand why WnW would choose this coaster as it has a small footprint and will be unique in Australia. What I don't understand is why they didn't go with, I can't remember what it is called, but they are inverted like Lethal Weapon and have several points around the track where riders are hit with water cannons. From memory the one that I saw on a website sometime ago allowed people on the gound to aim and shoot the water cannons as the train came past. "The Bus is now leaving for Sixty Foot Falls, NSW"
  6. While I won't be buying one for at least 6 months after the release, I still think that they are good value when you consider that a BluRay player on it's own is going to set you back $1600 at the moment. And as Coaster said you need a High Def TV to support the PS3 to it's full extent, but that goes for the player as well. "The Bus is now leaving for Rushforth Road Playing Fields, NSW"
  7. I would't do anything like that (looks the other way and slowly walks away). At least no one can hold onto the Probe harnesses while they are going up anymore - looks at both Daniel and Scream. Anyway I have some more info on this, the guy who was injured was in a coma for about 10 days but has since made a good recovery. He was not an employee of Luna Park but was an outside ride contractor brought in for the holiday period. This brings up a question, should Luna Park continue to risk a good safety record by bringing in outside contractors, who may have lower safety standards than they should? 8. Cool, it's good to see rides from a different perspective not just the usual video/photos from the public area. "The Bus is now leaving for Sunset Viewing Area, Northern Territory"
  9. Hardly a new experience, but a good one at that. "The Bus is now leaving for Adelaide Speed Boat Club, South Australia"
  10. Hey everyone I went to Wonderland the other day, well when I say Wonderland I mean Luna Park, they both have/had Merry-Go-Rounds after all. "The Bus is now leaving for Silly Pool, Western Australia"
  11. I agree with most of what Gazza said. It's just not viable for Australian parks to try and compete on a world level. That's not to say that Australian parks shouldn't have world class attractions, it just that we don't have the population and patronage to make it viable. Chaos, what are the 2 parks in NSW? "The Bus is now leaving for Viaduct Park, NSW"
  12. OzShow, having worked at theme parks for around 5 years I know where you are coming from in regards to knowing where to stand etc. However, when I take a look back at some of the stuff I, and other operators used to do on rides, it's scary and I realise now how lucky we were not to be injured or killed. Chaos in answer to your question about the compo, I believe it would be the insurance company for whoever he works for that would pay and depending on what the full story is and the out come from the Workcover inquiry is, the cost will then be collected from Luna Park. "The Bus is now leaving for Compodore Creek, NSW"
  13. Obviously not. The only "park" I know of is at the pier where the ferry from Sydney comes in. The only ride I remember, and it may still be there is a ferris wheel. I never went and had a look as I was more interested in the beach. "The Bus is now leaving for Dirty, Haul Beach, NSW"
  14. Scream the 4WD's were in pretty good condition before you and another team leader got their hands on them. "The Bus is now leaving for Hill Of Leaders, Northern Territory"
  15. **Cough** tree behind Probe **cough** "The Bus is now leaving for Parting Tree, South Australia"
  16. Gazza, theme park employment is very fluid so it is part of business that training occurs every year in the lead up to the peak period. For those of you who want to discuss mats of all and any type try here. "The Bus is now leaving for Curiosity Peak, Northern Territory"
  17. Parks will generally do a fairly large intake just before the summer holidays as that the the busiest time for them. As for the rest of the year they will recruit as required. The majority of staff tend to be students as they can work weekends. At the couple of parks I worked out I had to go through a group interview, then a quick one on one then got the job. Generally if you go to the parks website they will have a section about employment and what to do. Or you could give the park a call and ask to speak the Human Resources department. 18. How did she and the other kids manage to get injured on the Merry-Go-Round? Wait, let me guess, she was standing up on one of the horses and she slipped, OR she decided that the horse she was on was somehow different and not as good as the one over there so decided to move, OR she didn't listen to the operator when he/she said DON'T RUN. There are various other variations on the above but they would be the main reasons. "The Bus is now leaving for Big Rocking Horse, South Australia"
  19. The problem with ride specific themed uniforms is that if an operator is required at another ride it looks a bit stupid. "The Bus is now leaving for Spectacle Creek, Queensland"
  20. Yes. There was an attractions staff member in the "Striker" who was being taken out to the show, she was pretty shaken. As for Joanne it would be more like "rolling" than "running", I could never understand why she had a radio. "The Bus is now leaving for The Rolling Ground, NSW"
  21. You forgot to mention that the guy was at least 120kg's and only just managed to fit into the car. I had a girl who freaked out on the Speed Slide, she was only about 2 meters from the gate when she stopped and wouldn't go forward or back. I was called to help, I ended up having for 'walk' on the slippery metal grate between the sldes to talk her all the way down. Not to mention Nicki Webster. One Sunday, there was only me and one other supervisor on for the whole park. It had been a pretty quiet day with very few radio calls. We thought it would be a good idea to go and have a ride on the helicopter. Anyway the other supervisor went up first and almost as the chopper lifted off he got a radio call from the manager. So I answered for him saying that he was busy. Anyway 5 minutes or so later when he came back I got on the next flight, the exact same thing happened, the manager called me so the other supervisor had to answer for me and pretend he was me. Like John Cleese, don't mention the lion cubs. Ahh, the Wonderland Express, what a piece of ****. We did a function one night at the Beach, again it was me and the same supervisor as the helicopter incident. We were using the train to run people down the the back of the Beach as it was pissing down. At one point I managed to drop the key somewhere between the security post and the Beach. After about 30 minutes of searching in the pouring rain, while it was dark, with a torch that didn't work to well I found the keys in a puddle. To top that off when the function finished we loaded everyone up on the train, it was more than full, and would the train move, no. I had the wheels spinning I was giving it that much. Anyway after about 10 minutes of that we decided that half of the people would have to walk up to security in the pouring rain as the train wasn't going to go anywhere with all those people on it. I then got back into the drivers seat and realised that I hadn't released the air brakes and that's why it wasn't going anywhere. "The Bus is now leaving for Expressman Downs, Queensland"
  22. Unlike Checkout Chicks, Ride Operators actually get to have some fun. I had a great time during my nearly 5 years in the industry. As for careers, I started as and Op and moved up to Senior Op, Supervisor (both rides and waterpark) and trainer. You would be suprised to know that quite a lot of the management of parks have started off at the bottom (as Ride Ops, food a beverage staff, entertainers, etc), and have made their way up through the ranks. Ex-Wonderland CEO, Stephen Galbraith started at Seaworld as a teenager. "The Bus is now leaving for Caree, NSW"
  23. I meant to reply to this when the shoe issue came up. I wasn't there for this one but during an attractions staff party they had Dragon's Flight running. One of the supervisors was standing just outside the operators booth when a shoe smacked her clean on the cheek giving her a nice shoe print for a few days. 24. If you go into any Krispy Kreme store while they are cooking fresh one, which is most of the time, you will get a free one. I live not far from where the first store in Australia, and outside of North America, was opened and it was chaos for about 2 weeks. There were litterally hundereds of cars a day for the drive thru plus however many people went through the store. Staff from the US consulate in Canberra drove up just to get some. There is a photo the did the rounds of the email that has 6 or so highway patrol cars parked in a line outside the store. So are all other donuts, not to mention just about every other fast food and because it's not good for you is why it tastes so good. "The Bus is now leaving for Mount Crispe, South Australia"
  25. Here are some photos I took from the M7 to M4 flyover the other day. The quality isn't the best but you get that when you are travelling at 100km/h. Number 4 is the best shot and shows where Snowy used to be and the dam that was behind it. "The Bus is now leaving for Flyspeck Creek, Queensland"
