  1. Just thought I'd upload a pic I took this arvo of what's happening inside the old Marketplace area at Dreamworld. It's being advertised outside as a new Patisserie & Grill opening "soon'" (as far as I'm aware there hasn't been a date set yet) and certainly sounds yummy ☺️ Hopefully it will open this year sometime ☺️?

  2. Also just looking to confirm the theming in these two areas please. And yes, @Gazza I know the layout isn't perfect, and nor in the theming, but here we are.

  3. Some light I can shed on this, right up my alley it is... If they were moving/relocating the transformer they would have already started the new pad (transformer Uniculvert) with conduits in place through to the new switchboard location. Energex will not even consider any works until this is done well in advance, total process from start to finish on our last transformer was 6 months, and we had to wait 3 months from when we were ready onsite with everything in place. That being said, there could be a switchboard upgrade happening which would require more conduits to be installed to the current transformer location, and there is a somewhat easy way to tell this. If anyone is at the park looking through fences as we all do, look for an electrical "Pit". You would walk over them all the time through the city and may have never noticed them, if there are new pits int he ground then the conduit works have been completed already. I would, as a GUESS only, think that considering the good weather over the footing install stage, we would start to see parts arrive end of March for an April vertical start. This would allow most of the supports and track to be complete by end of May, wiring and systems in through June/July with testing starting in August for a September opening. Also we now have to consider that the testing will be a lot more scrutinized after the Dreamworld tragedy, so this may have been allowed for as well, in my own opinion.

  4. To me this shows the biggest issue regarding Village. They always see fit to blame others for their loses. They did it before in regards you movie piracy and now are doing it with their parks. Instead of admitting their wrongs they would rather try and distance themselves or attack. Instead they really should be focusing on themselves, so they should be fixing up their parksite d giving people a reason to go back. At the moment WnW Sydney has hardly changed since it opened and doesn't have the best staff and Sea world is only a fraction of its past. Sea World should be a park that people would play full price to go to, but as it sits the majority of people would onlyrics go if they went to WnW or MW. They should also be working with DW instead of trying to push them away. As this issue has not just been about DW the media also took aim at MW's ride "malfunctions", because of the media they are just as much a part of it as DW is. They should be working together to restore confidence in theme parks.

  6. Well, those are the only main parks on the Gold Coast. They are all really good and different in their own way. Movieworld have added 3 new rides since you have been gone. Dreamworld have added 2 new rides and a complete kids area, and White Water World have added 1 new ride. SeaWorld has turned into an aquarium now, as they only have 2 rides and a kid area, but it is still very enjoyable (without the protesting). I would personally suggest buying a 3 day or 7 day pass to Movie world, Sea World and Wet n Wild, as there is alot to do and you wouldnt be able to fit it all into a short space of time. As for Dreamworld, you would only need a day or two. At dreamworld, the ticket prices are really cheap at the moment, because not all of the rides are open yet. (Just one thrill ride to go). Just do a bit of research and you should be fine

  7. Firstly it's worth reiterating that this isn't a knee-jerk cut of all expenditure but rather an apparent renewed focus on ROI. It's also worth pointing out that despite the attendance hit they took this period, VRTP is performing OK in comparison to other divisions and the company suggests they have every confidence that the post-Thunder River Rapids pain will be short-lived. A very simplistic way of looking at major theme park CapEx as it stands (or stood): FY17 - Doomsday FY18 - Coaster FY19 - Topgolf FY20 - Sea World attraction Simplistic because some of these investments are clearly spread over several years, include expenses that would predate this timeline, and of course major attractions only form a piece of the CapEx at the theme parks. The coaster is well underway to the point where it is inevitable. The company seems committed to Topgolf as it featured heavily in today's presentation and was referred to favourably in the context of this tightening of CapEx. The 2019 Sea World attraction that has been hinted is likely be the next major attraction at the Gold Coast parks and would probably be structured to fall within the 2020 financial year. If there are major cuts to theme park investment then this would likely be the first casualty, but but there's a few things working in its favour: The annual renewal drive really does rely on there being something new at one of the Gold Coast parks. Sea World is next in line after a few Movie World-centric years, not to mention their dwindling attraction roster. The dearth of rides at Sea World notwithstanding, Sea World will be just short of seven years since their last major animal attraction by December 2019. If there's a way to do an interesting major animal exhibit with minimal capital outlay and activist controversy then that's what I'd be looking for as a cash-strapped theme park operator.

  8. I don't have one? I appreciate each and every of them for their own reasons. Especially after living rurally for 10 years where there's no theme parks, and the Gold Coast ones are a 4 hour drive each way to get to. Personally I'm very thankful for very day I get to spend at each theme park, and heaven knows I have a lot of jealous friends over the fact I get to go so frequently. And yes, I suppose it would also be easy to take somewhere like Dreamworld for granted when you've obviously had the advantage of worldwide travel to visit other major parks. Not all of us can say the same, so we continue to appreciate our local ones. They have brought me a lot of personal happiness and inspiration over a long enough period of time for me to ever feel otherwise. If I didn't already have an unlimited membership for Dreamworld, I'd be more than happy to accept your punishment offer any day. I'm sure most of us can think of much worse ways to spend our time lol ?? PS. If you consider going to Dreamworld as "punishment", then have you ever considered... wait for it... maybe not going there?

  9. > Certain theming did not meet certain standards. > Park has 2 options Close ride and rebuild theming - park already has rides out of action - people will complain Removing theming and open ride for peak season - people will complain The option they have chosen seems to be the lesser of 2 evils. There's no way they were going to be able to pull this off without some kind of complaints. They know that and they'd be expecting that. What disappoints me is the lack of communication. We all know MW love their A-Frames, so why not a sign out the front that advises guests the ride is currently undergoing refurbishment, however it is still open for guests enjoyment. It can be fairly safe to say that they don't want to operate the ride in its current condition however, given this has come at the start of peak season when they need to have as many of their rides open as possible, they had to do something. I seem to be the only person I've spoken to so far (yes I talk to myself, what of it ) that doesn't have an issue with the ride in its current state, given we know it's a temporary band-aid fix.. We know it's going to close after peak season for a theming rebuild. Can't we just be happy that they have the ride open to soak up some of the crowd in the meantime?
