  1. This is a good way as Joz has pointed out to create urgency. If there was a true end number of passes, then they wouldn't put an end date to the promotion but rather a number of passes. Its quite smart but also sneaky. If they are sending these emails to people who have passes already, then the intent could be to make people think "Well, i'm a member, but if I cancel, I may not get back in later on", curbing the cancellation rate as we approach the 12 month period of the passes having been released. That said for that to work they will actually need to suspend the sale of the passes.
  2. This matches my theory about this setup being a temp tiger nursery display. The Tiger Nursery in Tiger Island is a Quarantined area, meaning the Tiger Island refurb will probably be going ahead. As for the future of Kevil Hill, well, time will tell if it gets engulfed by Tiger Island, or if it makes a return as a Maze/ Laser Tag in the future.
  3. If Oasis/ Jupiters want an easy way to dispose of the Monorail, i'm more than happy to talk to them... This is another nail in the coffin for what is a great transport solution. The sad part is they have hardly been seen as more than tourist transport than a serious transport solution. It's sad that there hasn't been enough push and vision to make a proper transport system out of the Monorail. Back on topic. I think the Sea World Monorail system is well patronized enough to justify an upgrade rather than a scrapping when that time comes. That said though, the railway and chairlift were reasonably popular when they were pulled from service..
  4. @The Sunlander Reports say it did run on Saturday. The Dreamworld Facebook page, as well as the Dreamworld Website have now mentioned that it is running on the 1st Saturday of the Month. https://www.dreamworld.com.au/whats-on
  5. I disagree. A little faster won't hurt anybody. I agree with everyone, the writing seems to almost be on the wall for the current system especially now that their 3rd train has been cannibalised for parts. It is an important part of the park though, so I do hope that whatever they do with the monorail going forward that it or something like it remains in the park. On the subject of Sea World and its transport systems, does anyone know what happened to the second diesel train that they had, and the set of carriages that went with it? I have seen the red engine on display in the station, but haven't seen the blue one since they were removed from under Sea Viper prior to demolition.
  6. The expansion/ renovation for Tiger Island was indeed planned for 2015, however it was put on hold a few days before construction was due to start. I'll give you 3 guesses as to why it was stopped. It got as far as markings being made on the concrete in the area.
  7. Yes, I am aware of that, however if they commit to extra running it would be a given that they source an additional qualified driver.
  8. I would love to be there Themeparkfan, but I won't be able to this time. We will probably never see steam return full time, and whilst running once a month is great, I do wish the park would commit to running more than that. Atleast every weekend would be great now wouldn't it?
  9. Tomorrow (Saturday) should be the first day of the return to regular scheduled service for the steam train. Will anybody from here be going down to have a look?
  10. Thanks for the info @The Sunlander and @Alexb for doing the measurements on Nearmap. There used to be a time where it was advertised as the longest privately owned railway in Queensland. I used to laugh as a lot of the sugar railway lines where our engines came from are privately owned, and significantly longer.
  11. For anyone interested, here is another video >
  12. Very small world, nice to encounter even if through YouTube another parkz member out in the wild.
  13. I was about to correct you Inverted, but all good. There are some gas (LPG) locos around so the idea has merit. I did some filming to capture the moment on Tuesday, so please excuse the crudeness.
  14. Also noticed this error The way I read it, it is saying that each engine has about a century of history. The Baldwin is nearing a century (built in 1917 for service in WW1) but the Perry was only built in 1951. Thanks for writing the article Richard, its fantastic to see this event and the engine itself receive the recognition it deserves.
  15. Back in the old days they used to run both the Perry and Baldwin simultaneously, sadly the carriages they had to do this are now perished and the only one remaining now resides at Woodford. At this point in time, we won't see the steam train run every day like they used to, it's not going to happen, however I think what we can now hope for at best is weekend and peak running services. It is also worth noting that upon closer inspection, the Diesel replacement hasn't aged very well, you just need to compare photos from when it was new to how it looks now. You are welcome to your own opinion, but I disagree. I'd rather see a steamer operating for shorter operational hours than a diesel running for 2 extra hours, it's about the experience and authenticity. Judging by the amount of attention this has caused, it sure sounds like the experience and authenticity is something people care about.
  16. It could be related, that said yesterday the engine ran from 10-5 with an hour break at 1230. Back in the day where they were hell bent on getting rid of the steam (and when the writing was on the wall) they were only operating between 11-4 with a break in the middle to save operating costs, when the diesel took over the full operating schedule was resumed. Even if it was only a "trial", from all reports it was successful and sure got a lot of people talking about it. The comments from all walks of life were along the lines of "it's a real steam train", which is refreshing to hear. The day the park pulled the pin on steam was the day the park threw its history into the bin and said "we don't care". The park has changed a lot since then, and my wife can tell you how much I was buzzing after hearing the news about management giving the green light to run the Baldwin. There's been a few people in the background campaigning the return of the steam train, and it looks like it has paid off. To those who had been working in the background to make it happen, thank you. I really hope this is the start of more frequent and scheduled use of the steam engine.
  17. Sultan was not the parks first tiger, he was part of the Awesome Pawsome, a litter of 4 tigers born at the same time (Sita, Sultan, Rama & Taj). Mohan was the parks first Tiger, bought in for the breeding program (and father to the first litter The Awesome Pawsome).
  18. If the operating hours are to be believed, it looks like the Railway has had its operating hours reduced.
  19. An absolute shame. Gone are the days when movie world has a truely entertaining and enjoyable stunt show. Might as well bulldoze the area and use it as an expansion slab.
  20. Also at the ABC Shop. Its quite an enjoyable doco.
  21. 2015 has been a good year for the park. I haven't seen it yet but the Brock garage I quite unique and whilst I would have love to have seen a new coaster in 2015, the refurb of cyclone looks to have been an all round winner. 2016, I hope more of the park is plussed, I hope we see Eureka run again, i would love to see a new coaster development happen, and would love to see something come of the old steam train that they have sitting in the shed. The park just hasn't been the same since they went diesel.
  22. See that map is deceiving. Yes it shows the Chinatown alley as being open as kind of a Main Street Bypass, however last Saturday when we attended the event, the route as described on the map was closed making it quite a pain to navigate Main Street during and prior to the parade as people seem to enjoy camping on the street.
  23. But the attraction is not finished, you have no idea what they are doing? In contrast it's like you are saying that Superman is a horrible ride because it wasn't repainted in its yearly refurb. Firstly, who cares if the track is repainted, it doesn't affect the ride just the park aesthetics so who cares? Secondly as DJ said, judging a project or attraction without seeing and experiencing the final product is a stupid thing to do. Have you never heard of the saying never judge a book by its cover? Why not have a bit of faith? If they seriously do a horrible job that DETRACTS from the ride/ experience then yeah, go ahead and blast them with reasoning for your thoughts then.
  24. I'm all for calling the park out for dodgy work, however how do you know and how can you say this? Are you on the production team? Have you done an Andrewh? Regardless the project is not finished, there's no sneak peaks, and we haven't seen the finished product yet. The only bad thing we can so far say is that we now have 2 Motorsport themed areas, which is weird but honestly we have always in recent times had 2 different Motorsport themed attractions so this isn't much different. Im all for calling them out for bad work, but really, we have no basis to yet base these claims on.
