  1. Honestly, I'd take that over cookie cutter corflute anyday.
  2. I'm going to disagree (shock horror) but I have a simple point to counter here. Pretty much all I hear from folks who knew 'old dreamworld' is 'it's not as ______ as it used to be'. And its true. We know that. Like you said - gangrenous limbs and all that. Folks are getting nostalgic for old dreamworld because current dreamworld has its share of problems. We also know that they can't wave a magic wand and replace everything tomorrow. Rebuilding the brand, and the lineup, takes time. Adding some simple entertainment elements that people see and go "oh my gosh, remember when we visited and those barbershop guys sang to mum \ sister \ whatever? oh those were the days" Like any player of RCT will tell you - if you can't afford to fix the problems right away - hire some entertainers to distract the guests. I agree that thematically these entertainment options and nostalgic things don't fit anymore with the current dreamworld, but it is a 'dream' world, and since anything can happen in a dream its not that far out of the question, right? I don't see some of these things continuing on, but for now, for their 40th birthday celebrations and as a gap filler this year until the next thing arrives to start plugging the holes, i'm ok with that offering to distract the guests for the time being...
  3. I just googled 'Family Movie' and among the results were the likes of Maleficent, Pixar's Onward, and the 2019 live action musical 'Cats'. We haven't seen a footprint, layout, POV or even artist's rendering yet. Maybe don't judge a book by the cover you haven't seen yet?
  4. Dreamworld's got a lot of icons, but movie world is the home of the coast's greatest collection of codpieces...
  5. When I went to Magic Mountain in 1996, all their ride closure\maintenance\excuse our mess signage was all LT themed characters. Yosemite Sam is in the Movie World parking lot remindin' varmints to turn off their headlights. I don't see an inherent problem with using the park's licenced cartoons broadly across their signage, but I did actually say 'tailored' signage, so if there were a move to re-introduce the life-size cutout characters, i'd be keen to see them have a proper, suitable board for each ride - or at the very least a Justice League theme for the DC rides, LT characters for WB Kids, & Scooby (no brainer). Then you've only got Roxy (Either go with the current resident film star - or Marvin is perfectly fine given his long residency) and West (for which Foghorn is perfectly fine IMO, but if you wanted to, I'd probably go with a bunch of vultures atop the signboard to fit in with the ride's bridge. Other than the time for a painter to produce this (heck, let's face it, their digital sign printer can knock it up and they can just nail it to a piece of plywood), what's the big deal in this little attention to detail?
  6. An A-frame with some mass-printed generic corflute signage is not an improvement on hand-painted individually tailored artworks. (I mean, its been a long time since they were individually tailored, but still...) The problem with black and white signage is a lot of people tend to walk straight past them - especially in a village park where A-frame signs are literally everywhere. Give me a 3-dimensional moose you can punch any day.
  7. The quote is right there - family ride will be more sky voyager than steel taipan... My bet is some sort of enclosed attraction than a thrill ride... and given the closure of Big Red Car was at the beginning of Greg's time at the park, that's probably a good spot for it too, provided you can give it an appropriate theme for the area. (Especially since ABC Kids was also due for a refurb before Covid) I hope they realise the old train was also wheelchair accessible. For all the folks who neg this guy - this is the sign of a great park leader. Ivory towers don't help execs understand what the boots on the ground can tell them - they've got to get the same boots on and walk a mile beside a guest to know what impact their decisions are having on the guest experience.
  8. I wonder if they'll give as much love to the main entrance building. it is desperately in need of love.
  9. It's surveyors tape or flagging tape. Used outdoors to create bright visible markers. Surveyors will attach them to boundary pegs and the like. Search and rescue teams also use it to mark the edge of their search patterns. So the tape itself doesn't have a specific meaning - it will be to indicate a spot or area that requires attention in some way. It could be markers for cleaning, painting, rust removal, NDT testing... heck it could even be the places to attach the dynamite for demolition.... (but probably not)...
  10. @Richardhas indicated that there is something in the works for this, so I wouldn't entirely write it off. I know i'm being way too ambitious but i'd love to see something nice like Manta's launch bay at Sea World San Diego. It fits the park to basically copy that too.
  11. But movie world is world class. they don't need to do that.
  12. If people, who haven't visited before, visit and find the only 'adult' level rides are Rivals and Scooby, I doubt they're deciding to buy a pass.
  13. It's the new insurance requirements - you can't kill anyone if nothing is open. #alldreamworldsfault
  14. I'm pretty certain this fenced off area to the right hand side of the staff entrance is signposted as a HLS - although admittedly its been a few years since I went down that end of the carpark. The top right corner of this view shows a Windsock: And here's the google streetview, although there does not appear to be any signage indicating that it is in use, the windsock suggests it's still relatively active:
  15. ^...with the point being that they only roll them out when they expect to have large crowds - not because guest experience is being negatively impacted without it.
  16. Sorry lads - No new Nearmap since November so no alternate viewpoints right now...
  17. No doubt just an upgrade to their advertising to try and catch more punters. It's insanely expensive for what they offer... But you can charter a chopper from SW to take you to Topgolf for a night with the boys, and have them pick you up when you're done for a few thousand. I assume they'd land in the MW helipad though...
  18. Or Red like another park down the road... Truthfully though it's bizarre some of the colour choices on building materials at the moment, but many of the manufacturers are just bulk producing in 1 or 2 core colours. To misquote Henry Ford - You can have any colour you want, as long as it's white...
  19. Yep, I’d say since all the new ones are shutdown for 3 days midweek, chances are that’s when they’re hoping to install the fix for Kaboom… it makes sense anyway.
  20. Were all seats active or some locked out on the one train? also, it’s pretty well established Village only run two-train between Christmas and Australia Day. I mean - compared to some others I’ve seen - the bad ones really take you on a Journey.
  21. To be fair, there's a lot more competition out there that they have to compete hard to convince people to choose their park over the hundreds of others they could go to - so the extra marketing is needed. The GC parks have long learned the arrogance of being the only "real" option for Aussies (yes, other regional parks are out there but rarely are they the 'reason' for the trip - just a 'do while we're there' in most cases), so they don't have to compete as much - Honestly I think the only reason we got the Rivals video we did was because an enthusiast did a hell of a job and village went - "WOW - we should pay him" otherwise I doubt we'd have gotten the rivals one either.
  22. Home streaming services won't even let you use a dongle to screenshare off a phone to a TV using HDMI because it thinks you're trying to pirate the signal. Copy protection on digital streaming services has entered the 21st century - even if Village Roadshow haven't.
