  1. I have no basis for this claim, but i'm sure it'll be active for the boxing day to new years period - it might even survive to Australia day - before it will go back down again... (or maybe it'll swap?)
  2. This list is missing Knott's. Curious whether this is an oversight, or whether you don't rate it - and if so, how come?
  3. I thought I should say something positive - and so i'll just say 'at least it isn't red'. This is pitiful. All of the efforts we've seen them do elsewhere - and they knew this giant hole was going to exist when they planned to remove TOT - and go away colourbond is what we get? Obviously driveway access was needed here but why do we need to - couldn't we have dropped in some large planters with some grown in shrubs or palm trees, or semi-screened with something less bold than corrugated metal a foot from the path? This isn't temporary hoarding until they finish - this looks permanent. and its horrible.
  4. Clearly the ghost guy is faster than the sunflower guy. You can't have ghost union members taking down sunflowers or the sunflower union members will strike, and then they'll lose the Christmas Snowflakes AND the Valentine's hearts and then where would we be?
  5. A lot of that preliminary work wouldn't need to shut down both rides.
  6. ehhh. Its a syllable shorter. its snappier, punchier. Since it isn't hot wheels anymore, its a moot point, but my argument is they should have gone with a shorter name from the beginning. I'm not saying to change it (and its too late now) i'm saying these long names should never exist in the first pla
  7. That's a really good point - will Village be screwing the pooch with all this pent up desire for overseas travel, if travel is starting to get its legs by Easter (and warmer climates hitting the northern hemisphere) - will all those out-of-staters they're holding out for be going elsewhere?
  8. Sure. Justice League 3D DC Rivals HotWheels... Racer? All perfectly acceptable, shorter and easier to pronounce \ incorporate into a spiel. I'm appalled I completely omitted the SDSCNG as that is the worst of them all. Last I heard from you you were still filling your house with fog juice - and i'm sure its been a while since you did that. Glad to know you're still around man.
  9. If you watch any state premier deliver the morning's covid update on any given day, you'll be less surprised - once you see the amount of people who comment 'FIRST!' - despite not being first. I'm sure Village can afford to wait (although, the ride construction timeline so far does not suggest they're 'intentionally waiting') - but Dreamworld really can't afford to limp on any longer - they need something now to bring people back - and beating Village to the punch means they'll get a solid couple months where the "Movie world or Dreamworld" question is for a short time an easy answer for many. (before anyone asks - still not for me). There's a reason we've almost never seen a ride launch in the Easter holidays. It's a weak offering. Easter is the last hurrah before seasonal parks shut down for the Winter (which now includes two on the Gold Coast) TL:DR - I get why Village is waiting, and they can afford to. Dreamworld can't. Honestly I think it benefits them both to be staggered rather than fighting over the same piece of pie.
  10. How’s that compare with Taipan’s schedule?
  11. Bounty model maxes out at 70 degrees. It isn’t counterweighted and can’t do a full revolution.
  12. That’s what our Gold Coast parks do… JUSTICE LEAGUE: ALIEN INVASION: 3D DC RIVALS HYPERCOASTER HOT WHEELS SIDEWINDER ARKHAM ASYLUM: SHOCK THERAPY
  13. HOLY CRAP talk about waking the dead! Welcome back to the land of the living @Flea!!! I guess they're just lucky you were available...
  14. I get so uninspired when projects include 'retail and commercial tenancies' and 'childcare centre'. Are they announcing North Lakes?
  15. That's a controlled motion, not in any way representative of the swinging ship ride experience. Would someone call Intamin and ask them if they're still doing Looping Starships?
  16. You're right. You said replica. Them your words. Vikings made use of the land available at the time, and the castle. It was then integrated into Bermuda because it was already there and removing it was stupid. If Skyway was still standing in it's original install configuration, I couldn't call it terrible - it's better than no skyway at all. They've done zero worthy alterations to the land the skyway occupied. So skyway wasn't terrible. I wouldn't advocate for them to bring it back in the same configuration. Nor would I ask them to do that with Log Flume (although it has been said that the trough is most likely in reasonable condition and all it would need is new boats which is a damn sight cheaper than building a whole new log flume from scratch.) Pirate was meh. it was good because it didn't invert and that let the more easily intimidated visitors give a swinging ship a try without worrying about the 'upside down' part like Bounty's revenge always had. I'd like for them to install a modern ride of similar experience - take a look at Luna Park Sydney's new lineup for some inspirations. Bottom line - if all three of those attractions still operated today in their 'of the time' configuration, I wouldn't be upset. None of their footprints have been taken over by any new installation, and they could coexist happily in the parks line-up which would, overall, improve a guest's experience simply by volume alone. BUT since all of them HAVE been removed, they should bring a modern simile to the park that offers a similar ride type or experience, but with improvements or advancements on the tech of the 80s to keep current with today's trends and systems.
  17. For mine, I can't say Skyway was terrible - but I also can't say i've been on it more than once, mainly due to insanely long queues, mainly due to insanely crappy capacity and operations. Fixed gondolas, stopping the drive rope to loading and unloading, suspending guests in the middle of the course overhead the dolphin pools - all up it wasn't very good. A continuous load system - even one as old and cruddy as Wonderland's Skyrider would have been a better system simply because you can load as fast as guests can board. I do think Sea World's system was bound to go, simply because they were open cabins in this modern safety conscious world. The view from the attraction was the main drawcard, and a replacement with improved operations and safety systems would be welcomed, but probably yawned at by the vast majority, hence why we've got three thrill rides in Atlantis without a replacement for our family log flume.
  18. I'm not even sure they could do the Ski Pyramid with the current lake size - they used to set it up down the 'river' near the pirate ship and appear to the stadium already set up. Of course they could pull it off (if they had the skilled and talented skiiers) but the setup would be in full view of the crowd. I do agree a 51st would be understandable and worthy of a bigger celebration at a better time. Hopefully they think that is a good idea.
  19. In recent memory though, Hooray would be the exception, rather than the rule. It was 'the most' extravagant park-wide package they've put on in decades. I do sometimes wonder how much of what our parks do is reactionary to things said on social media (or here) and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they'd completely forgotten about it until they threw a huge party for MW and then someone went 'hey, you know Sea World is 50 this year too, right?'. yeah ok, i'm a bit too cynical, but stranger things have happened.
  20. I think the difference is, Hooray was planned when borders were open, and although things timed poorly with it's premiere, it had mild successes. Sea World on the other hand turns 50 while borders are still shut - and there's probably a lot of apathy at VRTP about planning more events (outside the usual) until things return to BAU. They should be running fright nights now and they aren't - so Spooky Nights is already a risky endeavour - Plus they'll now be outside school holidays - so everything points to 'unlikely' but it is a shame they didn't put on something special.
  21. Movie World just had it's 30th... (3/6/91) Wet n Wild GC was 30/9/84 - so it just turned 37 Jamberoo will turn 41 in 3 weeks Merimbula's Magic Mountain 38 Luna Park Sydney was 86 yesterday Aussie World is 32 next month White Water World will be 15 at the end of the year. Luna Park Melbourne will hit 109 in December. Adventure World Perth and Rainbow's End NZ will both be 39 next month. That's all I can be bothered with, although i'm sure there are others out there - doesn't look like anyone has a BIG milestone planned for a while.
  22. The other bonus was you could pay on your phone, meaning the 'end of time' split bill scenario was much easier as everyone paying separately only had to pay their 'share' of the bay cost, rather than working out who ate what and how many beers each person had etc.
  23. Given DW and MW both removed theirs, my guess is the ride system probably had some sort of flaw or regulatory downfall in our region that deemed them unsuitable to operate.
  24. Yeah that's a miss IMO - Designing an online system for ordering is a good idea - but you need your regulars to be able to use it - one-off visitors might not use it if it requires sign-in or set up because they'll only be there once - whereas regulars will have it set up and use it every visit. I did like the way Top Golf QR code ordering was set up on a visit a few months back - it made it really easy to order another drink to the bay instead of hunting around for elusive service staff. Is the DW system anything like that?
