  1. Although we know there's a huge difference between an Invert and an SLC, they look 'the same' to normies, and just like people mistook Vortex for Wipeout in a new spot, I feel like a B&M invert would be seen by folk as 'lethal\arkham'. I think though that a Flyer would be perceived by most as 'next level invert' - A flyer looks 'the same' in station until it moves into the 'flying' position, so identifiably different, but familiar enough most people wouldn't shit themselves looking at it.
  2. I love everything about this idea except this. The costs of registration should be going to the charitable organisation. The fundraising should be an option, but it shouldn't be required. Operational costs should be met by the sponsors. If a family of 5 decides to join - they've all paid between $100-170 total to participate, and in turn they've got to find an additional $100 to squeeze out of friends and family? Are they not allowed to participate if they don't meet their fundraising goal? do they get their registration fee back? Sounds less like a fun run and more like a fund run.
  3. "I watched ads on your other videos, so I should get all your videos for free forever!" Yeah. Ok Karen.
  4. Did you have stoke? You've no idea the particular set of circumstances that lead to Wonderland's demise. First of all, recall that the park operated for close to 20 years. Hardly a failure - at least for the first 15. Furthermore, with that attitude, why should anyone ever think about building a park anywhere? Someone get in the time machine and tell Uncle Walt not to bother - he's got zero chance. The only park that has zero chance is the one that isn't built. What is wrong with the manufacturers mentioned? they are quite well known names in the industry. They're not top-tier, but a regional park trying to grow can't pick top tier manufacturers or they'll go broke before they've seen a return on investment. Personally, I think a single expansion, going from current state to all of that mentioned above is ambitious and fraught with very high risk - however an organic expansion, adding a new ride every season or two based on available funds, increase visitation and marketing would be a way to go and in 10 years or so maybe you've built something worthy of a destination, or at the very least a detour. As for being realistic @pazzap - you're the one that wants to keep a maintenance nightmare, and remove a just-refurbished coaster, or spend more money reprofiling it simply because it isn't to your taste. If you're going to insist that people's proposals be realistic - perhaps you could start with your own.
  5. This says they've been working with Dreamworld and VRTP for the last two years - i'm not seeing why (if these guys are hot shit) leviathan would be delayed for these reasons? this seems to be a perfect explanation as to why engineering safety signoffs aren't the issue.
  6. I'm just gonna keep it simple and say a flyer. The ride experience is unique enough to anything else in the country that it would be worth travelling to experience it. Putting aside the enthusiast element, the general public aren't going to recognise much of a difference in one sit-down ride to another, except if it goes upside down or not - but a flyer - you can tell straight away how different it is to anything else we already have.
  7. This is actually the best bit of theming they've done so far - i've seen so many snake handlers put snakes into hessian sacks, so I guess this tells the story that the steel taipan has been caught! CRIKEY!
  8. I mean, I know its in a different league in terms of population and traffic, but Buffalo Bill's had Desperado for over 20 years (although it's had its fair share of ups and downs 🤣) on I15 between LA and Vegas. Coffs is a city on the verge of change - the bypass will see a lot of reduced traffic through the town, but it's still a holiday destination too - not just a town reliant on travellers passing through. The big banana has been trying to re-invent itself for years and I think their latest plans do look strong enough to convince people to detour off the bypass. Perhaps not today, but in the near future, the evolution of Coffs will permit a proper full size coaster and that should have all our support! Back to HVG - I love the concept, but I fear HVG is too far from the big destinations to be a day trip, but will be too small to warrant an overnight stay - even with the other elements in the area (in my personal experience, wineries are not the usual hang-outs of outside-park-hours theme park goers). You haven't mentioned anything about the structure of admission - is this a pay-per-ride structure like the old Luna ticketing system or a gated admission park like the GC? or a free-admission, buy a wristband to ride system like the current luna system? I'm not sure the locals will support gating the gardens, so it seems like you need individual ticket purchase (which tends to limit riders to a once-and-done mentality) or 'unlimited wristband' sessions - which needs to be priced affordably to convince purchase but sufficiently to cover all potential operating costs. It's a dicey choice for a new venture without being located in a tourism hotspot. I know of your particular preference for HVG, but I feel like anything new for NSW probably needs to be closer to Sydney. I do feel like the Badgery's Creek Airport will lend itself well to development of previously remote rural land - Hong Kong Disneyland probably wouldn't have gone ahead if it weren't for the new HK airport being built on Lantau island. Similarly I think any theme park for NSW needs to be based closed to mass tourism transport corridors - and with Badgery's Creek, south western greater sydney basin farmland becomes a really viable option.
  9. I mean - maybe I asked for this so I can't really complain. I can see what they were going for but the template edges have been done as straight lines so you can see the square borders too and that makes it look horrible. I want to hope this is a 'work in progress' and it isn't finished yet, but it looks like they've cleaned up so i'd say that's it. I don't know - at least they tried? On a brighter note though - After thinking we were going to get plain black cyclone fencing, I want to say that the white\grey school fencing is a much nicer look. I said TEXTURE! TEXTURE! Not painted dots!
  10. Posting this not to chastise you but to ensure people see it. This post is actually pinned to the top of the theme parks discussion sub, but as most people (like me) only go to 'unread content' - pinned posts are quickly and easily overlooked. *i'm not a mod - just a long-term member begging for people to preserve what's left of his sanity.
  11. I mean, I agree with you, but at the same time, investment firms don't have to actually improve something to sell it for a profit. You can just shuffle the books to change the value and voila! Take a look at Dick Smith Electronics.
  12. Honestly we're up to 9 pages.... we've done pretty well.
  13. Were those trains new from the ground up (or should I say the track down?) - The Kumbak trains used the same 'purple train' rolling stock in service from Lethal Weapon. Are the new Vekoma trains just replacement hangers \ seats \ harnesses? or was it brand new everything?
  14. As usual, you shot straight past obtuse into reflex territory.
  15. Now you're being deliberately obtuse. You know I haven't been on it. But when it's biggest fans are saying 'don't ride this during opening hours' its fair to say it's got problems.
  16. First of all - your two posts here are replying to the same person. You've assured me on the one hand you have thicker skin but then returned to fly off the handle? So let's just clear a few things up. I'm not an admin. Parkz Crew is a member subscription. You support the site, you get a few extra forum features. You've been a member here since '04, and you've drifted in and out several times over the years - one would assume you've been paying at least some attention - you're not getting banned for disagreeing with moderators here - shit - i'd have been gone long ago if that was the case. As for the 10M loss - That's my bad as I thought it cost $10m and I should have checked. It cost $7M, so i'll just amend my original comment to a $7M loss. Buzz never proved to be popular. It's fair to say they didn't get the return on investment they expected. They're selling it now - with extras - for around $250k. I'm sure it made them something back on their investment, but overall it wasn't profitable Especially given how much of it's operating life was spent closed. (Fun fact - if you go over your previous posts, you'll find a post where you called for Buzzsaw to be removed when it was only 4 years old) And you're very much entitled to share that opinion, just as we are entitled to share ours. The facts however make out differently, and you cannot change that either. Buzz is gone and clearly wasn't worth staying (or it would have). TOT is gone and clearly wasn't worth staying (or it would have). Gold Coaster on the other hand IS staying for a bit longer, and clearly WAS worth staying - so it did... #Peace
  17. I think a lot of people don't care. I can quote you Superman's G forces, but only because the queue video repeats it interminably. I don't care what the stats say, I want to ride a ride, it should be fun, enjoyable, and not something that I get off wondering how many visits i'm going to need at the chiropractors. Between @iwerks and @Tim Dasco you guys are the biggest proponents of AW - and you're both saying that it's better to ride it when the ride isn't hot - by riding at night or first thing in the morning - two times of day that are in short supply in a typical operating season (night events are special, infrequent and park opens at 10, so you're already approaching heat of day). Australia's operating environment is typically the 9-5 window. If the ride is going to be 'more shit' during that window... it's fair to say its shit. If I buy a solar panel, and the internal control hardware overheats at 20 degrees and shuts down, it's not a very effective solar panel for the Australian sun.
  18. I feel like you're not reading for understanding. The ride was not built for another park. A build slot was reserved for another park, which then withdrew. The slot became available, and Dreamworld was able to get a head start on the manufacturer's waitlist - jumping the queue, if you will. Build price comparisons aren't always a great tool. Even converting currency rates needs to be done with a mind of the time passed - but even without currency exchange, simply shipping the ride out to Aus, and building using Australia's labour union workforce increases the costs significantly more than transporting and building a similar attraction in Europe or North America.
  19. Yeah but shouldn't an 8 year old coaster be doing far better than a 20 year old second hand and 25 year old second train coaster? Judging by other's comments, it sounds like its a fault of the ride type. By comparison, Vekoma and Arrow seem to be holding up pretty well around the world for their age.
  20. As I understand it, the control systems were the reason for the closure. As one of the earlier builds, they were outdated and too costly to update. Newer SLCs had updated systems and neither plays well with the other. That's my understanding anyway. You are allowed to have a differing opinion, so apologies if my response have come across that way. You are definitely in the minority regarding buzz though - but I suppose if we all liked the same thing it'd be a pretty boring place. Fingers crossed you get your trip, and hopefully Magic Springs doesn't keep you from celebrating your 53rd milestone. (in other words, I hope you don't die).
