Ibisworld isn't exactly a spam site - they're quite reputable data sources. I'm not sure what motivation a bot would have to be posting a somewhat relevant statistics site, so i'm kinda inclined to lean toward the post being legit, if somewhat poorly phrased. The stats are mostly behind a paywall... heck maybe Ibis is a bit short of dough these days? Maybe it is spam after all.

Which is ok too - they've been coasting their success, jacking prices while delivering less across the board for some time and i've been screaming for people to vote with their wallets, and yet people still turn out in droves to feed at the trough. Finally, some fans are saying "i won't go this year because they haven't invested in the right stuff" and this might be the wakeup call that they need. I do think the park's marketing team have probably woefully under-marketed the new additions though. So it's a big double whammy, but ultimately it might be the turning point for them to realise people won't just queue up for the same crap...

As i've said before, my understanding is they're spending on in-park experiences instead of mazes this year and honestly it's been lacking a bit. Mazes make up around 30 minutes of your FN experience (if you ignore the queue times) so for an event that runs for multiple hours, there should be more to it than smoke and red lights everywhere. I'm painting very broad strokes and I know it's more involved than that, but they're trying something new with the event and time will tell whether it pays off. either way, other parts of the event will benefit from the concept and that will potentially last into the future whether the 'trial' works or not.

Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster Overhaul
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Spotty's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I'm not denying them being there. I expressed doubt to ogre's suggestion, and explained my reasons for doubting it. You replied that the camera could be moved. I responded that I don't think it should be moved and again explained why I felt they shouldn't be going there. That's all. I agree, the walls and doorway matches. After more info being posted I agree it's the most likely place (but just as a camera can move, so can a doorway or a sloped wall.) I still don't think its the best place for a set of show doors for the reasons i've already given (and I think the suggestion of doors in front of the lift, so you can't see it arrive, etc would be really cool too) - but i'm not a ride designer - just a person with an opinion.- 287 replies

Jaggs Journeys has posted photos of a new 'Horror Encounters' set up in main street. Might not be a new maze, but it's something different, no?
-
Bear in mind, it used to 'sell out' when everybody's $99 pass included one free entry. Fright nights is the one event that is NOT included in a OnePass, so people aren't going just because they have a ticket anymore. It still sells well though, so its popular, but not stupidly overcrowded because everyone gets a freebie.

Lol. Because of course you can tell how many people are visiting WWW as opposed to DW (or, *gasp* visiting both on the same day without all having to load back into the car and fight for a parking spot in the boonies and then walk all the way back to the gate) Well it sounds like 'the rest' aren't agreeing with you. Objection your honor, the question has been asked and answered. They're focusing on rebuilding their core business. The waterpark is not currently the priority, and i'm totally okay with that because WWW offers what I'm looking for out of a waterpark visit. WnW hasn't added anything to the park that's made me want to visit just to experience it since Constrictor (and that was a disappointment). I also enjoy not having to carry tubes up stairs. Thats far worse than having your daily weet-bix, IMO.

And you're not wrong about Calypso - it's just the rest of the park is just so damn big and spread out - I find WWW ok without the lazy river because the wavepool shallows are gentler, and you've also got wiggle bay for the younger kids which is a quieter space (WNW JR just feels noisy by comparison)

Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster Overhaul
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Spotty's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Sure - but I don't think it should be - its the perfect spot for it, it takes new riders unawares, the blades make people think they're going to hit them so they're a little afraid, and the car is tilted in a way that all riders are unobstructed for the camera. I also don't think the doors being in a high(er) speed place where there's no safety brake in case the doors fail to open is a good idea - if the doors fail, you either crash into the door or theres a new brake that results in a valley?- 287 replies

See you're trying to be funny but you're missing the entire point and just look ridiculous. I find the dry parks to be busy, hustle and bustle, trying to maximise as many rides as possible, standing in hot queues amongst sweaty people, high thrills and fast movement. When I go to a waterpark, the pace is slower. i'm not running from slide to slide and sprinting up the stairs. I'm not rope dropping anything - i'm getting inside the park, claiming a sunlounge or cabana, getting changed or otherwise ready to get wet. putting stuff in a locker if we need one. applying sunscreen, etc etc. There is no rush. no urgency to get in line for something. Many families that come to the coast for a theme park holiday view the waterpark as the relaxing day. Whether the kids treat it that way is another matter, but for all the reasons above, it is.

Now that there are pictures of the crates all over the internet, someone needs to go and spraypaint the logos over with black paint. It's the Movie World way. You're blinded by the camera flash at this point, and moving way too fast - i'm not so sure the new showdoors in the update are going to be in that particular spot just because its the same shape and colour.- 287 replies

WWW is seasonal, and they can't even get their existing slides operational for the opening of their season. They charge almost half what the Village group charges for a standard pass. (Discounted passes for locals, tiered passes with blackout dates or not including all properties make it a bit muddier to compare these, so i've used their top annual pass prices because they are the only ones that include like for like with all offerings included - heck Dreamworld's cheapest annual pass doesn't even include WWW entry) The last three additions to WWW - Wedgie, Fully 6 and Triple Vortex have been plagued with issues pretty much since opening - and the Wedgie remains SBNO despite them confirming it's been retired. It might be cheaper to buy slides than rides, but I just don't think they need to right now. Dreamworld is still seeing attendance lower than their competitors, and they're focus remains on their core theme park business. I actually prefer the offering at WWW and haven't been to WnW in a long time - its too spread out, too hot to walk around barefoot and overall is just too much work for a relaxing day - Biggest it may be, but IMO, best it isn't. I'm totally fine with WWW remaining in its current form while they figure out their problems in the dry park and get their shit together.

lol. we're going to call it a luge despite the fact it has little resemblance to a luge because we think people might not understand what an alpine coaster is...

I mean that's worlds away since that happened. A lot can change (has changed?) in almost 6 years. -
Top Golf Opening 15 June 2018
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
probably could have done with it's own topic - it's relevant enough. I know Village were originally contracted to develop the top golf business in other regional centres, but obviously a few things got in the way - good to see they haven't abandoned the idea altogether... (i'm making a big assumption its a village deal, but I can't see any reason why they wouldn't be behind it) Looks like the complex has a surf complex behind it too. -
Could Big Brother return to Dreamworld?
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to zacsta_1997's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I've gotten the impression that RobMac really has a bee in his bonnet about Dreamworld lately. Certainly entitled to his opinion but I can't say I agree with almost anything said lately. -
Yeah i'm with brad on most of his response. I did find Dinosaur's Express pass re-entry was quite set back and there was still a good 20-30 minute wait from the metal detector - but given the extreme lines BEFORE the lockers, it still skipped a huge amount of waiting. I think it could be better, but they do need to ensure there's enough of a buffer after the metal detectors so that the coaster isn't waiting for people to clear security. Its a tough thing to balance. But yeah public holidays in Japan are always days to avoid the parks. Many folk don't work mon-fri and tend to work regularly on the 'weekend'. kids also go to school on saturday, so when there is a holiday, it's a day for literally EVERYBODY to go to parks.

I'm being ridiculous to highlight a point. You yourself argued that beast was better because it was 3 metres taller. When confronted with an alternate reality where if King Claw was the same height as beast, and asked if that would make it good, you countered that Sky Flyer XXL was even taller. Implying that it still wouldn't make it good. I was simply inferring, by your own (irrational) logic - that since Beast was shorter than SkyFlyer XXL, that must mean Beast isn't good either. According to the technical data - the footprint is actually smaller, isn't it? You are correct. You never said it was bad. You bemoaned the amount of fanfare for something that isn't as high as the beast Argued they should've chosen Zamperla instead. Suggested that the priority was catering to fat people at the cost of providing a "premiere attraction that is unique" claimed all Australia's parks are embarassing - again arguing it's insane that 3 travelling rides are taller Chipped the park for an announcement made by the manufacturer Argued Dreamworld has no excuse to not build a bigger attraction Argued that even if King Claw was as tall as the beast (a bar you set) it still wouldn't be good because Booster Maxxx and Sky Flyer XXL are still taller Proceeded to shit on Claw on the basis that Doomsday was a lemon On the subject of manufacturer issues - remind me again why The Beast no longer appears in the Adelaide Show?
