  1. Yeah - Spongebob certainly suits blue track... but i'll rule out TMNT.
  2. Given Wavebreak island is isolated, and not home to anything protected, as well as the fact that South Stradbroke is by far a bigger sanctuary to maintain, i think it was a mistake not to consider developing Wavebreak. it would have balanced the traffic across the coast, instead of condensing it. Smith Street is bad enough as it is.
  3. I understand your point, but I don't think for a moment that Multiplex is interested in anything besides making money. If a new ride will bring them a ROI, I don't think they'd give a shit about being cordial with the neighbours who have shown time and again no interest in working with the park.
  4. They don't need it. Neighbours can whinge all they like, but provided LPS can satisfy the relevant authorities, development will go ahead regardless (and in spite) of the complaints of residents who have time and again been proven to have NO CASE.
  5. One thing that I hope is considered in extreme detail is traffic management - the road to the spit is HEAVILY congested during peak times - even in winter! Something will need to be done about increasing the vehicular traffic up Sea World Drive. Must take a look at the conditions attached to the development. If there's one thing i've learned - it's that council approval does not a development make - take this headline as an example "Waterpark for <insert various cities, regional areas etc here - such as Cairns, Sunshine Coast>" How many waterpark proposals have we seen greenlit but ultimately not go ahead? Trashy is your opinion. In todays age of modern architecture and facilities, I find it highly unlikely the casino would be 'trashy'... it has to be better than Jupiters at least. Then i'll point out places like Circus Circus Casino in Las Vegas - that have made at least an effort to combine theme park with casino... or Stratosphere... or Buffalo Bill's Desperado? Casinos aren't the "Robert DeNiro Mafioso" you might know from the film. They recognise that it is profitable to be family friendly, and that money can be made of family activities just as easily as it can from poker machines in smoke filled rooms. What casinos have you been to, that would lead you to conclude they are 'trashy' ? I've seen Casinos in Vegas, LA, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and in three Australian states \ territories. I don't think I could honestly say any of them would be considered 'trashy' (Although Canberra Casino was pretty crap). And just as easily - Mum and Dad can drop the kids at the gate for a day of rides while they go to the Casino and blow their retirement fund. lol... but yes - a Casino next to Sea World would probably result in mutually leveraged benefits to both attractions.
  6. I know it would mean extreme disturbance in the park for guests, but if they're going with Lazy River - they need to have it twist and wind its way through the existing park, so it can be used as a transport attraction rather than just a lazy river cordoned off in one corner of the park.
  7. I don't know - endless loops of vaguely related but 'bright' songs might have a negative effect #Wonderland
  8. I think land reclaimation wouldn't hurt - dredge some of the broadwater (it's pretty broad), establish some new channels... the area is mostly recreational usage rather than any sort of marine sanctuary... But i still think the wavebreak island development had the most potential - it would bring energy to the northern (southport) end of the GC, utilise previously unutilised land, and potentially bring in massive tourism when you consider the proposed cruise terminal that was to go with it. If the carparking issue becomes too great a problem, sea world may just have to think around it - perhaps a multideck carpark is the answer? If they built just a second level, it would double their current capacity... not to mention that the monorail could be given a new 'front gate' station inside the carpark which would also give the park another 'admission' point... Hell extend the damn thing and connect it to a Casino (hotel) entry point as well - link both resorts, and run it at night too.
  9. Whilst Buzzsaw opened with TV screens - I don't think they ever worked properly, did they?
  10. I think there's a glut of coasters for the size of the park at the moment. I really think MW needs other offerings that don't cost as much as a coaster - then perhaps they can install a few of them to bulk up their line-up a bit more to help with the park's capacity and longevity as a 'full day' park. There's a reason this site is PARKZ, and not just roller-coaster.com.au... much as they're the flagships - coasters do not a theme park make.
  11. It's a fairly easy assumption even without the staff member - friend - connection, but the park frequently tells their staff ahead of time when something is coming - those who have friends in the park usually find out on the sly, but usually specifics aren't shared (and rightly so given their employment contracts). MW is due for another attraction, with JDS settling in and GL being out of action, i'd say any new installs may have been accelerated a little specifically BECAUSE of the issues with GL. Only time will tell.
  12. Dude - you keep saying this shit and people keep calling you out on it being bullshit... Redline opened in December 2008. Here's a link to the original Redline construction thread, with the Dreamworld PR rep giving us the date: http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/topic/4440-dw-pr-new-v8-supercars-attraction-behind-the-scenes-blog/?do=findComment&comment=57054 Now - I proposed to my (now) wife ON cyclone in March 2012... and I have an ONRIDE photo to prove it. If it is your claim that they could be fixing a cable that was (and still is) damaged when Redline was added (in December 08) how do I have a Cyclone OnRide in March 2012???
  13. Well given that those 'circular objects' on the side aren't uniformly applied to the side, i'd say theres a bit to go on it yet...
  14. I know it isn't membership, but I got an email this week with MyFun's new price points for the parks - the old "3 park superpass" has been reimagined again - in 7 day tickets or 21 day tickets - for $84 or $89 respectively (I mean - for the price difference few would baulk at the extra $5 if they were on the coast longer than a week). Its an attractive alternative for holiday makers who aren't on the coast long - especially when compared to the now $108 pricepoint of the 'old' VIP pass with the new Memberships... the question is - is the pricepoint close enough that you might convince people to get membership so as to take advantage of the discounts etc - kind of how some people will buy a disney annual pass for one member to take advantage of that....? https://myfun.com.au/theme-parks-passes/buy-tickets
  15. I see your point, but doubt it will be a packed out busy time. Like the launch of Dreamworks at Dreamworld, the preview is likely to be out of hours, and likely on a weekday. I'm pretty sure Dreamworld DID limit the numbers of people who were invited, but I think say - a tuesday night during school term might limit the amount of people able to avail themselves of such an offer. it is good to see VRTP finally recognising the value of their loyal membership base, and offering more than a 'token' offering of 'exclusivity'.
  16. Arguments for licensing outlets within Sea World - from a guy whose avatar is beer in a sea world stein. Hard to argue with that!!!
  17. While we're at it - let's just close down Wild West Falls in Movie World? Anyone wanting to get wet can still do so at Wet N Wild. Dreamworld should follow this move - closing down the log flume, rapids, and flow rider, since guests can still get wet at WhiteWaterWorld. Or if you intend this only to relate to alcohol - then perhaps they should close the Dirty Harry Bar and Rick's Cafe - as guests can buy alcohol at Wet N Wild also. The park and the resort might be owned by the same company, but they are complimentary yet competing businesses. You may not see the value in the park offering an alcoholic beverage within the park boundaries - but no-one in their right mind is going to say 'i feel like a beer with my lunch - let's leave the park'... if you drive them to the resort for a drink with lunch - chances are they'll head elsewhere instead - where pricing is lower - such as the yacht club just down the road... or they won't order alcohol with their lunch. In the food and beverage industry - the food isn't where you make your money - its the beverage. So not offering attractive alcoholic options (which you can markup to the hilt) severely limits your income potential.
  18. yeah - that was kind of my thinking...
  19. I wonder though if the new trains are set up for blocks? I know the infrastructure is there on the track and control panel - so i doubt it would be hard, but I assume the logic programming would have been wiped and reset for the one new train, so might need some additional programming... can't be that hard!!! Correct me if i'm wrong - but weren't blue and red trains cannibalised for the new train? Or was the new train COMPLETELY new rolling stock?
  20. It's frustrating to find absolutely nothing as far as a stats sheet for the cloverleaf. its a trademarked product, yet you can't find anything on proslides website, other than that they use them on some of their slides. the korean company they manufacture them through doesn't even have them. I'm sure there'd be a patent somewhere - but even then i'm not sure it'd say what the limit was on it.
  21. I know this is a 'what you wish for' post, so there isn't any wrong answers i guess, but it's kinda like when you spend 4 hours meticulously designing the most awesomest far out coaster you've ever seen in RCT3, and then when you open it, nobody wants to ride it. I appreciate the ride-styles are already in operation in your suggestion, but they're in parks that have far more variety (and capacity) to be able to target a niche market to say 'ours is the ultimate'. I agree it'd be a great ride, but I don't think it should be done to GD. IMO. I've seen videos of another drop ride do this - i think it had 6 gondolas, and 3 of them had a 'top' brake fin - i think on the video i saw it was called a 'psych out' drop. I never knew GD had it though. You do love your monorail... Can we at least have air conditioning, an extended track, and maybe a few more stations? Wouldn't it be awesome if they could get clearance to run the monorail out onto the other side of the spit, so you could see the beach? Or maybe run it all the way up to the end of the spit to the seaway? #dreams.
  22. I know many people (who will ride pretty much anything else on the coast) who really hate GD as it is. it's a very polarising attraction. is it worth dumping that much to retrofit an attraction into something that may scare the bejeebus out of even more people and reduce it's rider base even further? *plus - if you had a different experience on both sides - that would force dreamworld to run both sides = not gunna happen.
  23. I'll be really disappointed if Cyclone is rethemed to V8s - but given its proximity to redline, and the speculated approvals that recently went through GCCC, i'll grant that it's possible. DW said previously (although not in the same breath) that the 'v8 attractions' were to be 'new'. they did also say a refresh\overhaul would happen on another major attraction this year. Perhaps instead of separate attractions they did mean the same thing... I'm sure Cyclone would work very well as a V8 attraction, with a new train (somebody please tell them to buy two and put in another set of block brakes! *wishful thinking*) - but they'll have to do something special with the queue house (lightbulb moment - spiral parking garages could fit the theme well)...
  24. Well that was short lived....http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/abc-shops-to-close-300-jobs-to-go/story-fnkgdftz-1227453388663 (Obviously this won't affect the ABC Shop in Dreamworld as it is staffed by DW staff, and paid for by DW... i was just making light of the fact that they announce the closure of all these stores only weeks after building one inside a theme park.)
