It must be said though that Lis's positives for the best maintained areas are those that were most recently installed (and therefore aren't showing a need for maintenance yet) such as the broader dreamworks installation, and the later Kung Fu Panda installation. Comparing that to the WB Kids area, which in some places has been around for 2 decades is a bit skewed. As a side note for 'loose items' boxes for free at all of the DW rides, arguably this is because each attraction only has a single train gondola carriage (and fairly poor capacity in busier periods). Arkham has the one train, and it has free loose items boxes, and even Green Lantern now permits loose items (not backpacks) to be left at the station. I'd rather pay $1 for a locker if some of Dreamworld's more popular thrill rides had multiple trains better capacity faster loading unloading cycle time.

I know this is a bit of a stretch, but this seems to imply either VRTP have acquired featherdale, or alternatively that it has at the least changed hands and is looking to change direction. Both parks are in close proximity, and Featherdale could very easily become the Paradise Country for Sydney as they look to expand... I've spent the last 25-30 minutes trying to find the link but it's hard without knowing the licensee. I saw a link posted on facebook yesterday in the response to this NYE disaster that showed WnWS had actually been granted their 'normal' operating liquor license. The closest i could get was the lodgment of the application 7 months ago - http://www.planningalerts.org.au/applications/318025 The licence check search function doesn't want to help me out though https://www.licence.nsw.gov.au/LicenceCheck/ SO short answer is i'm pretty sure WnWS have an active liquor licence, I think it was approved from 16 December from memory... my guess is (if liquor license is the problem) that they needed an event license to sellsupply at more stalls than the park had built approved originally. Theres a lot of finger pointing going on at the moment about who screwed up, but the promoter organiser at the end of the day is the one that has the responsibility. If Wet n Wild were the ones who pulled the plug, with the bad publicity they've had already, it would have to have been a pretty serious issue.

I think you're on the money Danaant. There is no reason to install anything else except for capacity reasons, which while being hit now, would need to be consistent for the rest of the season to warrant it. Bussy - there has been a lot of rhetoric that attractions have been closed because they did not have the staff to man them - eg - the lazy river. Not saying it's true, but it has been said a lot. Regarding the NYE Festival - HOLY SHIT... to get this close to the date and cancel? Thats a bit rough... going to be a lot of pissed off people who have no other plans for New Years Eve....

Sea World - work continues on Wild. Opening date pushed back to 2037. Wet n Wild - Park begins 'attraction swapping' like Six Flags. The GC gets a second constrictor from Sydney to handle demand, Sydney gets more polite locals from the GC to ease pressure on Gate Staff when the park hits capacity. Movie World - Work at last begins to install a coaster into the Western Show Stage. Dreamworld - Introduces a new paint colour called "cover up the dilapidated wood rot on all our 30 year old buildings that are lacking in good maintenance except for Dreamworks or we'll lose the licensing agreement purple" Aussie World will introduce another small, low budget, but still solid attraction that will see a continued increase in guest numbers, satisfaction, and interest from the enthusiast community. Clive palmer will try to buy it, and the entire upper balcony of the Ettamogah Pub will give him the finger. Adventure World will ride the wave of their massive 2013 installation, but may announce something a little smaller to fit with the currently empty wallet once their massive attendance increase has been accounted for in the till. Jamberoo will continue to plod along with their master plan, installing slides as planned for the past 7 years, completely oblivious to the 'at capacity' waterpark over an hour away. Pinksmile will find a way to gain access to the counterweight, and will chain himself to it in protest. Luna Park Sydney will consider building a permanent attraction behind coney island - will instead introduce 8 different flats for the year - only during school holidays. Luna Park Melbourne will introduce 2 new flats, and will announce the refurbishment of the entire Melbourne metropolitan area by Mack Rides. In broader waterpark news - VRTP will announce a Wet N Wild for every state and territory in Australia - including the Australian Antarctic Territory. All parks hit capacity in their first three months despite being labelled 'ripoffs' by locals. Ardent reduces WWW park capacity to 500 people. Hits capacity 4 times in January. As for the big 'two' corporations - VRTP continue to produce outstanding attractions and extremely good value for money with even more christmas and hallowe'en events, and a new 'christmas in july event'. Ardent announces passholders will now get free entry to SkyDeck all year round - attendance remains unchanged. In other news, Sea World applies to the Gold Coast City Council for a relaxation of height restrictions, so that they can make the 'no entry' gate next to the retail plaza even higher, WetnWild announces that fat people do in fact ride waterslides, releasing a fact sheet so that people know that other large guests have already been on it without embarassment, Movie World reduces it's height restrictions to the same limits placed by the manufacturers, in line with worldwide standards - and also removes unnecessary restraint redundancies and time consuming loading procedures. They also buy a second train for Arkham Asylum. Dreamworld hires scuba divers to repaint the captain sturt - which will be by then resting gently on the bottom of the murrisippi.

Just down the road from me, a large franchised car dealership opened up a new dealership. A few blocks away is an old abandoned car dealership that went out of business 8 years ago, that has been up for sale ever since. I doubt they'd take you seriously on anything. As for telling them it's worse - how? We all pointed out the safety issue that someone could hurt themselves... since they've been made aware of the hazard - they do ahead and rectify the hazard by increasing the height of the barriers so that nobody jumps the fence anymore... Putting poor spelling and grammar aside for a minute - VRTP was a very different beast in 2004. With the exception of the 3 anchor attractions on the gold coast, the expansions that VRTP have delved into have mostly been water parks - which are generally cheaper and lower risk. VRTP was not in a position to spend the money necessary to 'save wonderland'. Believe me - there wasn't much anyone could have done to save it. Wonderland was not the kind of park to take on - it was built sprawled out across much more land than was necessary. The park could have been condensed at least twice over without much bother. It also wasn't the right time to be operating a standalone theme park in western sydney. Despite all the other reasons for closure - the public reasons given by Stephen Galbraith were quite real effects on tourism including SARS Bird Swine Flu, Terrorism, and entering into a new business venture at that time was probably not the best investment opportunity. Doing the math though, a September-April season works out to be about an average of 3750 people per day... To hit that magic number with a december opening only increases it to around 5000 per day. With park capacity at 22,000 - around 4 times the amount required, and likely to hit that frequently for two months solid - they'll hit a million visitors before February. Naturally they won't hit capacity every day, but they'll meet attendance targets without an issue. My question is - how much land is around there if they wanted to build other parks in close proximity?

Fact #1 - most people think that the last thing they ate was what caused their illness. Fact #2 - in many of those cases, it wasn't, and it can take (sometimes) days for any food borne illness to take hold as your immune system delays the response. Regardless of where the development is now, the renderings were done back when it was a two-bit proposal by a development guy. From what I understand it has grown from that but nobody has updated the renderings yet. If they manage to get enough thrust to hover off the ground, i dare say they'd throw in a better plan and really begin working on it... I doubt we're going to see a 'wonderland' theme park, more of a citywalk downtown disney to start with to anchor it and get some revenue flowing, and then bringing on more attractions and infrastructure as time allows. The key now will be to leverage off WnW so they need to build somewhere within relatively close proximity to it.

In this season, Q4U will be invaluable at a park with such shitty capacity and operations. You should get through them all without too much issue. Considering how much SFMM charge for their platinum flash pass - $75 for DW isn't bad.

No worries. I'm not trying to say your view of Fantasmic is incorrect, just pointing out the error in your critique. You said the fact that the story was in Mickey's dream was never properly explained - I think the introduction makes it clear that what we're seeing is Mickey's dream imagination. The finale where Mickey overcomes the forces of evil is prefaced by him saying "you may think you're so powerful... but this is MY dream" (*boom) Also - the only other counter point i'd offer - is since when is a dream ever coherent or anything BUT abstract? I'd say it's intentionally abstract by design on the basis that it is inside a dream. When was the last time you had a dream which made perfect sense? I've seen Fantasmic only once - but filmed the whole thing. I have the soundtrack to it also, and on occasion listen to the entire 26 minute show on repeat, so i'm fairly familiar with the audio side of the storyline. Fantasmic is a show of good vs. evil - like pretty much EVERY bloody Disney product imaginable. Like most Disney things, it plays strongly on it's encouragement of your dreams or imagination - they are powerful and emotive words. I see the logic in that, but if that is the case, explain to me why they introduced 'buy 3 get one free' gold passes, and made the offer retrospective to include those who had already purchased 3 or 4? If that move was planned from the get-go, why make the offer retrospective? On a side note, i dislike posting rumors (*which at the moment this is) but I am seeking truth - an unofficial facebook page about the park posted that there was a near-drowning incident there yesterday - details i've read* are sketchy at best, but from what I can gather so far - a 2 year old was unattended not 'constantly' supervised in the wave pool and was taken from the water unconscious. Lifeguards on duty were able to resuscitate and she is currently at Westmead recovering. Additionally, the info suggests this is not the first "near-drown" since the park has been open. *the info comes from facebook comments, so we know thats 100% reliable (not), so don't shoot the messenger, i'm just repeating what was said. I don't claim that any of this is fact, i'm posting this to seek confirmation from others who may have better or more reliable information. (If anyone has anything to say about this - I ask that you refrain from aiming criticism at the park or the lifeguards, neither of which are babysitters or able to watch 22,000 people on their own, but should be congratulated on their quick action to revive the child. At the same time - feel free to aim any critique squarely on the shoulders of the parents who should never have let go of the childs hand whilst in the water)

The park's attendance numbers were propped up by busloads of asian tourists who came for the koala photo, australiana, and the leg stretch on the way to Katoomba at severely discounted rates for group bookings. Attendance was not a reflection of profitability for that park for some time.
