1. Wheres difference to their current business model, except that the rides wouldn't be installed permanently? EVERY attraction in that park is, to the best of my knowledge a travelling attraction... from wildmouse, to RNRR, Mozzie Musta to Dodgems. The park is nothing but travelling attractions in a permanent home. What's wrong with a couple more that change seasonally? I don't think that would make it any "cheaper" They tried that by installing a Disko... what happened? oh yeah - a major theme park with millions to blow one-upped them and stole their thunder. not abrasive, but remember everything here is just opinion... and everyone is entitled to their own.
2. Here's my suggestion to AW management - IGNORE THAT SUGGESTION. Whilst I have not been to the park since the Disk'o and the Flume construction began, THE most solid attraction in the park can be found inside that pink building. Sure, Rock N Roll Rebel isn't the best flat ride you've ever seen, but the efforts that they've gone to to make it more than just your run of the mill 'Tango Train' style attraction. In my opinion, it's the best (non recent?) addition to the park. Also, to get rid of one dark ride, that IS popular and fun, to build another isn't a good idea. Look at how many people have complained about the closures of LTRR and BA-TR. Look at how many suggestions people have made for dark rides at MW. The park could definitely use another dark ride, but it shouldn't replace an existing one to do so. Making a ride choice based on the "lucrative opportunity" to host what... 5 night time events a year for hallowe'en is also missing the mark. On that kind of budget, you'll be hard pressed getting much more than your standard travelling "ghost train" made out of sheet metal, banging its arse off every time a car goes through. Besides, the idea is flawed in another way... building the RnRR building up another story isn't possible - the structure isn't designed for it. It'd be cheaper to build a brand new structure TBH. Don't lose RnR Rebel... Something i'd suggest - get a decent size area... say minimum 50x50 metres... maybe 100x50... and have seasonal attractions during holiday periods... just like Luna Park Sydney... this gives something consistently different that will keep people coming back regularly to try out something new and doesn't cost the $2m that has been suggested to accomplish (a fraction of that to have the slabs prepared and powered). Of course, they would need to work out ticketing \ costing to the ride operators... perhaps allow the ride ops to charge a small fee, as well as offer a "higher grade" ticket that grants unlimited rides? Or simply do it the same way LPS does. Thats my management suggestions.
3. Nice update! they made some great headway since i was there on sunday!
4. Not sure if this has been discussed regarding this attraction - but if not, i do want to be that annoying technicality that says 'its not a drop, its an inversion'.
5. It's just such a shame Hard Rock failed. A lot of their ride concepts were 'firsts'. I saw a documentary on the building of the park and it really looked like it might make it, single concept or not. I agree with the 'asian' solution - Perth is a good destination for the asian market, much better than Sydney or Melbourne, although it isn't too different from Brisbane. Perth is also good when you consider that proximity to urban areas, transport hubs etc within the east coast is near on impossible when you talk about the land size they want. Finding that much land in a reasonably proximity to transport etc in Perth would be a lot easier.
6. i've noticed those signs too... at one point, standing in the SE queueline, i could see (without turning my head) not less than 8 of those "do not sit or swing..." signs. Doesn't really add much to the theme...
7. As you would well know Rappa, I didn't pay a one-day price, but I do hold a VIP gold. I did have others with me who bought a VIP pass to go yesterday, and may or may not go again before it expires. Regardless of how much I've spent at vrtp (and this debate has been done to death) it's those one-day ticket holders getting screwed. Besides - regardless of what the t&c's are on the VIP pass, you'd have absolute outrage if the park only offered 2 shows and 3 rides on any given day. Now before anyone gets defensive about their employer I wasn't whining about the temporary closures. I also understand the reasoning behind the permanent closures. I'm just disappointed that more hasn't been done to compensate. Now, sure - you can't organise a traveling flat within 24 hours (unless previously arranged with local operators) but ba-tr and lt-rr closures were planned well in advance. Most people can see the risk here if you've closed two major indoor all-weather attractions, and have only 5 other majors, 3 of which are seriously affected by storms, in the middle of the SE QLD storm season! Rappa, you know that I am, and always will be an advocate of the vrtp parks. I have friends who work there, I was merely voicing an opinion and lamenting the sorry state the park found itself in because of the weather and their previous decisions. And regardless of the uproar from fanboys on this board who think anything less than a b&m is unacceptable, yes, a rockwall, kiddie flat or bungee tramp would have been welcome, just for something else to see and do...
8. Three options: "Extended due to popular demand" "reduced price \ offering" eg: $69.95 until Xmas etc. "nothing until after the Xmas holidays" Or a possible combination of (1) and (3)
9. The only problem with making the lockers free is the cost to buy them in the first place, although I seem to remember a discussion here a few years ago when vrtp actually bought the lockers off the company that was supplying them. A "free for the first xx minutes" concept would be great, but I think the lockers need to pay for themselves first. If scooby is going to need a locker station, then let the revenue from the lockers pay for it. As for where the items go on scooby I'm not sure... Because of the other closures, scoobys queuehouse was chock full and we decided to pass on it... Did however see people enter with a backpack so not sure how strict they're getting. Rappa, I realize the closures yesterday may have been due to the weather to a large extent, and I wasn't criticizing this fact. I guess my Point was due to the closure of some others (ba-tr and ltrr) anyone paying full price to enter would feel very cheated. I also realize the parks would have good reason to close those two when they did but no effort has been made to provide alternatives to ease capacity... Even a bungee tramp, kiddee travelling flat, or portable rock climbing wall would have been welcome! Lastly, GL is looking great. Work was being done yesterday on the station pieces and accompanying platforms, the first drop remained as per the last update, with the first downhill curve and brake fin. I share rappa's sentiments on this one and can't wait to see it finished.
10. Well on the subject of closures, I'm at the park now... Batwing is down, lethal is down, superman running 1 train, scooby now has a no loose items sign out the front - no bags, sunglasses or hats... Wild west does look amazing after the refurb and the drop felt much faster, but with ba-tr and lt-rr closed, movieworld is very boring, and the queues that are open are extremely long.
11. OMG - Reanimated has become the new Gazza.... Is Reanimated being Gazza? Or is Gazza being Gazza? Or is Gazza being Reanimated? Confused... He isn't trying to troll you. He's trying to point out your hideously poor spelling and grammar.
12. Just got an email from Dreamworld inviting passholders to celebrate their birthday with a TV Commercial filming next wednesday...
13. Regardless, a great white shark isn't exactly a unique attraction. It's also not an animal that can "perform" like orcas and dolphins, so really it'd be like a fish tank in an office - ambience while watching it swim around, but it isn't a drawcard attraction that will see attendance spike at all...
14. decision makers take note: Rappa thinks ML installed into Wild West would fit perfectly, and be very cheap. I'm inclined to agree and I can see this resolving quite a few issues that have been raised previously: *Alleviating the boredom of enthusiasts waiting for the 'next attraction' *giving them something new to advertise (eg: not advertising scooby doo as new, 4 years down the track) *A great filler after a year of large expenditures *A good capacity, relieving queues at other attractions - they can easily increase capacity by increasing the theatre size *a show that can practically run 'all day long' *finally having a 'themed land' with more than one attraction *making use of space in the wild west area without pissing off the neighbours *small setup costs win-win-win-win-win! for those naysayers who argue it wouldn't have staying power, the theatre can also be multi-purpose. *with the addition of a roll down screen, the theatre can be another "out of hours" venue for corporate events *the projection can be modified from time to time, with little expense in the age of digital projectors. *rappa could probably do a lot of the technical design in house without needing to hire in expensive outside help (if his workload on the bazillion other projects allows) *see my previous argument re: police academy, BA-TR, and to add to it - Shrek 4d and LTRR.
15. the great white shark isn't exactly a unique attraction.
16. So that was one thing i was curious about and wasn't sure whether it had been asked and answered... the BS makes two revolutions? both in the same direction? It'd be interesting if it were capable of a "forwards, then backwards" cycle...
17. Batman Adventure - The Ride, and the Police Academy Stunt Show changed very little in their time in the park, and yet, were some of the most popular and loved attractions at the park for many years. Nothing says the show would need to be related to a movie to showcase movie magic, the western stunt shows in many movie related parks rarely relate to a specific movie, and they still pull it off well. And I wasn't specifically talking about a "movie magic special effects show" such as what used to be on the current site of superman escape, but a 'mystery lodge' type attraction, which by it's nature contains special effects, and therein lies the tie-in to the movie themed park.
18. That is for sure. There is a lot of space within MW to accommodate that type of attraction, it would soak up large numbers per hour, would showcase more "movie magic" effects, and wouldn't be subject to the same restrictions that the big-scream attractions do. Maybe fit it into an aboriginal theme?
19. It isn't exactly a ride - more of an attraction or show - but Mystery Lodge at KBF was one of the best experiences I had at KBF (in 1996)
20. I'm sure there are a few people on this forum who would dispute the term "fully" being used when describing the Demon.
21. i for one think it's very unlikely that a 'major park' is going to be in Aus. Sounds like it would be a great attraction though - theres a guy who is passionate about traditional dark rides....
22. I will say however that the shift away from some of the more "PG" community guidelines has improved this site immensely, and allowed the "others" to respond properly. If only Daniel were here... can you imagine? Who knows? Maybe a 'guest' will agree with the opinions, and join up to have their say? Otherwise, there are plenty of threads (well - at least 2) that don't contain shitfights... so they can always go there... A lot of the 'guests' to the site come here because they've googled the parks on the gold coast, and Parkz is 9/10 the top result on google for information. On topic - Movieworld. Hands down.
23. No - the SPIRIT... $5 shots at club blood anyone? lol.
24. I actually like the idea of a linked "precinct" but yes, diversity is still something needed in MW. I also want to take this opportunity to applaud Whitsy on a very sensible, intelligent comment. (but...) Please don't take this as picking, but with the addition of parentheses, the second sentence reads much clearer like this: With too many of the rides (of the very few that they have) themed after superheros... I say this only because i had to read it quite a few times before i understood that you meant "a majority of the rides in the park are themed after superheroes" instead of what my mind saw as "the very few that they have themed after superheroes"
