Hi Ally, With respect to your last comment about keeping it on the blog, this isn't directly related to RedLine, but it is to Dreamworld, and is kind of on topic here. I just wanted to ask whether we would continue to see you around the forums every once in a while. Its rare enough for us to have park employees, let alone those who ARE actually allowed to say something (at the right time, of course), and I was just thinking it would be great if you were able to stick around?

Steve Peet leaves Villiage Theme Parks
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to joz's topic in Theme Park Discussion
They did... several months in the future - where's Doc Brown when you need him? http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/index.php?s...amp;#entry56989 -
Yes but then it is not suitable for movie world - everything has a theme. Besides - without some form of theme, that would be viewed as "just another coaster" by most general public. Sure, we would know its a B&M, and an Aussie first, but who at those parks, other than the coaster nerds on here would recognise the difference between an intamin, a vekoma, a B&M, an S&S Power, and a Meisho (see how long for someone to guess where I got that from). POint is, majority of the general public would go "its a coaster" what type of coaster? "a steel one?" You gunna stick a coaster in Movie World - you gotta theme it properly. Imagine if Superman Escape did not have the sound stage around its first stage? You just left the station, and chugged along above the park walkways for 2-3 minutes before your launch? Or if it didn't have the headchopping cut through the corner of the building?

LOL... this is what I get for not re-reading before I post - I remembered the gunmetal, I didn't remember the speed. I didn't class TOT in the coasters. I know it IS, but I didn't think of it and lethal was the only grey coaster I could think of. Besides - the Tower isn't gunmetal grey.... A positive for one out of 500,000 people is not a positive.

Well it seems my post from yesterday IS back up and running - they've introduced moderation so the posts don't appear until approved by the mods. In case mine doesn't make it - here's the latest response. By the way - Parkz.com.au now has it's own little link in the blogroll. I think someone over there at dreamworld didn't give this as much thought as was needed, and they've now realised the danger of allowing us free reign to say what we want to say. Edit: sorry for the double post - lost track of posts already made - mods - merge pls?

Yes - Wonderland actually used this game concept in two locations - one in goldrush outside antique autos, and later on the old speedpitch building. I have seen the game concept work. Families that have kids that can't go on the big rides can go and play games while big brother rides the big ones, etc. Big prizes in a theme park are a status symbol, even if they are a pain in the butt to carry round for the rest of the day, and teen guys will play for hours to win something for their girl. They cost little to run, and the prizes are in fact quite cheap to buy also, and at the end of the day it is something else to do. WL prices were $2.00-$4.00 depending on the game, and prize on offer, and are quite reasonable, because at the end of the day, if you are good enough at it, you get something TANGIBLE to take home. "Experience" upcharges are not, in my opinion, worthwhile, because there is nothing TANGIBLE to take with you. Anyhow, I actually did bother to read the blog, including "Rob" 's latest response. This is my reply.

I'm on the pit crew. Kneel my son, he who dost worship thine VS commodore. Well, this is done mainly because of the years of superiority of the Chev engine, however, thats the way it should be. It's like having a race between a V8 and a Mack Truck. Put lowndes into the Mack, and put a 17 year old on his P's into the V8.... the V8 will win because the Mack just doesn't have a chance. Put all the cars on equal playing fields. Make them use the same fuels, the same tyres, and keep it the same under the bonnet, then it comes down to the skill of the person behind the wheel - and that is the X factor. It's not a problem, its the solution, which is why Lowndes has been so successful of late - He is the better driver, regardless of what piece of crap he chooses to drive. He should have stayed with holden, but - for those that remember, he left because the holden just weren't a challenge anymore - because he couldn't lose. -
I guess it just goes to show just how lame this new attraction really is. When I first posted, I did check out the V8 Supercars home page, and the news wasn't there at that time. The blog, while it has a great splash banner at the top, the logos at the bottom weren't even integrated into the background, and they couldn't even be bothered putting it on their main site. This attraction is shameful. Two years ago the Sydney Motor Show had two of these - one at the mitsubishi area, for Rally-Driving Lancers, and one at the Holden area for V8 Supercars, and BOTH were FREE (Ok you paid to get in - but you pay to get in at Dreamworld too.) Ally, apologies for my initial post, we get a lot of "fakers" here and sometimes we do get a little over-skeptical. Its great to have some dreamworld guys on the boards (where's our mention on the links page???) But it just seems like everyone on these boards knows precisely what dreamworld needs to do to get back on top, and it never happens! Warner Village constantly install, constantly update, everything is fresh, and the upcharges (if any) are unique attractions you can't find anywhere else. Dreamworld seems obsessed with upcharge attractions to squeeze the last dollar out of the guest. Now, I know that is the point, but you wouldn't need to get so much $ per guest if you just gave the public what they want - put a blockbuster attraction in there - never before seen in australia - bring back your record breakers and watch the people flock to the park. Where's the theming? V8 Racecars on ocean parade? MotoGP in the middle of the bush? Oil Rigs. Its great that everything has a theme - its just that they're not cohesive. Ally are you in a position to talk about dreamworld's direction? Or WHAT THEY WERE THINKING when they went down this path? And whats the PR budget for this new attraction? As far as I can see - they've given you guys a webhost and an internet connection - spread the word by the forums - thats just cheap. Dreamworld loses again.

Yup, rice burners really aren't my forte. I was curious over whether it was front or rear, as most burners are front, and wouldn't suit the stunt show, so I did google to find out, and the first ten results I got said rear.... so I went with it. You wanna talk V8's and i'm your guy. My brother in law races in the Fujitsu series, so I know a thing or two. -
It's also quite funny that we've heard nothing about this before now, that the website, while it sports a "dreamworld.com.au" address is very poorly put together. The logos on the bottom of the page are simply copy and pasted logos with white backgrounds, whereas the true dreamworld website integrates the logo well into the page design. The website also speaks of nothing about an attraction that is less than 30 days away, while it is spruiking the highlights of the NYE party coming to dreamworld which is more than 30 days away. The author has taken a lot of time to write the "factual" info on the page, however if this were dreamworld's "response" to the attractions being brought about by the other parks, they would be PLASTERING IT all over every media outlet possible to tag onto the popularity of the supercar fanbase, and drag some people away from Warner Village this christmas. Instead, we're launching a blog *huh?* Announcing it on november 14th via a FORUM POST *HUH?* and we've joined the membership specifically to make ONE POST at 4:30pm on a friday afternoon, saying the blog launches on monday? *with no mention on the official dreamworld site????* Hate to be the skeptic here guys, but if I didn't know any better, i'd say we'd gone back to March 31st here, and being set up for a well thought out, but poorly executed April Fools Day prank. Where's the media releases? Wheres the front page Web Ad? wheres the article in the local newspaper? Does Dreamworld only want the core membership of parkz to find out about it? Or is it a bunch of absolute CRAP? Of course, I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

Interesting that he seemed to know so much about the inside details of the park, although anyone could make it up and have most members believing it I suppose. Good stuff though Clint, For one, I would hate to lose all the employees we have on the boards, as they are a great source of "allowable" inside information, and second, great that we can maintain such a good relationship with WVTP management. I'd hate to see another episode of "pull down your pictures please"

I was going to say I am surprised we haven't talked about this one, but being it is in Germany, its unlikely many have heard of it yet. This bugger is going to be the fastest coaster on the planet. ring°racer is an S&S Power "Thrust Air Coaster" capable of acceleration to 134.8 MILES per hour in just 2.5 seconds, or 216KPH, more than twice as fast as superman escape. The compressed-air launch system comes from S&S's concept of drop towers called Space Shot, and the founder of S&S Power, Stan Checkett, came up with the concept to put the vertical propulsion system Horizontal. First announced in 2001, with the introduction of Hypersonic XLC at Paramount King's Dominion, with a top speed of 80mph in just 1.5 seconds, S&S Power have upped the ante with ring°racer by a further 68%. Construction is underway at Nürburg, Rhineland-Palatinate Germany, at the Nürburgring Park facility, where the new ring°racer will debut on June 11th, 2009. Well, for once google lets you down. Evo - Rear Wheel Drive Conversion Since we're talking about making "movies" nothing says they can't do the same conversion used for tokyo drift. -
Anyone who ever worked Utopia at Wonderland can back that up...

Yes but likely to be using the same IP range, as most users would run off the same ISP. If its a big one like Bigpond, you can't really be sure, and can really only narrow it down to a city (which won't help if it's gold coast like half the people here) but if its an obscure ISP that not many others use, it would be quite easy to pick it up. Of course you can't IP Ban them if its a dynamic IP, but you can at least compare them. So Admin \ Mods, while I don't particularly care for the debate about "is he or isn't he", to prevent the continued questioning and arguing, it might be helpful just to check which providers Wyn and Doc use. If they are completely different providers - problem solved. If they're both on the same ISP... then the debate continues... (And don't forget, when Doc first came on, we believed him to be different, even though we queried him at first, he started off with good language and grammar, and was quite polite.... so who knows? <That ends my rant on that one but I see no harm in checking the IP's and saying "i've checked and its not him"> Gazza, you just need to take a trip through the city at night to see how many 18 year old italians on P Plates are driving around in Evos with exhausts so large they can fit their egos in. I can't agree with that argument much. If they had licensing for the use of the theme of the arena, the mini's would be no problem. It would not come down to the filmmakers to license the use of the mini - that would come down to the manufacturer, so licensing isn't really going to be an issue, because you don't need permission to use a vehicle in a stunt show. Of course it helps if the manufacturer is a sponsor or partner because that means maintenance and repairs are quite cheap, but at the end of the day, if you're willing to foot the bill you could have whatever cars you wanted. My guess is they're using the Evo's because they are small, lightweight with a good power to weight ratio. They're also a rear wheel drive, which is a necessity for achieving drift and slide maneuvers. Not to mention if you put a good 24 inch exhaust on them, they sound like a hotrod. -
Ok well I guess we should split this into a new thread to talk about the new B&M Dive Machine that Movie World will replace Marvin with...
-
Yeah - and I tell you what, Wet N Wild already has a tornado, so they'd be absolutely stupid if they went out and bought a Sidewinder, installed it at WnW and called it Kamikaze.... This argument was already put forward in the Kamikaze thread, and at the end of the day, it is not an IDENTICAL experience, it offers similar experience, with different variety, and at the same time increasing capacity, so who cares?

Movie world/Lethal weapon construction
DaptoFunlandGuy replied to sonic123488's topic in Theme Park Discussion
In relation to the initial construction, The Sanderson Group has all the photos and info available, as they were the ones who did the majority of the facade work and landscaping. Lethal Weapon on the other hand, is not such a historic and monumental topic, and since built in 1996, when the internet was much less than it is now, is not something that warrants a feature in the first 3 pages of a google search, and therefore, musn't exist. -
Halloween Family Fun Night (Review - 30-10-08)

Roof looks good - although pretty cheap - a few bats, and a few cobwebs.... so much more they could have done with it... -
And the funny thing is that if the paralympian had contacted the park ahead of time, and spoken to their PR people, they probably would have escorted him around all day to a big fanfare of someone famous, and had a minder there with him to carry his limb up and down the stairs.... I mean any publicity is good publicity, but there would be some out there condemning DW's actions, no matter how "in the right" they are. The corporate Spin-Meisters should have jumped at the chance.
