Well, don't forget had the rights for Nick characters long before Nick Central. Can't remember the details, but I do seem to recall a "Rugrats in Paris" promotion at Dreamworld at the same time as a Blues Clues attraction a year or two before Nick Central opened. Even SW had Nick characters for a brief period (About 3 weeks if memory serves correctly) before Cartoon Beach. To expect a big attraction straight away is probably asking a bit much, as the park will probably want to get a feel for how popular the characters are. Having said that I do think something (and something major) should have been done by now. Goboi is spot on with his comments (again. Ever considered working in theme park management?) about Wonderland abusing the contract. Attracting people to a mediocre product isn't going to inspire them to come back for more when they eventually build something.

Richard - I'll have to dig up that old picture of the Flume Ride boats with 'Surfers Paradise' proudly branded across the front.
-
Its worth pointing out that in the parks history, it has claimed to be in 3 different suburbs (Surfers Paradise, Southport and Main Beach) so Southport is kinda correct. Main Beach (is that a suburb these days?) would probably be right, but stuff that gets sent to the park is sent to either Southport, Main Beach or Surfers, so take a pick which suburb you want to say its in.

Cheers Andy Sadly I didn't get to do anything after work. Didn't end up finishing 10.30pm. Going out tonight though so its all good.

.... and if you would like some killer (not literally. Well not often anyway) airtime when your flying, I'd recommend Air New Zealand, Air United and Easy Jet. Singapore Airlines really disappointed me with how little air time they provide. Actually, I like Singapore Airlines, the only airline I've flown with in recent times where the pilots didn't have some form of Parkinson's Disease.

Thanks Jaggie! Yeah, it was my birthday on the 23rd. I celebrated by working 10 hours

Don't worry Rabid, as we both knew (hehe) Dreamworld has extended the promotion through till the end of the Easter break, so all those lazy people still have the chance to see it without having to fight through the peak crowd.

I think you did the right thing by going by car. I don't care how safe plane travel is compared to going by car, but I hate flying. Something not fundamentally right about being 11km up & hurtling through the stratosphere at 900km/h. Doesn't matter how much you hate the family, going by car is the way to go. Plus as Flea said, much better to have a car then rely on the Gold Coast busses. Looking forward to reading the next chapter Andy! Off topic as well: How good is that feeling of getting up on one ski!? It took me ages to get up on one ski. Since I kept crashing when I was first started (and injuring myself in more ways then one can imagine) I found letting go just before that moment where you know you're about to crash made it less painful. After about an hour of doing that someone said "Why don't you just hang on?" and I got up no worries. You going to try a bit of Sky Ski/Air Chair action next Flea?

Hey, glad to hear you had a good day at SW Andy! I've seen SOS myself, and I really like it. The film may not have a narration, but as Richard said, what is on the screen is more effective then any words could be. Its a fun movie, has heaps of special effects squeezed in with an underlying environmental message (I think I'll have to start writing press releases soon ).

Apparently the park is going to use K'NEX to build their next coaster too. (Someone had to say it sooner or later)

If I'm not mistaken, Wonderland is home to rides, native Australian animals, a waterpark (easily the best in Sydney as sad as that is) shows and Marvel comic book characters. Maybe they could start there?
-
Well they don't promote themselves to incoming tourists, perhaps that could be why those people don't visit them?
-
Exactly mx5_boy. However, don't forget that in the early days of Seaworld, people said getting 1 million through the doors was an unrealistic dream and never going to happen. Now 4 separate parks in Australia can make the claim of dragging 1 million through the doors. As the old saying goes "Build it and they will come".

Tell you what, despite my constant DW bashing, I still enjoy spending a day there. I think last week when I was there I missed GD, TOT, Eureka and a whole bunch of other stuff, but still had a good time walking around. I do tend to be critical of the parks operations procedure, but otherwise its ok. To back up what everyone's saying about how our parks are better, a SFMMtrip report has been published on Westcoaster where the author talks about how good his day was. In it, he lists 2 or 3 (depending on how you look at it) closed rides, 1 train op on many rides and the like, while saying the park was in good form. You would've never heard the end of it if I'd done the trip report
-
Shut down the water park are you insane? It'll happen, but much to the detriment of the park. You should've heard the guests this year when the water park was closed (even during winter). Plus the water park has a huge capacity, which is all important in the summer months, and keeps bust for a hefty chunk of the day.

Dreamworld has some ok themeing elements scattered around the place. I was quite impressed with some of the new things which have been added the other day. Dreamworld also has 3 really cool rides TOT, Wipeout and GD. To say Dreamworld's theming is anything compared to MW's is a bit of a joke. MW's is a bit mismatched, but its quality. Dreamworld's theming is, for the most part, sparse, low quality (new additions and really old stuff excluded) and mismatched. Tell me why there are Dinosaurs in Thunder River? Or why there is this huge 'Oil Rig' in the middle of the Model T lane. Perhaps you could explain to me why there is modern walkways all over Rocky Hollow, or how you can find Big Brother crap plastered all over old world stuff? Why not let us all know what the theme for Tower of Terror is, and what the hell its doing in Rivertown? I could go on, but I think you get my drift. Nightshifter, what did you think of Marvin the Martian, the Special effects show, the Bat Attack and the street parade? How did you enjoy sitting down to eat that lovely food that is sold is Movieworld? What about Harry Potter/Matrix? Did you try Road Runner (kicks the crap out of reptar let me assure you) or the River ride? No to most or all of the above? Then you missed the point of going to a 'theme' park. Maybe you should go back and have a look at the whole park. If your not interested, go stand in the never moving queue for Cyclone.
-
I said what? Oh well, sounds like a cool idea anyway. The idea of an indoor crocodile enclosure does sound a touch weird though, unless that's part of the re-themeing?
-
If I had to define it, I'd call it a "Don't Walk Through". Like I say, wait for the photos or ya ganna be really disappointed.
-
Just wait for the pictures, then you'll see

That's right Ian, the mystery of the Cyclone cow has been solved! Great moment of personal satisfaction for me. Iron Henge looks pretty cool too. For those that don't know, its a multi-dollar attraction midway between Blue Lagoon and the Big Brother house. Its meant to be an updated stone henge, and is just as mysterious (just wait for the photos and you'll see what I mean!). The park is actually looking in quite good shape. New themeing elements litter the park, and the tomb raider section doesn't look nearly as bad as I thought. The only down side for today was GD only running one side causing 90 Min queues (or so the sign said) and Cyclone operating at a staggering 288 pph (is it popular enough to add a second train yet Dreamworld?). I would have hated to be a one off visitor, but as someone whose more then truly over the rides there, I thought the park was ok.

Ok guys, a six year old girl is in a critical condition and is fighting for life, can we stop turning this into a discussion about chippy being stupid? Every other post he's in has this information in it, and we don't need to clutter serious topics with that junk. Back on topic: The accident was supposedly caused when the girl put her feet up on the seat, and was thus unaffected by her restraints. The operator of the ride is believed to have called to the girl, then pushed the emergency stop button. Before the ride had finished, he'd noticed the girl lying underneath the ride. The ride appeared to be in normal working order, and is currently closed for the investergation.

The amusement park in question isn't an amusement park as such, but is a bunch of portable rides set up for the holidays. The rides consist of a scrambler, ferries wheel, dodgem cars and one or two others. The rides have been set up along the beach, opposite Broadbeach primary school, and are only open from around 7 till 10pm. This accident has surprised me quite a bit, because its the first piece of evidence I've come across to suggest people actually go on those rides.
