  1. Staggered holidays have been the norm for years, I always though it was to try and reduce the holiday road toll by staggering when people were doing their big road trips.
  2. I think it makes sense to get rid of it. Something to look at from the train. It's still not exactly a pretty ride, but it's way more interesting to look at than the wall so good call I say.
  3. Reading speculation that Six Flags might buy one of our parks and the Olympics will be good for attendance is like being in 1998 again. If I were to put a bet on it, my money would be on a private equity mob or Reunidos, with Merlin being an outside contender. Merlin and Reunidos have a presence in the country, and there was a bit of a bidding war over Village so maybe still interest out there.
  4. I think Westfeild Coomera is a bigger competitor to Village than DW is. The question is can they start being competition again. They answer is probably, but it'll cost.
  5. @New display name I can't speak for all investors, but I paid less for my Ardent shares than D&B are paying for just Main Event. At the very least you would think what's left will be stable for long enough to sell for a decent further profit.
  6. As a shareholder of Ardent leisure, its about time that my ongoing loyalty and unwavering support of that company be rewarded Actually a surprisingly good deal. I knew there was a lot of value to be unlocked in main event but holy cash cow that's alright. Leaving the company with cash on hand and no debts also gives them every chance to succeed. I doubt you'd see every cent going into DW, but even without it there is enough capital there to get 2 or 3 really good rides in quick succession which gets them much closer to that critical mass needed to actually see a meaningful recovery.
  7. See great example: yes it's something different, and I would suggest quite popular that lots would like to go on. It also has an actual capacity of like 90 an hour (you get a lot of time to work this out in 20min queue made up of 30 people). In a world where I get an unlimited budget, that ride absolutely gets removed.
  8. I'm not 100% sure, and not to be too topical but I'm pretty confident that all the GC parks have the exact same model of carousel But yeah I think with different presentation motion, a teacups ride is different enough from a demolition derby to work.
  9. Yeah but also nah. I think those rides are different enough in what matters (range of motion/style) and similar in what matters (broad appeal, capacity). Jellyfish Frenzy is an under rated ripper of an attraction, properly family friendly (its a kiddie ride, but legit fun for all ages so not too tame), capacity matches appeal pretty well (I would make the case for a bigger model but with attendance where it is, it's pretty much bang on). I can't imagine its the most popular, but I reckon it would be there abouts all the time. I would 100% approve of putting a ride in which is different but similar.
  10. Right well apparently issues with new slide is now not a factor to consider when deciding if a park is run well or not? Glad weve established that, and all it took was a comparison to DW.
  11. If your test is 'new slides closed = can't run a park' then the one you're simping for doesn't do well.
  12. I know you started typing this before I made my edits above, but ill counter by saying: The only tea cups on the Coast is the kiddie one at DW which no offence to DW - as much as I dont like them I think super small kiddie rides do have a place - that ride wouldn't look out of place at Westfeild. It's like saying no to a Ferris wheel because DW already have one. I think the next model up is a decent choice. Good capacity, broad appeal, good clean fun.
  13. Can't help but agree that some new flats are needed. There's not a huge amount of space in that area (surprisingly) but if you had all the money you'd have to remove all 3 of those rides that date back to the 90s and start again. A couple kiddie flat rides and a couple family flatrides would go a treat. EDIT: Havent done this in a while, but bored with a random 10mins so here's some free concepts: Sky race themed to Marvin the Martian Tea Cups themed to Granny/tweety. Barnyard themed to Tazzie Devil Midi Wave Swinger themed to all the rest. 'Looney' Swing decorated with all the racially sensitive characters in the back catalogue.
  14. Oh wasn't aimed at you that one @DaptoFunlandGuy 🙂
  15. All 3 parks have closed their carousels which sadly makes sense. They all look to be basically the same model.
  16. We going to talk about Fully 6 or nah?
  17. It just gets a bit tedious ya know? 'This is why things are a bit crap at MW right now' 'Grrr where was this sensible explanation with DW?'. Like far out things happen on their own, not just in the context of MW v DW. Both operators have pros and cons. Some pros are bigger than others and some cons are bigger than others. Everyone's shit stinks, that's the way it's always been and the way it always will be.
  18. Is this the reason nearly every post from you in the past whole lot of months has been slinging shit at MW? Butt hurt that people didn't make excuses for DW? FWIW the answer is DW was entirely self inflicted. MW is partially self inflicted, but not not even close to totally. Also as you've alluded to, they HAVE been spending money on stuff to keep the place running better while having a lot of cosmetic issues. Edit to say: FWIW I had a look at the DW maintenance thread. There was a notable lack of people who are very active in this thread losing their minds that DWs entire thrill ride collection was Claw, Gold Coaster and Pandamonium, so it certainly comes across to me that the commentary some members make is biased.
  19. Before: Because no one changed it/started a new thread Now: Because it annoys you.
  20. What? You think some bloke who would have never read the blog even if it did exist, posted what he's working on because there's no blog?
  21. Geez that's a pretty bleak closure board
  22. As it currently stands, you can buy a one park season pass to Dreamworld, but not WWW. That is not smart. WWW doesn't have a positive or a negative reputation, but all its branding is combined with a place that does. That is also not smart. I mean more in terms of identity. WnW despite the Village marketing still has its own identity seperate to MW and SW. WWW doesn't have this, and I think if they did it would help the situation out of sight. This is against every marketing play of the past decade where it's been 100% about passes, but I would love to see WWW go off school and push single day tickets at the start of next 'season' and price them at a reasonable level. Something like $50 a head. Remember it's not about a high day ticket price to push cheap passes, it's just about getting people through the door at all. Market the parks separately, open the park everyday from when they reopen, and do some 'adults at kids prices' and push the ever loving shit out of it. If you want to do a deal when you're there to upgrade to a DW year pass, so be it, but push the park that people will go to, and let them come without trying to get them to commit to a year of a park they don't want to go to. EDIT that seems more combative than I intended it to 🤔
  23. Yeah it would be purr insanity to go over $99. I do wish they'd make up their minds on wether WWW is a part of DW or not. I'd argue not as I think being lumped with DW is holding WWW back from being more successful
