  1. I get what your saying but I honestly don't think capacity would take a huge hit. The 35 metre Coaster Wheel has a capacity of 960 pph while funnily enough the 45 metre Coaster Wheel , with 8 more gondola's, only has a capacity of 1000 pph. Both have a limit of 6 people per gondola. I haven't found through put statistics for the Skylab Ferris Wheel , but I don't feel that overall capacity would be reduced by all that much, after taking unload and loading times.for the extra gondolas., I can see where the stationary gondolas would be much more appealing for young families but this would be tempered by the thrill factor of the swinging gondolas, which wold also have wide appeal and attract patrons to an attraction they might have otherwise missed. For mine, its a good mix of both. I haven't had the pleasure of riding this type of ride ( there are only 3 examples in the world plus Deano's Wonder Wheel at Coney Island). An installation of one of these would certainly make a huge impression in Australia- no matter where it was. I certainly do not think that LPS would get rid of their iconic Ferris Wheel, but if they did, I reckon an Intamin Coaster Wheel would be a winner.
  2. Has anyone checked out this small compact coaster called unimaginatively "Drifting Coaster". It certainly looks like a lot of fun and would certainly be a perfect installation option for our smaller parks- think both Luna Parks, Aussie World and Adventure World. It looks like quite a unique ride experience and it appears to have a good re-ride capability. Thoughts?
  3. You are right in that AlexB, however if you see the attached PDF from Intamin , you will see that the Coaster Wheel is offered in 2 different sizes- a 45 metre model with with 16 fixed gondolas and 8 mobile gondolas, and a 35 metre model with 8 mobile gondolas and 8 fixed gondolas. The 35 metre model is directly comparable to the current Skylab Ferris at LPS, which stands at 35 metres and has 24 fixed gondolas. Extremely well spotted GoGoBoy!! Your are exactly right- hopefully this means a new permanent ride for its replacement! At least the residents will be happy to see this particular ride go- it was the target of a noise complaint by several residents before the LPS Noise Amendment Act came into being- this is why the Moon Ranger has a white noise suppression box around its central motor. This was done in an effort to reduce the sound of the ride during operation. The Moon Ranger, whilst not everyone's cup of tea, is a classic ride in its own sense , and is not just "another trailer ride" This info is taken from Dave Burton's Amusement Ride Extravaganza and clearly illustrates why the Ranger is such a beloved ride around the world. I do not think that it is surprising that LPS is selling its Ranger. We know from previous interviews with the General Manager of LPS, that they are in the midst of a 5 year plan of rejuvenation. In this interview, they specifically mentioned that some of their current rides and attractions are , to coin a popular Parkz phrase, getting on in years. Tango and Flying Saucer are now gone and Ranger is up for sale. I would suggest that Tumble Bug ( a Huss Troika ) and Spider ( Huss Breakdance), both from the same era as the Ranger and the Flying Saucer, are on notice of disposal/replacement over the next few years. What is also interesting to note about this is that the Ranger is listed for only $99,000 , whereas on the same site, LPS's former Tango, is still listed for sale at $199,000. Either the Ranger listing is incorrect or the price could reflect the current condition of the ride. However, I would not have expected the Tango to attract that price as well, given its issues before its eventual removal. Fingers crossed for a quick solution to the Ranger- the park needs to ensure that the new attraction is just as iconic as what it is replacing. There are several questions now over how LPS will handle the Ranger's removal- will they announce its passing like the Tango's and allow patrons one more ride? The ride is currently listed as being under maintainance- will it even come back into operation? Time will tell but I cannot see anything happening before Christmas.
  4. Its an interesting decision. Its always an emotional situation when a much loved ,long lived ride goes to the big amusement park in the sky. I would like to ask Mark if Adventure World would consider replacing the ride with another similar ride from a different manufacturer? Pirate Ships are very common rides and any number of ride manufacturer has an example of a Pirate Ship in their line up. Would Adventure World follow the example of Luna park Sydney in replacing a much loved ride with a newer version? ( Ala the recent Tango train replacement?) In saying this, I feel that Adventure World need to replace this ride sooner rather than later, as it leaves a large hole in the dry rides options at the park. I am sure Mark will soon give us the finer details regarding the rides removal and its possible ( if any) replacements.
  5. Great pickup thanks for sharing this @Wil_i_am_not! As Yoshi has correctly pointed out, the Carousel is located further up to the right of the Light House. What you see in the right is the stairway access and the exit from the former Flying Saucer ride. I have been thinking that LPS should replace their large SkyLab Ferris wheel , which is getting on in years ( it has to be 30 plus years old ) with one of these!! A unique ride experience and a first for Australia and most importantly- a ride that the residents could not complain about!! Thoughts? Coaster_Wheel_web.pdf
  6. Have a gander at this awesome Scenic Railway in Spain!! Built in 1928, its one of only 7 pre-WW2 roller coasters with brakemen (like Melbourne's Luna Park's Scenic Railway, also known as 'side-friction') still operating in the world. The name translates as 'Swiss Mountain'. Thought this worth a share! Enjoy!
  7. Just an update on my previous info. Jamberoo Action Park have confirmed what we expected that the large end Tornado of the Perfect Storm will definitely be enclosed and will be subject to lights and special effects. @Jamberoo Fan this will certainly set this ride apart from The Funnel Web. I would not be surprised if all the Tornado's on this ride will be enclosed. Excellent news and fingers crossed that the effects include good quality audio and lighting effects as described by djrappa.
  8. I am no expert but I am sure that sound effects would be a distinct possibility.Someone like Joz or Rappa would be able to answer this definitively i am sure. Definitely strobe lighting to simulate lightning effects would be one thing to expect. Looking forward to this next February!! Does anyone know if the movements yet of this ride? Any updates on where we are at- has it started to go vertical?
  9. Jamberoo have confirmed that The Perfect Storm will have a mixture of closed and open Tornadoes on the ride and that enclosed theming will be utilised. Whilst they did not say that the large end Tornado would be enclosed, it is a fair bet that this would be a prime candidate for the special effects to differentiate it from the nearby Funnel Web. This is certainly good news and I am feeling a little better upon hearing it. The Perfect Storm needs this to have a point of difference and ride experience from The Funnel Web. One thing is certainly for sure, once The Perfect Storm is built, both it and The Funnel Web will be a very imposing sight when viewed from the road.
  10. Here is an interesting little Youtube clip with some very neat facts and statistics about the theme park industry. Enjoy!!
  11. Here you go @Jessicajealousy. This should interest you! https://youtu.be/XIOjwuYB5oA
  12. Yep that was the point I was making. Looking forward to further developments.
  13. Excellent- thanks for the info Theme Tendo!! This a great addition to this small park. I have never visited but it is certainly now on my radar to do so - it is definitely a family friendly park and my 2 young children will love it!! What is interesting is that the original Facebook post stated "few new attractions coming" It certainly looks like that there could be more announcements coming our way soon regarding new attractions.
  14. It will certainly be a popular addition to the park- of that there is no doubt. I agree wholeheartedly that the Behemoth bowl ending would have been a far better addition and would have rounded out the park significantly. However, if the plans include for all the Tornado's to be enclosed and include special effects, then I feel that this would certainly be enough to set this ride apart from the Funnel Web. Fingers crossed that this occurs! Its still good to see expansion happening and I will certainly be looking forward to riding this when I visit in February of next year. Looking at this new installation that is set to be installed at Funfields park in Victoria, I would certainly like to see a similar attraction come to Jamberoo, if only for the diversification of the presented rides.
  15. Ah!! Thanks for that Spotty. The ride was old when Aussie World bought it and I was under the illusion it was a Schwarzkopf for some reason. Cheers for clearing that up!
  16. Great find Pin142, thanks for the info. Well at least we now know the reason for the Octopus removal. As has been stated, this could have been a very nasty incident indeed and it was very lucky that it occurred at that time in the ride cycle. The Octopus was a venerable ride purchased from LPS, as stated in the article, in 2002. This ride dates backto the late 1970's and was a feature of the revamped park when it re-opened inthe 1980's incarnation. I believe that the ride manufacturer was a Schwarzkopf. The article also implies that the Octopus has been replaced, and given that there has been shipping containers seen onsite, we can expect an official announcement soon. I can certainly understand why Aussie World would want to keep this fairly quiet but their reaction and subsequent positive actions regarding this issue are to be commended.
  17. Not a big fan of this announcement to be honest. Its too gimmicky for mine, and I am a little cynical regarding the up charge element. Of course we wil have to wait and see, but soemhow I dont think that this will be a great success. My opinion, of course.
  18. Totally concur-It would be an absolute shame if it was to go if this report is true. Aussie World sure are very tight lipped about this.Given its rarity in the world, the uniqueness of the ride and its historical importance, surely there must be someway to keep it operating. LPS Wild Mouse unit is heritage listed and as such, they must maintain this ride to an accepted operating standard. If true, it must be something that is SEVERELY wrong for them to be contemplating removing it.Fingers crossed , hopefully we see the situation improves and Wild Mouse continues to operate, thrilling new generations to come. Aussie World is ripe for a new modern small to medium coaster. Plenty of possibilities out there.
  19. I did not think it was such a bad idea Tim. If Movieworld can have 6 major attractions themed to DC Superheroes in one guise or another , then adding another "dark theme" to Aussie world with only 3 other dark/spooky/horror themed attractions seems quite reasonable to me, more so as they are not interconnecting themes like DC. Looking forward to what you are going to produce for MI3 Mark. You are giving me more and more reason to bring the family and make the trip to Perth to visit your fine park. I absolutely love what you are doing in this space, your positiveness and your passion for the industry shines through. We need more people like you in Australia- more fan like than accountant driven. My 10 and 8 year old children are desperate to visit your park. It wont be next year ( There is a little jaunt to Florida planned then) but I can guarantee that 2018 will be the year. MI3 should be done and dusted ready for us to ride by then!
  20. Excellent news, thanks Wycen!! Obviously the shipping containers contain the ride to replace the Octopus which was removed earlier this year. This is the first that I have heard that they are looking at TWO attractions this year though. If Aussie World keeps on adding one or two new attractions like this every 18 months or so then it is going to be a very attractive option to visit for families. In my mind, Aussie World is just one major attraction away from stepping into a far bigger market than they currently place themselves in.IMHO. both Aussie World and Adventure World in Perth are the nation's number one parks to watch for growth in the future. Did your source mention anything about the type of attraction they are planning at all? Aussie World are a bit tight lipped at the moment, as you can imagine.

Don't forget to return and vote in every round to score more entries! Luna Park are preparing to launch the new Tango Train. No dates as of yet but advertising e-mails have been sent out. Look for an official announcement soon. These school holidays there is also a Ice Skating rink to tie in with the current Ice Age movie release. 2 good reasons to visit LPS with the family these school holidays.
  22. Do we have a reasonable idea on where this new coaster will be located in Movieworld? I love the idea of a Mack Spinning or launched coaster but would lean slightly more in the favour of an Intamin Mega-lite coaster.
  23. Thanks jjuttp. I am going over there in September of next year and was hoping it was going to be an option!! Not to worry there is plenty of other things to visit in Orlando and Florida!!
  24. Its a massive shame. For their size it actually looked like a decent coaster. I imagine it would be rough- Pinfari's are notorious for this- but for its footprint it seems to deliver a decent ride experience. This is a good POV showcasing the ride and that also some off-ride footage. A ride like this would be extremely welcome in some of our smaller parks- both Luna Park's and Aussie World being prime candidates. Hopefully the ensuing investigation is thorough and quickly finds the problem. Fingers crossed the accident was not borne from neglect on maintenance- the industry in the UK does not need a finding like that to have hang over its head, especially after the tragic accident on Smiler 12 months ago.
