  1. And I can guarantee, if (and hopefully never) a larger theme park has to close because of continued needless negative press, the media will be right there going: 'a sad day for theme parks and families' and 'loss of tourism dollars and jobs puts a strain on Gold Coast tourism' as if they weren't a contributing factor to eroding these theme parks' image in the public eye.
  2. Gotta love having my topic called dumb! Yay Parkz forum! Seriously I searched like half a dozen permutations of the title of this thread to look for something similar but I guess I missed the many posts like this before? Whatever, I'm drunk right now so if this is a seriously egregious forum topic than delete it, I was just trying to make conversation.
  3. God I hope they don't retire the Wipeout, it's easily my second favourite ride at Dreamworld. EDIT: Yes I know there's not much to suggest it will be retired, it just seems like it's taking an awful long time for it to come back online considering the others that have opened before it.
  4. Seeing as how there's a few discussions going on comparing specific coasters I thought it'd be interesting to see in what order the people here would rank the coasters of Australian theme parks from Best to Worst. (I did a quick search to see if there was a topic like this already and couldn't see one so forgive me if there is and I missed it.) My list is a bit lacking as I've not been to Seaworld since it got its two newest coasters, haven't ever been to Perth and my opinion on Arkham Asylum is based on the ride before it got the new restraints, however I'll amend the list once I visit Movie World later this year and ride it again. 1. Superman Escape 2. Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster 3. Green Lantern Coaster 4. Escape From Madagascar 5. Hot Wheels Sidewinder 6. Buzzsaw 7. Tower of Terror II 8. Road Runner Roller Coaster 9. Mick Doohan's Motocoaster Might do a list including now defunct coasters too, but it might be hard to reconcile such old memories with newer experiences, nostalgia tends to make things seem better than they actually were sometimes.
  5. I've never ridden Jet Rescue, but it wouldn't be hard to beat MDMC, few rides evoke such a feeling of 'meh' in addition to being wholly uncomfortable.
  6. Negativity sells, so does sensationalism, we have the unfortunate double edged sword of living in a country that's kind of uneventful in terms of 'bad things happening that make for interesting news' and so even the slightest thing 'going wrong' or in the case of ride stoppages 'going exactly as intended' will be considered newsworthy. I imagine in the US a ride stoppage wouldn't even be considered news given everything else that happens in a day.
  7. That would be an interesting idea, you could almost have the cars running along the footpath of the emptied trench of the Rapids, utilising the tunnels, etcetera. Although I have a feeling the footprint for the Rapids is a lot longer than Vintage Cars?
  8. If true perhaps they are just making them look nice for potential collectors to buy them?
  9. Maybe it'll be a B&M coaster! Just kidding, seems like there's more of a chance we'd get a Disney park in Australia than Sea World building a B&M coaster.
  10. Not sure why everyone thinks it's going to be themed to a DC hero, especially with that 'it's good to be bad' thing they released, and if the station/entrance to the ride is linked to the new area couldn't it make sense that the coaster will be villain themed. Harley Quinn or Joker themed coaster perhaps? We already have Superman and Green Lantern, plus a villain themed coaster could make for more colourful track/theming opportunities.
  11. I'd be up for a completely different theme for the area, like sci-fi or something equally unusual. Wouldn't be too hard to make Buzzsaw sci-fi, it's already pretty alien looking, plus they could change the Eureka Mountain into a crashed meteor or something!
  12. I would assume a new water attraction would be high on Dreamworld's list of next attractions, especially if the Log Ride is closing for good. My memories of hot Gold Coast summer's spent cooling down on the Log and Rapid Ride are undoubtedly shared by many considering how popular the rides are/were. It's just a matter of balancing when to announce a new water ride. Anything under 6 months would probably be seen as insensitive.
  13. Not a New Zealander though, just fond of that name, holds nostalgia for me despite its terrible product placement. Plus it was called that when I first rode it so it kinda sticks, just like how I still call Hot Wheels Sidewinder, Big Dipper after riding it 15 times during its final days at Luna Park.
  14. I do wonder what kind of park Seaworld wants to be, with the removal of Coca Cola Rollercoaster I don't see how they think they can compete as destination venue aside from people who want to see the animals. I haven't been to the park in about 10 years but nothing short of B&M coaster would bring me back, but then again maybe they're not catering to my ilk anymore.
  15. I was reading through some wikipedia articles on defunct Dreamworld rides as I tend to do from time to time, getting my nostalgia on when I noticed an interesting fact that I probably read before but forgot. Thunderbolt held the record for longest roller coaster in Australia, and despite it being long gone no coaster has ever beat its length. Got me thinking, and forgive me if it's been mentioned, I've read "most" of this post but could have missed it, what if any records will the new Movieworld coaster break? Obviously it's all conjecture at the moment but I could see it breaking that old record of 1,207m. Hopefully, anyway.
