  1. And here comes the resident village idiot... 1. How do you know what they did & didn't do in the maintenance period? 2. How do you know today's event was a foreseeable issue? How do you even know what today's issue is/was? 3. Given the above, how can you even begin to estimate downtime?
  2. Collapse? What a ridiculous choice of a word. Don't think anyone was playing it down, but when morons are saying the ride 'collapsed' you are gonna wait for more info
  3. Oh it will. Would have been about 6 camera crews there by the time I left, with more arriving. 2 helicopters overhead. No doubt IF the wheel did come off, the media will drag the parks maintenance program trough the mud
  4. Reports from various people now that they physically witnessed a wheel fall from the car
  5. Wondering why there was news helicopters hovering over there. Will head over and see what's happening Gold Coast Bulletin says a wheel came off? And 2 cars stuck with 14 people total Ok just arrived at MW About 10 ambulances here. 5 fire engines and heaps of police. First car struck about 5m up lift hill - 5 people still on being evac'd. They've been given nice umbrellas to hold, it's frikkin hot about 33 degrees. Second cart is on almost sideways, was in the sideways bank just after the first drop. Fire brigade cherry picker being used at to moment to get techs up who are looking at the bottom of the ride. 8 in Cart and looks like a very difficult Evac due to angle of the cart. No idea how to post photos on here from my mobile but will try later tonight when I get home from work Everyone now evac'd from first car on the lift hill. Given the angle and access, I don't see anyway they can Evac the people in the second cart. Think they're gonna have to get it moving to at last an upright position to have any chance. And that's it from me on the scene. Gotta get back to work! Haha
  6. I disagree, the removal of overhead/shoulder restraints on inverted coasters in favour of just lapbar style restraints such as on BS & GL is to give you that less assured and safe feeling. The more exposed or free you are, the naturally more fearful you are of falling out.
  7. Replace? Why would DW replace a 4 year old ride?
  8. Didn't think the BIG thing came in during Thunderbolts lifetime..
  9. Without doubt IF it re-opens they'll consider it part of the 'BIG' group. I'm surprised they didnt count TOT twice for its two incarnations
  10. Pretty fair assumption we won't see any BB this year
  11. The DW guy was up on stage on his own for an hour trying to keep people entertained. He didn't have many entertaining qualities so relied on the piece of paper he had which had a script on it for Screamworld & an Easter holiday animal thing
  12. Yeah it's changing back for the Screamworlds in April. Was announced in park today at Wiggles concert
  13. Can certainly relate to that. Hoping to take my little dude when he hits 6 or 7 which is the same age I was my first visit
  14. Agree with everyones sentiments here, and yes it certainly is a personal thing. For me, i would consider 'in time' Superman Escape to be a classic as it was the first of its kind coaster in Australia (launching coaster) and in terms of speed. It was also the first ride i remember being marketed well in the internet age with its own website that really got people talking and a buzz/viral campaign behind it. Personally with more thought i would probably include Snowy River Rampage as a classic ride, not because it was particularly unique, but because it holds such vivid memories for me and will always be the basis point for which i judge other 'tyre' based water rides.
  15. Unique, has character, lasting appeal, iconic. I guess you could answer it by saying, if tomorrow every theme park in Australia closed down, in 20 years time what rides would sprint to memory when thinking of your youth/past. For me, classic Australian rides would be: The Bush Beast, Boomerang, Bermuda, Looney Toons River Ride, and Thunderbolt. The only current rides that I'd consider to be 'classics' if still operational in 20 years would be Superman, TOT, Wild West Falls, Wipeout & at a stretch, Scooby
  16. All good ideas, the pit stop tyre change would never get off the ground due to health & safety. Lifting a wheel in itself could cause injury let alone the rattle gun. Unfortunately in today's world it just couldnt happen
  17. Well technically it could be the first. At this stage any idea of a revamped Mine ride is pure speculation.
  18. I'm taking a stab on April 1, when the gates will open, everyone will board, and then just before leaving the station they'll say "April Fools" and close the ride for another 2 months
  19. It would.. And no doubt the re-vamped mine ride would be one of the 'new' BIG attractions. But you wouldn't think there would be much change from $6m for the 2nd BIG attraction whatever that may be.
  20. $6m would not even cover 2 decent attractions, let alone all that.
  21. The Transformers ride at Universal cost about the same as every ride in MW costs combined. (Ok slight exaggeration).
  22. They have been renovating/updating their F&B offerings so it would make sense to look at the out dated ice-creamery next. $6m isn't a lot for 2 BIG attractions, but who knows.
  23. Haha. They should so play a looped track of screams through the maintain randomly throughout the day.
