  1. Three women left dangling from ferris wheel at Circular Quay APRIL 01, 2019 Three terrified women were left dangling near the top of a ferris wheel at Circular Quay yesterday after a carriage door was ripped off and crashed to the ground as it turned. The women could be heard screaming “we’re going to die” as they clung to the carriage, which was hanging at an angle after the door disappeared below them. Three terrified women were left dangling near the top of a ferris wheel at Circular Quay yesterday. The ferris wheel, which is part of Smith’s chips Spin To Win promotion, has been shut down while PepsiCo, which owns the Smith’s brand, investigates the incident. The mother of one of the women, Angie Kelly,” said the incident had left her daughter “very shaken”. “She thought ‘this is it, I’m going to die’,” Ms Kelly said. “She told me: ‘In my head I thought is this really it?’ ”. The three women were part of the marketing team promoting the brand’s Spin to Win competition. One of them was taken to hospital with a suspected crushed hand after the incident at lunchtime. Ms Kelly said: “She told me they got on to the carriage on the ferris wheel and something caught on the door and tore it off. It crashed to the ground when they were two from the top. “The carriage itself came away and lurched forward and two of them were flung on to the other girl because it was at an angle and dangling, swinging, with no door. They were on the floor and clinging to the other edge, screaming their heads off.” “They were dangling at the same height as passengers board cruise ships. It was a long way up.” The ferris wheel, which is part of Smith’s chips Spin To Win promotion “After Dream World wouldn’t you think corporate Australia would be paying attention to safety standards? Who is checking these machines? Who lets randoms put precious children on death machines? “How about if there had been younger children in there who had no idea what to do?” “Pepsico Smith’s Chips, a tragedy (was) averted today but do we need a mother to watch her child fall out of a Ferris wheel carriage before something is done to keep people safe at your events?” Emergency services went to Circular Quay at 12.40pm after reports of an incident on the ferris wheel. Police confirmed a woman had injured her hand when the door had come off. The mother says the ride had been open to the public for an hour before the incident happened, with three other young girls in another carriage. PepsiCo have responded with a statement today that reads: ‘A promotional team member’s arm was injured yesterday. She was treated and released from hospital. Safety is our top priority, and we deeply regret that this occurred. ‘Comprehensive safety checks were undertaken and usage permits were granted before the ferris wheel was operational. ‘The ferris wheel was immediately stopped when the incident occurred. ‘We are working closely with our supplier to understand how this happened. The ferris wheel will not be operational until both PepsiCo and the relevant authorities are completely satisfied it is safe.’
  2. Whilst I’m not interested in the semantics of dictionary definitions - it’s an extremely poorly planned and thought out idea. to tell people you’ll be broadcasting live from somewhere you have yet to receive permission to do so from is straight up dumb. To then get annoyed when your request is denied because a) you didn’t have prior permission and b) it contravenes the rules of the park, is just doubling down on dumb. to then record and post a video whinging about your poor planning and lack of forethough and somehow making that the parks fault, isn’t tripling down on dumb, it’s just flat out stupid. Lets leave “tantrum” aside, as I prefer “hissy fit”. "Hissy fit" used to describe an adult tantrum but now has become an equal opportunity description, young or old, male or female. What they all have in common is no matter how severe the (alleged) offense, there is always some wounded pride involved, and usually an audience of bystanders along with the culprit who allegedly triggered the hissy.
  3. Complete tantrum. if things don’t go your way or as planned, you suck it up and leave. Well, that’s what adults do. Fair enough if they said get f**ked and turned the hose on you, then have a whinge, but this public “I didn’t get my way wahhhh” just makes them look immature and if anything turns off other parks from giving them access in the future.
  4. But I have a coupon for a Buy 1 Get 1 Free Hypercoaster...
  5. You asked if anything has happened to the right... Right led to right wing politics which led to comparison between dreamworld and the government you started it.
  6. Haha, someone didn’t like my thread title and changed it...
  7. Haha. Was a pretty old movie by the time I was a kid but an Absolute classic.
  8. The fire shooting truck-boat I’ve heard about sounds fantastic. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on steroids.. Speaking of Chitty, if we had a forum Child Catcher we’d have far less rubbish. The Vulgarians were onto something
  9. And the government is paying for it! A STATE-of-the-art animal research centre will be built at one of the Gold Coast’s biggest theme parks. The State Government will this morning announce it will spend $2.7 million in partnership with Dreamworld to expand the park’s Corroboree and wildlife area. It will include the Dreamworld Future Lab, a “world-class’ facility which will be the state’s first native animal genome research facility. Baby Koalas at the Corroboree park at Dreamworld. Pic Jono Searle. Gold Coast-based Assistant Tourism Industry Development Minister Meaghan Scanlon said the new development was the latest step in diversifying the city’s economy. “It will allow us to deploy experts to tackle some of the biggest issues facing our native wildlife — like the threat of chlamydia on the local koala population,” she said. Picture: Jerad Williams “It will be the first of its kind in our state and will enhance the research capabilities of experts at the University of Queensland by allowing researchers and science undergraduates up-close contact with animals in the field. “Our native animals are a hit with tourists around the world, particularly Chinese visitors today’s announcement will help to keep the Gold Coast front-of-mind for prospective tourists.” A Bilby at Dreamworld. The 25-year-old Wipeout was decommissioned recently while the park launched it’s Sky Voyager virtual reality ride. (*cough* BULLSHIT *cough*) Once open, it will allow school groups and visits to get a first-hand look at research being performed. Tourism Minister Kate Jones said the project would be funded through the State Government’s Advance Queensland Connecting with Asia initiative. (AAP Image/Darren England) “When it’s complete, the Future Lab will be the only operational scientific laboratory in Queensland that will have the practical capability to create a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) tourism experience visitors based on the conservation of koalas and other wildlife,” she said. “The Dreamworld Future Lab will give our experts vital access to native species and will help to build on Queensland’s world-leading reputation for science and technology.” Dreamworld’s General Manager Life Sciences, Al Mucci said he believed the development would be a “world-first” by allowing the public to see the researchers working on current wildlife conservation projects.
  10. Yeah I don’t think it will be particularly similar to SV. Guess it depends what you categorise as “similar”.
  11. So I take it the front seats will be empty... who needs a ride express when 90% of rides are walk on and the rest are 10min waits
  12. There will be a new attraction this year, but the big signature investment will open late 2020. vikings Won’t return and I’d expect within about 12 months there will be no traces of it left
  13. I’d recommend that you can’t be a contributing member until you no longer have to be in bed by 8 on school nights...
  14. There is no rumour of BB returning at all. Not a single whisper. The only mention of it was a April Fool Joke almost one year ago that too many people bought into because they don’t own a calendar
  15. Good ideas, but you’re looking at probably a $200m+ investment (not to mention paying hundreds of staff not to work while you close the park for 6 months - if they are FT or PT you still have to pay them, and you’ve got no income). At that cost they may as well bulldoze half the place and start again.. unfortunately no one in the world would consider dropping that much money into a park struggling to pull in a couple of thousand people a day.
  16. Mould on attractions? Which attractions are growing mould on them? They can’t even get the mechanical side right in terms of maintenance at the moment, and you want cosmetic restorations?
  17. Because they have another business, Main Event, that has strong expansion plans so the money they do have is being Invested in the profitable arm of their business that has the biggest returns and most potential. Ardent is a publicly listed company, shareholders don’t tend to react kindly to “well if we blow tens of millions of dollars and it doesn’t work, it will be all good we have a plan b”
  18. If I had the money to buy Dreamworld from Ardent, I would do the exact same thing anyone interested in buying Dreamworld from Ardent would do - level it, develop and sell the land for probably near on half a billion dollars (if not more)...
  19. The clearing now isn’t for the 2020 ride. The clearing now isn’t for a ride Bet he said it would be super exciting haha
  20. 1. Because it is cost prohibitive and surrounded by other attractions making it hard to do whilst the park is open. 2. Because it’s permanently closed
  21. I don’t know what “it” is, but there is a new attraction going in for late 2019. Not a ride. Only word I’ve heard used to describe it is “a dome”. Totally helpful hey..
  22. Seems shaded areas are in vogue... SW currrently doing early ground work for installing a shade structure over The Reef.
