  1. Okay I'm starting to notice on ongoing trend in a lot of these treads which really isn't doing a lot for the forums... I'm tending to see that someone makes a point, Paul then adds a post that doesn't say much, Alex adds a comment on that, and then either Paul or everyone goes nuts about it. I don't know if its just a case of certain people feel to need to add a post to every topic or what it is but can't we all just calm down a bit and try and stop this stupid circle that many of these threads seem to be decending into. I don't mean to sound all high and mighty and be the mother here but perhaps if Paul you could just think a little bit more before you post and Alex just try not to go offending everyone as some how your posts seem to...
  2. Interesting point there Thunder... Only problem is if they've budgeted around the sets from the movie (which one can only assume are going to be cheaper to incorporate than building from scratch) then it may not be financialy possible to do it another way. Then again I don't know the costs associated with modifying the movie sets to make them last in a permanant situation. For those that don't know, movie sets are usually built very 'cheap and nasty' and although they look great on film up close are actualy very slaped together and aren't built to last.
  3. I think most things have been summed up but I will throw something else out there for you all to ponder... Much of the scenic element is supposed to be coming from the Superman movie sets. This being the case the opening and progress of this part of construction is kind of dictated by teh progress of filming. If the movie gets delayed the ride will have to wait for the sets. The need for the ride to open on time is pretty insignificant when compared to a major motion picture. Technical problems in terms of the ride systems should be fairly minimal when compared with it's big brothers. Look at rides like Rita and Storm Runner, the smaller rockets open with minimal fuss because they are all on the Xcelerator scale where the technology is pretty solid now.
  4. Okay I don't know if I'm a bit slow or what but I only really looked at this park for the first time today... Does anyone else thing its a bit of a joke that this park is pretty new (open 2002) and is massive and packed with attractions when compared with our park which has been open 10 years now? Just look at its Western section which has several MAJOR rides where as we have 1... seriously think we have the poor end of the stick here Never really seen this park before and just think that that is the potential that our park has to be, just a shame they have it already. Same sort of goes for the German version although that is a bit different. Madrid certainly looks cool.
  5. Hey Alex you make a very good point there and illustrate it well. It is certainly a line that has to be drawn between this kind of legitimate claim (as you explained) and the rediculous claims of "I stood on a twig and it cut my foot so now I'm suiing you." (don't laugh that is a real case from Jambaroo) Unfortunately in recent years this is where our legal system has been failing us IMO.
  6. I actually don't think there would be a problem with you posting them to a forum thread. That is very different from a gallery on the site. I doubt attaching them to a post is violating the parks request as it is just sharing some personal photos amongst effectively a group of 'friends.' Richard??
  7. I should point out my last post in regards to public liability was COMPLETELEY SARCASTIC! I am 100% against these stupid arse laws allowing people to sue and can only wish the greatest of misfortune upon all the lawers and legal professionals encouraging and profiting from this practice. ITS A JOKE!! Yes whilst they can have that nice little statement on the back of their ticket it really doesn't mean jack unfortunately. Just like the 'we take no responsibility' signs. Sad but true.
  8. Yes as sad as it is that post is all too true. Just one of the fantastic gifts Americans have given us. Why be resposible for your own stupid actions when you can just SUE someone else HORRAAY! And people wonder why smaller parks (like those at Port Macquarie) are closing their doors after all these years.
  9. Well when it is your site and your standing and relationship with the park that is at stake then you can make that judgement call. Unfortunately you do now own these sites so the decision is really up to those that do. You should also bear in mind that some key members of both this site and others are actualy emplpyed by WVTP so it would not really be in their best interests to go actively trying to p|ss them off now would it?
  10. Well I think probably the only person who can really comment acurately here is Joz given he has actualy in the position of going from foods to attractions... Then again Rabid beats you all because as a photographer he is 100% face to face all day every day
  11. I actually disagree... Keeping the ride closed unnecessarily is only going to serve to make a bigger deal out of the incident. Yes it is tragic that the child died but at the end of the day it was not the fault of a problem with the ride. If the ride was to stay close it would appear that the ride was at fault and reduce the publics faith in the safety of the park, that is something no operator ever wants...
  12. It is obvious to anyone reading this thread with an objective point of view that Alex is right here. NO I didn't work at WL but I have spent a fair amount of time at parks in my life and I am by no means a stupid man... He is not saying that Ops don't talk to guests he is saying it does not make up as higher percentage of their job as it does for game attendants. Yes when you have to talk out the front of a closed attraction this would change but that was not your job all day every day. Checking restraints is also A LOT different to convincing punters to come and give you money and play... Why is it that ex WL employees are so bloody touchy about their jobs?
  13. Huss that is a STUPID thing to say. That child died as a result of the forces of the ride (and because his MORON parent put him on the ride) and not because of any sort of structural or mechanical failure. Have an argument on the topic sure but don't use silly comments to prove your point.
  14. If you're stuck for land get your hands on Space Probe. It was a bit of a worry at WL but sure beats the Blue Flash as a back yard ride
  15. Glad you posted Richard... Was just about to say that I think it's funny that members insist on informing others what this site is 'supossed' to be about. I would have though that given this is YOUR site YOU would be the only one in a position to make such comments
  16. Hi Skypark Sorry for that harsh reply, rest assured that is not the opinion of all the forum members. I would just like to say that even if you don't receive any direct interest from this thread I certainly apreciate you posting if nothing more than to give us people a heads up as to what is happening in the industry. It's active participation like this from park operators and employees that really add to the forums in a big way. All the best with your sale.
  17. Hopefully the Rabid one will be able to get some pics for us all soon.
  18. Yeah like I said, doing something cost effective is fine. It's doing it half arsed I have an issue with. When the public can notice, that's when its not asseptable I hear you Bus. Perfect example today, sugestion was made at work to replace all the fans in our dimmer racks (cost about 500 bucks for 30 units). Mgmt deamed that a waste... so today a one catches on fire... quite possibly 2.5grand down for a new rack. 500 bucks of fans not so bad now hey
  19. Well first of all anything that involved a Mac 2000 doesnt mean your doing a good job because for the record I hate those friken things but anyhow... Just because I'm using a profile as opossed to a mover doesn't mean it's going to look bad. And no there is NOTHING wrong with turning a bearing over if its fine to do so and it extends the service life. Don't get me wrong, I'm saying things should be done GOOD, not expensive... I wasn't specifically talking about Mechanical Maintenance, more just park upkeep in general.
  20. No Zordy is right... a digital singnal can only be comprised of binary (on and off OR true and false OR yes and no) data there is no in between like with analogue. Man this is a thread about maintenance on a roller coaster forum and we are arguing over what method of electrical signal best describes the relationship of a rubber band breaking which is being used as an analogy for a bearing failing... do we see a problem here?? I hate to use the word but the one I'm thinking of has an N an E a R and a D in it
  21. Not saying it's all their fault just that the upkeep in general at the park was crap and that is a very important thing. That is one of the biggest differences you can notice between say DW and SW is the level of upkeep. I know you can't do a job if you're not given the money or parts but I have a simple rule in my work. If I can't do it right, I won't do it. I would sooner go without the work than do a dodgy job, if everyone had that attitude we would all be living in a much nicer place.
  22. No one said you said anything about your illness. What was said is it wasn't apropriate to make jokes about someone with cancer. It's got nothing to do with being a fan, its got to do with decent common decency to fellow people. WELL AGAIN? EXCUSE ME?? What do you think, you get cancer, you pop on down to the hospital and 3 days later your back jumping around dancing away??? WOW
  23. If only maint. at Wonderland put as much effort into their work when they were at the park as they do in posting maybe the park wouldn't have been so poor. Sorry to be harsh but IMO the maint. at WL was 'band aid' at best.
  24. Okay first... wow Alex you better get your facts straight cause 90mins is SOOO MUCH better than 2 hours lol Second no one in the public really gives a toss whether it's a mad mouse or a galaxy or a wild mouse or called taipan or anything... Mad mouse is close enough for the public to know what they are talking about. Third if they say it was a hat, it was probably likely a hat, they have been known to jam up coasters. and Finaly Alex's comment was actualy 'looks like WL operations got a job at Melbourne' you are confirming that as fact so why are you saying he doesn't know anything? Geeze people, lighten the hell up and try and at least be civil to one and other.
  25. I have to agree that this is one of my favourite flat rides and it is something I do actually miss from wonderland. Even now as an adult I still don't really understand how all the mechanics of that central hub works and would love to see it pictured and explained in detail. The counter rotating gears, hydralic lifts and all the rings contained under that top cap certainly make for some interesting mechanics to watch.
