  1. WOW be careful what you say buddy. Many people who have very high paying jobs with a lot of responsibility and interesting work don't work within that window of time. How arrogant did you just come across then? Actually I'd go so far as to say insulting. MOST theme park work happens outside of hours, Disneyland mainetenance operates 24 hours. The regualr maintenance shift at a park just down the road doesn't finish till much later than your 9pm time. Sure ask questions, but to be honest the question you asked was a real stupid one when you think about it, given all the work that is required to keep a park running that can't happen when it's open. Don't go mouthing off to Gazza when you're going to throw comments around like those quoted above.
  2. I just want to point out a couple of things... Firstly NEVER trust what you hear from a Ride operator. The ones that do know what is going on are too smart than to risk their job telling guests. The ones that don't know often love to play 'expert' and feed you a bunch of bull. For starters Looney Tunes is one of the most realiable and least expensive to maintain rides in teh park. As for guest complaints... WHAT BS, how can they complain about something they don't even know is happening?? Second, has anyone said they are removing the ride to replace it with a warehouse for storage and off limits to guests? No?? Has anyone said they are putting in a 600 foot tall drop tower with a 5'6" heigh restriction? No?? Years ago I went to Sea World and was very sad to see the mine ride was closed. On my next visit this new ride Bermuda Triangle was open and was the greatest thing I'd ever seen. Same for Gremlins and Scooby. This is nothing new, the parks have been replacing attractions since before Movieworld was even built. The park isn't run by a bunch of thrill junkie hacks that don't know what they are doing. Of course they will replace the ride with something that appeals to all ages. And I've got no doubts that in 6, 9 12 months time or whatever it is you will all be on here posting how awesome the new XXXX ride at movieworld is and how they have once again outclassed dream world on innovation and theming. Yes it's sad, I used to ride this as a kid, but its not like when wonderland closed. But times change, markets change and what people want changes. In todays video game driven market how many kids want to sit on a quiet dark ride being shouted at by cartoons they don't even know? And for the little ones that parents take on the ride, will they be just as happy to see a colourful parade and ride Sam's Train or the Tweets Cages? It's very easy to come on here and bitch about something just because it's closing but how many times have you all ridden the river ride in the past 12 months? The alternative is to leave everything exactly as it is and change the sign out the front of the park to DREAMWORLD SOUTH.
  3. I think it's pretty fair to say and obvious that Main Street is currently getting a bit of a spruce up since all the lighting was removed. This obviously can't be completed in one night and I'd sooner see a few out of place panels than the whole thing under scaffold. As for looney tunes, look at the recent capital projects, if we get anything close to castaway bay it should be pretty awesome. Don't really understand the 'current views of management' comments when all capital expenditure we've seen lately has been pretty awesome.
  4. I wish someone had footage of the western action show and the maverick show, I am yet to find ANY footage of these. As for the gremlins video, yet another pet peve of mine, people who CAN'T film. Why is this camera always pointed at the roof and zooming on stupid stuff. Seriously why do people have such a hard time using a video camera?
  5. No Alex, you pretty much said that he was just as much at fault, so don't back track and now kind of suggest otherwise. We're assuming he is telling the truth, and will continue to do so. Therefore just the staff member scanning the ticket is enough in the wrong, if there were 5 people and 6 tickets then that's it. There's still no excuse to be rude no matter what, and you can't assume all guests are scamming you. Again this isn't a coles store in a high crime rate area, it's a family fun destination in a rural area, you just can't afford to have this type of poor customer service. End of story. And all businesses, yes ALL, that don't have this customer first business philosphy are in the wrong, it's not open for debate. Look at the businesses that are sucessful and it's clear. If you're in the service business, then give service!
  6. Whilst I agree, and if this was buying items from a grocery store, etc I'd completely agree, I kind of disagree also. Firstly, the customer is always right, at VRTP properties if a customer makes a mistake, no matter how stupid, it is fixed for them, with a smile, because that small free ticket is more than compensated by the good will it generates. Secondly, the last thing you should have to do when visiting a theme park is worry about the staff doing their job right, you're there with a family of excited children to deal with, about to have a good time, doing math and second guessing staff shouldn't need to be on your mind. The park could easily see they screwed up, it was this guys fault he paid for the tickets, but everything else is 100% on the park. They 'used' the ticket, they were completely aware, yet did nothing. I'm pretty sure dept. of fair trading would have something to say about this too. It's like saying the ride operator failed to lock the restraint, the ride manufacturer didn't put an interlock in place, but because I the rider didn't notice and then fell out of the roller coaster it's my fault... it's just the same. Customer is always right in a service industry business.
  7. Oh now I think I know who you're talking about too... that is sad.
  8. I did say favourite, not best Whilst it is my favourite, just because it's so different they definately do have BETTER coasters. I would say nemesis, Tatsu, the Dragons and Batman all kick ass. I still can't get past loving the "YOU STAND UP??!!!" factor though.
  9. Oh that excites me greatly, whilst scaring me that it's a Ocean Park Can't wait to go back now! B&M Stand Up still my favourite coaster design by far.
  10. There is a red train and a blue train. One is on the track and the other is undergoing the required maintenance.
  11. Can you see a movie without paying DW admission?
  12. I don't think the complaints about the lines and crowding are particularly valid (fairly comparable to what the Gold Coast parks are current experiencing) BUT the comments on the poor customer service definitely are! If I was the original poster I would be sending this in to the papers to see if they run with the story, I would also by trying to contact the Eddy (forgive my spelling) family directly as that sort of thing is just not on! This sort of customer service would never fly at the Village Roadshow parks.
  13. Oh wow yeah both the roof and the stage look SHIT! Can't comprehend what they are thinking over there.
  14. Looks to me someone thought the key to MW success is the addition of a roof so they thought they'd better get one too. Only problem is that one is pointless, adds nothing to the park and looks really ugly.
  15. Don't know just how EASILY it could be added, what's being described isn't as simple as premium seating and other enhanced AUDIENCE offers...
  16. Its just a themed parade for the Summer Holiday period. The park is building a large stock of floats which allows them to vary the parade and provide dfferent offerings. This keeps things interesting and encourages all those VIP pass holders to keep coming back.
  17. ^ I would have to say that you are in the minority in your opinion among those that actually attended the event.
  18. Looks like Dreamworld have invested in new projectors and D Cinema/Real D technology so they can play cinema release titles.
  19. Given Dream Worlds relatively small size IMAX (when compared to say Sydney) I would have thought it was the ideal place to get the IMAX Digital conversion and continue to show their new features. IMAX is great because it pulls people out of the park for like 40 mins so is a big crowd eater. I've got no doubt that they will cut down the screen size for this new attraction which is a real waste given the suprise element of a huge screen in a seemingly tiny building was part of its great appeal.
  20. What are you basing this on Original? You're actually pretty far off in most of your comments and given the CEO himself was seen in main street ordering more decorations to be added the comments of management not being involved in creating White Christmas couldn't be further from the truth.
  21. Well you can't actually pump the radio straight through the PA at Lethal Weapon so it would have had to be the mic. Anyway regardless as of today it was the usual lethal sound all through the ride. Scooby also had great smoke and the lasers were looking really good.
  22. To be fair, guests shouldn't have to be concerned with why the service is slow (anywhere, not just a theme park), and shouldn't care what the excuse is. They should have good speedy service, if it isn't then it is the staff's fault. And I'm sorry but the phrase "sorry about the wait" just shouldn't exist in food service, that one really makes my blood boil.
  23. Sounds like a problem with the mic in lethal control room so rather than the sound fx coming back on after the mic stops it was stuck open. There is a radio in the control room so thats what you heard. Sure to be a temp problem. Red train is a seperate train, not bits of the blue train. All coasts trains need major inspections as part of their regular maintenance. This requires them to be dismantled. Great to hear about scooby smoke and lethal ops.
  24. Please try to set a better example for your 18 Month old and use correct grammar and punctuation as per the community guidelines.
  25. This is so great to be reading. Looking forward to be back on the coast and getting to one of the event nights this week!
