My guess is there are only 2 black cars working and that's why only 2 in the show.

It was only several years back when it was stopped. All in the name of lawers and oh&s. Never had an accident so that of course must mean it's about time right! It greatly reduced capacity and the ride now has some really stupid loading procedures. I wonder just how a Disney omnimover ride would be handled by these same people. It's funny that where as in Aus one by one our revolving stations were stopped, the US being sue central still operates many rides this way
-
There is no way the change to red is WPH&S, I would say it was just for a change, or someone was flogging a cheap red laser! We are pretty lucky here in Aus that 'audience scanning' is allowed with lasers (ie you can point a laser AT a crowd), in the US its strictly forbidden. The cone falls into that category, and the fast scan rate, coupled with the quick moving car means there is no risk whatsoever.

Alex I'm not sure who made up the soundtrack to be honest, certainly nothing I even remotely had any involvement in. You're not moron, I'm sure you know the difference between the two sounds, and the fact you recognise two clearly shows you must be right in regards to the sound you're talking about. As for cable drums, I don't believe there are any. You can see the bottom set of pulleys under the gondola when it's in the up position. It's simply a closed loop of cable that goes from the bottom of the gondola down around a pulley, through the long air chamber, out the top, around another pulley and connects back onto the top of the gondola. As for why the cylinders are half way up, I don't know, maybe that's where they fit, or thats the shortest run to where they must connect to the main storage tank. I don't even know what those two small cylinders do, does anyone? Actually on that, where are the compressors that 'charge' the air tanks? I figure they have got to be a decent size and make a lot of noise, yet batwing has not real plan room of sorts close by??
-
There is a boom on the soundtrack but the more kind of 'pop' boom sound you hear mid cycle is definitely the rapid release of air from the valves. If you look at the flex hozes connecting the cylinders about a third of the way up the tower you will see them 'kick' at the same time you hear the sound. That kick and the sound are from the rapid air discharge.

Probably just to do with the shutter speed of the camera and the scan rate of the laser making it look solid. I'm sure the laser head has been changed over the years though. There is no health and safety issue as you can see a small masking plate in front of the laser that would block the beam should the laser stop scanning, preventing it from hitting someone in the car.

See thats great to hear, its nice when something gets done like that which really raises no direct revenue. Whether it was as a result of comments on this forum or not doesn't really matter to me, just happy to hear positive feedback.

Please get all further posts back on track of some actual progress with this construction or I will lock and delete the thread. I am sick of silly arguments going on and on just achieving nothing but bumping a thread.

As for a new ride, pity they didn't put the half pipe in as originally planned instead of WnW. It would have fitted perfectly in that space.
-
Does anyone else not find it weird that they list the ride as being in perfect working order yet they are getting rid of it? Seems to me like if it was in perfect working order they'd be keeping it at the park...

That flag was actually replaced only a few weeks before it was stolen. It's technically custom made I guess but really it's just a big damn flag that gets ordered from the ye big damn flag shoppe at regular intervals. The flag flying now is the old faded flag, its amazing how quickly the flags get faded by the sun and ripped apart by the wind. They are also by no means cheap!

Kieron I'm sorry but I'm going to put my somewhat of an expect hat on here in regards to smoke. For starters a fog machine and a smoke machine are exactly the same thing, they are just different names people give to the same thing. There is such a thing as a Low Fog machine but it's just a smoke machine all the same with a chiller built into it. Fog/smoke does not leave NO residue, it actually leaves A LOT. Water based machines are not in fact running on water, they are running on glycol, which is a sticky messy substance that doesn't evaporate quickly. Most time you use a smoke machine it's in a venue for a week, a month or a day, and you use it for probably couple hours absolute MAX. With Scooby you're talking about 364 days a year, 8 hours a day CONSTANT use. Over time that tiny bit of residue builds up and builds up leaving a decent layer. As for 'residue in the air' that's all a smoke machine is doing. Its atomizing liquid particles and getting them air born in order to refract light and give you the effect. Eventually those particles fall on any object or structure around them, condense, and leave residue. The way you avoid this is to use fluid with long hang time, such is being used in the main room on scooby, so you put out a lot less fog to keep the room full. The system can use a lot more than it does now and be safe, but it's still a lot of fluid. And my guess is right now it's a balance between seeing the lasers and saving money. The smoke machine on the drop at the end is a $5 special. A cheap little machine that probably spits and spews crap everywhere, it also can't keep up with the demand needed there. They would be much better with a small 'water' based hazer in that room to just keep a constant mist on that cone. It would actually be the perfect place to use a fog screen kind of product and just project the cone onto it. And Alex I'm with you, you should never be able to see something obvious like a fogger, it ruins the 'magic.' It's not different to speaker enclosures on superman or blaring white exit signs. Klassen I respect you guys for going to talk to management. As I said, you will usually find management are very happy to listen to those kinds of comments and put change into action. They just have to be made aware of the problems first, which sadly most staff won't take the time to do.

I have a problem with this statement... Why should it have to come to this? Why should a petition need to be created in order to fix something that should be done as a result of you paying 70 bucks to get in the door? Secondly please stop saying that "the average guest wouldn't notice" because not only is that complete crap, but it's insulting to the guest. Guests DO notice the ride is not as good as it was before, they make comments when exiting the ride all the time, just walk behind and listen to them. I have non enthusiast friends that notice, and without any prompting from me. And Klassen of course someone that isn't an op can say what is working and what's not. I'm not a ride op but I know every single effect that should be working in the ride. And it's not about the odd bad ride, it's about consistent poor standard. You CAN have enough fog in that room all day and not affect the brakes, it was the positioning and volume of output from the old machines that was the problem. The low output is purely a cost saving measure, I know, I use 20L a week of the stuff and 1000kg of CO2, it's not cheap. The red laser being red has nothing to do with hiding the drop, it's all about not enough smoke there. You need smoke to produce the cone in mid air, too much smoke is setting off the smoke detectors and rather than solve that problem, less smoke is simply used. And finally as someone mentioned, yes most of the time exec management DON'T know about these problems. They don't have time to ride every attraction every day. They rely on reports, and checklists and the staff under them to keep them informed of what is going on. Usually you'll find those staff just sign off that the ride is working anyway, even when it's not. That's why they get so angry when someone comes on here and posts about it and their boss finds out. So all I can say is, KEEP DOING IT.

I agree that terror canyon was great in the beginning, back when it was terror canyon and river rapids. In recent times though with all the changes, it's a pretty weak ride.

Wow, another mature post from you Whitsy, such a contributor. You should perhaps take the time to read and understand posts before you shoot your virtual gob off. Its not the waterslide that is exciting, its the park actually bothering to do the work to get it running.
-
Well I was lucky enough to see them putting in the last piece today to finish the first slide. You can see from the photos how the new slides will look. I must say I have to commend the park on spending so much time, effort and money into finding a way to keep these slides open. Could have been much easier just to close them permanently and not worry about it. I'm quite happy to see a lot of little projects like this going on, it's stuff like this that improves the quality of the parks and the guest experience, but really can't be marketed or used to bring in more revenue. It takes a more long term approach to management to see the benefits of ongoing works such as these, and I really appreciate that.

I believe it was 3 shows when they opened so that would be a set of tires a day. Now that it's 2 shows they might be getting 2 days out of a set.
-
A LOT of similarities... That would be a shame if they have gone to the trouble of building the backwards car and then not even show the audience... I see that as a big problem with this show, its is marketed as a look behind the scenes at how stunts are made in hollywood. But then the show quickly jumps to as if this is all happening for real, really never teaching anyone anything about how stunts (or movies for that matter) are made. I often think it a bit sad that a park that was opened on the basis of showing how movies were made and shows and entertainment now has none of the former and only a fraction of the later. Rides are great, but maybe the park should be re-named Ride World... Six Flags on the Gold Coast??

Well after a week off the cranes are back to day as you can see driving down the M1. I'm guessing slide pieces are about to start going back in. Perhaps we will see these new slides by the Easter Holidays!

I think you'll find MOST people are pretty fair with the two parks, it just seems Dreamworld has more to be negative about than the others. If you recall everyone was very excited when Motocoaster was announced, it wasn't until riding it that it just feel short of expectations. And I don't think most people had a problem with the coaster, it was it being marketed as a thrill ride that was the issue. I agree that to come on and read all the threads it probably sounds like we all hate dreamworld. Me personally, I'm quite the opposite. Most of my anger comes from remember what the place used to be like and constantly looking at it's unrealised potential. Don't get me wrong, I see a lot of things WVTP could do to make their parks exceptional, I'm just not a fan of starting topics to preach, and tend to stick to contributing to those of others.
-
Interestingly whilst the carpark at WnW is packed of a weekend I have friends who were at the park on Sunday and reported very modest wait times. They feel they had a very enjoyable day and whilst they notice staff numbers were low the staff were doing there very best to push people through. Most of the time with shorter intervals than used in peak times. This was a family group too.
-
Mate do you even read a post before you reply? I clearly stated that I felt that way BEFORE working for them. And if you bothered to do your homework you would see I have been more than vocal when I think criticism is needed for WVTP's own properties.
-
Whitsy I don't know where you've come from or what your issue with SW is but your arguments are pretty childish. Fact is most people here like WVTP of DW for a reason! We didn't just decide to be that way, it was over the quality of the parks. Why position and views were well in place before I became employed by one of the parks! SW isn't meant to be a rides park, they are there to round off the guest experience, not be the star attraction. I've been to SW in Orlando and honestly they only have 2 decent rides, and that is a stretch calling Atlantis a decent ride. They have just added another coaster but IMO a giant flying coaster is not something we want at our seaworld. The water park as a water park is pretty poor, as a hotel pool it's pretty awesome. So I can see the logic behind the change. I am more inclined to think the token entry fee is more of a crowd control than a profit exercise. After all there is no way a guest costs them less than $5 in operating costs in using the water park. And as for upcharges, it's like what was previously said. Dreamworld continues to raise gate prices every year without actually adding anything to the park other than upcharges (with the exception of Mick Doohan). They substitute real investment with, quick money makers and that IMO cheapens the guest experience at the park.

Well anyone who has driven past Wet n Wild in the last few days would certainly notice the big ole crane down in H2O zone. They have begun removing vast sections of the slides and supports that were the two outside jet streams. Keep an eye on things in the next weeks to see what is happening to these two slides that have been closed nearly all of summer.

Corkscrew down for maintenance... during xmas holidays >:(

Mickey as of yesterday a good part of the ride was indeed orange!
