WOW I'm gonna show my ignorance here but whilst I know all about how both rides work I'm totaly in the dark on this whole magnet synchronisation system you are all speaking of... Anyone care to enlighten me??

I've always rated WL's food pretty crap however I always used to like the donuts when I was younger. The one place I always headed for my food (and this WAS some of the best theme park food) was the BBQ outside on Goldrush where you got the sausage and onions on a roll and a coke buddy. It was always fresh and well priced and YUMMY. However I'm sure like everything else good at wonderland its now gone or 'temporarily' closed.

Yeah I'd have to agree! I was at SFMM not so long ago just after SCREAM opened and it was awsome...there is nothing like the front seat on a floorless! and how about the hoopy station too :-) If I had any choice it would definately be a 4d, X is amazing but realisticaly for bang for your buck and reliability a flooreless would be awsome.

TOT does essentially use the same system for both acel and decel however obviously when slowing the car the process is reversed slightly and the charge is not as great... As Richard said, in the station and the safety track behind (geeze that thing goes a long way) there are fixed magnets in place to stop the car in an emergency such as a power failure or control system failure. Does anyone know of such an occurance happening or even seen it??

Any update on what was the final outcome/result of this fire?

Ive ridden Goliath at SFMM several times and I can tell you its one full on coaster. That first drop is intense and its the only ride ever to get me to black out on that huge spiral at the end!!

Has been quite some time since I visited the park...and not in much of a hurry to change that at the moment. However I will be driving past in a few weeks on my way to Jenolan Caves so I'll be sure to take a look. From your bit of information along with (yes its the beach's big aniversary this year!) the map my prediction without saying anything is possibly we could be expecting a wave pool to be built????

If you like the launch on TOT then Xcel is going to blow it away! Nothing like that instant 0-80mp/hr launch out of the station from the Rocket Coaster...much better than the acceleration of the LSMs. The other thing I love is just as you start the decent after you crest that hill and your just looking straight down on the road below. I think that really makes the ride is the seats themselves, would be nothing like the same experience if you had to deal with OTRs!

I'd have to disagree, although I might be a bit more passionate on the subject all of my friends (regardless of age) and even my parents, (who are by no means hard core thrill seekers) agree that wonderland has lost the plot. They wouldn't go there because they are bored with it. Even your average Joe can see that nothing has happend in years and if you didn't know better when visiting the park you'd think they had just closed a 1/3 of it. But I hey I do know better and still think that LOL

Well its no so much the fact that Wonderland 'CAN' be better its the fact that is 'HAS' been better. I wouldn't be so bitter on the park if this is all it ever had... (first time I went to WBMW when it first opened I didn't think "oh what a crap place it need this this and this") But Wonderland DID used to have all this stuff and was a much better park and now it has gone backwards. All that stuff about 75% saying it was too big is a load of crap. Not only could you jump on the chairlift to the other end of the park but one end apealed to one end of the market and the other end to a different part anyway. Your not exactly gonna be dragging your 3 year old from HBB down to ride the Bush Beast are you?? And as far as the rapids are concerned Wonderland doesn't even compare to Dreamworld because of one word...THEMING. Most of Wonderland's ride is just a concrete flume surrounded by grass with a nice scenic lookout over the plant equipment and pumps at the end. Where as Dreamworld is niceley themed throughout the ride. Anyone who wants to see a real rapids ride check out the one at DCA, that thing is amazing!

Hi Flea Once again, just be careful when expressing your opinions on parks you have never visited for yourself. I have only been to one Six Flags park and yes it had its problems but geeze it was a hell of a long way in front of Wonderland. And its (sfmm) prides itself on being a purely excitment park anyway. I think Six Flags would be a good boost...hey couldn't be any worse than the current owners IMO

I'm afraid I have to agree with most of the people saying bad things. Wonderland opened as quite a good park and since then it has just gone bad. You cant just clean up some mess and call yourself a world class park. Sure it might be a 'nice family day out' but that doesn't justify charging prices the same or even more than the Gold Coast Parks. Wonderland just doesn't (and never has) measured up as far as providing decent park that all works in. The entertainment has always let it down and been pretty cheap and nasty and the park (apart from HBB land) has always consisted of some rides placed here and there with vast expanses in between. They added a couple of CRAP second hand rides in Skyhawk and Flinstones and then removed them. When every one else was adding rides wonderland was pulling them out. Once they started taking stuff out of HBB that was it, I remember going in one day when all that was up there were a couple rides with large empty slabs around and stuff. The closing of the area due to size was BS. And in order to move the rides to other areas they took existing attractions out so you didn't gain anything. Really dissapointing and they better do something pretty good before I will bother to go back.

>>>Wonderland Constuction/Rumours<<<

Yes I do remember the WWF romour some time ago. This would certainly tie in well with the idea of a new ride that isn't a coaster... Could even be something along the lines of an Interman Splash down ride perhaps? Much like Perilous Plunge at Knotts only perhaps even bigger to make the world record??? That ride gets you DAMN wet is all I can say. -
All I remember is a 'Spider' type ride which might have been what it is called that was originaly located where the Endevour is today. The endevour used to be called 'Sea Deamon' and was located close to the entrance along the path that originaly lead to Hanna Barbera land before the whole Wildlife thing came about... The first day I got to the park and SD was gone we asked an Op and were told it had been removed. Imagine my surprise to find it in a nifty new home down in Goldrush only a few hours later :-D

Not to mention the tittles of those discussions are a hell of a lot eaier to read This one starts to get a bit trippy after you've had a big night let me tell you!

Oh yes of course Thunder Lethal Weapon (which was what I was refering to) was unique when it opened I was more generalising and talking about the SLC model as a whole. To be honest I do quite like LW and prefer it to its B&M cousin which would obviously be the Batman Beemer. Thanks for correcting me with the facts. -

Hey its cool for whatever you want to put as your avatar...just curious as to why... and now I see, basically your saying you don't like to roughness of Demon and LW. I myself didn't find LW that rough but hey thats just me. I think the thing about Demon is that its getting on in age and so starting to wear, same thing with its clone at Knotts. Just don't fall into the trap of hating Vekoma in general because of a couple examples... its like Arrow. Apart from Xcel, Corkscrew is still the smoothest coaster Ive ever ridden to this day. But the coaster at Circus in Vegas was as rough as guts!! Now as for DJV at SFMM its damn fast, damn smoothe and damn fine HEHEHE Vekoma do turn out some quality stuff, hopefully you can get on some real coaters in the US one day :-) I dont know how Im gonna go back to the aussie parks now. -

Okay here are my realistic thoughts on IF wonderland were to get a new coaster what it may be... I think it is safe to say it wouldn't be something we already have so that rules out Inverted and most likely any sit down coaster like a Hyper or Giga. Dont et me wrong SFMM's Goliath blew my mind (only coaster Ive ever started to black out on!) but the Australian punter mentality would see it as just another coaster :-( We are probably going to get something stock off the shelf rather than a brand spanker huge custom coaster...we just don't have the budget unfortunately. Stand Up or Floorless would be likely but I don't know about you guys but IMO B&M would be the king of these and they are great rides however getting Beemers introduced here could be a challenge as stated... If it was intamin I think it would be a Rocket, prolly more Xcel like than TTD cause of budget but still one kick arse ride so thats probably maybe? If it was a Beemer a Floorless like Scream could give them a power packed ride at a reduced cost that would go up in no time and would definately work which is a plus :-) However were they to build another Riddlers type ride here that would be awsome too but probably too big for Oz. Lets just hope its a floorless or a Rocket ay :-) What do you think? If Wonderland wanted to be fully out there they could go 4D but it would take a big leap of faith for a park to do that again and likewize for Arrow. -

Sorry for being a little big off topic but I just noticed... Hey Flea; Just noticed your new pic and had to ask what is it that has got you sooo against Vekoma?? I mean all we have out here are two of the most prolific clones there are out there but they still do some nice work and not all their coasters are exactly CRAP :-) And Richard...THANKS HEAPS, Keep up the great work, the forum is GREAT! -
Sorry yeah it was getting a bit off topic...just thought I had to slip it in once we degenerated (no offence) into which coaster is cool :-) Just couldnt help it, how wicked a coaster is RR. However there would be a zero chance I would think of something that size here due to out pop.

This is Riddlers Revenge...NOW THATS WHAT I CALL A STAND UP COASTER :-)
-
To be totally honest I'd be more than happy with either. However I dont like to base my arguments on what other people say and for this reason I don't think either of us can really comment on the reliability of a ride when we don't really have any true facts. One thing I know is I've ridden DJV and its one kick arse ride. Same as a 4D, I had the wait the longest out of any ride in the US for X and its not the most reliable ride but I'd still kill to have one here in oz :-) As for the impulse, I'd dare say you would not get 100% reliability there either and the GIB certainly isnt anything like down 90% of the time. Even the rockets have their down time, same as any piece of mechanical equipment. Dont start me on reliability of moving lights HEHEHE
-
Well I havn't ridden WT and god knows I'd sure like to but let me assure you if it was to be a Giant Inverted Boomer you definately would not be dissapointed. They are one Damn Fine amazing ride! Of course I'd much sooner see them get a Rocket like Xcelerator but as Im sure most will agree space and budget prohibit this :-(

Last time I was there (a little over a year ago) they had replaced the show with your typical human actor theme park stage show. Just basically a really lame story, cheesy songs and not that entertaining at all to be honest. Not surprised that this show isn't running any more. Although the old Puppet show wasn't exactly a technological marvel it was still something different and to its target audience a quite entertaining little show. Also by using animatronics it only required one person to run and thus could be run many times a day with little cost. Much better idea than what they replaced it with. Who knows though, maybe we will see another good show come to this theatre soon. Usualy its the areas that havn't seen action in a while that are the first to receive the new attractions.
