  1. Haha ten bucks an hour. Good one.
  2. So i've got passes to all the parks, despite this, I was curious to see what general 1-day admission goes for these days, and I gotta say, "$89.99" for say Movie World is pretty ridiculous when you consider Disneyland California (the staple for premium theme parks) is $103.45, Hong Kong Disneyland (the nearest premium neighbour) is $65.60, hell, even in an economy similar to ours, Universal Studios Japan (a park which is nearly three times Movie World's size) is $70.50. (All prices being Aussie Dollar converted.) Over at Dreamworld, it isn't as bad pricing wise, but we're really talking a few dollars between the two. Despite the obvious want by parks to drive "world/vip passes", the Aussie Dollar being what is, Abbott, a remote, local market etc. etc. (take your pick at intelligent reasons why this is the way it is) it still makes me feel a little dirty knowing that the reality is if you want to do what everyone else around the world does, and that is to come in just for a day, or even if you want your out of town rellies/mates to come spend a day with you in your natural habitat (it's why you're a Parkz Member, right?) it's a damn ripoff by comparison to the rest of the world. But maybe i'm just being incredulous. What does everyone else think?
  3. To the park's credit, they've done a great job handling our sensationalist, over the top media, soccer mums and CUBS (cashed up bogans) alike. How many months has the park been opened for now? Cut the team there some slack. To be hit with capacity numbers in the first weeks of operation doesn't exactly give you time to hone down on the nuts and bolts of the operation. The NYE thing sucks, and it'll unfortunately tarnish the launch of the park. Does it mean they should close the park? Shit no. Does them being at capacity mean they'll turn into Wonderland? Of course not. This will all become a distant memory when school holidays are over. I think the bitterness will be well deserved come next summer and this crap still happens, but knowing VRTP,
  4. At best a quad-copter without a stabilising gimble. The fake screams were a bit cringe-worthy.
  5. Sea World trolled the enthusiasts. Well played.
  6. Uuuhhh... Parkz doesn't directly or officially represent any of the parks, so it's pointless to be posting your complaint here if you're trying to reach Wet 'n' Wild via some alternative method to be heard. If you're here for sympathy votes, attention or something else I can't think of, then you're doing it wrong.
  7. This thread is shit. I'd say movie world, although anywhere that has a dyson hand dryer wins out.
  8. She's technically right too. When all the wood rots there'll be not much left.
  9. Bring it on I say. It would officially put Dreamworld on notice as the thrill capital of the country. It'd be a massive "up yours" to the last title (tallest ride) that Dreamworld had on movie world. Also, I don't understand the logic "but what about batwing?" Are we forgetting Dreamworld built shockwave right next to the claw? If you want to compare "experiences", they're 100000x more similar than what this ride and batwing would be.
  10. First GoPro POV footage. Skip to 3:07 if you just want POV. http://www.novafm.com.au/station/nova937/show/nathan-nat-shaun/video/shaun-faces-his-fear-abyss-roller-coaster They've done a fantastic job. They should be so proud.
  11. What a load of bullshit. If this doesn't make you angry you're not a park enthusiast in my book. This is the day dreamworld jumped the shark well and truly. The fact that staff are being laid off now (as was the whole point all along) along with the factual inaccuracy that the train was made in Australia (it's not, it's made by a completely different company in Italy) makes me red with rage. It's just pr spin. What a way to turn greedy management, lay offs and a complete show of contempt for their customers as a "green initiative."
  12. I will say as an update to this rolling story, Dreamworld PR did get back to me directly and at great length shared some general thoughts about my opinion, which I can respect. Now I just feel kinda sorry for PR. Imagine being the team who have to cop negativity of other's actions literally 24/7. Awesome.
  13. As politely as I could, I added this to the Dreamworld Facebook page, and along with several other posts from others I don't know who basically called Dreamworld for removing a huge part of the park's heritage, they've all since been deleted, along with a nice message from the PR team - and What an asshat thing to do. Nothing says "fuck you" like completely disregarding someone's opinion and whitewashing it with PR spin.
  14. It's a sad time for us all, the last chapter of the park's originally rich history is now at a close. I hopped on the last ride ever yesterday and made up a video clip sharing my thoughts and ended up having a chat to Teddy and Paul, two of the park's steam train engineers.
  15. Thanks for the trip report. Much appreciated and great to get some info updated as always. It looks like to me, particularly in that last photo, that for that footer to go in, they've had to cut some track out, but then they've joined the two seperated pieces back together again with some really basic pipe and weld? WTF?
  16. Pretty sure superman escape was fabbed in nerang. Just saying.
  17. When it was avpx, one team was "infected", one team wasn't. Using my grandeur imagination, I'd say this time with the zombies theme, it'll be totally different, the big difference being that one team will be the "infected" and the others won't. Wait, what.
  18. This is the Australian equivalent of asking what's better, six flags or universal studios. Quantity vs quality.
  19. As does Tiger Island. What i'm saying is, why on earth couldn't a train club come in, keep them maintained, hold meetings and exhibitions inside the main shed (and produce a new, very sorely needed loyal fanbase for Dreamworld) and have the current team of four engineers check and mark off their work and continue to operate the trains during the day as is?
  20. You don't think Dreamworld couldn't have spent all of no money allowing a historical society into their maintenance shed (which have already stated they'd maintain the trains for free) for some epic PR and show of goodwill?
  21. If Richard doesn't let you use Parkz, i'll let you use "waterdreamnova" - it's got a nice ring to it.
  22. Sea World's putting in a huge Mack Water Coaster, Movie World has one of the world's best coasters and Dreamworld has been behind for so long they don't even deserve a mention anymore. In fact, in Movie World's case, when they built Green Lantern they really did pick the best possible ride they could have for the parked. A eurofighter would've just been compared to Superman and would be seen as the "not as good" ride. Instead, they've gone for something so different they work harmoniously as a complete set of well rounded attractions inside a decent park.
  23. It really was bad by western standards. The cheetah was pacing one side of the cage, the eagles they had were missing eyes and feathers, the enclosures were small and bare and like the cheetah some animals were just plain stressed.
