New Helicopter Centre Coming to Sea World
Slick replied to themagician's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Soooooo are they knocking this over when they build a hotel there as per the master plan? -
1000000% not closed for filming. Most parks I’ve ever worked with take impacting guest experience at the expense of filming very seriously, and Dreamworld is high on that list. This. It’s unfortunate but Dreamworld are simply taking zero chances risking guest safety and I think most folks are very understanding of this.

So basically it's a line-up of "rides that SA doesn't like." Say what you will about the whole harness debacle but I was surprised how ridiculously easy it would be to jump into The Beat's ride envelope.

Is it just me or is it that because these single-rail coasters lack a track design with cross-hatching/ties underneath that it's all but impossible to figure out relative speed and almost looks un-natural?

Fully6 - WhiteWater World's new slide tower
Slick replied to Tim Dasco's topic in Theme Park Discussion
This is such a win for WhiteWater World - they've had great quality slides but not enough quantity which is where Wet 'n' Wild has had them beat. With this new slide tower, they're effectively padding out more of the day with things to do, all the while soaking up those summer crowds. The roll-on effect here is that with more crowd-soakers there'll be more justification for punters to hire up-sells like cabanas and ultimately spend the whole day there. Ideally WhiteWater World's next investment could be a simple lazy river with a newer Flowrider Barrel integration - it's another up-sell opportunity (and a great justification to demolish the existing one that's in Ocean Parade and better integrate the gate between parks) and with enough pleasant, grassy, shaded space, they'd have yet another crowd soaker that really would really muddy the water as to who has the better waterpark. -

Ardent to shrink Dreamworld footprint
Slick replied to Jamberoo Fan's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Old mate John Longhurst was going to use the northern land beyond the creek for a shopping centre, I can't see why Ardent working with QIC to develop the completely bonkers amount of excess land will be any different. My personal issue will be if they try to build town-houses or do something that infringes on existing land that's actually used by Dreamworld past or present. I've thrown a line on the satellite map but even without the obvious white marker, when you look online the line is practically already there: If we're talking long term (next two decades) Corroboree will probably expand onto the island, White Water World will fill out the Thunderbolt site, Ocean Parade will be expanded - from there, the only land that's left is the Ampitheatre / Blue Lagoon site for major development into something entirely new. That's it. If you're a regional US/Japanese park, that's incredibly limiting if you want to have a comparable attraction line-up with two or more staple coasters and large family attractions. However, if you migrated all the wildlife into a third gate a little north, then you've got a huge amount of land to play with again. TLDR: North of the white line? Go nuts, but anything south of the white line wouldn't be ideal for long term growth without major restructuring. -
Are you planning on building a new Big Brother house?

I reckon that's awfully condescending to the intelligence to the paying punters. It's like saying guests at Disneyland can just be given whatever theming because they won't appreciate how much hard effort goes into subtle details like say the forced perspective in their facades and architecture. Same goes for any kind of art - my girlfriend doesn't know how to light a movie or move a camera through a scene but she can appreciate a beautiful film when she sees it. Same goes for something like Sky Voyager or indeed any theme park experience which relies on finessed processes to succeed, when the focus on controlling the guest experience isn't there it's noticeable, for example: 1) Sometimes you go into a dim room with a TV off only to be ushered into another room with a bigger screen. 2) Most folks either sit down or get their phones out during the main pre-ride movie. 3) The safety video doesn't tell you what the numbers on the floor mean, where the loose article bins are or how to do up harnesses. 4) Sometimes the seats move and jolt about for no reason There's four things that are unusual enough that 95% would notice. With #2 - like any film, sometimes they resonate, sometimes they don't, and that's fine, art's subjective, but maybe it fits outside on a screen to folks waiting in the switchbacks rather than a film that's shown to an audience eager to ride? With #3 - it becomes noticeable in the way that you might be sitting in your seat ready to ride for an unusually long amount of time because the operations team have to re-do harnesses because it wasn't covered in the pre-ride safety clip. Thing is, they're all things that can be easily remedied that would improve the experience greatly. TLDR people are smart - just because they don't get forced perspective doesn't mean they can't appreciate how lovely Disneyland's facades look. PS: i've never ridden Soarin'.

Gotta love old mate’s helmet being several sizes too small in the end of the safety briefing.

The very definition of a roller-coaster is that at some point it relies on gravity as an acting force, so coasters that are powered for the entire journey aren't counted by most enthusiasts.

It looks like a lot of hustle for Ardent's AGM this Friday. Perhaps finally we'll see it open soon.

1) No low-hanging over-heads. 2) The rear head-rest is used by most manufacturers now to essentially catch riders should they not be following the guidelines and choose to stand. I get your point though, something something Dreamworld.

Dreamworld Update - 3rd of August

Got a screen cap? -
I'd be totally alright if it was gone or moved, it cut off a pathway for literally no reason.

Tower of Terror 2 closing
Slick replied to Gold Coast Amusement Force's topic in Theme Park Discussion
My hope is that they learnt this with Wipeout and this is the plan moving forward for Tower of Terror and any other rides that are closing in the near future. -

Dreamworld Update - 3rd of August

You know me too well. A Lazy River is a must for WhiteWater World's future, but not the over the top one with animals and other junk that Dreamworld were planning. Rather, the best thing for a lazy river is to keep it simple with well landscaped shaded spaces and BBQ's. Because if the aim of the game is to get season pass holders to make repeat visits (which it is) then combining really pleasant capacity sucking attractions with facilities that keep people in park for longer in an environment that guests desire visiting, then you've got a real basic recipe for success. Dreamworld seems to really be on the up and up. I'm not sad about the amphitheatre being crushed, John Longhurst remarked that it was his biggest mistake about the park and it's better gone at this point than left to rot. What I do hope is that when we start to hear announcements about new attractions and masterplans etc. etc. in the coming months/years is that everything's done with a sense of holistic consideration to the greater picture and not just out of necessity to deliver something as soon as possible because Village is doing XYZ in the same time period. Dreamworld doesn't need Trolls, Cars, Zombies and a Convention Centre inside a beach themed area, nor does it need more modern facades like Sky Voyager's succeeding what were beautiful Disney facsimile facades in a turn of the century themed area. Same goes for MotoCoaster in Rivertown, same went for an oil rig (Giant Drop) in Rocky Hollow, etc. etc. etc. etc. Everyone wants Longhurst's Dreamworld. The steam trains, the exciting attractions, the attention to detail, all done with an Australian spirit and passion.- 98 replies

You'll definitely be able to see it from the car park. If you see anything, be sure to snap a pic - would be a shame to see it go but it does open up a huge corridor for Dreamworld to use.

Sorry, queue lines and projection mapping doesn't make a good park, and adding a Trumpian three-worder at the end still isn't enough to warrant a dismissal of the merit behind my post. Anyway, glad we're all agreed Tokyo DisneySea is the bees knees.

I make more money in advertising creating copy. 😜 Now you can queue less and play more, ammirite?

As I mentioned in the video I did a while back, whatever they build will be instantly stacked up against Rivals, and if it doesn't have a marketable edge then it's throwing money at the wall for no good reason. I'd go as far as to say that changing the game on their marketing strategy from mysterious and and secret to fully open and transparent (like Energylandia did with their Hyper) would be a great way to buy them the time they need to do this right and not whatever they can get their hands on first. Doing the latter appeases the bosses in charge in delivering a profitable short term vision, granted, but it's a poor strategy for guests in creating a once in a generation ride.
