Though, if you're doing that in particular, be sure to mortgage your house beforehand.

So you're saying people will enter DW at 10am, and then straight away go to ocean parade and enter WWW But extreme H20 has the advantage of having big, popular rides that stick out. Whoops, forgot to start a new paragraph, its edited now. Though the extreme H20 area has suffient spaces within that area alone for plenty of expansion, the hills on park land at the south west part of the park are also perfect for slides to be built down. In any case, nowhere near as bad as the situation WWW are in. After this new phase any new expansions will require renovation/demolition of something. Thats the key difference, you're saying they can expand on a (newly built) car park, but they could have put off having to do that for many years yet if they had just planned better in the first place. Oh, and no I wasn't talking about what they could build, there are plenty of things out there they could build, though the trick is differentiating themselves from the park down the road that can build the same things....in terms of slide technology now, its really only 'turbo tunnel' type slides we are yet to see, the future will depend on manufacturers being innovative. Plenty to build yet.

By crowd management, you are also talking about how evenly guests are distributed around the park, in the mornings you can guarantee the new section will be dead, Supertubes and Green Room will pick up a lot of the crowds coming in the gate because of their sheer size, location and pulling power, Pipeline plunge will pick up a few because it sticks out, Rip and BRO will pick up less (I mean when i was at WWW i hit GR and STHC first thing, and when i made my way to the rip after i was still among the first riders) Temple of huey is out of the way, so its going to be dead, so naturally the attractions beyond this in the other section of the park are also just going to be dead because its out of the way and out of view, the lazy river in particular because you wouldn't be able to see it at all. Richo is absolutley right, for what the park has and where it needs to be going its not a very good layout. there is one thing I hate at a theme park, and it's the feeling that you are just walking in one big long curve, and everything is in a line so all day you end up back tracking up and down the park, WL did this, and WWW is doing it again. AS i have said in the past, everything is far apart for no paticular reason, and there is a lot of wasted space which they cant afford to have. They are competing with a park down the road which will basically never have space problems, but here they are using no obvious logic in the way they are doing things. Dont get me wrong, the park has great rides, but 10 years from now, what can they do? (and that isn't a rhetorical question, im interested in hearing answers to that one) Already you can tell it will be difficult. Not to mention having theming. EDIT: I quickly cobbled together an "open source" map of WWW, and have put in all current buildings and rides, and the park boundary, but I deliberately left out the paths and gardens to illustrate what I'm saying, everything is too far apart and there aren't enough rides for what space they have.
-
Not to mention all the effort and time it takes to save a measly $5. The vouchers distributed should be worth next to nothing anyway, they cost nothing in the first place, and are distributed in the thousands, it goes against all market logic that people can sell them for as much as they do.
-
It varies, the movie starts at sundown, and the park closes at the end of the movie, its about 9pm from memory.
-
Yeah, to clarify, the ride is Zamperla, but the renderings shown on Screamscape are done in No Limits using the Vekoma Motorbike as the track style (since Zamperla track is unavailable)
-
^LOL, there's your problem, IE has a nasty habit of not rendering pages properly, I recommend downloading and installing Mozilla Firefox, since I switched to that browser these sorts of problems are non existent, it renders pages correctly every time, its more reliable, and has better features anyway.
-
What browser are you using?
-
^In the above post can you see 6 pictures? If you can you are seeing them all. The way the forums render means you see a row of 3 pics, then a row of one, then a row of 3 etc. If you want, go back to the MW forum index, and on the link to this thread you will see a small paper clip, click that and it will bring up all the attachments so you can view them all there.
-
In that case, from that page, agree to the terms, on the next page in the left column, click search by applicant, and then search for Macquarie, from those results pick Macquarie leisure, and that will take you to their page of current applications, 'extensions to theme park' is their most recent one.

Just an update, but check out the DA in the WWW Phase 3 Thread. If you look at the full plan of DW that is in it, you can see that the layout of the standard Vekoma motorbike model is actually drawn in the place of where they ended up building the ride we see today. It would have taken up more room though, with the launch cutting over the waters edge, with the station being where the paddle steamer dock is. I would have prefered this option...it would have had speed and airtime at least.
-
Nah, it wont be that busy, its Feburary and Superman is an efficent ride so you'll be fine, crowds really are a non problem at MW. Have fun.
-
You can view the DA online here: http://pdonline.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/maste...&key=140733 the "Part 3" pdf is the one you want to look at. From what we can see, one of the dark mammoth slides will be enclosed and have a twisting and compact run to the splash pool, the other is one that goes between open air plunges and enclosed u turns. The tornado alley is just 2 mini tornados with a tight U turn between them, and you'd ride it in a whirly wheel. The two mammoths share a raft lift, and the tornado alley has a dedicated one. The lazy river looks better than WnWs with multiple routes, such as a river cove, what appears to be rapids, fountains, a separate wave channel, a kids shallow area, and the normal lazy river. There's an elevated platform over the shallow area. We've got a 3rd kids area coming, with a tiny triangular play structure (the smallest one in White Water West's catalogue, i think its the "AP50". There are a few floating animals, and about 3 of those 'rope crossings" where there are floating oam stepping stones, and netting above to hang onto: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Water_P...of_America9.JPG .

Ta sweet, Its a side of superman we have never seen. I only just noticed how cool the faux concrete looks on the final section where the launch is, all detailed and cracked. If I can put in another request, can we get shots of stuff like the waterfall, the "metropolis square" station part (with that painted back drop), the car crash scene etc, there are a lot of people who couldn't see this stuff since no cameras can be smuggled on, plus on the ride you move at a quick pace through this so you miss the details.

Yeah, Matt's been pretty accurate in the past, the time seems right for a new MW coaster anyway, by the time it would be open SE would be at least 3 years old, and we have had a couple of quiet years, Batwing was only $5mil (thats even less than DWs average yearly capital target) and I imagine Dodgems and a couple of kiddie rides would barely even break the $2 mil mark for this year. They are coming around a bit now, I mean we already know about Hippos and Hot Wheels. A coaster is a bit more sensitive in a competitive market, though to be honest I couldn't see DW turning around and responding well anyway. They still as yet haven't responded to Superman IMO, and I don't think another new ride would change things, at least not for a couple of years..

Tower of Terror Closing Down More Frequently
Gazza replied to Dreamworld Ride Op's topic in Theme Park Discussion
Just realized, the 19th of December will mark it being over 400 days since Eureka shut down, this is the second year running a major ride has had problems heading into peak season. -
Disability policies at Australian Parks
Gazza replied to drummerstix_au's topic in Theme Park Discussion
^Sorry, I'm still a bit confused, was it This? http://www.roller-coaster.com.au/gallery.p...=31&image=4 (thunder river rapids) Or This? http://www.roller-coaster.com.au/gallery.p...d=4&image=2 Rocky Hollow Log Ride But Alex B summed it up well, Roadrunner was probably the worst of the lot to try since the trains are kiddie sized and hard to fit in to, the other coasters are a bit less restricted and adult sized, especially Superman and LW (does it matter if your legs are dangling?) The rest of the rides are well set up too. One thing though, if you are ever in the US, Disneyland would be the place to go, very well thought out disability procedures and facilites, anyone could ride anything there. And yes, Luna Park in Melbourne has gone a bit downhill from its former glory, it was a crying shame the big dipper was demolished. -
I can basically sum everything up with a list, i have higlighted what I feel to be the winner in each case. Tickets WWW-$42 WnW-$45 Flat water attractions WWW- Cave of Waves WnW- Wave Pool, Whirlpool, Calypso Beach (lazy river) 2 Person Raft Slides WWW - Temple of Huey (3 Slides) WnW - Speedcoaster, Terror Canyon 1, Terror Canyon 2, Black Hole (2 Slides), Sidewinders (2 Slides) Racers WWW - BRO (8 lanes, with the first part of each slide being a fast dark spiral) WnW- Super 8 (8 open air lanes, with an electronic timing system) Kids WWW -Pipeline Plunge (Huge play structure with 7 Slides), Wiggle Bay (kids pool with water toys and 4 small slides) WnW- Bucaneer Bay (Medium sized play structure with 4 slides, plus large pool area) Multi Person Raft Slides WWW- None WnW - Mammoth Falls (up to 6 peope ride in a big round raft down a 4.5m wide waterslide, with lots of sloshing up the walls on the turns) Bowl Slides WWW- Little Rippers (2 slides ridden in one or two man rafts) The Rip (A huge bowl ridden in a 4 man raft) Both of these slides are like giant toilet bowls, it starts off like a normal slide, but you merge into a huge bowl, and you spiral around the inside, eventually losing momentum and being washed out a hole in the bottom. WnW- None Launched Rides WWW - Supertubes Hydro Coaster (Medium paced waterslide with uphill sections, the rafts have metal sewn in the base, and electromagnets force the raft uphill on the upward section) WnW - Surfrider (Like a roller coaster, the track is a giant U, riders sit on an outward facing ring of seats, the ring is on a surfboard, and the surfboard goes up and down the U, and you get sprayed with water) Tornado Slides WWW- The green room (slightly better than the WnW version, this one has a dark tunnel at the start, and a raft lift, so no carrying is needed, that said both rides are pretty much identical, dont let this be a deciding factor) WnW - Tornado Other Attractions WWW - None WnW - Twister (high speed enclosed body slide) Mach 5 ( high speed plunge body slide) River Rapids (2 open air & 2 enclosed 'normal' slides) The only truly unique rides at WWW are Supetubes Hydrocoaster, the Rip and Little Rippers. Supertubes is very overated, its sole gimmick is the uphill sections, but the novelty wears off fairly quickly...going uphill isn't nearly as interesting as it sounds. The Rip (and the little rippers) are worthwhile attractions. Outside of that, both parks have comparable rides, but WnW covers a few more areas that WWW simply doesn't have rides for, such as mammoth falls, surfrider, mach 5, twister etc Since you said you are a first timer than wnw is probably the better option, it just has so much more to do at the present time, and since you are a first timer i imagine both parks would be novel anyway. If you had the time/spare cash, try and visit both, they are both great parks, but WnW is just a bit of a juggernaut so it wins out as the better park for me.

If there are 4 of you going then just join RACV, the amount you will save on tickets will pay for the membership and then some, its probably the easiest thing for you to do...and if one of you are 17-21 you can get RACV membership for free. RACV discounts are better than the measly ones on dockets anyway, plus at Dreamworld, buying your tickets this way gives you 1 hour of exclusive access to the park before it opens to the public.
-
^Good work, the only things I would do would be to speed up the lift and have kicker wheels in the station (the real ride has them).
-
Yeah, definitely. You said you were there for 10 days, so it 's probably inevitable you will end up drifting back to parks on some days, I remember it happening to me, I was at DW on the last day but the pull of superman was just too great so I wanted to finish my trip on that, If you are planning on revisiting then you might as well go for it...WnW you might want to revisit too, I'm not sure when dive in movies are on for the dates you are there but just going back to WnW to see films at night is another good thing to do. As Richo said, its only $35 extra, and IMO the rides at SW alone are worth that at least, If there was a park that had a corkscrew coaster, water slides, a pirate ship, a ferris wheel, 2 flumes, a chairlift, a 3D movie and some rides for the kids I'd pay $35 to go there. Fair point, but go back to that infamous woodies thread and you can see evidence of the point I'm making, you can see people have a distaste for curt/unjustified posts. You're splitting hairs on that one, you can see the gist of what Im saying. Salesman, expert, friend, whatever. "In the street", what you are saying is true, but on a forum you might as well be elaborate in the first place, saves the person asking in the first place from having to ask more questions....If they want the short answer, they can read the first line of the post, if they want to know why then they keep reading, simple. PS, when we were in the market for a new TV a salesman did warn us against LG...and the store did have them in stock. LOL i'll pay that...still I'd rather be a know it all than a know nothing
-
^I wouldn't be too worried about Pony Express having an impact on crowds...When I was at Knotts Sierra Sidewinder was only a couple of weeks old and it was the shortest wait of the day. And Silver Bullet is definitely one to try there.
-
But, can I just ask, what would happen if you were on WWF and it caught on fire, or what would happen if you were on the Rip, and the exit chute got blocked and the whole bowl got filled with water, or what would happen if you were on TOT and there was an earthquake, or what would happen on Motocoaster and a bit of track fell off when the ride was going, or what would happen if you were on White Water Mountain and you got your period?

It was self explanatory why he got burned It's not crap. He never seemed to have a problem with your opinion, it was the type of post you made, notice he made specific reference to your "Woodies Suck, they are crap" post you made a little while back. Its the same thing here. No offence but people aren't going to take you seriosly if you write in that style and present your opinions that way. Again, its not your opinions, If you dont like SW that's fine by me, its the way you just blurt them out in a curt and crude manner. Think about it this way, say you are buying a new TV: One salesman says "Don't buy that, it's S**t" Another salesman says "I wouldn't recommend that model, it has poor performance in this area, lacks these features, and this brand generally has low build quality, and anyway this other model is better value for what you are after" Who would you listen to? Who sounds smarter? For me, definitely the second one. Can you see what I'm getting at here, people won't value what you are saying as much if you don't say it well. That comment hit a bit close to home then? Thanks for pointing out that he wasn't attacking anyone That would be me. You are just sour I thought your ideas were crap / proved you wrong in cases. Harden up.

^Yeah defintley, If you are a first timer than go for it, you'll have more fun going then not going, its not much extra on the cost of a 2 park pass to change to a 3 park pass, and there really is a wide variety, as Richo said very balanced, Its got a thrill ride, its got water rides, plenty of gentle things to take the view in on (Eye, monorail, chairlift) you can spend time in the exhibits (a lot of them have cool underwater viewing areas like an aquarium), you can see a good number of shows (and a 3D film) you can slide in the water park, its nowhere near being a pure zoo. And, lets face it mate, you probably should do what your partner wants to do if she wants to see animals at SW Look, can I say that AlexB raises a fair point, when somebody is asking for advice a curt answer that doesn't say why doesn't really help at all. Sure, you might find it boring, but why is it boring, its your reasoning that would help others make their desicion...If one person posted "I loved it" and the next person posted "It was boring" then how could they make a choice from that tiny amount of information that doesn't lead to a conclusion. What factors of the park didn't you like? Were the rides not fun? Were the exhibits of a low standard? Were the shows uninteresting? Was the park in poor repair and uncomfortable? Were the lines too long? Was the food bad? When you say you didn't like it, any one of these factors, or others could be your reasoning...Other people aren't mind readers. You really need to start putting some detail into your posts, sure you can swear and carry on when people criticize, but ultimately a lot of people seem to single you out so obviously they think you need to lift your game and getting abusive wont change their views, you are saying you are educated...well if you are then it shouldn't be hard for you to start posting better.
