  1. Would have you had a role in installing any of these effects But good review, it sounds intense (And i thought Superman was, but then again you can ride that thing many more times in a row before feeling even slightly queasy) which is a good thing, theres nothing like those rides you need to take a break after, and it could work well to discourage excessive re-riding. The theming is about as I expected it, but then again it is a space shot so there isn't that much they could really do without running out of space or blocking the view for bystanders. But at least it is presentable, and will probably look quite nice when it is fully established. But one other thing, from what you could see how was the capacity aspect? Was it easy to get on and off, and will the ops be able to work comfortably and effectivley? Oh, and im guessing the rides storage is simply putting it on the ground at the bottom and no bloody lockers.
  2. I doubt it, it's still very much a signature attraction for DW and I dont think they would be inclined to let it go. MLT never really seem to close much anyway, save for the chairlift, I can see them milking this ride for what its worth. As for a replacement, well it could be basically anything as long as it fits onto the site, but lets not get too sidetracked with a "I think they should buiLd a 4th dimesoin coaster, but with a lunch like TTD, B&M should builf it IMO" type wishlist.
  3. But even then, the specific uniforms arent to the same degree as what WVTP does. For example the Nick uniforms were just a purple cotton shirt with the Nick logo on it. But at SW on Bermuda the Ops wear authentic khaki coast guard uniforms, and over at MW the WWF ops have the whole cowboy outfit going. Its not really comparable.
  4. Going by what Ian has said previously there wont be a story as such, but the theming will be good, so I'm guessing it will be up to riders to sort of construct their own ideas as to what is happening. I think it will simply be a case of riders being in the Batwing as it takes off, and the smoke that is will engulf the launch area before lift off seems to reflect this.
  5. Just another example of the differences in the way MW and DW go about things. But just on the MRT Subway uniforms, I had always thought public transport workers wore those fluro yellow/orange shirts that seem to be the norm nowdays in any sort of risky jobs. Still, what they did was pretty good. I might just add another question for those in the know, if you work at MW do you have to own a different costume for each ride you work at?
  6. I Disagree, WnW is still a minority advertiser on TV. Really, when any new buisness opens the competition is going to fight tooth and nail to keep their customers. For example when a Bunnings opened here, would you expect all the other hardware stores to go "Oh no, Bunnings is bigger and has more product lines, they are the newest too, well we're beaten"? I doubt it, instead the existing stores, renovated, advertised, had special offers etc in order to keep their market share. Why is a waterpark any different? IMO there is nothing pathetic about that. When you think about it, if the money WWW will make is a viable business option for Maquarie, then that same money represents an appreciable loss for WVTP. Also, it would cost WVTP much more to attract new customers than to keep current ones, hence the current marketing efforts.
  7. Not to mention the fact you are seeing it at 7:30AM, anywhere else you would probably get some sort of early bird offer, and even then there arent many cinemas that open then (Except for movie Marathons). But yeah, $20 is crap, i would have expected something like a special breakfast package with this offer (Eg Buffet at Ricks, then onto the movie, and then into the park) This would have been better if you could see it at the end of the day, at least you could rest for a couple of hours after a day on your feet before tackling the drive home.
  8. Nah, I cant say I do, all of those things are in Nick Central anyway...
  9. Like I said, it will probably be somewhere on the mortgage belt of Brisbane, i dont really know much about Brisbane, but expect it to be in a working class suburb some distance from the CBD (Hence why Sydneys first store was in the west and Melbournes was in the southeast). They tend to open stores in these locations first simply because the people who live in these suburbs are more likely to buy these sorts of foods. However, it would probably be less than a year until you see KKs popping up at other places such as Robina and Pacific fair. Feel free to tell me why Im wrong, but I think a likely location for Qlds first store will be the Westfield at Mt Gravatt.
  10. My Gosh that is cheap, i think a lot of members here (though you would have to be pretty crazy) could sell their house, buy this and still have change (I am reading this correctly aren't I? it's one hundred and twenty five thousand) To put it in perspective that is the price of around 3 waterslides. But somethings not right here now that you look at it, its far too cheap for a ride that cost tens of millions, im guessing its either a typo or some sort of joke submission.
  11. The downloads are just updates for bugs/problems with the original releases of these games, and no they dont cost money.
  12. Yes, in that pic the canary yellow one with black handles is used on the rocket, the saffron coloured raft with blue handles is a cloverleaf and the green one is the whirly wheel.
  13. Indeed it is, the proof is in the pudding: And for the benefit of you Queenslanders, that score is equivalent to OP2. For those of you playing at home look in the results guide in todays Herald Sun, my name is fourth one down for Economics (look under 50, its in alphabetical order), also got in there for Visual Communication and also Physics, but thats enough bragging on my part (lol I earned it, im unco at sport so i never "win" anything) But getting back to the whirly wheels, for those who have ridden them, do they go any higher and do they spin better? (since they are not an awkward clover shape)
  14. Ok, time to pull out the constant acceleration formulas to debunk this one. Using stats from the fabbri website ( see http://www.fabbrigroup.com/products/specif...a=&client=1 ) x = 35m, a=14.7m/s/s (-.5g) u=0m/s v=? using v^2=u^2+2ax so substituting in v^2 = 0^2+2(14.7)(35) v^2 = 1029 v = sqrt(1029) v = 32.08m/s converting to km/h (* by 3.6) = 115km/h note that this would be the speed it would reach if it took the whole tower, but as was said it slows 10m or so before the bottom so its top speed would be less than that.
  15. You sit side by side but in alternate directions, so in other words you sit sideways but you can look diagonally to the other person. Look at the pic i posted and the way you sit should be pretty apparent. Personally though the 4 person rafts are better IMO, better capacity, more momentum, more friends to ride with etc. But i dont see how getting it up the stairs would be difficult, 4 people sharing the load would make it bearable.
  16. They sort of look like a film reel, its circular with 4 holes, one for your bottom and one for your feet to rest in. The only pic I could find was this one, look for the bright green thing near the bottom: http://www.westcoaster.net/wcPhoto.php?upd=1&image=4925
  17. I think though the fact the MW pass is so much cheaper that the money you would save using the wider DW discounts would not equal that price difference.
  18. That and the fact launching the ride to 240km/h in half a second would be a more powerful launch than TTD
  19. Ok, remember that the freefall car is moved by cables, which are attached to the bottom and top of the car. To hold it at the top all they would do is stop pumping any air in or out of the central cylinder. Thus the cables wont be hauled up or down and the car will just sit there. (its a bit like when a lift stops at the top floor, the motors stop and the lift is just held there) Now, for falling faster than gravity the car is simply yanked down by the cables rather than just falling at its own pace. Try this: if you have blinds/curtains that use a drawstring attach a peice of tape to the drawstring, the tape represents the freefall car. now quickly pull down on the drawstring and the tape will move down, but notice that its not gravity doing this but you pulling. Its the same thing with the spaceshot, its the cables pulling down, not gravity.
  20. Here is an alternate explaination which i feel is a bit clearer than the above of how magnetic brakes work, its the nth time I have posted this, but alas... For starters, you have two paralel magnets placed a little bit apart, with the north side of one magnet facing the south side of the other. That makes a magnetic field exist between them. Now, when you move a length of conductor (Eg a wire, or in this case the copper brake fin on bottom of the car) through a magnetic field a current is created in the conductor. (Generators actually work by this principle, since coils of wire spin around in a magnetic field, since the coils are rotating, they are moving, and thats why you get current from a generator) So in this case, because the copper brake fin goes in between the pair of magnets you get a current in the fin. NOTE THAT BECAUSE THE BRAKE FIN IS MADE OF COPPER IT IS NOT ATTRACTED TO THE MAGNETS (since only very few metals can be attracted to magnets, like iron for example) Since the copper fin has a current flowing through it (yes current does flow) the copper fin acts like an electromagnet. (It is like when you wind coils of wire around a nail, and then let current flow through the coils by hooking it up to a battery, you make an electromagnet) Because of the direction of the current in the fin, the electromagnetic field created actually opposes the magnetic field from the pair of magnets mentioned at the start. Because these fields are opposing each other the train is forced to slow down. Just with the above explaination, i adapted it from something else, so it really refers to one where the copper fin is attached to the vehicle, but superman has the copper fins on the track. In reality there is little difference as one is moving relative to the other.
  21. Just on that, can you feel if there is metal in the bottom of the rafts?
  22. Geeze, if i were you I would be pushing bloody hard to get a visit to IOA, its probably my favourite theme park, and hey you cant go wrong with 3 B&M coasters in the same park..... Maybe just say something like "We could just to SW here in Australia", or maybe show her a picture of dueling dragons to help with the convincing.
  23. They are usually initially built somewhere on the "Mortgage Belt", and from there they just start popping up at shopping centers (For example a store at Melbourne Central opened today) I must say its a good stratergy though, those little donuts seem to cause mania. The first store in vic generated 2 hr lines for weeks after opening, and continues to be popular. I have to wonder though, if a WVTP park opened a store would people visit just so they could get donuts?
  24. Wait, i thought you had inside knowlege or something. Are you posting up what is known to be true, or what you think is true? As for the proximity sensors, i had thought that the green LEDs on them were just indicator lights, or do the LEDs play an active role in the system (Eg is the sensor system optical)
  25. Ohhhh, so this is why public liability insurance is so expensive .......
