No, they just re-open it when it is done. I guess the safest bet is to go straight to MW on one of the days it is open.

Yeah, 3 hours is crap for any park, even hugely busy parks like Disney. Those are the sorts of queues major rides like TTD got in their opening season, not what you would expect from a medium sized park. Yeah its peak season, but they should be able to deal with the crowds and have spare capacity for these periods. And to me, shutting thunder river in the hottest part of the year is lunacy, its a bit unfair that everyone looking to escape the heat is forced onto the Log Ride.

I didn't think this warranted a whole thread given I'm just linking to some other forum anyway, hence me posting this in the most recent 'WL update thread' But if you are interested in seeing a whole lot of brochures and PR material from WLs glory days somebody has posted a whole heap of it in this TPR thread: http://www.themeparkreview.com/forum/viewt...p=509783#509783 Copy and save the lot while you can guys

Im guessing we are still in beta (So i can see if i can crash it with all the photos from Orlando) but a couple more things I have picked up on: The park pages dont seem render properly: And another usability thing, I dunno if you could do it, but with lists of rides etc, could things with 'The' in the name be placed in the list as if 'The' wasn't there, sort of like how songs/artists are listed on an Ipod. So The Green room should be listed in G, not T for instance. This is not really a pressing issue though.

What would you do if 'you' owned or managed DW?
Gazza replied to skystar_a320's topic in Theme Park Discussion
^Its not Tomb Raider at DL, its Indiana jones. Yeah, but DW has IMAX, which is undoubtedly more boring than Shrek (I quite enjoy Shrek, but I'm digressing a bit) Thing is, you shouldn't really run a theme park IMO without at least 1 or 2 major shows because the simple fact is people do like them, the problem is that pass holders, frequent visitors etc are probably more likely to get sick of them. The problem is that MW doesn't have enough rides in general, not the balance of attractions they currently have, I mean police academy and Shrek, thats like 2 major shows, is that really too many? As for what I would do If I managed DW...well if I were managing DW therefore Stephen Gregg wouldn't be managing DW, which is automatically an improvement. Seriously, the guy just seems to have lost the plot, at least Peet is on the right track...at the end of the day people go to theme parks to ride roller coasters, no two ways about it. If these 'interactive experiences' are so great then clearly places like Adrenaline park or those leech attractions like what you see on International Drive in Orlando would be hugely popular. The point about Sega World was very pertinent...that place was a flop. To me it doesn't make sense to deviate too much from the traditional theme park formula...they can harp on about how they have to compete with new age media, but i dont think this is true at all, people will never tire of visiting a good theme park. Nor will there be a stage where people will stop finding rides fun Marketing might change, but the product shouldn't really. Something Richo has said in the past is how interesting it is there are classic coasters that entertain people as much as they did 80 years ago despite all the changes in the world, and this pretty much backs up what i am saying. No news there really, DW of course wouldn't be willing to invest that much, and WVTP typically don't build giant rides. -
Hopefully they go for something a little more permanent looking, it could be they didn't want to go all out with a full electronic system without doing a bit of trialling first. Something else I'd like too add, at Disney the central Tip Board is actually magnetic, and is staffed all day. Bingo, after a few days at WDW I found this to be the case...Fastpass has some definite flaws. I mean, it is great to give people a warm fuzzy feeling when they can stroll through past a crowded queue house, but a couple of problems I found: -Causes unecessary waits, i mean on space mountain, half the capacity goes to Fastpass. The standby queue was 40 minutes, but it would have been a bearable 20 minutes for everyone if fastpass didn't exisit. -Not there when it is needed, in the morning you can get a fastpass for any ride easily, problem is you dont really need them then, so really all they seemed good for was re-riding. But in the afternoon when wait times get huge fastpasses are often all sold out, which forces everybody into the standby queue further increasing waits. If you are park hopping this becomes a big problem since you simply aren't in the park in the morning when fastpasses are available. But back to the main topic, good work on getting those queue time boards, its something I have wanted to see for a while, they do need provisions for showing when a ride is down though. AlexBs idea is the best though, plasmas can show full colour, can scroll through different rides. In fact Parque Warner uses this type of system.

"I saw", not "I seen", grammar mate Anyway,I've been there, done that. The place is out in the sticks (The place originally was called 'Ironbark trail riding center" and along with the horsies it had camp cabins etc) and the slide is a second hand one that used to be at the local outdoor pool (I actually rode it in that location too, its called the big Bendi, har har get it?) since then the local pool has installed a slick new enclosed slide with a far more twisty layout. The sole slide there is fun....most are, but nothing different to all the other body slides around the country, or the flumes at WnW. But it really depends on if you are willing to throw down $18 for the use of one slide. Haha gotta love that 'maxi' pass, it only gets you in 10 times for unlimited use....who needs those sub $100 GC park annual passes when you can pay $140 for the use of one water slide in a country town, deal of the century there.
-
Yeah, but its annoying to just read posts saying the same thing over and over....repetitiveness is boring.
-
Really? I could have sworn they just didn't put the cars on straight. PS this is like the 3rd time you have posted up Sierra Sidewinder.

Just wondering what else you have been on to compare with in terms on intensity? Are you sure you are talking about the same ride here? I have been on my fair share of coasters, and it is definitely up there in terms of intensity. Also, the reason there is no weightlessness is because its ejector airtime rather than floater airtime. Floater is what you get on rides like TOT, or the first hill of Goliath at SFMM, personally ejector is alot cooler. Loading speeds on Superman are far faster than Xcelerator....scooby doo I think is pretty much on par with every other mouse coaster out there in terms of loading speeds (Even the one at DCA) if not a little bit faster. Capacity wise, well they are good enough for here, and parks like Alton Towers, PortAventura and Thorpe run with the exact same station setup at MW with their Accelerators and they get more attendance than us. A dual station is a simple thing to implement though if you want to improve capacity that way. You havent even ridden coasters at US parks. It is definitely better then quite a few American coasters anyway (Certainly the 'worst' ones) A good coaster is good no matter where it is built. Ninja makes a good point though, i wonder how people would rate SLCs if they actually were smooth, its a decent layout, but the roughness on them sort of wrecks it for me.

Yeah, its a bit biased, but at the end of the day anybody can write this sort of stuff. Be proactive and revert the page back to its last form, that's the best way to combat vandalisim.

Glad you had fun. Have you got any more shots of Tiapan? You should put them on Parkz since there aren't any pics of that one on there yet.

I cant quite remember, but i think it is in your own address book in the Wii. Edit: yes it is, click on the envelope icon on the wii menu, then click the create new message icon (on the bottom, 2nd from left) then click the address book icon (wil be far right) and it shows up there. Give the manual a read, gives a good run down of other hidden talents the Wii has.
-
Friend codes are what you are on about. If you want to play with specific people you both have to have each others friend codes in your address books. I have since forgotten how all the friend code stuff is done and dont have the time to be firing up the Wii at this second to check, but you need to have the Wii online to do this sort of stuff, it should all be in the Manual anyway so check that and you should be right. I looks like a Uzi or something, I'm no gun expert, but that is a type of gun. Its pretty inevitable a gun attachment will come out, the EB guy wouldn't necessarily be that in the know (and his reasoning, as you said is a bit weird) he could simply have not known about thay Nyko thing. In any case, its just a visual thing, it wont effect the functionality of the controller.

Problem is, there is no way you could fit a proper multi motion simulator course in the current building, remember, a Multi Motion Dark Ride is exactly that, a dark ride.....a simulator on train tracks i suppose. Its not like the current thing where the simulator just stays in one spot and you watch the action on a screen, with Multi Motion Dark rides its like you are on a car ride, but with extra movements, jolts and tilting to mimic the behavior of the suspension of a real vehicle. Edit: Myk, The ride system is the Indiana Jones one, not Test track (though both are cool systems) Indiana jones is like a simulator on train tracks, test track is like Model T lane on steroids...it lacks the hydraulic system so the vehicles don't tip about. The test track one is a Disney only thing (Only used on Test Track at Epcot, Journey to the center of the earth at Disneysea, and the upcoming Pixar Cars ride at DCA) The multi motion one seemed the way to go since for things like the cone slaloms, swerving down the alleyways, tight turns etc the tilting from side to side is important (and a load of fun) I attempted too, weeks ago, but logo design isn't my strong point. I was trying to make it look like the text was coloured in glossy car paint with some scratches, and the words were sort of swerving and crashing into each other, causing sparks at the point of impact, hence the smashed up look of the text. Didn't turn out too well Funny you should mention that. I did actually draw that in, just forgot to mention it in my description. On that grey lead drawing, look at the turn before the track goes into the construction site. Notice there is a car (not a cop car) that has its bonnet popped up. The idea I had was that some of the shots from the cops firing at you goes astray, hits an unfortunate parked car, and causes the engine to explode and the bonnet pop up as the ride vehicle is nearby. Some sort of windscreen shattering effect could be integrated too, eg cracks painted in UV paint, or something projected on, or even something like the fake ride op booth on revenge of the mummy where the glass shatters (Unrelated question; how does that work?) Dunno how safe this effect would be indoors, though it suppose it could be done since a lot of rides have fire integrated in some way.

I think he had worked that out.

Yeah, I think an overhaul to go with the newer films would be good, it could be the sort of thing you put in during a quiet year where no major attractions are happening, at the same time put in some other gimmicks to make it worthwhile (3D?). The ride's capacity is never fully used (even on the packed Halloween nights it was still a walk-on) so they should reduce their maintenance liabilities a bit and cut off unneeded capacity and get rid of 3 of the pods...perhaps if they successfully acquire SAG they could shift 3 of them there to go in with one of those attractions.

And some other errors that show up, in my approved rides list * Universal Studios Hollywood (CA, US) Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/parkz/public_html/profile/user.php on line 66 * Roaring Rapids (Six Flags Magic Mountain) * Supreme Scream (Knotts Berry Farm) * Log Jammer () * Goliath (Six Flags Magic Mountain) * Riddler's Revenge (Six Flags Magic Mountain) * Tidal Wave (Six Flags Magic Mountain) * Viper (Six Flags Magic Mountain) * Déjà Vu () * Revolution (Six Flags Magic Mountain) * Pacific Wheel (Pacific Park) * Santa Monica West Coaster (Pacific Park) * GhostRider (Knotts Berry Farm) * Superman The Escape (Six Flags Magic Mountain) * Jet Stream (Six Flags Magic Mountain) * Ninja (Six Flags Magic Mountain) * Batman The Ride (Six Flags Magic Mountain) * Scream! (Six Flags Magic Mountain) * Warning: mysql_fetch_array(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/parkz/public_html/functions.php on line 331 () * X2 (Six Flags Magic Mountain) * Sierra Sidewinder (Knotts Berry Farm) * Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage (Disneyland) * Tatsu (Six Flags Magic Mountain) Another little thing i noticed, those coney island cyclone shots (good work) wound up in the DW cyclone gallery. One other thing I think should get fixed is when you are typing in the opening date for a ride you should make the format it needs to be in clearer. I did a few database entries as DD/MM/YYYY, it wasn't till i had done several entries i realized it need to be in the ISO format YYYY-MM-DD infrequent contributors will probably make the same mistake i did. Oh, and i never realized you can get a ride by typing its name, though when i do it its only works for the first letter, typing Dreamworld would jump to R when i get to the second letter.

Anybody can vote, you don't have to be a member, or put in any self identifying info, just go to myfun and follow the links.

That did actually pass through my mind. They might be a bit big, but hey all you are doing is basically putting them on wheels so it could possibly be done. Who knows, maybe Intamin offers a trade in on your old simulator

Its that time again. For those of you not MyFun members (and hence didn't get an email) there is a survey on the main page of www.myfun.com.au where hopefully your opinion can make some difference. Its probably one of the more effective ways you can get your view across so I'd encourage members here to do it. Of course, the fun part about this is you can see what is on the table for new attractions, and what they want to do with the websites: -One idea they are suggesting is an online photo/video gallery where you can post up your own pics of your visit (Parkz rip off clearly ) though the Busch Sea World parks in the U.S have a similar thing on their main page: http://www.seaworld.com/ -They also suggest having photo/video updates of ride construction, celebrity visits, behind the scenes for ads, etc. Vote yes on this one! -They ask you to rank in order what you would like to see; At SW they ask about; Hippos Beluga Whales Killer Whales Thrill Ride Crocodiles Panda Bears Giant Stingrays At MW they ask about; New stunt show Thrill Ride Movie Making Experience Kids Ride Water Ride Australian Animal Enclosure And at WnW they ask about; New Slides New Rides New Kids Slides New Kids Ride So there you go, a hint at what could happen. Oh, and putting in your email is optional.

I thought the name "Stunt Driver" sums it up well, its simple and effective. I don't like the idea of a Batman theme, we don't need another Batman themed ride (Its Movie World, not Batman World) and pretty much goes against the story line I had in mind: That riders are auditioning and filming an action movie. That would also force the cost of the ride up, licensing fees would need to be paid (this wouldn't really have any since it is themed to movie making in a generic sense), the whole ride would have to be fully themed (no barebones sections like the training course at the start of the ride) plus that would be an intrinsically more expensive theme to deal with (Eg Animatronics would probably feature in a ride like this) plus the ride vehicles would be a custom job rather than the standard design I would just utilise. Anway, to me Batman would just be a different theme, not necessarily a better theme, would it actually make the ride more fun? Though, by all means, If you have an idea on how a batman themed would be done, draw it up. I'm pleased with what I have done myself though.
-
Well, more to the point both rides sort of share a common theme in a way. Remember, the ride is a dark ride, so you wouldn't be able to see the city scenes from outside anyway.
-
As Richo said before, the problem is all comes down to the ride system, more specifically the vehicles. The track itself wouldn't be too much IMO, its just a simple guide rail and conductor bars, I doubt it would cost more than say the track of a dragon wagon (per meter). The course is 580m long (going by my measurements) Its those vehicles which are the huge cost in all this as they cost millions each. However I did some calculations using the speed and acceleration capabilities of the vehicles and each would take about 3 minutes to do the whole course, including loading and unloading, so to get 960 pph the ride could technically get away with using just 4 vehicles. In terms of cost versus capacity I think that is a nice balance...if the ride proved popular enough and helped bring in extra money then adding extra vehicles would be quite possible considering the length of the course. Theming could be done on a shoestring if the effort was made. Obviously that whole first section has no real expensive stuff (except for the 3 screens) The city street scene would be the most expensive probably since it has proper building facades, and that moving truck. The alley way would be a bit cheaper, since it is just full of junk you could just go to a tip that has a recovery section and get stuff there. The second street scene with the cops shooting might be a bit more expensive. The construction site section again could be done fairly cheaply. The walls are just plywood hoardings so getting them would be easy, as would be doing the piles of rubble. For the other stuff lying around, just try and get cheap non working stuff from wherever since they are just there for looks. PS, this is how the cops shooting section, and the construction site looks in it current bare sketch form: The freeway tunnel scene (last bit i have to draw up) would be simple to theme too. If you look at the way tunnels are done in Sydney: You can see how simplistic that looks, to emulate it all you would do would be to just get a couple of NJ barriers and have them either side, and then get fibro panels for the walls and paint in a glossy white, and along the roof run some basic fluro lighting. The only other details would be the odd fake ventilation fan (like in a real tunnel) and every now and then have lights that look like this: mounted on the roof (showing X) to emphasise the fact you are going the wrong way. The other main thing seen around the ride would be other cars. The second hand car market is big enough, so you would just get common cars with high Km's or unroadworthys, after all they are just there for looks and dont need to do anything, as long as the headlights work they would be fine. The reason for the whole chase part of the ride taking place at 'night' is simple...it means no need for a roof with clouds on it, it keeps the ride exciting since it is harder to see what is coming, and you would save money on lighting since you only need to light it just enough so people know what is going on. One problem is the opportunity cost of building this. $20 mil (+) could buy a lot of other stuff, a large coaster for example so it comes down to wether they want to pour that much money into a dark ride...If it were me, then yes because its so unique and a great ride, but management mightn't want to risk it. Easiest thing to do would be to just steal a chunk of the car park. Another spot could be south of LW, and it wouldn't look out of place there, what with all the other sound stages around it. Tomato Tomata, they still do the same thing, the only difference is that one integrates 3D movie screens where the vehicle 'parks' and does stuff like a traditional simulator...its not really the best choice though, firstly because it doesn't look like a car/4x4 which is essential to the theme of the ride, and secondly that vehicle design has walls on the side of the vehicle (so passengers focus on the 3D screens) but on mine obviously riders need to be able to look to the side to see some of the effects etc. My original choice is clearly the better one for what is being done.
