I went to Raging Waters last weekend to try Whirlwind. Being from Sydney I really want this park to do well. There does appear to be some new decorations, more shade and it looks less rundown than last year. Overall the energy felt very positive.
Whirlwind was not a great ride experience but it was long and colourful and I can see families liking it. Was a very quiet day. Whirlwind had a 20 minute line and everything else was a walk on. Can see it being a very long line in Summer.
However the biggest change I encountered was the T5/Bombora/Tantrum complex ONLY allows 4 people now. So you cannot go in groups of 3 or 2 like previous years (strangely, the other cloverleaf complex Riptide/Double Bowlseye/Curler still allows 2 or 3 riders and nobody could answer why). I was in a pair so it was pretty easy for us to just go with another pair but I saw some groups of 3 struggling to find a 4th person. I actually made a complaint to customer relations because it was one of the most disorganised things I’ve ever seen at the entrance to those slides - people confused, yelling at workers, and what I learnt from a supervisor - WORKERS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HELP PUT GROUPS TOGETHER. So you had groups of 3 standing around confused and a young lady doing nothing to help and was fighting with people and turning them away. No customer service, no lines of “groups of 3” “groups of 2” “single riders”, just no common sense at all in how that area is designed. Sad seeing so many frustrated customers being turned away without help.
As I said I want the new Raging Waters to do well but this new change potentially could alienate a lot of customers considering these are the park’s most popular slides.
